Comrade Mengistu Haile Mariam, a prominent opponent of colonialism, whose regime provided invaluable assistance to the liberation of Zimbabwe from the colonialist white supremacist regime of Ian Smith, now faces an uncertain future within the very country he helped liberate.
Since 1991, when the Derg regime was overthrown and replaced by the neo-colonialist regime of Meles Zinawi, Comrade Mengistu has been in refuge in Zimbabwe. Seldom has a historical figure been maligned on the scale that comrade Mengistu has been. On December 2006, the Federal High Court in Ethiopia tried Mengistu and 24 other members of the Derg regime (1974-1991) in absentia. This kangaroo court brought forward charges ranging from genocide, homicide and illegal imprisonment to illegal property seizure. Mengistu and 11 other members of the Derg, including Legesse Afsaw, former Ethiopian vice-president Fisseha Desta and former Prime Minister Fikresellassie Wogderes, were sentenced to death.
However, the ZANU-PF in Zimbabwe, appreciative of the historical role of this great man and the progressive regime he headed, has refused to extradite him to Ethiopia, where he faces certain torture and death at the hands of a vindictive regime representing the interests of the very classes he waged a titanic struggle against. However, with Zimbabwe itself the victim of an insidious policy of regime-change, the future for the revolutionary looks increasingly uncertain. True to its nature, the pro-imperialist opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has included as part of its future policy the extradition of Mengistu back to Ethiopia. One can only remark that this is a shameless example of utter ingratitude.
To understand why Comrade Mengistu remains such a threatening figure for Zinawi’s compradorial regime, we must go beyond the historical re-writing of Ethiopian history that the Imperialists and Zinawi’s regime have attempted and reclaim the progressive, indeed revolutionary, legacy of the Derg regime.

AFRICANGLOBE – Life in Zimbabwe is now worse than under former President Robert Mugabe, according to Fadzayi Mahere of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). The opposition in Zimbabwe has called for protests over conditions in the country, accusing the government of economic mismanagement. Since 2017, Zimbabwe has been led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, following the forced resignation of his predecessor Robert Mugabe by the military.

Recall that Mugabe had run Zimbabwe since 1980, after leading the armed liberation struggle against the white racist Rhodesian regime of Ian Smith. Twenty years on, he was threatened with probable electoral defeat. So his belated, urgent and chaotic land reform – against a few thousand mainly-reactionary white settlers who for a century had controlled nearly all Zimbabwe’s good farmland – gained him permanent hatred from the Western establishment. Though land redistribution was justifiably popular in some circles, Mnangagwa last year admitted that the acquisitions had “robbed the country of its breadbasket status,” given how much of the staple maize needed to be imported (even while tobacco production hit record highs). As a result, land acquisition was “now a thing of the past,” the new president promised. Riddled with corruption and dictatorial tendencies, Mugabe’s ruling party – the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) – had meanwhile become widely hated in the cities, which were mainly governed by the liberal opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), whose constituents gave Mnangagwa’s 2017 coup their immediate, joyful approval. But the celebration was brief and the hangover long, for MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai died of cancer early last year and the mid-2018 national election witnessed Mnangagwa victory’s, one that his MDC successor, Nelson Chamisa, considered to be rigged Read more; https://www.globalresearch.ca/zimbabwe-capitalist-crisis-ultra-neoliberal-policy-mugabesque-authoritarianism/5667409 (at The Community Reading Group) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2yEsFkH30a/?igshid=7zz5n4abvw6n

Zimbabwe: Activist opposition members await trial
Activist Rashid Mahiya and opposition Members of Parliament Charlton Hwende and Joanna Mamombe are awaiting trial on the charge of ‘subverting a constitutional government’. The charge attracts a sentence of more than 20 years in prison. All three have been released on bail and are awaiting trial.

