DT: "It always feels good when there's a husky in the building. Obviously we had Mo last year. She's a great person, great teammate. And Chris this year who hasn't played in two years. She's been rehabbing, been in this building for the last 5 months, day and night, 5 days a week trying to get right. So when she hits the court for the first time in two years, I'm gonna be really proud of her. Knowing that she went to UConn, we went through the same experiences, there is that bond that we'll always have."
Reporter: "You said that Caitlin is gonna go through a learning curve. Some people were critical of you for saying that. But I don't know that it necessarily meant that you're not welcoming to her, right? It seems like you were just saying the reality is she's gonna have a learning curve."
DT: "The new fans are really sensitive these days and you can't say anything. It's kinda like when you go from kindergarten to first grade, there's a learning adjustment. When you go from high school to college, there's a learning adjustment. I don't think I said anything that wasn't factually correct. Greatness is gonna translate. She's proven that in every level and I don't see that being any different in the WNBA."

I miss those girls with the Dallas Wings Team. No 'true' offense to everybody in general.
On a personal yet an irrelevant note; congrats to Satou and the German team to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.
⚠️ Disclaimer: I don't own the image & image isn't mine.
📷 Credits to Dallas Wings via Twitter/X and WNBA plus Pinterest for this lovely image of what feels like my girls in the Dallas Wings Team.

"For the young kids that are here, I still get that same feeling that I had when I was 17 or 18 and I was on my recruiting visit. This place is just special. There's a certain energy. And it starts with the people that work for Connecticut. It starts with every single person that you see every single day. It's a full circle moment for a lot of us. And it is home. It's somewhere where you find who you are as a person. You're challenged every single day, on the court, off the court. And we've all lived it. And that's the beauty about playing with a UConn jersey. Whether you win a national championship, whether you don't, you've gone through the grind of what it is to be a husky. And everything you learn here, you might not know it now, but you're going to need it in life. I'm just honored to come back, to be around current players, older players..."

been a ionescu fan for a while, sloot move makes sense if you have sab as the secondary ball handler and give control of the offense to sloot. it’d be like a step up of the offense that was run at oregon with maite cazorla in her senior year. sloot sab naj jj and another player doesn’t really make sense defensively for me though
sabrina definitely does work well at the 2, but to maximize her skills she still needs to kinda run the offense while doing that. and sloot needs to run the offense in order to maximize *her* skills. just because sab's a good 2 doesn't mean that any style of PG at the 1 makes sense. she's still very ball-dominant as a 2
i think you could put them on the floor together and do some pretty great things on offense, but it won't get the full potential out of either of them. just feels like a waste i guess? i think NY's money would be better spent elsewhere, but there aren't a ton of good PG free agents on the market
totally agree on defense, though. depends on who the other forward is, but it feels a bit shaky
#ask#wnba#i actually would like to see moriah jefferson at the 1#but i think ny is pushing for a championship and that would be more of a question mark

I wasn't impressed with CC, but this post had two of my fave highlights from the game - AT showing what it takes to want the ball (and be an Olympian) to looking like an absolute amateur with the airball. All that's missing is the Dijonai strip/layup just before the half. Clark's body language screamed defeat.
And all of that woudn't be such a bad thing if it was just rookie growing pains (which it is, to be fair.) But the atmosphere around the game was just bizarre. I got to Mohegan Sun around 5pm, as usual for a 7pm tip. The line to get into the arena was packed in the area in front of the box office and wrapping around the hall near the entrance to the Wolf's Den and down past the Comix Roadhouse. All the balcony restaurants (I'm partial to Landsdowne) had a 30-40 minute wait. So many people in Fever/Iowa/Clark shirts - which would be great if they were there as team fans. I've been to Red Sox games in Baltimore and Toronto where we outnumbered the home fans and it was a positive experience.
Spoiler alert: The majority of people in Clark shirts were not Fever fans.
The game was sold out and the arena was loud. Sun fans were the majority, but there's usually not a ton of vocal support for opposing teams/players (exception being UCONN alums). This was generally true for the Fever support, with scattered cheering and applause for buckets. Not so when CC scored - which, if I remember correctly, was a lay-up, two threes and two FT. Sections of the crowd were screaming their minds out. It was truly weird.
Then there was the "We want Caitlin!" chants throughout the fourth quarter. You guys know this is a team sport, right? And that Caitlin wasn't very effective when scoring 10 against 4 fouls while she was on the floor?
I don't engage with much WNBA twitter stuff, but my experience today makes me think CC fans don't care all that much about the Fever, the league or basketball in general. They care about stanning Caitlin Clark.
Also, the Fever need to work the offense through Aliyah Boston more and the Sun need to get Moriah Jefferson more minutes. Enjoy your day!
