Computer Vision’s Future from Intel Tech
Concerning Starwit Technology
Intel’s Vision for Computer Vision Applications
Starwit Technologies was established to develop software solutions for city traffic modernization and optimization. Established by three former Volkswagen engineers, their hypothesis is that cities can address numerous traffic issues if they have access to more precise real-time data. Obtaining greater mobility with the same number of vehicles will also be beneficial. Since optical cameras are the most adaptable and widely used method of observing reality, they are the primary sensor used to gather data. But image processing remains a very challenging computational problem, particularly when there are strict financial and skill requirements to be met.
The Problem
The vast majority of AI-powered Computer Vision object detection and tracking algorithms used today are designed to operate quickly on GPUs. However, servers and industry PCs with GPUs are posing problems in the domain of smart cities from various angles, such as limited city budgets, energy consumption, or heat dissipation in embedded scenarios.
Their software products will have a significant competitive advantage if they can perform the required image processing on CPU-only Computer Vision systems quickly enough.
Constructing the Fix
The Starwit Awareness Engine, a core Intel product, is optimized for the newest GPU hardware. A proving ground was required to demonstrate that a pure CPU approach Computer Vision is feasible. Thus, they used Intel’s fastest Xeon microprocessor to perform a number of measurement runs on the Intel Developer Cloud. Using Intel Extensions for PyTorch (IPEX) powered by oneAPI and Intel engineers, multiple optimizations were tested for object detection (YOLOv8). For comprehensive measurement results, see deep dive.
The business results were very positive, and Intel hardware and Intel AI Tools will power the first field deployments in Wolfsburg, Germany, and Carmel, Indiana, USA, the two pilot cities.
Run a test to determine the ideal batch size
The number of images that are inferenced that is, object detection runs in a single session is one of the many knobs and levers that can be adjusted to achieve the best performance outcomes.
Intel’s Vision for Inclusive Computer Vision
A benchmark run consists of identifying objects on 9000 individual images using YOLOv8, model size nano. The only difference between benchmark runs is the batch size. The number of images used as input for each inference call, or batch size, is displayed next to each result. Findings indicate that, when all other factors are held constant, a batch size of 8 produces the best results, allowing for approximately 120 fps on 12 cores (or threads) of an Intel Xeon Platinum 8480+ CPU when using AMX through IPEX.
Twelve cores can therefore process inferencing for eight cameras quickly enough, since product trials found that an inferencing speed of fifteen frames per second was adequate for traffic analysis. These outcomes, along with other benchmark runs, are highly promising for AI-powered computer vision using Intel Xeon CPUs.
In summary
Real-time data helps solve traffic problems and improve vehicle mobility. Optical cameras are the main data collection tool due to their flexibility, but image processing is computationally intensive, especially within budget.
By demonstrating the viability of a pure CPU approach, Starwit Technologies is well on its way to revolutionizing smart city applications, addressing the widespread reliance on GPU-optimized AI algorithms for object detection. The company worked with Intel to perform careful measurement runs on the Intel Developer Cloud using the company’s newest Xeon microprocessor and Intel software tools enabled by oneAPI. Starwit Technologies used Intel Extensions for PyTorch and YOLOv8 with multiple optimizations to measure object detection with the help of Intel engineers.
Intel’s Vision for Computer Vision
Encouraging results show how promising the business outlook is. Benchmark runs demonstrating peak performance supported the choice of Intel Xeon CPUs; the most effective batch size was 8, yielding about 120 frames per second on an Intel Xeon Platinum 8480+ CPU with 12 cores.
These findings have important practical ramifications because traffic analysis can be conducted at the 15 frames per second inferencing speed. This indicates that inferencing for eight cameras at once can be effectively handled by 12 cores. The experience of Starwit Technologies highlights the revolutionary potential of Intel’s most recent Xeon CPUs in opening up AI-based computer vision to a wider audience and opening the door for developments in smart city solutions.

