Elizabeth Brisby, commonly known as Mrs. Brisby, is a mortal widow of heroic man Jonathan Brisby, mother of four children; Teresa, Martin, Timothy and Cynthia. Prior to the marriage, Elizabeth was a normal girl working in the Fitzgibbons’ farm, greatly afraid of men as they usually approach her with indecent intentions, until she came across injured man named Jonathan Brisby. She brought him to her home and tended his wound. When he recovers to see her for the first time, he fell in love and a year later, they got married. He taught her how to read and write when she confessed she was illiterate. Through years, they had four children. However, when Cynthia was just a toddler, Jonathan Brisby fell to his death in midst of battle with his enemy, found dead in arms of Virgin Mary’s statue. 

It was revealed her and their children’s existence was kept secret from his allies; “the humans of NIMH”, except their leader Nicodemus. She was also left with the will by her husband; all his wealth, inheritance and possessions passed down to Elizabeth and their children, which allowed them to stay in a house Jonathan prepared before his death. Despite immense inheritance, Elizabeth kept it intact for the future of her children as she insist to work as a seamstress. At one point, Elizabeth visited her husband’s friend Mr. Ages as her son Timothy fell severely ill. Initially diagnosed with pneumonia, both noticed Timothy’s erratic breathing, avoiding the sunlight and become sensitive without his mother’s presence. Mr. Ages concluded this as the first stage of congenital stage of “IM-mutation” and suggested she need to move her house along with her husband’s allies to the new “bund of NIMH” where it was located in Thorn Valley. 

Not knowing of “IM-humans”, Elizabeth decided to ask for solution to Nicodemus as she journeys to where his people resides. Much to her surprise, the house her late husband has left was able to move with the hidden wheels and technology manifested with magic. At the old bund surrounded by rose bushes, she encountered one of the “IM-humans”, Justin, the guards’ captain. She recognized familiar faces from her husband’s funeral, especially Jenner, who is against with the “Thorn Valley Bund plan”. Meeting up with Nicodemus, she discovers the “IM-humans” were artificially created vampires through experiments of NIMH who were able to conquer sunlight, and Jonathan was one of them; hence why her children will inherit their father’s longevity in life and slow aging process, along with Timothy becoming just like him. However, the condition is that until Timothy’s symptoms are gone, he must avoid the sunlight for a while. She was surprised to learn that Drago Welker, the community guard and alleged murderer of Jonathan, was not responsible for his death and was warned to beware of the ones who approach her with dark motives. Lastly Nicodemus has given her the ruby necklace, the stone Jonathan left for her. While staying with the IM-humans of NIMH, Elizabeth develops a close bond with Justin who becomes a father figure to her four children.

However, in order for the “Thorn Valley Bund” plan to work, someone must drug Drago Welker to have their moving undetected. Elizabeth volunteers, much to dismay of Justin. But, she insists as she was told with directions by him and Dr. Ages; she must lure the community guard to drink the drugged beverage. As Mr. Ages and Justin as the two men would be assisting Nicodemus in moving the bund. Elizabeth recalled the “honey trap” female Im-Humans used to trick, so she decided to lure Drago with its method and successfully does so before she overheard Fitzgibbons discussed about calling NIMH (National Institute of Mystic Health) to hunt down “harmful vampires”. Alarmed, Elizabeth rushed back to witness her house immobilized and was abducted by Jenner. She learns that Jenner was the one responsible for it and killed Nicodemus, horrified of his intentions to take over Jonathan’s inheritance, possessions, and his widow to himself. In a brief moment of solitude, she told guilt-stricken Sullivan about NIMH as he successfully send the message to Justin. Learning of this betrayal, Jenner injured Sullivan and was about to rape Elizabeth, but stopped by Justin who came in time to save her. Elizabeth was seen watching in horror when Sullivan successfully gave a final blow at Jenner who fell to his death in a fountain below the statue of Virgin Mary, the same location her husband died. When the immobilized house of Brisby was about to fall, Elizabeth did not hesitate to shield her children from falling debris, but the light from the Stone formed a protective field sparing their lives.

