O LIVRO DA SELVA, Rudyard Kipling
e-book grátis O LIVRO DA SELVA, Rudyard Kipling

/Okay off-topic but since The Jungle Book 2016 is my Favourite Movie of All Time Ever and I’ve just watched the trailer for Serkis’s film and all the extended interviews I’m gonna rant about it for a minute cause I have THOUGHTS
Warning: Very long
Okay first off I massively respect that it’s drawing from the book and trying to distinguish itself from the Disney version. Massive points for that
BUT this is so fresh on Disney’s coattails that it’s impossible to distinguish the two. Even the opening shot of Chil (sorry, RANN) the kite makes you think Favreau. And I’ll talk about this more but some lines and shots are STRAIGHT from the Favreau version
Serkis’s enthusiasm sells this for me, if nothing else. He’s so happy to be making this and to be playing Baloo it’s hard not to get on board
The animals look like shit, let’s get that out of the way first. Motion capture was...the wrong choice. Like, the faces in Favreau’s film aren’t perfect (notably on the wolves, Khan, and Bagheera). But here they are SO distinctly human because that’s Serkis’s calling card.
Christian Bale sounds so much like Ben Kingsley to me. It looks like they’re going the same character direction with Bagheera, where in the book he’s like...Disney Baloo levels of chill. I wish the delivery showed that more
The monkeys dragging Mowgli up a cliff??? The fact they can’t speak??? Come on, that’s straight out of 2016
The shot of the landscape when the monkeys drag him over the top does nothing but remind me of 2016 as well. It has the same sandy kind of colour palette the ‘wolf’ scenes did
and JUST after saying the monkeys have no structure Serkis says they ‘pay/are in service to...’ That COMPLETELY undermines his last point and just makes the audience think ‘King Louie.’ Also he doesn’t tell us who it is? Kaa? Shere Khan?? Either one is a no one both accounts.
In fairness, the actor playing Mowgli looks REALLY good
shot of Mowgli on Bagheera’s back over a waterfall between the trees. Not bit-for-bit like that iconic shot from Favreau, but close enough to remind you of it
I liked that initial shot of Shere Khan, but after reading @cavetigrim ‘s post about it I’ve changed my mind. It’s a good shot, but makes no sense. How does he hunt?? Or fight??? A limp in his back leg looks less cool but makes SO much more sense
Also, I can’t really tell but it looks like Tabaqui is a striped hyena? Okay, guess I won’t be getting a jackal, again. Are we seeing some anime influences here?
Me: In the Disney movie Shere Khan’s face is too flat, it looks kind of weird. Andy Serkis: I can fix that! Me:...okay Nevermind.
Honestly I feel like this would be stronger if they made hyperrealistic CGI animals and just had their mouths move with dialogue. A bit weird, but it would go far to separate it from the Disney version
Shot of main character climbing cliff as the kite flies by...Disney
I admit, the human stuff seems really interesting. And some of the backgrounds are beautifully shot
Baloo looks fun. A totally 360 from the Disney version which I am totally here for. And we know Serkis can act his ass off
I wish the wolves looked as good as Council Rock did
Hearing Serkis talk about Hathi is interesting. Though covering him in moss is a bit of a stretch. I wonder if he’ll talk?
Slowed down the bit of the two wolves fighting and there’s a monkey running up the cliffs...final battle scene?
Baloo looks awesome, just to reiterate
Shere Khan swiping at a man brandishing fire towards him? I hate having to keep saying this but...DISNEY
Okay either the wolves are attacking Mowgli and Bagheera is defending him or Bagheera goes batshit crazy because in another clip he attacks Mowgli AND Baloo....Gotta be honest, I REALLY want to know why
Everything about Kaa...from the animation to Blanchett’s delivery...eurgh. It actually makes me appreciate Scarlett Johannson’s performance more which is something I NEVER thought I would say
Animals all lining up in front of the elephants....A ‘Letting in the Jungle’ type scene?