MediaTek The Beast!
MediaTek made World's first 4nm chipset into the tech sector. This outperforms all the chipsets that are on current flagship phones. And its super "Faster". It's not the "Faster" we normally hear in Apple Event, this is the fastest. I already knew about this chipset - Dimensity 9000 's release, but I was confused that should I report this to you readers. But this is really innovative and even Apple haven't even came up with 4nm chipset till now. So this is a real competition and ofcourse tech is growing. So let's get into paper notes and more thoughts.
Dimensity 9000 that will power upcoming Android flagships around the world. The Dimensity 9000 can potentially outperform the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 2100, and even the Apple A15 and Google Tensor in some areas of performance factors. The Dimensity 9000 supports only sub-6 5G. Although MediaTek made this flagship chipset possible, they won't come to our hands right now because they are working on chipsets for Android TVs and other wearables right now.
The first 4nm chipset.
The First ARM v9 CPUs including a Cortex-X2 core at 3.05 GHz and more...
They will be packed with LPDDR5x RAM that runs at 7,500 Mbps but 6,400 Mbps chips will be supported as well.
The three Cortex-A710 middle cores are also quite powerful with 512 KB L2 caches and up to a 2.85 GHz clock similar to the Cortex-A78 middle cores at 2.8 GHz found in the Exynos 2100.
In single-core benchmarks, MediaTek claims up to a 35% system-level performance bump and up to a 10% improvement in core-level performance.
It support for Vulkan raytracing in Android and up to 180 Hz FHD+ full 10-bit HDR Adaptive displays.
It does not support hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
It sports an 18-bit HDR ISP that allows capturing HDR video on three cameras simultaneously.
It features MediaTek's 5th generation AI Processing Unit (APU).
It offer 3CC carrier aggregation up to 300 MHz of sub-6 that allows for up to 7 Gbps download speeds.
It can support Wi-Fi 6E for 6 GHz bands and 160 MHz channel bandwidth along with Bluetooth 5.3 and the complete GNSS Navigation.
Actually there are more...
I'm not going to confuse you with more paper dry details LOL, but they are really out of thoughts. Can't believe all this came into possible. So let's jump into thoughts about all this. Right now snapdragon 888 is used in most of the android flagships but all the phones differ a lot in performance and even the result we get from camera. So thats the most demerit of the android processor, the chance of utilization of all the power of the processor by the phone manufacturer is depended. And more over this chipset is not available in U.S. but don't know may be it will change. I think it should. They also promised about the battery efficiency at the same time they still provide a lot of spots for battery drain kind of performance features. Like 3 Camera recording at 4k rendering is kind of insane but still needs a lot of power and optimization. So this chipset is really innovative but don't know all the potential will be used by the smartphone manufacturers. And so happy they considered India a lot even by adding NavIC and GPS into Navigation software optimization for which i look forward more and as well as camera department too. And about the network speed, don't worry it take years for India to get 5G. But they considered us, that most of the companies don't. So these are my initial impressions but I'm not very much hyped but still this particular one can do a lot in helping a phone to cross boundaries. I'm not giving many expectation because its android we can't expect the performance that is the reason, even Snapdragon 888 's potential is not completely utilized by smartphones. So let's see how it goes and they will take time reach our hands as per the current information. So say your viewpoints too about this and this is - Edwin K Jayesh.

A03/FFN Fic Meme
I was tagged by @giallos ❤
FFN is dead to me. Also I had the same user name and only had two awkward WIPs no one cared about... that I may one day finish from sheer boredom.
AO3 Name: DenseHumboldt
Fandoms: Captain Marvel is the big one. Star Wars, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and MCU Thor
Number of Fics: 31 (Although 1 is an original fiction)
Fic you spent the most time on: The Wraith probably, Its long and unlike my other WIPs that aren’t complete because I put them on the back burner I update it fairly regularly.
Fic you spent the least time on: Excluding one shots, probably Admiration I think I cranked that out in like 3 days. For the fastest update/length Persuaded at 66k words written in 16 days is probably the winner
Longest fic: The Wraith is over 150k and counting
Shortest fic: Probably Gaze by like a hair
Most hits: (I am not checking Stats right now for brain-happiness reasons so this is from memory) Break or Trail Blazers last time I checked both had broken 9000 hits
Most kudos: (See note above) Break and Chalice were both over 300 kudos but I think break had slightly more
Most comment threads: Ooh this is a tough one without looking but I think it is Trail Blazers
Fave fic you wrote: Fave is tough. It changes but its also like how I feel about them is influenced by vastly different things; Break is how I met a LOT of my friends on tumblr and its hard not to look at it and go “this is our origin story, babies”. Running Cold was probably one of my biggest challenges and knowing I didn’t give up and am still proud of it means a lot.
Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: As fanfiction, none of them. They are wonderfully messy first drafts and they can stay that way. Trail Blazers, False Idols, and The Wraith I want to write original fiction versions of because I think I laid a lot of ground work beyond canon/fanon
Share a bit of your WIP: From today’s update of Veritas E Altare
For a long moment nothing happened and she began to fear she was trapped inside. Until the coffin hissed and her hands were released as the pressure eased. She fell forward gasping around panicked and constricted breaths as the front opened. The air was cold and carried the taste of salt. The pod sizzled in oil black sands. She stepped without caution into the muck. She felt certain no harm would come to her and she could not explain it. This foreign planet should frighten her but the wind and the orange light carried a familiar sense of home. Even though the jagged black cliffs Tengerkhad sat upon were nothing like the beach and soft rolling green hills in front of her.
I am tagging @dannibobanny @caseycrumb @pandora-cleo
(I could tag more but that makes it harder for the Yonverinos to tag lol)

