I'm trying to motivate myself to edit (boo) so trying to get into Morgana's mindset.

What uncommon/common fear do they have?

With her anxiety, and low-self esteem, Morgana has a lot of worries, but her biggest fear is being left behind; she's a necromancer who had come back from the dead on several occassions. She's scared that she'll never die, and have to live in a world without her siblings, friends, Ted...

Do they have any pet peeves?

Morgana is a massive doormat- so even if you're doing or saying something that she doesn't like, she's not going to mention it (at least out loud!) That said, people who aren't punctual really grind her gears.

What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?

A pile of dirty laundry that needs to be dealt with, several books (half-read and unfinished), her towel from her shower that morning- still damp and left on her bed.

What do they notice first in a person?

If they're dead or alive.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?

Despite being a necromancer who had been killed several times, Morgana has a 3/10 tolerance for pain. Death is preferable to a papercut. But with the right mix of adrenaline and fear/anger, she can shrug off bullet wounds and serious injuries when she has to.

Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?

Flight, 100%. Morgana hates confrontation and will only fight back if she's backed into a corner.

Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?

She grew up with four other siblings, but didn't really have a family in the traditional sense. She grew up in an institute as a lab specimen. All she wants is a place to feel at home and to have her own family.

What animal represents them best?

Hedgehog; small, prickly, curls up and waits for death at the first sign of danger.

What is a smell that they dislike?

Disinfectant- it reminds her of the mortuary where she spent a lot of her childhood.

Have they broken any bones?

Every bone in her body has been broken at least once. Good thing she's a quick healer.

How would a stranger likely describe them?

Unassuming, bland, average...

Are they a night owl or a morning bird?

Early bird

What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?

Hate- peas (and rightly so!) Love- Chocolate.

Do they have any hobbies?

When she's not solving murders, Morgana like to knit. She reads (sometimes) and cycles. She's also a talented sketch artist, and likes to doodle when her mind wanders.

Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises?

Flinch, wait for the attack, reaslise what's happening, and then feel overwhelmed by feelings of love.

Do they like to wear jewelry?

Not really.

Do they have neat or messy handwriting?

Quite neat, although an be a scribbler if having to write fast or take notes.

What are the two emotions they feel the most?

Anxiety and worthlessness

Do they have a favorite fabric?

Cotton or linen- as long as it's soft and breathable.

What kind of accent do they have?

West of Scotland accent, because that's where she grew up.

From Memento Mori Part IV: Memoria De valens vivat tamque vestri

My breath billowed out before me under the Hunter’s Moon. This deep in the desert, the light pollution hardly touched the night’s sky, so the white band of stars that made up the Milky Way spread across darkness.  Halo Rock, the formation that the town was named after, was cold to the touch. I was bundled in my warmest clothes, and from my vantage point at the top of the formation’s arch, I could make out most of the desert in the moonlight.  The light of the town was visible on the horizon to my left.  “Still no sign of the beast,” August appeared at my side, whispering, even though no-one else would be able to hear him. “Are you sure it will come?”  “He’s out there,” I nodded, my eyes still scanning the horizon. “He’ll come.”

RULE ONE/OOC INFORMATION Hi, my name is Kel, I'm over 21+ and use the pronouns she/her. Time zone is GMT.For now, my blog will run on a queue as I'm busy with some real life stuff. Pink:

The young woman, dressed in a hot pink tank top that was two sizes too small for her, and ripped denim shorts, stood out amongst the other watchers who were  bundled up and dressed for the Scottish November weather. She ran amongst them, but they stood, oblivious to her obvious distress. She screamed and shouted, waving her hands before their eyes, but they gave no reaction.

West:

I almost said that it was fine, but I bit my tongue, and instead handed him back his scarf. At least West had taught me something.

Fun:

“You should finish her off,” Zariah reloaded her gun. “Put her out of her misery.”  “Let him have his fun. He deserves to watch the light leave her eyes. You know how much he enjoys it,” Victor was swallowed up by the mangroves, Clay, Matisse and Zariah following closely behind  him.

I was the avatar of the underworld. I held the power of life and death in my hands. I was righteous, and I was more than justified to end his life.  I had made a deal with the devil, and there would forever be a stain on my soul. A stain that he had put there, and from which I would never be clean. There is a fine line between justice and revenge, and I felt myself teeter on the precipice.

Out of Context:

I pulled on the threads that I had dug my nails into, and absorbed the life from him. The colour drained from his face, and he tried to yank his hand free from around my neck, but my hold on his lifeforce was too strong.

Rules: Which of your OCs would you assign to which of the seven deadly sins and why?

Pride: Arnauld- he's good at what he does and he knows it. He will happily boast about his exploits and successes. He doesn't consider pride to be a sin; in fact, he thinks the complete opposite. If you're worked for something, why shouldn't you be proud of your achievements? (He's also likely to want to boast about some of his own failures as well, especially if they were spectacular!)

Greed: Pete- although, I struggled to figure out who would represent this particular sin, Pete is probably the closest I have to some who is selfish/greedy of my characters. He self-medicates to deal with his trauma of growing up in the Investiture, and therefore leans a lot on siblings to pick up the pieces of his life when it all implodes.