Apparently Kaa is some kind of “Prophet” or “Seer”...Why won’t any movie just give me a big fuck-off chaotic neutral snake who just wants to eat a ton of monkeys? Also, telling the past? Isn’t that exactly what another giant python did two years ago?
“The Jungle is no longer safe for you,” - Bagheera, 2016, and also Bagheera, 2018, apparently.
Baloo has wrinkles on his forehead asdfghjkl
I’m kind of...alright with the bad cgi. Yeah, it’s bad, but I don’t NEED to pretend the animals are real
Okay there’s a shot of Akela in the behind the scenes interview but I first though he was basically because he’s so much...like a hyena
Okay in the full daylight shot Tabaqui is a BROWN hyena? Native to AFRICA? Either that a really fucked up Striped Hyena
Kaa is...a green anaconda. A’ight.
I don’t know what it is but Baloo wins me over every time he’s on screen haha. Apparently there’s a scene where Mowgli, Baloo, and Bagheera are in the Cold Lairs vs Shere Khan, Tabaqui, and the monkeys, which I am totally down for, but are the monkeys working for Shere Khan? Like in the anime? I’m not really too keen on that tbh
Okay Bagheera is trying to straight up kill Mowgli. That look he gives him is so strong that I want to see the movie just to know why Bagheera’s attacking him. Then he goes for Baloo’s fucking neck goddam
Again, the actor playing Mowgli looks phenomenal
Overall, of course I’m going to see it. It’s the Jungle Book (sorry, Mowgli). Serkis’ enthusiam and real passion for the project have won me over entirely, even if I don’t think it’s going to be perfect...or that good at all tbh. It reminds me a lot of the recent live action Tarzan movie, which was a fun watch, but nothing substantial.
I really want to root for this movie, but with every second shot I’m just reminded of Favreau’s version and how good it is. I don’t want to constantly be comparing the two but that’s all this trailer did for me
And there’s absolutely no way it’s going to meet me ‘8-cry Jungle Book standard of excellence’ (meaning I cried eight separate times when I first saw the 2016 movie), the impossible standard on which I judge every movie I’ve seen since then

Remember back in 2015, when I made my own recast version of the 1967 Disney version of the Jungle Book? Well, I've decided to make a new, revamped version of my recast, with mostly new characters.
The Cast: Mowgli - Bart Simpson (from "The Simpsons") Baloo - Patrick Star ( from "SpongeBob SquarePants") Bagheera - Chester  (from "Bunnicula") Shere Khan - Baikinman ( from "Anpanman")  King Louie - Roy (from "U.S. Acres”)  Colonel Hathi - Kernel Corn (from "Plants vs. Zombies Heroes")  Winifred - Rose (from "Plants vs. Zombies Heroes") Kaa - Psycho the Snake (from "The Bluffers") (He's a snake, so it fits.) Shanti - Sherri Mackleberry (from "The Simpsons")  Raksha - Mama Bear (from "Berenstain Bears")  Rama - Papa Bear (also from "Berenstain Bears")  Flunkey - Booker (from " U.S. Acres ")  Buzzie, Flaps, Ziggy, And Dizzy - Teslo, Seismo, Krog, and Gobba (from the " Mixels")

From fiction to fact:Mowgli
My article in Deccan Herald’s School Edition about Mowgli, the fictional character created by Rudyard Kipling, which leapt off the pages of his books
Tumblr media
From fiction to fact
Mowgli
Janaki Murali
When Rudyard Kipling created the classic - of a lost human child, brought up by a wolf family in an imaginary Indian forest, he never would have expected Mowgli to leap out of the pages of the book and become an iconic character.
Mowgli and his animal friends were so beloved by children and adults alike, that even hundred years later, somewhere in the world, a Mowgli story is being read; performed as a school play; watched on television; or seen on the big screens.
Mowgli made his first appearance in a short story ‘In the Rukh’ written by Kipling as far back as in 1893. In this short story, Mowgli is an adult, who is discovered by an English forest ranger and drafted into the forestry service. The story is set during the British Raj in the fictional town of Pench in Seoni. The officer discovers the secret of Mowgli’s superhuman strength, of how this came about from being raised by wolves. In this story, Mowgli goes on to marry a butler’s daughter, has a son and goes back to the jungle to live with his wolf brothers.
