Not the Daughter She Wanted
Ron was not the daughter their mother wanted. Nor was he 'the brother they never knew they had' or however Fred and George had put it.
Ron was just Ron, and he liked it that way. Even if his mother bemoaned about him wanting to cut his hair.
"Are you sure, dear. It would look lovely, like Ginny." His mother would always try to convince him or flat out refuse to cut his hair. But after he had tried to cut it himself with scissors and butchering it, his mother would begrudgingly cut his hair.
Or when he played in the mud and roughhoused with his older brothers.
"It's not lady like to play like.. like a boy, Andronica. Why not play with Ginny? She misses playing with her older sister. " His mother would scold him, yet he could only watch longingly as Fred and George chased Percy around the house.
Ron never liked being called Andronica, his birth name, and everyone in the family knew that. His mother knew that, yet she insisted on using Andronica.
--
The compartments were packed, and Ron had nowhere to go. Luckily, he found one, yet a person was already inside it. Someone he didn't know, yet he had nowhere else to go, so Ron's only choice was to open the door.
Inside sat a lone child, a boy, someone around Ron's age. With short wild dark hair, baggy clothing, and clearly broken glasses. Yet his green eyes caught Ron off guard.
"Um.. is anyone sitting here? Everywhere else is full," he asked in trepidation. Because what if he said the seat was taken? Ron had nowhere else, but the boy shook his head, so he sat on the opposite side.
Awkward silence fell between the two, neither knowing what to say or do.
"So what's your name?" The boy asked him, yet his voice sounded a bit high, like Ron's and Ginny's.
"I'm Andronica Weasley... but you can call me Ron. I prefer Ron," he quickly added, feeling his ears turn a bit pink.
"Oh, okay, Ron. My name is Harper Potter..." and Ron's eyes widened.
As in THE Harper Potter? The Girl Who Lived?
"But you can call me Harry," Harry added, a shy smile on her. And Ron blushed for a whole different reason.

Ok so Harry has a tendency to blatantly state out loud just how much the Dursleys don't give two shits about him (to the point that the people around him think it's just a typical teenager over exaggerating their complaints), but... Does he realise that the way he is being treated by them is wrong?
Also like, I know that the way the Dursleys treated him plays a huge part in the way Harry behaves and views himself- specifically him not thinking an adult is a reliable source of help and protection + his disastrouly low self esteem + how he doesn't respond to Snape's everything (which is the exact opposite of what James would have done) ... But what are the other ways in which he got affected and it shows? (Someone once mentioned that they hc that when feeling extreme emotions Harry tends to skip out on food and may have nearly wasted away in his second year had it not been for Ron and Hermione- which is also why they act so much like Harry's bodyguards)
Yep, Harry put no effort into hiding his abuse. He literally told anyone who would listen. By 5th year, he was making jokes about it to Ron and Hermione who seemed used to it.
Now, you've raised a few questions and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.
Does he realise that the way he is being treated by them is wrong?
I think he does. Most of his comments about his relatives' treatment definitely sound like Harry is very aware that he shouldn't be treated like that.
“I told you, I didn’t — but it’ll take too long to explain now — look, can you tell them at Hogwarts that the Dursleys have locked me up and won’t let me come back, and obviously I can’t magic myself out, because the Ministry’ll think that’s the second spell I’ve done in three days, so —” “Stop gibbering,” said Ron. “We’ve come to take you home with us.” “But you can’t magic me out either —” “We don’t need to,” said Ron, jerking his head toward the front seat and grinning. “You forget who I’ve got with me.” “Tie that around the bars,” said Fred, throwing the end of a rope to Harry. “If the Dursleys wake up, I’m dead,” said Harry as he tied the rope tightly around a bar and Fred revved up the car. “Don’t worry,” said Fred, “and stand back.”
(COS, page 31)
“It was cloudy, Mum!” said Fred. “You keep your mouth closed while you’re eating!” Mrs. Weasley snapped. “They were starving him, Mum!” said George. “And you!” said Mrs. Weasley, but it was with a slightly softened expression that she started cutting Harry bread and buttering it for him.
(COS, page 39)
But Harry wasn’t going to stand for this. Gone were the days when he had been forced to take every single one of the Dursleys’ stupid rules.
