My favourite comic book characters
Comics have always been an important part of my life, they’ve been an escape from the realworld and they’ve taken me through many journeys, I would do a favourite comic storyline post but I’m not ready to fully do that, so for now, I’ll be talking about my favourite characters from both Dc and the Marvel Universe.
Wonder Woman
I know this is incredibly cliché but I just can’t get enough of her, I met the character watching the Justice League animated series in Cartoon Network and I sometimes watched the 70′s series with Lynda Carter in Youtube. The first comic I ever read of her was Spirit of Truth by Paul Dini and Alex Ross, then I went on to read her Rebirth comics, which updated her character and strengthenher greek roots. I love Diana because of how her gender and sexuality (she’s bi) never have ever affected her charecter, they never made her a stereotype or had poor personality traits, she’s just a strong character with a sword and shield who happens to be a woman, and it actually makes a lot of sense that she’s a woman because at the end of the day, women are much wiser and mentally stronger.
Diana, princess of Themyscira (it sounds cool when she says it lol) was the result of an affair between Zeus (ew) and Hippolyta, leader of the Amazons, she’s had many great fights with figures of Greek mythology, she’s went to Hell, fought Zeus, Dragons, Medusa, etc. She lived along with the rest of the Amazons til Steve Trevor crashed on a plane at the Island during World War 2 (it was changed to the first WW on the movies) and the rest is history.
I can’t wait for WW1984, Gal Gadot plays the hell out of this character, I don’t think anyone else could’ve played her to be honest.

Storm
I met Ororo on the X-Men original trilogy, she was played by Halle Berry and I originally never liked her, it was until I watched the animated series, the 90s series to be specific, that I fell in love with her character, she’s never had the chance to go solo and have great comics by her own ( I only liked the Storm comics because of her) but I think that’s because she works much better as a team leader. She’s also the Queen of Wakanda so at the end of the day she’s better as the lead character on a team movie- comic. There’s this really iconic comic run that speaks on slavery and of course, as an african, Ororo is the main character, you should really check it out, it’s old but it has aged well (Uncanny X-men, Issue #235) Many say (including me) that she’s one of the most powerful X-Men characters, since she can control weather, break the rules of science and use witchcraft, she can pretty much manipulate everything that’s affected by temperature.
Born in New York as the child of a Kenyan princess and an African American scientist, they move to Egypt when she’s 5, a couple of years later both of her parents die on a flight accident and she gets trapped between all the rubble left from her home, developing Claustrophobia, she then becomes a thieve and goes to her mother’s homeland where she becomes a spiritual leader and the queen of the weather. Once Xavier localizes her they meet and he convinces her to help him save the original X-Men team, and well, the rest is History. She also had a relationship with T’Challa when they were both exploring Africa during their teenagehood, years later they get married (one of the most important events on the Marvel Universe).
She’s never been done justice in the movies, she’s meant to be a darksin african woman with strong features and they’ve always went with the hot lightskin african american, I feel like Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum) could play her perfectly.

Black Panther
T’Challa has become an icon of our times due the booming success of Black Panther, and very much deserved, I’ve always loved this character and the insanely underrated storylines that have been written with him. I first met him on the Ultimate Avengers animated movie, I strated reading his comics, even if they were hard to find, or any comic where he appeared. I just really liked the concept of a king as a military/presidential figure, and the whole concept of Wakanda has always appealed to me, I like to think that’s how America would’ve been if Europeans weren’t so nosy. My favourite comic of him is probably the Wakanda vs Atlantis war, not only is Namor (the Aquaman of Marvel) a really cool character, but seeing T’Challa at the top of his game makes everything top notch. He also married Ororo so he literally won at life.
Chadwick Boseman is an amazing actor, and although Denzel Washington could’ve bodied that role, I can’t no longer think of anyone who could play him right now, he’s perfect.
There’s also this great comic where Shuri (his sister) takes her brother’s mantle and she definitely lives up to the title. I really hope that storyline makes it’s way to the MCU.