In the next two years, Kipling went on to write Jungle Book and the Second Jungle Book, where he built upon the character of Mowgli as a child. In these stories, Mowgli loses his parents to a tiger attack and is adopted by mother wolf Nisha. Mowgli’s adventures with his wolf brothers and his animal friends form many delightful stories in these two books.
Besides Mowgli, other beloved characters in the Jungle Book stories, include Shere Khan, the main antagonist; Kaa, the python; Bagheera, the black panther and Baloo, the bear - Mowgli’s two adorable mentor-friends, who teach him to use his unique abilities to survive in the jungle. Several other animal and human characters also pepper the jungle tales.  Mowgli’s adventures with his delightful animal friends are sometimes heart wrenching, sometimes sad, and even dark, but mostly fun.
The reason Mowgli leapt out of the pages of the Jungle book and became almost human was because he appealed to readers. Here was an orphan, who lost his parents to a bad, mean predator and had to face loss, abandonment and deal with his fears of not being able to fit in with his adoptive wolf family. He was not good enough and was under threat of being thrown out of the pack, if he did not pass a series of tests. And, this is where Bagheera and Baloo’s roles as teachers and mentors became very important, as they train Mowgli to use his unique skills to his advantage. The growth of Mowgli in the stories was the journey of a hero, who conquered his worst fears to face his battles with Shere Khan, in a universal triumph of good vs evil.
Mowgli’s adventures, have been adapted into film right from 1942 - Disney’s animated versions; Russian animated versions; Japanese animated TV series and of course, Indian TV versions in Indian languages, which were a huge favourite with Indian kids.  There were BBC radio plays, including an original version written for theatre by Kipling, which surfaced several years later. There was even a stamp created by Russia of Mowgli and his friends.
As recently as 2016 and 2018, there have been live action feature films of Mowgli’s adventures in the jungle. Among many actors, who played Mowgli, was Neel Sethi, who appeared in the 2016 3D version and Rohan Chand who appeared in the 2018 version. Freida Pinto played Messua, Mowgli’s adoptive human mother in the 2018 version. Several famous actors, including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch and Priyanka Chopra have lent their voices to the various characters in the Jungle Book films.
Not only did readers and viewers find Mowgli fascinating, so did other writers. Edgar Rice Burroughs was majorly influenced by the character of Mowgli, when he created Tarzan. It seems like a natural progression for the child Mowgli to grow into an adult Tarzan, right?  This is not all. Some writers have written new stories of Mowgli, even featuring a female Mowgli.
What made Mowgli into a legend was that the Jungle Book stories not only stood the test of time, but generations of new readers around the world continue to fall in love with Mowgli and his friends.

🇺🇸 The Adventures of Mowgli (The Jungle Book) 💎 1967 1973 - 60fps HD - masterpiece the animation
The best and most complete cartoon adaptation of the Jungle Book. English (American) adaptation 1996.
Советский мультфильм "Маугли" на английском языке.
This is the second film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's work released in 1967. Even though the movie was not conceived as a reaction to the Disney adaptation, it proves an interesting contrast, being more faithful to the epic and primal content of Kipling's original work. The adaptation appeared more adult and in spirit is closer to Kipling's book. There are scenes of mass fights and duels, blood and death are shown, there is charged atmosphere, suspense. Subjects of life and death, debt and feelings, heroism of the soldier and human essence arise.
Voices: Charlton Heston, Sam Elliot, Dana Delany, Matthew Labyorteaux, Donald Bishop, Ian Corlett, Scott McNeil, Cam Lane, Cathy Weseluck, David Kaye, Alec Willows, Pauline Newstone, Venus Terzo, Jim Brynes, Don Brown, Lalainia Lindberg, Christopher Gaze,  Harry Kalensky.