Sloth: Morgana- my girl is the most reluctant hero of all times. If I didn't force her to get out of bed and use her superpowers, she'd still be in bed. Now, yes, she does have a lot of emotional trauma and clinical depression, but the explains her behaviours, it doesn't excuse her reluctance to be the hero I want her to be. That's just sheer laziness on her part!

Lust: Avery- hands down, without a question, Ave. They are lust personified. Avery could start an orgy in an empty room.

Envy: Sarah- even though Morgana would disagree with her sister, Sarah feels that Morgana is more successful and powerful. She's not a jealous person when it comes to anyone else, and is actually a really gracious person overall, when it comes to Morgana, Sarah becomes a bit of a green-eyed monster.

Wrath: Mavis- She's a bundle of rage and spite. She wakes up every day with some fury in her soul. She just wants to go on a rampage, and honestly, I'm willing to let her!

Gluttony: Anton- he likes the simple pleasures in life, in which food is one of them. My boi has a sweet tooth, and will happily eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He knows all the best spots, and will usually be able to wrangle a reservation purely because he's spoken to the chef for hours about how good the food was.

Please enjoy some out of context Morgana Dodds. I've taken these out of the first three books of Memento Mori, and I hope they kind of show her character arc, even if just a little :

"I’ve done more than anyone else has,” I felt my hackles rise in defence of myself. “I’m not a police officer. This isn’t even my job!”

 “I just want to be left alone, and get on with my life. Like a normal person.” 

“I was hardly a superhero.”

“Sorry, I was held up with something,” I opened the door, and let her in. “Tea?” 

“How long was I gone?”

“I’m sorry,” who I was apologising to, I wasn’t sure.

“It’s my specialty,” I hugged my knees to my chest, self-conscious of the hole in my bloodied shirt. “Was anyone else hurt?”

“I’m fine. But I appreciate you checking in on me, and I might take you up on your offer.” 

“I step aside. Normally, I go to the Beyond and just hang out there until I need my body back, or you leave. But this time, I’m going to try to stay here.”

“You made one tactical error,” I spat blood from my mouth, revelling in the metallic taste on my tongue. [...]“You fucked with my family,” I wrapped my hand around his wrist, and gripped his soul.

“I guess I don’t have much of a choice then, do I?”

“Go ahead,” I nodded to her. “Have some fun. I’ll clear up here, and have an early night. The last night out I had in Albuquerque didn’t end so well!”

“You know, in the olden days, like centuries ago, I think, going all the way back to the Egyptians maybe...but anyway, ancient peoples believed that a person’s essence was kept in their hair and nails. So to have someone’s essence, is to have power over them.” [...]“Maybe there were more like me, back in those times. So, people were careful with their hair and nails, and teeth too. They knew the power you could have over someone, if you held their essence. For example, you can summon the dead back from their graves. Make sure they never find peace.”

“When Gregarov screams and begs for forgiveness, it’s not the universe that he’s speaking to, or God. Back to editing/re-writes of Memento Mori to try to get back into writing. Still not happy with this scene, so it'll probably end up on the cutting room floor!

“Violence is the only thing he understands,” tears welled in my eyes. “I’d do anything to get Kyrie back. Pay any price!” “Not this,” she gently pulled me away from his body, the heart monitor screaming as Victor flatlined. His outline was blurry, his spirit almost within my grasp. “We’ll get her back.” Reluctantly, I released the sliver of life, and the monitor stopped its alarm, the white line returning to its peaks and troughs.  “You’ve betrayed your masters,” I let out a trembling breath, and Zariah squeezed my shoulder. “They’ll know what you’ve done. I thought you were no longer a threat because you were in a hospital bed, but you’re just as dangerous as ever.” He attempted to smile again, but he was too weak.   “I’ll report back to Eagle Command about his involvement in all of this,” Zariah dropped her hand off me, and I noticed that she slipped the knife back into her sleeve. She was also willing to go what was needed, and would have cut my throat if I’d not backed down. Some things never change.  “I will always be a threat to you,” the machine spoke his words without inflection. That made what he said next even more terrifying. “Remember that, when the Gates open and I take my rightful place, holding your leash.” “Threats from the man who’s chained to his bed by a catheter and a life support system,” Zariah pulled a face in disgust. “You’re all farts, and no shit, Victor.”

Working on my second draft of Memento Mori Part III so have been re-writing some dialogue to make it less clunky and exposition heavy.

He leaned over and whispered to me in a conspiratorial manner: “Snickerdoodles.Can’t stay mad at someone who brings you a snickerdoodle!”  “...Snicker…doodle?” I raised an eyebrow.  “Wait? What! You ain’t ever heard of a snickerdoodle?”  I shook my head.  “You’ve never had a snickerdoodle? What do y’all eat over in Scotland for fun?”  “Tunnocks Tea Cakes, mostly. Tablet,” I saw his look of confusion. “Not...like a pill or medication. Tablet is basically crystalised sugar and condensed milk.It’s nicer than it sounds. And goes well with a cup of tea.”  I’d tried Hershey’s chocolate when I was in the airport. I knew where the superior confectionary came from. And I could kill for a cup of tea.  “You’ve got to try one of my snickerdoodles. Then you’ll  understand,” Ted nodded sagely as he started up the engine, and pulled back onto the road. “I’ll make you a fresh batch when this is over.”
