Jan Wyck - A Cavalry Battle Scene -
oil on canvas, Height: 40 cm (15.7 in); Width: 56 cm (22 in)
Historically, cavalry (from the French word cavalerie, itself derived from "cheval" meaning "horse") are soldiers or warriors who fight mounted on horseback. Cavalry were the most mobile of the combat arms, operating as light cavalry in the roles of reconnaissance, screening, and skirmishing in many armies, or as heavy cavalry for decisive shock attacks in other armies. An individual soldier in the cavalry is known by a number of designations depending on era and tactics, such as cavalryman, horseman, trooper, cataphract, knight, hussar, uhlan, mamluk, cuirassier, lancer, dragoon, or horse archer. The designation of cavalry was not usually given to any military forces that used other animals for mounts, such as camels or elephants. Infantry who moved on horseback, but dismounted to fight on foot, were known in the early 17th to the early 18th century as dragoons, a class of mounted infantry which in most armies later evolved into standard cavalry while retaining their historic designation.
Cavalry had the advantage of improved mobility, and a soldier fighting from horseback also had the advantages of greater height, speed, and inertial mass over an opponent on foot. Another element of horse mounted warfare is the psychological impact a mounted soldier can inflict on an opponent.
The speed, mobility, and shock value of cavalry was greatly appreciated and exploited in armed forces in the Ancient and Middle Ages; some forces were mostly cavalry, particularly in nomadic societies of Asia, notably the Huns of Attila and the later Mongol armies. In Europe, cavalry became increasingly armoured (heavy), and eventually evolving into the mounted knights of the medieval period. During the 17th century, cavalry in Europe discarded most of its armor, which was ineffective against the muskets and cannons that were coming into common use, and by the mid-18th century armor had mainly fallen into obsolescence, although some regiments retained a small thickened cuirass that offered protection against lances, sabres, and bayonets; including some protection against shot from a distance.
In the interwar period, while some cavalry still served during World War II (notably in the Red Army, the Mongolian People's Army, the Royal Italian Army, the Romanian Army, the Polish Land Forces, and light reconnaissance units within the Waffen SS) many cavalry units were converted into motorized infantry and mechanized infantry units, or reformed as tank troops. The cavalry tank or cruiser tank was one designed with a speed and purpose beyond that of infantry tanks and would subsequently develop into the main battle tank.
Most cavalry units that are horse-mounted in modern armies serve in purely ceremonial roles, or as mounted infantry in difficult terrain such as mountains or heavily forested areas. Modern usage of the term generally refers to units performing the role of reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA).
Jan Wyck (also Jan Wiyck or Jan Wick) (29 October 1645 – 17 May 1702) was a Dutch baroque painter, best known for his works on military subjects. There are still over 150 of his works known to be in existence.

CE NP Damage Calcs
Keep in mind this is for one Servant, but it provides a decent spread that illustrates many ideas at once
This was done with a Level 60 Sasaki with no Golden Fous (+1000 ATK), NP5 with his NP Strengthen. This notably is ONLY NP damage, and many CEs can be more useful than the numbers imply. For example, Imaginary Around is largely better than Royal Icing. This is a good list for illustrating the following:
1) Strength of ATK bonuses. Almost every single high damage CE gives only ATK, with a couple of exceptions (Versus, GUDAGUDA Poster Girl, and Dumplings Over Flowers comes to mind)
2) Multiplicative versus Additive buffs. Any CE that gives a 12% Quick buff is equivalent to a CE that gives a 10% NP damage / Atk up / power mod with the same ATK. Dumplings over Flowers is equivalent to The Infant of Atlus. Imaginary Around does the same damage as Royal Icing (30% Quick vs 25% NP damage)
3) Potential for extremely high damage Sasaki set-ups
I’m not sure how much I’m feeling up to doing this for everyone, because that’s a ton of edge cases (someone should code a tool for this) but it works well enough to paint general guidelines. The only thing not present is Overcharge CEs because Sasaki’s doesn’t boost his NP damage.

If we did not invest as heavily into tanks and armored trucks for WW2 do you think that armored cavalry would still be a thing on the battlefield. If so how would you think they would work now'a'days?
I think this ask is based on a false premise. Armored cavalry did not disappear with the advent of tanks and cars, it was already a rare sight after the Franco-Prussian war when the main infantry weapon was already able to defeat a cuirassier’s breastplate at basically any realistic combat range. You’ll never be able to pile enough protection on a horse and its rider to make them impervious to the kind of firepower such a big target would attract. The reason why cavalry was still relevant after the concept of heavy cavalry itself was mobility and logistics, but that ceases to be a factor when engines can power larger and heavier vehicles at the same speed and your entire logistics is motorized with the economy to back it up.If we lived in an alternate reality where the combustion engine didn’t exist, then maybe we’d still use hussars at least… but armored cavalry had not been relevant for half a century before that.

Get Your Motor Running with New Saber Alter Figure
Saber Alter is already pretty awesome... but put her on her motorcycle and she's even cooler. Good Smile Company knows this, and they're releasing a figure to prove it.
Altria appears as she did in the PV for "Epic of Remnant: Shinjuku Singularity," in a cool modern outfit. She's aboard her modded Yamaha V-Max, Cuirassier Noir, and has her sword at the ready.
The 1/8 scale figure stands 270mm tall, from the ground to the tip of Excalibur Morgan, and comes with a stand replicating the torn-up streets of Shinjuku in the game's story.
Figures are available for preorder on Good Smile now for 19,800 yen, and are expect to ship in August 2019.