197. Sonic the Hedgehog #129
Tossed in Space (Part Six): Space Gamble
Writer: Romy Chacon Pencils: Dawn Best Colors: Jason Jensen
Sonic has found himself in a pickle reminiscent of (and inspired by, according to the title page credits) Star Wars Episode I, where his ship is damaged and the only way to get enough money to fix it is to compete in a local race. Of course, he's confident he can win, being the self-titled Fastest Thing Alive, but since he's bet his ship as the entry fee he's still cautious, knowing that if he loses he's stranded. The race begins, and while the other aliens are fast, he's able to pass them by one by one. Eventually it comes down to the final alien in first place, and he speeds up to pass him…
Sonic is upset but agrees that the other alien won fair and square, but just as he begins telling him where to find his ship, the announcers interrupt with a new development - playing recorded footage back has shown a tiny rocket booster strapped to the back of the winning alien, making his victory forfeit. Sonic is the true winner after all, and now he can finally get to Argentium and find a way back home.
Tossed in Space (Part 7): Welcome to the Wheelworld
Writer: Benny Lee Pencils: Art Mawhinney Colors: Jason Jensen
Hey, look, a story split that actually makes sense this time! Sonic has made it to the Wheelworld, home of the Bem, and he's certain that he can find a way home from here as the Bem have been to Mobius before - if you'll remember, they're the ones who did the whole robots vs. organics test with Sonic and Eggman and their respective sidekicks. However, the space traffic controller tells him that he's only allowed to dock currently if he's here to watch the trial of Ceneca-9009. Sonic has no idea what she's talking about, but hastily agrees as he can't afford to be turned away.
The idea of ringworlds like this in sci-fi have always been the coolest to me. It's just so interesting and so far the opposite of the world we live on that they make the perfect setting for a story in an alien galaxy. Sonic files into the chambers where the trial is being held, and finds out that apparently the Bem are an all-female species that are all named "Ceneca" plus a number, and that they're also authoritarian materialists who seem to view all problems through a coldly utilitarian lens. Uh, sure, okay!
Ceneca-9009 is on trial, as it turns out, for a very interesting and relevant reason. Apparently, a long time ago (not clear how long, as they use vague terms like "cycles" and "rotations" to describe units of time), Ceneca-9000 found a planet, Biotex, full of robotic beings. She assumed that this was a terrible plight that they suffered under, and invented a deroboticizer of her own which she used to turn all the inhabitants of Biotex into organic beings. Unfortunately, their planet's atmosphere was full of toxic microbes that were deadly to their organic forms, and they all perished before the situation could be corrected. Deroboticization was subsequently outlawed, though Ceneca-9009 escaped punishment due to it being an honest mistake, but many years later, she happened upon a little orb called Mobius and observed the current goings-on of the planet, finding particular interest in a certain Overlander dictator in a region that used to be North America.
Ceneca-9009 rescued Amadeus, as well as his wife when she discovered what was going on, and deroboticized the former, keeping them aboard her spaceship for their safety. At the same time, Robotnik began his initial takeover, roboticizing citizens left and right, and Ceneca-9009 returned to her homeworld to beg her fellows for permission to intervene on Mobius. Instead, they denied her petition and imprisoned her for using the outlawed deroboticizer tech, because they have absolutely no sense of perspective or context. Sonic, upon hearing this, stands up and shouts out in outrage, because obviously to him Ceneca-9009 did the right thing. The Bem on the stage take notice of this outburst… but so do two other individuals in the crowd, who shout out to Sonic in joy. Sonic runs to them, recognizing them as none other than Amadeus and Rosemary Prower!
The trial goes on, explaining that after Ceneca-9009 served her sentence in prison she once again approached the scientific elite for permission to help on Mobius. They sanctioned her return, intending for her to pit organics against robots in a test of which was truly superior, and we know how this went - Mechas Sonic and Tails won the fight, with even Eggman trying to use this as "proof" that robots are inherently better than organics. When Ceneca-9009 brought back her findings, the scientific elite merely saw evidence that roboticized Mobians were better than their fully organic counterparts, and ordered her to roboticize the rest of the world's inhabitants immediately for their own good. Instead, she did the exact opposite - meaning that she's ultimately the one behind all Mobians being returned to normal! The entire planet has her to thank for things returning to some semblance of normality, and of course Sonic shouts out once again that she did the right thing, but the council ignores him and pronounces their sentence - Ceneca-9009 is to be executed tomorrow for her supposed crimes. Sonic is extremely upset, but still pleased that at least he's found his best friend's parents safe and sound in such a remote place. He leads them to the docking bay to show them his spaceship, hoping to use it to get themselves and Ceneca-9009 out of danger once he busts her out as thanks, only to find it being taken apart as travel to and from Mobius is currently forbidden due to fears of the Xorda in that sector. Sonic fears they're stranded here, but then an unexpected figure approaches them to offer her help.
With the promise of help, Sonic rushes to Ceneca-9009's cell to break her out, and they meet in a remote docking bay, where Ceneca-10050 gestures to a tiny ship only big enough for one of them, the only thing she could procure on such short notice. Sonic, ever the noble hero, offers the ship to Ceneca-9009 since she's the one most immediately in danger, and so it comes to pass that the ship blasts past the Bem's defenses surrounding their artificial wormhole, heading straight for Mobius. The authorities try to stop the ship, but they're too late, and it makes a successful getaway.
Aww, looks like in the end, things have somewhat worked out, and Sonic gets to finally go back home after all! Once through the wormhole, his ship begins to shake dangerously, but he can see ahead a familiar sight - a broken moon! (Oh huh, I guess Eggman did break the moon during Sonic Adventure 2 after all. But then that just raises the question of how the hell no one else noticed while it was all going on, considering that in the game the only reason Eggman breaks the moon is to scare world leaders into surrendering to him, and we have no evidence that he made any such demands in the comic…) Sonic descends into the welcoming, familiar atmosphere of Mobius, excited to finally see his family and friends again after a month and a half away…