Waking up, she found Timothy missing and frantically looked for him until she found him outside, completely healed and conquered the sunlight. In tears of joy, Elizabeth and her children hugged Timothy as the boy was spared from further pain of illness. Days later, as all her children wish to travel with their father’s wheeled manor that has later rebuilt, Elizabeth gave Justin the Stone as a promise to meet again. Witnessing the wrinkles and white streaks of hair rejuvenated, Justin smiled as there were implications she won’t grow old as normal human and they would meet again.

NIMH AU: Just Say Yes!

For my "Mrs. Brisby and the Bund of NIMH" AU, I used The Secret of NIMH's BLUTHLESS Sequel villain song "Just Say Yes" and made a lot of changes to connect with Jenner's character. I was listening to the song, and then "In the Dark of the Night" from the animated film Anastasia. Some bits based on Hellfire from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame", and "Be Prepared" from "The Lion King".

Think of this song taking place Jenner seduces Elizabeth Brisby to be his. Imagine PAUL SHENAR'S rich and sonorous voice sing this XD

Drago Welker, commonly known as Drago or Mr. Welker, is a hunter and the gatekeeper of the town Elizabeth’s family and Farmer Fitzgibbons lived. Not much is known of his childhood, but he is known for disliking supernatural beings as he occasionally mistreats them. Although he has a job to keep the town safe, he has a reputation of being aggressive with refugees and townsfolk. It was revealed that when IM-Humans settled their Bund deep in Rosebush Forest, Drago occasionally terrorized some of them as Jonathan defended them, resulting in physical fight as Drago’s left side of face was severely scarred, causing the gatekeeper to harbor grudge against him. He was also one of the unmarried men who often preyed on Elizabeth to have her, but her marriage with Jonathan fueled his anger.

When Jonathan Brisby died, his harassment went worse from verbal insults to violent responses whenever he sees Brisby siblings, as they are part of Jonathan Brisby, and he would continue to attempt on courting Elizabeth, even though she was still mourning her husband. This caused Auntie Shrew to develop immense hatred towards him. However, when encountering Jeremy Crows who assist Elizabeth in visiting the Great Pope and using magic to move the entire house away from the town, Drago was upset of it. In fact, majority of IM-Humans suspected that Drago Welker may be the one who killed Jonathan Brisby as before the man’s death, he confronted Drago for harassing his wife Elizabeth. This suspicion was no exception to Elizabeth, but she couldn’t accuse him for it right away.

Realizing the moving plan would require a distraction on Drago in order to let them depart without conflict, Elizabeth remembered Drago often neglect his duty for alcohols or women. She offered to volunteer in honey-trapping him, much to disagreements of Justin and others but relented due to her insistence. Later, Drago was seen flustered and delighted when Elizabeth visited him. She offered him a drink and he accepted it, not knowing it was drugged from the beginning as she watched until he would fell asleep. Though, she discovered that Drago wasn’t the one who killed Jonathan as she overheard the NIMH would approach to the town to investigate any “unusual” people residing in. 

According to Jeremy and Auntie Shrew after Jenner’s death and during the reconstruction of Brisby’s Moving Manor, Drago was mentioned to be arrested by the authority for his habitual aggressive behaviors tax evasion, and withdrawing from military service volunteer years prior.

Arthur Ages, normally known as Mr. Ages, is an Im-Human who work as physician, pharmacist, inventor and a researcher. Formerly a war prisoner, he was sent to NIMH to be experimented along with his son and daughter. However, they were killed during the sunlight endurance test as scientists labeled them “failures”, leaving him traumatized. However, with given immense intelligence and wise knowledge, he participate in an escape plan with other victims. While establishing the Bund, Mr. Ages continues to research of Im-Human’s health, social behaviors, strengths, weaknesses, and other details. At one point, he noticed the change from Jonathan Brisby’s behavior and became one of a few who learns of his marriage with Elizabeth. When Timothy was born prematurely, Jonathan felt fear of losing Elizabeth, via death, and grown determined to find ways to make her one of the Im-Humans without painful experiments as Nicodemus and Mr. Ages reluctantly assisted him. By the time Jonathan’s ruby amulet was complete, Mr. Ages warned of what potential the stone could have as he and Jonathan witnessed Jenner’s descent into darkness. When Jonathan’s youngest turned three, he has heard of Jonathan’s death and attended his funeral. Despite his bitter tendencies, he felt sympathy for the Brisby Widow and her children.

