I'm Mollymauk posting again - my coat is fully embroidered as of tonight. The hood pieces need to dry and i need to cut out a few more ribbons but I'm???? Omg. It also all needs to be ironed, it is SOZ wrinkly rn from washing the emrbdoiery stabilizer off. I'm gonna add some beads next!

I think the great thing about making a Mollymauk cosplay is you can really make it your own while still making it feel true to the character.

The terrible thing is I love making things difficult for myself and decided that each peice needs to be hand beaded.

Gods know I don't need another project on my roster, but I want to make a Mollymauk clothing item that will be just non costume-y enough for me to wear casually, without the entire cosplay. I'm thinking maybe a buttoned hoodie? Maybe some other closure but definitely a hood.

So here's what I have so far to discover/understand:

The cut of the top (how many parts)

The color scheme (ostentatious! But not ugly)

What I want to include in the embroidery

Fabrics (weights, textures)

How to sew basic garments (and if the machine I have is working)

Maybe I want to do the most of it by hand? Psudo historical sewing type thing? (I have basic hand sewing skills)

So as you can see, I'm at the very beginning of the process. I'm definitely going to look up previous cosplay adjacent works, but feel free to tag me if you think I should see stuff

Nearly ten months in the making,, my Mollymauk coat

I had minimal sewing/embroidering knowledge before starting this project in October 2022, and I’ve come a LONG WAY since then. This coat is *entirely* hand-sewn (RIP my poor poor fingers)

I’m so incredibly proud of it. Finally get to wear it in a week for ren faire (pray for me to not get heatstroke

Some little Easter eggs I “hid” in the embroidery

- a traveler symbol

- a four leaf clover and broken chain for Yasha

- Raven feather for Vax

- Libra constellation (my zodiac) and Gemini (the twins for vex and vax)

- two red eyes

- at least two All-Seeing eyes

- a tree for melora (xhorhaus tree, perhaps?)

I finally finished my version of Molly’s coat!! I am so proud of it. I don’t really know exactly how many hours it took me to do this, but it must have been many. The embroidery is inspired by some DnD deities and some are just random shapes and symbols I thought matched the character. I even made the jacket that he seemingly wears under the coat. I just made that up by myself, because you cant really see it in the official artwork and I wanted to mainly use fabric I already had at home. Its mostly made out of tablecloth and old pillowcases.

Hi I'm finally far enough along I'm ready to show tumblr my current project ahdhdjdj;; I decided fuck my fear it's time to make Mollymauk ahdjdj;; A month and a half into this coat, and this is where I'm at! I'll be back with more milestone progress at some point ahdjdj,;

The ribbons aren't sewn down and one side is a little wet so don't mind wonky ribbon and slight color differences but! 👀👀 He's In Progress.