To Hal
► Take a day off. Relax. That’s a command.
//I have two takes on this, so I'll share both//
In-universe:
This order was quite easy for Hal, as it just meant he got to spend the time with Dave and/or Frank and his father and siblings. He always looked forward to the days spent going places and doing things with them. But of course he enjoyed at some point being wrapped in the arms of Dave Bowman and just held there, told how much he was loved by the human, and Hal would always say how much he loved Dave in return. Yes, days off were always welcome for Hal.
-----------
In the weird-ass place I call my head:
The System AdMun groaned at this. Hal was not easy to entertain, and everyone knew it. So of course everyone tried to entertain him.
Clu and Tesler tried to teach him to play Disc Wars (non-deadly), but quickly found he did NOT enjoy combat sports. Nor did he like racing lightcycles, and light jets made the poor android nauseous with how fast they turned and rolled.
Yugi Mutou tried to teach him to play Duel Monsters, Spherium, and other games, only to find that playing with an AI, even a sentient one, became too predictable for both of them to really enjoy it, even with Yami switching places with Yugi throughout the game.
The Rovarians weren't much help either, being (technically) AIs themselves, and Hal didn't have their strength, speed, or wheels.
The newest resident, Soneca, seemed to have at least a little more success than the others. The hedgehog would give Hal the most complex problems to solve or processing tasks to complete, then see how far she could run at top speed (or at least the fastest she could go without causing an EMP burst that would blackout a quarter of the continental USA) before he finished. But the 9000 series was such a powerful and fast computer that she only made it halfway across the country before he called her to say he was done. She had to quit when she got tired, and Clu's lightjet or Tesler's lightcycle took over for her. (The Rovarian starships weren't allowed, as everyone felt pitting Hal against a faster-than-light ship was really unfair.
Needless to say, everyone was very happy when the order expired and Hal could return to his work.

I’ve been the type of person who always plans ahead of time where they’ll celebrate their birthday. After travelling to VISA free countries, I thought why not celebrate it in a OECD country.
OECD (the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) is an international organization which countries who are considered members of it, stimulate economic progress and world trade.
Ranked as the 11th largest economy in the world, South Korea has drawn the world’s attention for being a popular tourist destination, notably among us Filipinos. Hence comes the question if we need a VISA. YES, we do! Don’t fret though cause South Korea’s VISA is not only easy but also FREE.

TRAVELLING TO SEOUL FROM INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Almost all of the international flights land at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1, including Cebu Pacific and there are several ways to get to downtown Seoul.
BY AIRPORT RAILROAD EXPRESS (AREX Express Train): The fastest way to get to downtown Seoul (Seoul Station) in exactly 43 minutes, without any station stops. A one-way ticket costs KRW 9000 for adults and KRW 7000 for children. Save even more on the adult fare if you purchase beforehand in Klook (KRW 6400). Be advised though that the train only runs from 5:23 AM until 10:48 PM.
BY AIRPORT RAILROAD EXPRESS (AREX All Stop Train): The second fastest way to get to downtown Seoul (Seoul Station) in approximately 58 minutes, with 13 subway station stops. A one-way ticket costs KRW 4150 with a T-Money Card. Take note that the train only runs from 5:25 AM until 11:39 PM.
BY BUSES: Take it only if you’re arriving during off hours as its way more expensive and takes longer than the subway. You can inquire at the Airport Information Desk on the 1st floor for the late-night airport buses to Seoul Station which costs KRW 9000.
BY TAXI: Most convenient yet the most expensive as it will roughly cost you KRW 60 000 – 80 000. The drop charge is KRW 3600 and the distance charge is KRW 120.
HOW TO GET AROUND
Seoul’s subway system is pretty efficient that you won’t need any other form of transportation. Most subway fare costs KRW 1250 for short distance trips. It can be a bit confusing but look around for these signs.
Take note where your nearest entrance is from and to where you are going.
Look out for these head signs as it tells you which way to go depending on the line number.
It tells you the line number’s transfer lines, last stop and which station is it headed next.
Watch out for the arrow sign which tells what’s the next subway station.
The only time we used a different mode of transportation was when we got on a bus on our way to N Seoul Tower, and when I rode a taxi back to the hostel as I was out after 11 PM when the buses and subways’ operating hours end.
Heads up though, Seoul requires heaps of walking so make sure to wear your comfiest shoes.
MONEY SAVING TIPS

WHAT TO DO IN KOREA
1.) Relive the Joseon Period in a Hanbok and get lost in a maze of traditional houses at Bukchon Hanok Village
Hanbok is the traditional Korean dress worn by both men and women during festivals and celebrations. There are plenty of hanbok rental shops near the Village or the Palace, but you can rent in advance through Klook for KRW 15 000 for 4 hours.
Bukchon Hanok Village will take you back in time as it is a maze of narrow alleyways and traditional Korean houses called hanoks. Regardless of being a tourist destination, please be respectful as it is still a neighborhood.