When Timothy has grown severely ill, hearing symptoms from Elizabeth caused Mr. Ages to grow curious as normally, the ones with DNA of Im-Humans are immune from diseases as he initially diagnosed it as pneumonia. However, he actually informed Nicodemus about the symptoms. Along with him and Justin, he witnessed with concern as battle plane released bomb carelessly nearby Brisby house and decided the Thorn Valley Bund plan must proceed now. Much later, he met Elizabeth and her children in their moving manor, figuring out that late Jonathan must have left magic and its trinkets in the house to help his family house moving for their safety. Taking Elizabeth to the Bund, he announced of Elizabeth’s family moving on the same schedule the Bund would move to the Thorn Valley. Throughout the days, he remained suspicious of Jenner’s behaviors and would be seen noticing the chemistry between Elizabeth and Justin.

It was found out that Mr. Ages attempted to drug the gatekeeper Drago to move their Bund undetected. But, the plan went awry when the drunk Drago injured him, causing the old Im-Human physician to broke his leg. When Elizabeth decided to volunteer to distract Drago, Mr. Ages openly disagreed as he was aware of the gatekeeper’s lecherous feelings for her. However, he relented and agreed to gave her the sleeping powder to drug Drago. Throughout the moving, he was constantly worried of her welfare until Jenner secretly immobilized Brisby manor, causing the “accident” that killed Nicodemus. With Jenner and his supporters taking upper hand, he helplessly watched the council nearly swayed by his tactics. When Elizabeth returned unharmed, he sorrowfully announced Nicodemus’ death but was alarmed when she told him and the Im-Humans that NIMH would be approaching. When Jenner abducted Elizabeth, Mr. Ages tried to stop him but was shoved away. Along with Sullivan, he informed Justin about Elizabeth in danger and assisted the young captain to save her. Mr. Ages was quick to get Elizabeth away as soon as Justin stopped Jenner from his attempt on raping her. When Sullivan died as he made final blow on Jenner who was about to kill Justin, he mourned the redeemed man but noticed Elizabeth was gone. He rushed back with others, only to find Brisby manor completely destroyed but relieved to see her and her children unharmed.

Mr. Ages expressed shock to see Sullivan and Nicodemus alive, finding it possible by the power of ruby gemstone made by late Jonathan. Furthermore, he expressed immense relief to see Timothy conquering the sunlight as he became a full Im-Human. Through several days of Brisby’s wheeling manor to be rebuilt, Mr. Ages witnessed Justin becoming crestfallen and conflicted, figuring out the reason why. In the meantime, he was nagged by Auntie Shrew who tended his leg injury. When at night before the family’s departure, he asked Auntie Shrew to take children out when Justin visited Elizabeth, fully aware of the situation between them. At the day Brisby family left, he was seen silently agreeing with the council appointing Justin as new leader of Im-Humans in behalf of late Jonathan. Mr. Ages then noticed a small changes from Elizabeth as she seemed to cease the aging and inwardly muttered how Jonathan could be unpredictable yet so devoted at the same time as he wished the Brisby family good luck in their journey with newly built moving manor.

Isabella Montgomery was a young IM-Human lady living among the IM-humans in the Bund. Widely known as a blooming belle of her society, she has blond hair and violet eyes. As a little girl, she was imprisoned with her mother an her twin brother Isaac after her father was sent away to war prison camp and they were experimented in NIMH facility. However, they were rescued by Jonathan Brisby and his allies, agreed to live in the Bund ever since they heard of her father killed by enemy soldiers and lost their homes by bomb. At one point, Isabella was nearly caught by enemy soldiers but was saved by Justin who slain them before they could harm her further. Hence, little Isabella developed a huge crush on him, even told her fellow IM-Human peers she dreams to marry him when she’s older. Although, her peers laughed it off.  She also viewed Jonathan as a perfect hero and never thought of the idea of him settle down and marry normal woman. Eventually, she was shocked to hear Jonathan’s death and that he has wife and children.