Original vs Remake of The Jungle Book
The jungle book, an animation movie inspired by the Rudyard Kipling “Mowgli” stories has had a series of movies filmed for children starting from the 1967 animation cartoon to the high-quality motion graphical live-action movie in 2016. Both movies are about a little boy who was brought up in the jungle by a pack of wolves, but the two movies depict the storyline in a vastly different way to each other, where it can be compared to the graphical structure, they both were made on.
The story narrates about a jungle in India and about a little boy who has been abandoned in the forest and then brought by the animals itself. The storyline can be the exact same as per the 1967 cartoon animation to the 2016 live-action sequel, but with more developed characters and the scenery.
Story shows a little boy (Mowgli) in small red cloth covering the privates, and a bear(Baloo), a panther(Bagheera), a snake (Kaa), a tiger (Shere khan), the wolves (Akheela and Raksha) as the main characters of the two movies and they play major roles for the success of the movies in their own specific way.
In comparison, Baloo’s character is more specific in the 2016 sequel and it depicts a gigantic grizzly bear that plays a more serious character rather than the blue bear which plays in the 1967 cartoon animation. And the 2016 movie depicts the bond between the two in a far wider range in the sequel rather than the cartoon as well. The action scene of Baloo depicts the strength of the bear to a greater extent as well, especially, in the monkey temple where Baloo protects Mowgli and fights to save him, again showing the bond between the two. Thus we can see the relationship is like a teacher and also a friend between the two, through the scenes where the two go to bathe in the river while singing and caring for each other.
Bagheera’s character is of a great black panther whose character has been given more prominence in the sequel yet again than of the cartoon, showing the greatness of the panther and also showing that the character is mostly feared based on the image, which shows at the beginning of the movie sequel where the panther jumps on Mowgli through the trees. And this scene was depicted with the action-based music giving a scary tensed situation to it, where the movie clearly depicts the character as one of the most respectable and also feared personality, but also the good in the character as well when the panther starts speaking out quite friendly towards the human cub. The 1967 cartoon animation, however, does not give the character much depth as the introduction of the character even starts with gloomy music and also involving humor to the character. Bagheera plays the role of the care-taker of the human cub Mowgli in the movies. The scariness of the character is also shown in the action scene in the monkey temple and also in the fight scene of Shere Khan the tiger as well, being the only character to challenge the tiger.
The Snake Kaa gives yet again more prominence to the movie live-action sequel of 2016 as it depicts the reality of life through it. Right at the introduction through a piece of music which gives out danger, shows a large snake on many branches. Kaa is enormous in size and is also very scary, and through its eyes shows the truth about the man-cub, where and how he came to be in the jungle, the music changes and the man-cub was about to get eaten, which can actually relate to the truth of life, which can depict danger on its truthfulness and then it can also put you in danger as well. The cartoon animation of 1967, however, mocks the character giving a humorous personality to the snake and not giving the character the prominence, it needs. Kaa’s ability to turn the prey mentally unstable depicts that truth can also take make you unstable in different parts of life. But the fact remains as to how Baloo the great grizzly bear be able to fight off the enormous python, where the directors tend to hide the action sequence from the audience and at the end of it, Mowgli turns out alive and Baloo turns out more alive than ever without any injuries as to forget the fact that he actually did fight off an enormous python. Which actually gives Baloo a heroic tendency to its character, but still appears to be humorous.
Speaking of the action scene of the fight between the excellent Grizzly bear and the enormous snake, is one of the main battles of the movie live-action sequel of 2016 where the video is hidden from the audience, but embraces a huge fight between the two through the sound effects and also through the extremely fast-moving snake body. If it actually showed, it would’ve been very dangerous yet heavenly to watch as well.