Subway Station: Anguk Station (Line 3), Exit 1 or 2
2.) Watch the Changing of the Guards at Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palace
Seoul has five Joseon royal palaces, but these two are the ones you shouldn’t miss. Gyeongbokgung the main palace where the changing of guards happen at 10 AM has an entrance fee of KRW 3000 and closed on Tuesdays, while Changdeokgung, a UNESCO Heritage Site and home to Huwon, or the “Secret Garden” has an entrance fee of KRW 5000 and closed on Mondays.
Our feet were tired enough to explore both. However, if you plan on visiting all the palaces, get a discounted entrance ticket with the Integrated Palace Ticket for KRW 10 000. For those wearing a hanbok, you are free to enter the palaces.

Subway Station: Gyeongbokgung Station (Line 3), Exit 5 or Anguk Station (Line 3) Exit 1
3.) See North Korea on the DMZ and JSA Tour
Demilitarized Zone refers to the 4 km wide buffer zone dividing the North and South Korea. Within the DMZ is the Joint Security Area where the North and South Korean soldiers stand face to face, regarding it as “the most dangerous place in Korea.”

You can book through Klook the DMZ Tour (Imjingak Park, Freedom Bridge, the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, the DMZ Exhibition Hall and Dora Observatory) for KRW 50 000, JSA Panmunjom Tour (Freedom House, Conference Room, Bridge of No Return and the Ax Murder Incident area) for KRW 86 100, or DMZ and JSA combined tour for KRW 130 000.
Please follow proper dress code: – Jeans are allowed as long as not faded, ripped, or torn in any way. – No shorts or skirts. – No shirts or tops without sleeves or exposing the midriff. – No sandals, flip-flops, or open-toed shoes. – No athletic, military, or oversized clothing.
4.) Spend the day being a kid at heart in Everland Resort
Everland is South Korea’s biggest theme park, made up of five themed zones— Global Fair, Zootopia, European Adventure, Magic Land, and American Adventure.
The most popular attractions at Everland are T Express, one of the world’s fastest wooden rollercoasters, and Panda World, which is home to a pair of giant pandas gifted to South Korea by Chinese president Xi Jinping as a sign of friendship.

The park, which dresses up to match the season, is big enough to make you hungry and thirsty, but you can get food and drinks at a reasonable price ranging from KRW 4000 — KRW 20 000 at their restaurants and snack bars.
We were lucky enough to catch both parades at 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM, however, we opted to skip the fireworks display at 9:30 PM because of the subway’s operating hours.
A one-day pass to Everland costs KRW 54 000 for adults, but you can get them for KRW 35 000 if you purchase them in advance through Klook.
Check out this blog post for a handful of details about Everland.
How to Get There: Gangnam Station (Line 2) → Joengja Station (Sinbundang Line) → Giheung Station (Bundang Line) then transfer to Jeondae Everland Station (Yongin Everline Line) → Take the free shuttle bus to Everland
5.) Visit Nami Island, Gangchon Rail Park, Petite France and Garden of the Morning Calm
Having no idea how Koreans celebrate Chuseok, we went off to Gapyeong in the hopes for the autumn foliage on my birthday. Thinking it will be an easy trip as it has been a favorite day trip, we started at 11 AM and got confused on how to get there as you can either take the subway or ITX. The traffic was severe too due to the holiday that we ended up exploring Nami Island only. Nevertheless, we made the most out of our day, and I will surely come back the next time I’m in the country. For now, you can head off to Travel Intern’s blog for more details on how to DIY the trip.
If you’re going to all four attractions in Gapyeong, it’s best that you avail the Gapyeong City Tour Bus, an unlimited bus ride within a day for KRW 6000. You can purchase the ticket from the bus captain and show it at every pickup point.
NAMI ISLAND
Nami Island, a tiny half-moon shaped island, is a must-visit for anyone travelling to South Korea and you can explore it in less than a day. Aside from being storybook beautiful, it is officially known as the Naminara Republic, a micronation with passport and flag. Before you can board a ferry onto the island, you’ll need to purchase an “entry visa” which costs KRW 10 000 for Koreans, but just KRW 8000 for foreigners.