A natural bookworm with kind heart, when she heard Brisby family are to move their house as Timothy got ill, she volunteered with other IM-Human females to help the widow as Isabella was eager to suggest interesting books to Brisby children as they have shown interests on written texts other than what their late father gave to them. Although Isabella was jealous of Elizabeth and proclaimed she dreams to marry Justin, she was puzzled when Elizabeth respond with maternal smile as Isabella’s innocent crush on Justin reminded her of her behavior around Jonathan when she was her age. Witnessing Elizabeth’s fragile feature as human yet her fear overcame by her practical view of reality and determination to protect her children, Isabella sees why Justin developed romantic interest towards the Brisby widow. Thus, becoming much nicer to Elizabeth, even assisting her to visit Jonathan’s grave. It was revealed that at one point Isabella confessed her feelings to Justin, but he politely and firmly rejected her. 

When Elizabeth voiced her decision to volunteer to distract Drago, Isabella was immensely concerned as she knows Drago’s amorous misdeeds and the possibility of him hurting her. For Elizabeth’s safety, Isabella snuck out to watch over her during the mission to drug Drago with sleeping powder and was seen relieved when Elizabeth completed the task. However, when returning to Brisby Manor, Isabella was shocked to find Nicodemus dead and the manor was immobilized. Sensing Jenner’s sudden grasp on the power to be suspicious, she speculated he was involved with Nicodemus’ death and the immobilization of Brisby manor. Along with Sullivan, she rushed to warn Justin when Jenner abducted Elizabeth. Later, she was seen shocked to see Brisby manor destroyed, but in relief to see Elizabeth and her children unharmed. Along with IM-Humans, Isabella was seen in tears of joy to see Nicodemus revived and Timothy alive as IM-Human. Through days IM-Humans help Elizabeth with restoring her family house, Isabella noticed the growing crestfallen look on Justin’s face, then realized that when the manor reconstruction is complete Elizabeth and Justin have to be in separate ways. Catching a hint of Elizabeth’s feelings for Justin, Isabella gave the two some privacy while helping Auntie Shrew with children out of house. Isabella was seen next day, bidding goodbye to Brisby children as she has grown attached to them. Days went by, in new Bund at Thorn Valley, Isabella became a librarian helping Nicodemus with recording his prophecies and recording the reformations on the book as Justin became a new leader of IM-Humans.

Jenner Winford was a military commander during war and in the Bund, he was a minister of Military Arms. At one point, he used to have a wife who died of childbirth and had a son named Racso who was raised with love and care by him. However at the hardship of war, Jenner and his son was captured and sent to the NIMH along with other soldiers where he become an IM-Human through experiment as the Bund was founded in a land where he promised his son to build their new house at. However, as Jonathan helped him and others escaped, Jenner returned to his career as commander and with his newfound strength and intelligence in warfare, the enemy troops retreated. But, Jenner received a news that his son—who was 11 at that time—was killed by tortures in concentration camp of NIMH, hence the villainy of Jenner began with lament and anger.

With new rank as minister of Military Arms in Bund, a newfound hatred of humans, growing rage and vengeance against NIMH, he Jenner was obsessed with murdering whoever related with the NIMHs, even torturing NIMH scientists’ families to death and was consumed with lust for power to become a Prime Minister of the Bund. Once a year he would visit the very spot where he wanted to build a house with his son to remind himself in determination to keep the Bund protected from humans. At one point, he overheard Nicodemus discussing with Mr. Ages, Justin and Jonathan about moving the bund. Jenner was against the idea and had occasional heated argument with Jonathan. The last time they have spoken to one another, Jonathan told him his murderous rage on humans was not what late Racso would have wanted and told him to let go of the past. 