The tiger Shere Khan portrays the villain of the movie, but the character does not give out its scariness in the 1967 cartoon animation where the personality gives out more fairytale villain characteristics rather than of it is actually scary. The 2016 live-action sequel, however, has given much prominence to the character having the face burnt from fire as well, which clearly gives out the message as to why the tiger actually hates humans. The villainy character plays a major role in the movie where its jealousy is feared by the whole jungle and its revenge has given the movie a great advantage. The revenge is clearly shown when the tiger enters the gathering and it is shown that the great character is feared by all through the slow but fearsome music and also it’s slow but steady walk which gives the character a very dangerous accord to it. Also, the scene where the tiger actually attacks the man holding the fire shows the braveness of the character yet being it evil as well.
Mowgli however shows as a mere human cub who is timid and weak and is introduced to us in a way where it’s running away from something dangerous (panther) which depicts the characters survival abilities through the music and also the voice of the character giving the character the advantage of being brave as the main character an ability it must  have. The only real character in this live-action sequel gives a vast message to the audience through its brave personality and the will to stand facing any danger he meets up with, where it’s clearly shown in the scene where he meets Kaa the python and he did not tremble but spoke freely towards the great beast. The abilities of Mowgli is great as he even faced Shere Khan without fear, but the wolf cubs even actually eared the tiger, depicting the braveness of the character in a vast way but create a pun as in the beginning he was on an exam quest to qualify to be an actual wolf cub.
The two movies have vast differences among the two where the 2016 live-action sequel has made every scene in a better to a major extent while also giving depth to each moment. The start of the movie also starts with action-packed music where the entertainment is widely discussed. Clearly, the whole movie is very advanced in the 2016 live-action sequel where it has given attention to the tiniest detail as well, to the background music of the forest along with its bird sounds as well giving the audience an experience of a real forest. The growl of the panther is also very realistic where it shows at the beginning of the movie where the panther jumps on the man-cub with a fearsome growl. The voices of the characters have been given accordingly and is also very suitable to each and every character where the voices gives out a clear understanding of the character as well, for example, Raksha’s voice, the motherly voice which gives out the truth and understanding from every word spoken, and gives out the personality of a mother, loving and caring to its children yet very brave and fearsome in the face of danger to its children as well. Also, Kaa’s voice mesmerizing sweet voice which is very scary but yet godly to the ears of the listener, and the voice is also given more prominence with the scary yet truthful music in the background, in the scene where Kaa approaches Mowgli and shows the truth of his life, through its eyes.
The battles of the movie sequel are very entertaining, and yet so fearsome as well and is clearly and well given prominence as well, as for an example the battle between Bagheera and Shere Khan where her brave character actually challenges the mighty tiger and the music also depicts the great fight scene even though she was beaten through it. The importance of the fight and also the fearsome of it is clearly depicted through the background music as well as the action the scene shows. This can also be seen in the final battle between Shere Khan and Mowgli with Baloo giving out motivating music in the background, hence giving out the message to the audience that it’s the final battle and also of the great challenge where a timid young boy challenges a great and a mighty creature like a tiger.
2016 live-action sequel has given depth to the movie, along with the right message towards the characters as well as the storyline.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle
The newest re-imagining of Rudyard Kipling’s famous tale, The Jungle Book is a much darker version of the most recent film released by Disney two years back. Mowgli is very un-disneyfied (if that’s a word) film. Whilst it takes some getting used to, the film slowly begins to grow on you, especially once you realise there’s no singing bears.
It’s hard to not compare it to the classic animated Disney film, and the other Disney film the other year. Unfortunately, it will be compared to them. There are many good things about this version. This Mowgli wasn’t as annoying as the last one. It was fun to see the whole man village setting. That hadn’t been explored at all in the other two.The chase scene was exhilarating. Bagheera was much more developed, he had more screen time, this could possibly be because Christian Bale was voicing him but still, it was nice to see. The previous film has been very much all about Baloo, so it was nice to see a change. Speaking of Baloo, this was very different to what we have known. Andy Serkis (also director) voices Baloo as a sort of East End gangster, it felt odd, but it sort of worked.