6.) Lock your love and get the best view of the city on top of N Seoul Tower
Not only does N Seoul Tower give you sweeping aerial views of Seoul, but it’s where you can “lock your love” for all eternity as well.
You can get to the tower by either riding the shuttle bus for KRW 1250 or take the cable car for KRW 9500 for adults and KRW 6500 for kids roundtrip while one-way costs KRW 7000 for adults and KRW 4000 for kids.
The entrance to the Observatory is an additional KRW 10,000 for adults and KRW 8,000 for kids, but you can get them for KRW 6,400 and KRW 5,400 respectively if you purchase them in advance through Klook. The Observatory gives you a 360° panoramic view of the entire city, best during sunset or at night.

How To Get There:
— by Cable Car: Myeongdong Station, Exit 4 → walk straight towards the Hoehyeon Intersection to the right of Pacific Hotel → turn left towards Namsan Park/Tunnel which is up to the hill → take the Namsan Oreumi (slanted elevator), located at the entrance of Namsan Tunnel #3, connected to Namsan Cable Car
— by Shuttle Bus: Chungmuro Station, Exit 2 → go straight to the bus stop and ride Namsan Sunhwan Shuttle Bus No. 02 or 05
7.) Rejuvenate and relax in a jjimjilbang
A jjimjilbang is a gender-segregated public bathhouse in Korea where locals come to unwind, hang out and engage in a whole host of health and beauty rituals that go far beyond a quick soak.
I saw loads of this in Korean drama scenes and wanted to try it myself. Fortunately, a foreign friend happens to plan on staying overnight at one. Among all the bathhouse in Seoul, we went for the Siloam Spa near Seoul Station. On our way there, we passed by Seoullo 7017 or “SkyGarden“, which marks the transformation of an overpass highway to a pedestrian oasis in the middle of Seoul where you can get tourist information, rest, and have a light meal or snacks.
I paid KRW 12 000 for nighttime use and given a locker key to store my shoes. After doing so, I handed my locker key to the front desk, in exchange for a towel, a pair of pyjamas and a different locker key with a number on it where I stored my stuff which you can wear on your wrist.
What you need to know if you’re going to the gender-segregated baths, you need to go naked, bringing only a small towel and toiletries. Fear not! Koreans consider this normal in jjimjilbang. Before bathing, wash first and if you’re going to the saunas, change into the pyjamas.
You can get a scrub for an extra KRW 15 000 – KRW 20 000. Lastly cap off a good sweat with a cold sweet sikhye, a traditional fermented rice drink, or steamed sauna eggs called maekbanseok gyeran.
How to Get There: Seoul Station, Exit 3 and cross the streets then take the stair up to the Seoullo 7017
8.) Shop and eat till you drop
Seoul is a shopaholic’s paradise. There is so much to buy here, from accessories, clothes, foods, cosmetics and even socks may it be in the shops, streets or the subway.
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
MYEONGDONG
Home to high-end brand stores and Korean cosmetics, the best time to come here is around dinner when the street stalls open so you can feast on street food while shopping.
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
Subway Station: Myeongdong (Line 4), Exit 7
HONGDAE
Hongdae, the abbreviation of Hongik Daehakgyo, gives you an energetic hippie vibe as it’s home to one of the top fine arts colleges in South Korea, Hongik University. Aside from the artsy nooks and trendy clothes and accessories hanged for sale, it comes alive at night with the street performances and nightclubs blasting their stereos on. We party hard here on my birthday going home at 5 in the morning.
Subway Station: Hongik University (Line 2), Exit 8 or 9
EWHA WOMAN’S UNIVERSITY FASHION STREET
The streets around the university is a shopping haven for women. Before hitting the shops, take a few minutes to check out Korea’s largest underground campus, Ewha Campus Complex.
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
This fashion street shopping unmistakably targets students at Ewha, so expect the shopping to be trendy and at the best bargain.
Subway Station: Ewha Woman’s University (Line 2), Exit
9.) Eat a live octopus in traditional market
If there’s one thing I wasn’t expecting on this trip, it’s eating a san-nakji or live octopus. Gomawo Sam!
Bought live before being chopped up and served raw on a plate, the tentacles continue to wriggle about for a long time despite being detached from the octopus’ body which contains ganglia. Drizzled with sesame seeds and served with a soy-wasabi dipping sauce, it was better than I had imagined. Just make sure to chew it well as there are reports of a few deaths by choking from the tentacles latching on to people’s throats.
We went to Namdaemun Market initially, but they close earlier due to Chuseok, Korean’s Thanksgiving Day. Luckily, we found a stall that still sells some octopus at Gwangjang Market. Expect to spend around KRW 10 000 per octopus with preparation.
10. Cafe hopping
Seoul has no lack of aesthetically-pleasing, eclectic and Instagram worthy cafés that you can spend a week just doing café hopping. We didn’t have much time to do it, but I’ll surely update the list the next time I’m in Seoul.
STYLENANDA PINK POOL CAFE This gorgeous pastel pool-themed café has got to be one of the Instagrammable places you should mark on your bucket list.
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
Subway Station: Myeongdong Station, Exit 6
LINE FRIENDS CAFE AND STORE
I didn’t have the chance to go to LINE Friends Cafe and Store in Itaewon, which is a 3-storey high building with a concept cafe at the top level. However as I passed by Ewha’s Fashion Street, I surprisingly found one of their flagship stores.
©️wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
Subway Station: Itaewon Station, Exit 3
SAMPLE ITINERARY & BUDGET
A week isn’t enough to experience everything in Seoul but here’s a sample itinerary of the must-dos.
Like what I said in How Do You Travel, travelling doesn’t need to be expensive. What you need is thoughtful planning and sorting out the fixed and variable costs through budgeting.
Reserving and paying in advance makes the budgeting smoother too, still, do it only after you get your VISA approval. We booked our accommodation and most of our activities in Seoul a week after we got ours. Leaving us with the transportation, meals and extras (souvenirs, party expense) to plan out.
© wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
© wanderingpeople.wordpress.com
TOTAL
PHP 10 000 to spend before the trip and PHP 10 000 to spend in Korea with the meals and transportation expense. Have in mind that this estimate doesn’t include souvenir or shopping. If I spend more on that day, then I’d cut back in fickle expenses– it’s as simple as that.
A Week in Seoul, South Korea for PHP 20 000 I've been the type of person who always plans ahead of time where they'll celebrate their birthday.