Year after the death of Jonathan Brisby, Jenner returned victorious with the war against enemy nations and had gathered quite amount of followers within the Bund as a group who prefer to stay instead of moving it to the Thorn Valley. When encountering Jonathan’s widow, Jenner was briefly taken back of the unheard news of Jonathan having a wife and children. However, he smelt the opportunity and expressed hospitality to Elizabeth Brisby. He was aware Nicodemus would actively partake in moving the Brisby house with his magic, so he’d use that opportunity to finally get rid of Nicodemus, taking over the position as Prime Minister of the Bund and expand its territory to make the entire nation his. Through these days, he actually developed obsession towards Elizabeth Brisby, but unable to approach her as she was with Justin most of the time.

When at the day of moving, Jenner had his men immobilize the Brisby mansion by destroyed Jonathan’s magical trinkets and the enchanted strings of Jeremy, successfully severed the pact between Elizabeth and the crow spirit as the house’s weight crushed Nicodemus to death. When Elizabeth returned with a news of NIMH approaching next day, Jenner swiftly took control of situations by announcing that he would declare war on NIMH and the humans that follows the inhumane organizations. Holding her children and majority of IM-Humans as hostages through his men, Jenner abducted Elizabeth away persuading her to stay in the old Bund with him, even attempt to gaslight her into believe this could be what Jonathan wanted; his family stay in the Bund he founded. Seeing the true colors of him, Elizabeth refused firmly. When Jenner was about to rape her, he was stopped by Justin in time as Sullivan brought him to them. Enraged at the betrayal, Jenner severely wounded Sullivan as he and Justin engaged into sword fight. Recognizing the sword once belonged to Jonathan and its blade matched with same cutting traces from the immobilized house, Justin angrily called him out as murderer of two occasions; Jonathan’s and Nicodemus’. Jenner bitterly admitted that he indeed killed Jonathan and Nicodemus, claiming the two were trying to destroy the community he tried so hard to protect as he finished he had learned to “take WHATEVER he can, WHEN he can”. However, Justin disarmed and wounded him before going back to Elizabeth. When Jenner was about to finish him, wounded Sullivan threw his dagger and managed to stab Jenner on the back through his heart, causing the corrupt IM-Human to fall to his death at the similar spot he died; only the difference, is that while Jonathan was found dead in the arms of Virgin Mary’s statue, Jenner was found dead below the same statue.

Posthumously, Jenner was labeled as community traitor. But, Nicodemus concluded that he is a fallen man consumed with wrath on himself and the broken heart of being away from his long lost son that made him vulnerable in temptations for power and revenge. At the end, however days after the Brisby family’s departure, it was revealed Jenner’s son Racso was not dead, but actually has been alive and become an IM-Human.

NIMH AU: Racso the Beloved Son of Jenner

I finally drew Racso, son of Jenner, in my human version^^

Racso was originally a character from "Racso and the Rats of NIMH" the 1986 sequel to the popular book, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, written by Jane Leslie Conly the daughter of Robert C. O'Brien who wrote original novel "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". Meaning, Racso is not my OC.

Okay if you wanna do a sequel to your AMAZING Secret of Nimh fanfic Human Au. First of all don't have Martin be the villain that was dumb dumb in the movie and made no sense. Second have all of the Brisby Kids play a role in the sequel. And this let Elizabeth be involved like as a guiding hand

So far, there are the following ideas"

Brisby Family's Journey to the Thorn Valley: Realizing the changes in Brisby siblings, their mother Elizabeth decided to move to Thorn Valley for them to learn the ways of IM-Humans (Rats of NIMH) to survive.

Brisby Siblings as Heroic Figures: Teresa Brisby is a healer/witch type of character. Her DNA as half IM-Human helped her find herbal/botanical effects to heal the IM-Humans. Martin Brisby is the biggest among the siblings, trained by Brutus with swords-fight and martial arts, strengthened his inhuman speed and strength gifted from his half IM-Human DNA. Timothy Brisby ended up have his DNA mutated as FULL IM-Human after sickness, he was taught to control immense amount of magic and strength under Nicodemus' guidance. Cynthia Brisby developed enhanced talent of archery with purifying magic, she is occasionally a protector of IM-Human and human children alike.

Crossover Ideas: Brisby Family meets characters of Thumbelina/An American Tail/Anastasia, etc. As they journey with their moving/flying Brisby House around the world, they meet the following characters from other Don Bluth films.
