The following is, according to @dduane,"Old man shakes fist at unpleasing-and-overpriced-pen-shaped cloud," so YMMV about any or all of it. :->

As anyone who reads my blog will know, I'm interested in - among other things - history, movies, fantasy, cats and fountain pens, all of which get at least a mention in this post..
That's probably why, a couple of years back, a friend pointed me at a Montegrappa Limited Edition pen. Of course he may just have been curious to hear my reaction, and believe me, he certainly did. This post is the short version. :->

The other day I saw it again, and was even more... Whatever the diametric opposite of "impressed" is, because mere "unimpressed" doesn't pack enough punch.
That Viking longship is both a display stand and a storage box, and I already knew the figure is the pen. Despite being described as "a perfect reproduction of a Norse soldier in miniature", historical Vikings didn't dress like that. There's plenty of evidence proving historical Vikings didn't dress like that. And yet...
IMO it's just ugly.
It's also $16,348 at current Rate of Exchange, so Expensive and ugly.
There's a gold version too, which on the website is "price by request", so I went looking elsewhere and here's what I found.
That converts to $224,959.82, so Way More Expensive.
And still ugly.
Some pages of the Montegrappa website are like a glimpse into the lifestyles of the Rich and Tasteless, showing a skewed talent for making expensive things look gaudy and cheap.
Maybe they're a gilty pleasure. (ouch)
Their sensible pens, however, are much more appealing and way less expensive (though most are still far from cheap). This is the Magnifica.
This is the Elmo 02 in "Croda Rossa".
And this is the Venetia in "Vintage Conifer".
I like them because they're shaped like what they're meant to be, as well as looking comfortable to hold and use. The Venetia is especially attractive. If King Thranduil of the Wood-Elves used a fountain pen, it would be one like that.

Nakaya pens are also at the understated other end of the style-scale to exuberant, extravagant or execrable "Limited Edition" stuff, and here are three of my favourites.
"Cigar decapod twist" kuro-tamenuri (black top lacquer over red base lacquer)...
..."Cigar decapod twist" aka-tamenuri (solid dark red over red)...
...and "Cigar" tamesukashi neko (translucent dark red over red and maki-e gold cat)...
...which is a bit more elaborate, but no need to guess why I like it. :->
Shot after beautiful shot of the elegant Montegrappa Elmo 01 Very Peri fountain pen. 😍💜💙 Can you picture this pen in your life? Tell me all the places you’d slip her out and feel beautiful writing with, because I can definitely imagine a few. ✨✒️
I love many things and one is Fountain Pens and since there's no Robin fountain pen (Montegrappa had a collection of Bataman/DC inspired pens but Robin was not included) I wondered how a pen could be Robin coded? Colors? Barrel design? Any ideas?
I'm trying to think of bots with colors you haven't gotten a lot about, hmmm. Shockwave, Senator or otherwise?
Senator Shockwave is a flashy, fancy fucker. I know that man has some ludicrous pen that is one of a kind, without being like, completely 'oh you rich twat' (not one of those twenty grand bits of nonsense, lmao). There's also the fact he changes colour schemes all the time, so that gives me a little freedom.
I'm going with this Montegrappa 'artist proof', i.e. a one-of-one edition, with a gold nib. Montegrappa are known for expensive luxury pens that are nonetheless very high quality and mostly justifiable in their standard lineup, aaaand then the sort of 'twenty grand for Utter Nonsense' millionaire bait in their LE lines, lmaooo. This treads that line nicely, looks classic but also very Fashion TM, and fits that one yellow-green and cyan look he sports that is my personal favourite. Just OTT enough to make you double take, but you'll admit, hey... it's a nice pen.
(But seriously. Look at their LE pens. SEVENTEEN THOUSAAAAND EURO.)
so Miranda priestly would use expensive pens but they wouldn't be montblanc and would be much more likely to have pens from other Italian brands like Anchora or Marlen or Montegrappa or even a few Namikis or Taccias and in this essay I will
also nobody asked but I was thinking about toumaki pens obviously and I haven't decided quite on toudou yet (presumably some vintage Japanese design, possibly inherited from his mother) but makichan clearly had to be something absurdly expensive and kind of ugly and ideally european so I knew it had to be montegrappa which meant an excuse to look at montegrappas and

Montegrappa is best known for designing pens beyond the fantasies – and budgets – of the average handwriting enthusiast, but the Italian company’s latest release sees a return to its more modest roots and the vision of its original co-founder, Heinrich ‘Elmo’ Helm.
ok forget everything you've ever heard about expensive fountain pens, i just found the one that takes the cake

ONE MILLION DOLLARS?? bruh not even namiki pens are that expensive. not even montegrappa with their super extra display sets are that expensive. not even that one pen i ran across that was apparently completely made of real solid gold is that expensive. what's going on here???
💜 My first time handling a Montegrappa/Kenro fountain pen, and I have to say. I get it.
This is the Montegrappa Elmo 01 in Very Peri, and I can *feel* the difference in quality. There’s a luxe weight to the pen, intricate detailing in the smooth-writing nib (just a hint of feedback to let you know it’s making contact with the paper) and the cap twists down to a solid and secure stop rather than continuing to turn and possibly resulting in an over tightened cracking mishap. Then there’s the packaging. A gold embossed box lined with textured silk to match a single pen sleeve topped with a gold button clasp. The entire unboxing experience makes this an excellent gift candidate, if not for a friend or loved one, then for yourself. 😍💜🎁
Welcome to Inkmas Day 10! I recently started revisiting older ink lines and fell in love with the bright blue of Montegrappa Sapphire.
The color is very close to Birmingham Pen’s Polar Bear and KWZ Walk Over Vistula. Both of those blues also have a beautiful red sheen which is also present in Sapphire.
On Midori MD paper, the blue of Sapphire pops against the off white tone.