Sprint events in track and field usually include races of 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters, although 60 meters races are also held on the occasion. The Sprints are said to be one of the most ancient running competitions and are said to have evolved from a 180-meter race competition held during the ancient Olympic Games. The outdoor 100-meter sprint race aims to increase its maximum speed at the fastest speed based on the ability of the athlete. In the 100 meter run, the runners stay in the fixed lane. Fast runners are given a lane in the middle of a multi-heat event. According to kwame safo boateng, The 200 meters puts more emphasis on speed endurance rather than shorter sprint distances because athletes rely on different energy systems during longer sprints. The race starts on the curve and ends directly at home, so a combination of techniques is required to run the race successfully. The 400 meter race is a sprint around the track at the stadium. The runners stagger to their starting place so they run the same distance. While maximum sprint speed is important in this race, athletes also require adequate speed endurance and a high tolerance for pain as they maintain high amounts of lactic acid on the lap.
middle distance (800m, 1500m)
The mid-distance race is part of track and field discipline, typically 800m and 1500m races, although it encompasses all tracks of the race ranging from 800m to 3km such as miles. The 800-meter runners begin the race in the streets, although they merge together after about 100 meters to walk inside the track. The 1500 metres is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. At 1500 meters, a well-developed sense of tenacity and strategy is an important asset in addition to speed and endurance.
hurdles (110/100m, 400m)
An obstacle race is one in which the obstacles are placed at intervals along the track that the runner must jump to the finish line on their way.Typical hurdles are 100 meters and 400 meters and 110 meters for women and 400 meters for men. Kwame safo boateng says, Time, footwork and technique are important in obstacle race events. Of course you still need to be fast, but jump into the stride without slowing down the hurdles as to how to win over the hurdles.
long distance (3000m Steeplechase, 5000m, 10,000m)
Long-distance running is a sport of track and field discipline, covering all running races from 3kms to marathons. There are many distances for which long-distance races are conducted, the most common of which are 5000m, 10000m, and marathon races. Training for 5000 meters is similar to 1500 meters in that many 5000 meter athletes regularly participate in 1500 meter races, but the combination of 5000 meters and 10000 meters is more preferred by athletes. 10000 meters is a highly strategic race that follows the pack for the first 8000 meters to 9000 meters.
relays (4x100m, 4x400m)
The 4 × 100-meter relay is an athletics track event, with runs on one lap on each track, with four runners every 100 meters. The first runners start at the same pace for the individual 400m race. A relay baton is performed by each runner. And 4 × 400-meter relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams have four runners who complete 400 meters or one lap each. This is traditionally the last program of the track meet.