Tumblr media
Whilst there is still the whole ‘shere khan vs Mowgli’ story there are different elements in the story. This does make it interesting. The 2016 version was basically the same as the original except for some updated and improved scenes from a technologically point of view. It was darker which again was a nice change, we love the Disney songs, but this felt, at times more realistic. However it would have been nice for it to have been more gritty and dark. There was one pretty horrific scene but other than that, nothing really over a 12A certification. I think this will let it down slightly. It’s slightly too dark for children under 12, but possibly a bit too tame for adults.
Tumblr media
I felt there were a few things that let it down. Freida Pinto’s character as Mowgli’s adopted mum was basically non-existent. She was hardly used and had very few, if any lines. That was a shame. Cate Blanchlett as Kaa was odd. Kaa was like Galadriel, sort of all-knowing all-seeing. It was just really weird and didn’t make much sense. Again Kaa wasn’t really in it much and when she was it set the film back in terms of it’s realism.
3/5 It’s an odd film to be honest. Once you get over the fact it’s not the story you know and Baloo isn’t dancing all through the film it’s good. There’s different things happening to what you know which is good but when it breaks that barrier it stops, and doesn’t explore it further which is a real shame because it becomes a bit messy. It’s not better than the 2016 version, but it’s not worse. It’s just...different.

A film analysis of  the jungle book(animated)and the remake of jungle book (live-action)
Let me first start with the jungle book animated movie. This movie we all watched as kids we loved it, we all wanted to be a child who was raised in the jungle, I mean it's amazing. And I would be horned to write a film analysis for one of my childhood movies. Let's start out by the:
 directors' name Wolfgang Reitherman.
Studio - Walt Disney Pictures.
Cast - Louis Prima, Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot.
  Writer - Rudyard Kipling.
Well, what about the 2016 live-action movie. That was great as well. So the same with the animated let's start out by the:
Director - Jon Favreau
Writer - Justin Marks
Cast - Neel Sethi ( Mowgli), Bill Murray( Baloo), Ben Kingsley ( Bagheera), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), Lupita Nyong’o (Raksha), Scarlett Johansson (Kaa), Giancarlo Esposito(Akela), Christopher Walken (King Louie), Garry Shandling(Ikki), Brighton Rose ( Gray).
     Analysis of animated movie.
    1,   Style
          1a.  Sound
The sound at the beginning does sound very old and ancient. When the credits were going even that sound was very ancient. In the beginning, there was a narrator speaking, and you could tell this narrator was old from the way he spoke. The sound of the baby crying didn't really sound like how a baby would cry nowadays. When they showed the wolves at the beginning the sound changed into more joyful. And later into suspicions and seek after that sound changed into more joyful sound again. All the character voices sound very old. In the beginning, the song that was playing kept repeating throughout the movie in small bits. Mowgli's voice changes from a middle-age child to a small baby in a few seconds. The snakes' voice is a males voice. The small sounds that come when the snake falls down and while it goes ways the sounds are not realistic.  The sound ain't that really more of a cartoon.
        1b. colour.
The color during the day time was all greens. Once it came to the night time and to the fight scence it was all blues.
   2. Story
The story from the animation is a little bit different from the live-action. The dialogues are also different from the live-action. The ending of both films was also different in the animation he goes to the man-village because he sees a guy. But in the live-action, he doesn't go to the village. And the fight scenes are all completely different as well.
The part where the snake attacks Mowgli, the animated movie Bagheera saves him and the boy later saves Bagheera. However, in the live-action, the snake shows how he ended up in the jungle, and Baloo saves him, from the snake.
   3. Representation.
Most of the characters were the same but some were changed for example the snake Kaa in the animation was a males voice. However, in the live-action, it was a female voice. But other than that everything seemed to be fine.
                   Analysis of live-action movie.
Sound.
All the sounds in the movie are all reality the animals sound. The songs in the background are also good it keeps you in the mood. When watching the movie.
2.story.
The story is different from how its beginnings and also the ending.
CONCLUSION
However, what I learned from analyzing these two movies is that from a good movie you can make something more interesting. But I would have liked to know what would have happened to the boy if he went to the village in the end like in the animation. But the live-action was amazing.