His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa Munhumutapa Building Corner Sam Nujoma / Samora Machel Harare, Zimbabwe Email: [email protected]
H.E. Ambassador Ammon. M. Mutembwa Embassy of Zimbabwe 1608 New Hampshire Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20009 Phone: 202 332 7100 I Fax: 202 483 9326 E-Mail: [email protected] Salutation: Dear Ambassador
Your Excellency President Mnangagwa,
I am concerned with the trumped-up charges against Rashid Mahiya, Joanna Mamombe and Charlton Hwende.
All three have been charged with ‘subverting a constitutional government’ which attracts a sentence of more than 20 years in prison in an ongoing government crackdown on human rights defenders, activists and opposition members. The charges are in connection with a three-day national shutdown called for by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) on 14-16 January in protest against a hike in fuel prices in Zimbabwe.
Rashid Mahiya, an activist and Chairperson of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition group was arrested on 26 February. Joanna Mamombe, the youngest female Member of Parliament (MP) with the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change Alliance(MDC-A), was arrested on 2 March while attending a parliamentary workshop. Charlton Hwende, an MDC Member of Parliament for Kuwadzana was arrested on 5 March upon arrival at the airport in Harare after being out of the country since 21 December 2018 for medical treatment. Rashid was granted bail on 7 March and Charlton got bail on 8 March whilst Joanna was granted bail on 9 March.
They are awaiting trial.
I call on you to ensure that the charges against Rashid Mahiya, Joanna Mamombe and Charlton Hwende are dropped immediately; end the crackdown on human rights defenders, activists and opposition members in Zimbabwe and ensure full respect for the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and that the judicial system is not misused to persecute perceived opponents of ZANU PF, the ruling party.
Yours sincerely,

Post-election clashes in Zimbabwe turn deadly
Protests in Zimbabwe’s historic elections turned bloody on Wednesday as a man was shot dead during demonstrations over alleged vote fraud and President Emmerson Mnangagwa appealed for calm.
The man died after soldiers fired live ammunition during opposition protests in downtown Harare, AFP reporters saw.
The polls — the first since autocratic president Robert Mugabe was forced out by a brief military takeover in November — had offered Zimbabwe the chance of turning the page on a brutal chapter of its past.
But the mood quickly descended into anger and chaos as supporters of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) opposition declared they had been cheated.
“You said you were better than Mugabe — you are the picture of Mugabe,” shouted one young male protester wearing a white T-shirt. “We need security for the people.”
Official results showed that the ruling ZANU-PF party had easily won the most seats in the parliamentary ballot — strengthening Mnangagwa’s prospects of holding onto power in the key presidential vote.

ZIMBABWE WHERE THE COUNTRY IS IN TOTAL SHUTDOWN.
We are now in our third day of complete shutdown throughout the whole of Zimbabwe. Banks are closed, schools are closed, roads are closed in and out of the main towns and transport systems have shut down.
There are no newspapers to be bought, the Internet has been shut down by the government and everything is at a complete standstill.
People are too afraid to move around as a result of the burning of vehicles by vigilante groups and the complete dearth of any updated information or warnings due to the total social media blackout. This means that no WhatsApp messages or photos can be sent, no one can access Facebook or Messenger, and the situation is very tense.
In some centres it almost feels apocalyptic. We have heard gunfire, and before the Internet was closed down, saw pictures of dead and wounded people. It is unclear how many people have died but before the media blackout, it was reported that there had been five deaths and more than 200 people had been arbitrarily arrested.
Elements of the police and military are also involved in ensuring that there is a complete shutdown. People in civilian dress armed with AK-47 rifles have been seen in some areas. It is clear that these are military personnel.
Amnesty International has condemned the military crackdown and has called on the Zimbabwean authorities to ensure restraint by security forces and respect the public’s right to protest.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights reported prior to the blackout that they had received reports of soldiers and police breaking into homes in townships overnight and assaulting suspected demonstrators.
Contacts in the diplomatic corps and the political opposition are also completely in the dark, along with the rest of us.
This morning I spoke to Nelson Chamisa, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance, and it is clear that no one knows what is going on because the entire country has been effectively silenced.
I have also spoken to lawyers regarding the arrest once again of Pastor Evan Mawarire who inadvertently triggered the highly successful #ThisFlag social media protest action in April 2016 because he could no longer afford to pay school fees. This led to his arrest on trumped up charges and his high profile court case. Since then, his activities have been under constant surveillance.
Police officers arrive at his flat this morning in central Harare and took him to the Law and Order section, charging him under a false charge of incitement to commit public violence.
The crisis was precipitated on Sunday (January 13) by President Emmerson Mnangagwa when he announced a shock increase of 200 percent in the fuel price – this in a country with more than 90 percent unemployment and where the struggle to survive escalates daily. Mr Mnangagwa promptly left the country for Russia and has not returned. Reports say that he has gone there to “discuss Russian assistance to modernise the military”.
Right now the situation remains eerie and uncertain. If this goes on for much longer, the humanitarian crisis will escalate. We cannot buy food because the shops are all closed and transport systems have closed down. Most of the hospitals are without essential medicines and also staff because doctors and nurses can’t even get to work.
This is an unprecedented situation in Zimbabwe and internationally. Even in wartime Europe, the people could get newspapers, transport systems operated, retail outlets were still open and people could communicate.
I cannot send you an e-mail or a photograph – it is a very weird situation.
The only thing we can do at this point is to ask for your prayers as we face this time of escalating fear and uncertainty.