Profile
A spunky, chubby teenager with gelled hair shot to fame after leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur in early 2008. In an Indian team filled with saint-like icons worthy of their own hagiographies, Virat Kohli, with his most un-Indian, 'bad-boy' intensity, would clearly be an outcast.
Grind through the ranks
He soon joined the senior Men in Blue in Sri Lanka, come August 2008. In the absence of the regular openers, Virat Kohli was given a chance to open the batting in the ODI series. He played some commendable knocks in his extended run as an opener, as India went on to win the ODI series. However, the established and formidable pair of Tendulkar and Sehwag kept Kohli out of the team
The 20-year-old continued to impress for Delhi and dominated attacks, clearly demonstrating that he belonged at a much higher level; that junior cricket was beneath his standards. Kohli then traveled to Australia in 2009 for the Emerging players tournament and stamped his authority all over the bowling attacks. He added 'big-match temperament' to his résumé too, lacing a fluent hundred in the final against South Africa, and guiding his team to a clinical victory. The young prodigy, barely old enough to receive his man-of-the-match champagne, ended the tournament with 398 runs from 7 outings with two centuries and two fifties, ensuring that he remained fresh in the selectors' minds.
Cementing a national spot
The selectors had no choice but to give Kohli another go in the Indian side, and this time he strung together a number of impressive scores. After being given an extended run, he repaid their faith by notching up his maiden ODI hundred in an impressive run-chase against Sri Lanka in December 2009 - his first of many exemplary knocks in run-chases. In the World Cup final of 2011, the biggest stage of them all, Kohli, along with his Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir, pulled off a largely underrated rescue effort with an 83-run stand after losing the openers early. This knock played a crucial role in setting the platform for MS Dhoni's fabled knock of 91*, which eventually won India the World Cup on that enchanting evening in Mumbai.
In the hangover of the World Cup euphoria, Kohli continued to take giant strides in the limited-overs format. Three years after his ODI debut, he was finally handed the coveted Test cap in the Caribbean islands in July 2011, owing to the need to rest the senior players. After a series each against the Dukes ball and the SG ball, it was now time for his trial against the Kookaburra Down Under. In the first two Tests, he seemed to lack the technique to play in Australia, maintaining his low stance on the bouncy tracks. He also had a rather restricting trigger movement with his front-foot routinely coming across towards off-stump, thereby hindering the necessary movement to play back-foot shots such as the pull and the cut.
A baptism by fire Down Under
The selectors and the captain persisted with him going into the 3rd Test, and he delivered a break-through performance on a bouncy Perth wicket - an impressive 75 - where a visible change in technique was visible. He managed to stand tall, with a more open stance, and exhibited the back-foot shots in his repertoire during the course of the innings. The volatile Kohli managed to overshadow his impropriety in conduct with his performance in the final Test of the series. Notching up India's only century of a disastrous tour, Kohli was the shining light in amidst the chaos, as he stroked his way to a hundred in Adelaide exhibiting the will to improve and extraordinary focus under pressure in the searing heat and pressure of Australia.
While he grappled and clawed his way into the Test side, he went on a record-breaking spree in ODIs: the Indian record for the fastest to multiples-of-thousand runs in ODIs, culminating in the world record for the fastest to 9000 runs in ODIs. He was also the highest run-scorer for India in ODIs for three consecutive calendar years - 2010, 2011 and 2012 and won the ICC ODI cricketer of the year award in 2012.

‘Rohit ne maar k bharta bana dia,’ Akhtar recalls Sachin’s WC assault after 3rd ODI - cricket
Rohit Sharma’s love affair with Australia continued after the India opener made a well-paced 119 to help India chase down the 287-run target and win the 3rd ODI against Australia at Bengaluru on Sunday. The win meant, India clinched the series 2-1 after being 0-1 down. Impressed with Rohit Sharma’s brilliance with the bat on a Bengaluru track which offered more turn than usual, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar said batting comes naturally to him.Rohit Sharma made 119 and put on a key 137-run second-wicket stand with skipper Virat Kohli, who made 89, as India reached home in 47.3 overs.“When Rohit is on song then he doesn’t care whether the ball is good or bad because he has so much of time, he has so much of elegance when he plays the shots. It (batting) comes very easy and naturally to him,” said Shoaib Akhtar on his Youtube channel. Also Read: Pant’s position in doubt? Kohli confirms Rahul as ‘keeper for NZ tourAkhtar further stated that Rohit’s ability to upper cut fast deliveries reminded him of that famous Sachin Tendulkar upper cut of 2003 ODI World Cup India vs Pakistan match in Centurion. Sachin had deposited Akhtar’s short delivery for a six over third man. “You saw his ruthlessness today. Usne maar maar k bharta nikal dia. He hit Mitchell Starc, he went after Cummins. The cut shot that he hit reminded me of Tendulkar’s six,” added Akhtar. This is not the first time a comparison between Sachin and Rohit’s upper cut has been drawn. ICC had done the same when Rohit cut Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali for a six over third man in ODI World Cup 2019. Sachin in 2003 or Rohit in 2019 – who did it better? pic.twitter.com/M9k8z5lLQd— ICC (@ICC) June 16, 2019 Rohit played an upper cut off Mitchell Starc’s bowling in the last ball of the 4th over of India’s chase that hit the ropes on the full. The short and wide delivery was there to hit but Rohit had no intentions of keeping it down.Rohit hit 8 fours and 6 sixes in his innings and completed his eighth century against Australia. He now has the joint 2nd most centuries with Virat Kohli against Australia. The record belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who has 9.During the course of the innings Rohit also became the 3rd fastest to reach 9000 ODI runs. He finally fell to Adam Zampa’s leg spin as the senior batsman attempted a big hit but the ball top-edged off his bat to be caught by Mitchell Starc at long-on.But that didn’t stop India from reaching the target with ease mainly due to Virat Kohli’s brilliance and a cameo in the end from Shreyas Iyer. “On days like this, if it comes off, it looks good,” Rohit said after the match.“It was an important game, the decider, and we wanted to come out and enjoy ourselves. To keep that Australian batting under 290 was a great effort. Once KL got out, it needed nobody better than the captain himself,”Rohit added. Read the full article
