So, the greatest radio station in the world just so happens to be broadcast out of my own hometown, Springfield, IL. Alice 97.7 (WLCE) plays the greatest music, has the greatest hosts, and sponsors the greatest events of any radio station I've ever heard.

Their slogan is "Springfield's music alternative," and they make a point of not limiting themselves to any one genre or era. My favorite ad that they do reads "Some stations think all old music is better, some stations think all new music is better. We think better is better." AND IT SHOWS. Adele, Mumford and Sons, Fun., and Civil Wars are just a few examples of bands that played on Alice long before other radio stations started picking up their stuff. But they also frequently play old school classics, like The Clash, Elvis Costello, and The Beatles.

Additionally, their on air personalities are incredibly cool, with Molson and Josie being my favorite radio program of all time. All their broadcasters are smart and witty (as is to be expected), but best of all, they're all just a little bit nerdy. For example, they all watch really fantastic television - Molson and Josie love The Walking Dead and Phineas and Ferb, Lars just started watching Sherlock and he's seen the Avengers four times, Susan follows Mad Men, and Joy loves Doctor Who and a whole bunch of other stuff which is all fantastic.

Their news commentary is always entertaining and spot on, their taste in music and tv is impeccable, and what's more, they really seem to love and understand this community. To me, Alice is the definitive picture of the area's unique culture - and I would love for people outside of Springfield to be able to appreciate it too!