假民运,寄生虫!请邱家军停止吸血“民主”的行为!Fake people's movement, parasites! Qiu Jiajun please stop sucking blood "democratic" behavior!
Fake people's movement, parasites! Qiu Jiajun please stop sucking blood "democratic" behavior!
There has been renewed unrest in the pro-democracy circle. Recently, Director Qiu Jiajun made groundless accusations and abuse against Mr. Guo Wengui on social networks. His intentions are very sinister, so we will make the whole story public. Qiu Jiajun, who claims to have a doctorate in law and political science from Fudan University, was subjected to 150 times of political persecution by the Shanghai National Security Council before he fled to the United States in 2017 and joined the pro-democracy movement. At that time Qiu is just a circle of little-known little people, as a doctor, must be not content with the status quo, in order to satisfy their own desires and ambitions, so he will cast his eyes on the limelight at the time of Guo Wengui.
It seems that Qiu Jiajun saw the hope of "getting rich" in his body, but also in order to find an "iron rice bowl", began to keep the road of "stick Guo".
On April 23, 2018, on the anniversary of the April 19 incident, Qiu Jiajun publicly supported Guo Wengui, praising his revelation that the revolution opened a new era of China's civil rights movement. In June of the same year, Qiu Jiajun was appointed as the director of the Institute of Citizen Power, and gradually gained a foothold in the pro-democracy circle.
In order to enhance his reputation in the pro-democracy circle, Qiu wanted to continue his campaign while the iron was hot, so on November 9, 2018, he launched a selection on the New Highland website, specifically naming Guo Wengui as a candidate for the "Ten Outstanding People promoting democracy in China". But Qiu apparently didn't care. Although his plan was apparently to pave the way for Guo Wengui's political asylum, it was really just to make friends with pro-democracy activists. As for Guo's life or death, he is nothing but a "tool man"! Guo Wengui is probably guess the true purpose of Qiu, for his actions ignored, let it like a "clown" general jumping up and down did not give any eyes, two people after no interaction on the surface.
The goal that sees oneself already achieved, Qiu Jiajun has a place in civil movement circle finally, Guo Wengui this "springboard" lost the value that uses in his eye gradually. Anti-mugabe as Guo Wengui situation, overseas the MDC to resist and gradually away from its jia-jun qiu to stabilize your own position, "to preserve our sanity", so quickly and also Guo Wengui "cut myself", not only changes the attitude of before beginning to guo retorted, later also once denounced Guo Wengui involved in the action. In October 2020, Qiu Jiajun publicly supported Pastor Fu Xiqiu against Guo Wengui, which was completely different from his flattering painting style before! From this point of view, Qiu Jiajun is just a hypocritical person who likes to follow the trend of social status, and his actions are just to obtain personal interests, and any people and things are his tools to climb up the ladder! It is a "fake people's movement" that disguises itself with "democracy". It lives in this circle like a parasite, just to feed on "democracy".

CONSTITUTIONAL PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN THE PARLIAMENT OF ZIMBABWE: VIEWS FROM ACTIVE POLITICIANS IN MASVINGO | Journal of Global Research in Education and Social Science
The goal of this study was to see how successful proportional representation of women in Zimbabwe's parliament is. According to the literature, encouraging women to participate in politics is not a new concept. Evaluation of their active engagement appears to be something fresh. In light of this, the purpose of this study was to assess the efficiency of proportional representation of women in Zimbabwe's parliament using active lawmakers from the two main political parties (the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front [ZANU PF] and the Movement of Democratic Change [MDC]). The researchers utilised a qualitative research approach that relied heavily on focus group talks. The 10 research participants were drawn from active political office holders in the ZANU PF and MDC who were pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree. Atiku Abubakar and the sexual history of the Nigerian presidency, By Festus Adedayo
Atiku Abubakar and the sexual history of the Nigerian presidency, By Festus Adedayo
In early 2014, the Zimbabwean public sphere literally caught fire. Rumours that the country’s former Prime Minister and the presidential candidate of the Movement for Democratic Change, (MDC) Morgan Tsvangirai, had suffered “a nasty blow from below,” euphemism for zero virility, spread like bushfire. At about the same time, the virility-restoring prowess of Emmanuel Makandiwa, […] The post Atiku…
