We took a snorkel tour to Molokini Crater off the coast of Maui - super cool deep water for snorkeling, but it was very rough the day we were there so I spent almost as much energy trying to keep myself from floating away as I did admiring the fishes 😅 we were supposed to go to a second location for turtles but the current was too strong to snorkel, so instead the final hour we did a whale watch and I took FULL advantage of the open bar they gave us. We saw lots more whales, a baby whale, and dolphins! And as fate would have it, we did see some turtles in the water right outside our Airbnb when we got home after 🥰🐢

Exploring Maui: The Ultimate Treasure Hunt and Activities for Kids
Maui, with its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, offers a wealth of activities for kids that promise endless fun and adventure. If you're pondering what to do with kids on Maui, a treasure hunt is a fantastic way to combine exploration with the island's natural beauty. This engaging activity not only provides excitement but also allows children to experience Maui in a unique and interactive way. Here’s a guide to planning a treasurehunt on Maui and exploring other fantastic things to do with kids on the island.
The Excitement of a Maui Treasure Hunt
A treasure hunt is an exhilarating way to keep kids entertained while discovering Maui’s picturesque landscapes. This activity can be tailored to various age groups and interests, making it one of the most versatile activities for kids.
Planning Your Treasure Hunt:
Select a Location: Maui’s diverse terrain offers perfect settings for a treasurehunt. From sandy beaches to lush parks and scenic trails, the island's natural beauty enhances the adventure. Consider Kaanapali Beach for a beach-themed hunt or Iao Valley State Park for a more forested experience.
Create Clues: Craft clues that lead to different locations or landmarks. For younger children, simple riddles or picture clues work best, while older kids might enjoy more complex puzzles. Incorporate elements of Maui’s culture or natural features to make the hunt educational as well as fun.
Hide the Treasure: Choose a treasure that excites the kids—small toys, treats, or Hawaiian souvenirs are great options. Ensure the hiding spot is challenging yet accessible, and consider using a decorative box or chest to add to the excitement.
Prepare the Map: A map can add an extra layer of adventure. Draw a simple map highlighting key locations or landmarks to guide the kids. Artistic touches and thematic elements can make the map more engaging.
Other Top Things to Do With Kids on Maui
While a treasurehunt is a standout activity, Maui offers a variety of other exciting activities for kids. Here’s a roundup of the best things to do with kids on the island:
1. Hiking in Maui: Adventure for the Whole Family
Hiking in Maui provides an excellent opportunity for families to explore the island's stunning natural scenery. Several trails are well-suited for children, offering both adventure and breathtaking views.
Iao Valley State Park: The Iao Needle Lookout Trail is a short, easy hike perfect for families with young children. The trail provides stunning views of the Iao Needle and the lush valley, making it a rewarding experience without requiring a strenuous trek.
Twin Falls: Located in Haiku, the Twin Falls Trail is slightly more adventurous but still manageable for families. This trail takes you through a tropical rainforest to a series of picturesque waterfalls, where kids can enjoy splashing in the shallow pools.
2. Beach Fun and Water Activities
Maui’s beautiful beaches offer endless opportunities for fun and relaxation. Kids can enjoy a range of activities, from playing in the sand to trying out water sports.
Wailea Beach: Known for its calm waters and scenic beauty, Wailea Beach is ideal for families. The gentle waves make it safe for young swimmers, and the wide sandy area is perfect for beach games and building sandcastles.
Molokini Crater: For an underwater adventure, snorkeling at Molokini Crater is a must. This partially submerged volcanic caldera provides clear waters and vibrant marine life, making it an exciting experience for kids interested in ocean life.
3. Educational and Interactive Experiences
Maui offers several educational attractions that are both entertaining and informative for children.
Maui Ocean Center: This aquarium is a fantastic destination for families. It features exhibits on local marine life, including sea turtles, sharks, and colorful reef fish. Interactive displays and live presentations make it an engaging experience for kids.
The Maui Animal Farm: Located in Haiku, this interactive farm allows kids to feed and pet a variety of animals, including goats, pigs, and chickens. It’s a hands-on experience that teaches children about farm life and animal care.
4. Cultural and Creative Experiences
Incorporating cultural experiences into your Maui visit can be both educational and fun for kids.
Baldwin Home Museum: Situated in Lahaina, this historic site offers insight into Maui’s past. Educational tours provide an engaging way for kids to learn about the island’s history and heritage.
Hawaiian Luaus: Attending a traditional Hawaiian luau can be a memorable cultural experience. Many luaus feature performances, storytelling, and crafts that capture the essence of Hawaiian culture, offering both entertainment and education for the whole family.
Tips for a Memorable Family Vacation
Plan Ahead: Organize your treasure hunt and other activities before your trip to ensure you have everything you need and can make the most of your time on the island.
Be Flexible: While having a plan is great, be open to spontaneous adventures. Maui’s natural beauty often surprises with unexpected discoveries.
Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe: Maui’s tropical climate can be intense, so keep the kids hydrated and apply sunscreen regularly to protect their skin from the sun.