(GOF, page 33)
“Excellent,” said Lupin, looking up as Tonks and Harry entered. “We’ve got about a minute, I think. We should probably get out into the garden so we’re ready. Harry, I’ve left a letter telling your aunt and uncle not to worry —” “They won’t,” said Harry. “That you’re safe —” “That’ll just depress them.” “— and you’ll see them next summer.” “Do I have to?” Lupin smiled but made no answer.
(OOTP, page 54)
“You don’t seem to need many qualifications to liaise with Muggles. . . . All they want is an O.W.L. in Muggle Studies. . . . ‘Much more important is your enthusiasm, patience, and a good sense of fun!’ ” “You’d need more than a good sense of fun to liaise with my uncle,” said Harry darkly. “Good sense of when to duck, more like . . .”
(OOTP, page 657)
It seems Harry is very much aware that the way he is being treated is wrong. the younger Weasleys and Hermione are clearly aware of that too. Harry calls the Dursleys' rules stupid, he knows the Dursleys aren't treating him the way they should and that he doesn't have to take it. That he shouldn't have to take it.
Harry is kind of a best-case scenario of an abused kid and Dumbledore was so lucky Harry ended up functional enough for his plans. It could've so easily gone down differently.
Honestly, I'm enraged on Harry's behalf at how Arthur, Molly, and Lupin (and every other adult) just completely ignore his mistreatment. He really does just state plainly what's going on and has Ron, Fred, George, and Hermione backing up everything he says.
What are the other ways in which he got affected and it shows?
I do like when Harry's approach to food is affected by the Dursleys starving him, that being said, there isn't really any book evidence for it. It's an interesting headcanon to explore though. His low self-esteem, willingness to endanger himself, and his thinking that adults be counted on are definitely effects seen in the books. As for other things we do see in the books:
1. Harry is actually really quiet. He doesn't speak as much as Ron and Hermione and he's pretty awkward with social interaction. He mimics Ron in many ways since he never had any friends before him.
His approach to studying is one of the ways he mimics Ron socially. Harry actually read their school books before 1st year, he found Hedwig's name in a History of Magic. And he planned to study at the beginning of Philosopher's Stone. Then he meets Ron and realizes no one in Gryffindor except Hermione actually studies, and she is hated for it. So he didn't bother studying either, even though he planned to because he wanted to fit in.
2. Harry isn't great at emotional regulation, specifically anger. Harry is a pretty angry character and throughout the books, he actually has moments when he completely loses himself to a sense of anger.
A boiling hate erupted in Harry’s chest, leaving no place for fear. For the first time in his life, he wanted his wand back in his hand, not to defend himself, but to attack . . . to kill.
(POA, page 339)
“Madame Maxime!” said Fleur at once, striding over to her headmistress. “Zey are saying zat zis little boy is to compete also!” Somewhere under Harry’s numb disbelief he felt a ripple of anger. Little boy?
(GOF, page 275)
Harry sat there staring at Snape as the lesson began, picturing horrific things happening to him. . . . If only he knew how to do the Cruciatus Curse . . . he’d have Snape flat on his back like that spider, jerking and twitching. . . .
(GOF, page 300)
If Dudley’s friends saw him sitting here, they would be sure to make a beeline for him, and what would Dudley do then? He wouldn’t want to lose face in front of the gang, but he’d be terrified of provoking Harry. . . . It would be really fun to watch Dudley’s dilemma; to taunt him, watch him, with him powerless to respond . . . and if any of the others tried hitting Harry, Harry was ready — he had his wand . . . let them try . . . He’d love to vent some of his frustration on the boys who had once made his life hell —
(OOTP, page 11)
He does calm down the older he gets. But he definitely has a lot of anger in him.
3. Harry, in general, has a disrespect for authority. I assume this is an extension of his distrust of adults, in that no teacher or nurse ever helped him. Harry is so anti-authority and anti-orders, that he can resist the Imperius Curse decently from the first try.
Harry just doesn't do orders or authority. Actually in the earlier books, and even in books 6 and 7, Harry has his doubts about Dumbledore. He repeatedly tells people he's Dumbledore's man, but in his head, he has doubts. Like he has for any other adult with authority over him.
“Dumbledore’s been driven out of this castle by the mere memory of me!” he hissed. “He’s not as gone as you might think!” Harry retorted. He was speaking at random, wanting to scare Riddle, wishing rather than believing it to be true —
(COS, page 282)
“Because the Ministry of Magic’s still after me, and Voldemort will know all about me being an Animagus by now, Wormtail will have told him, so my big disguise is useless. There’s not much I can do for the Order of the Phoenix . . . or so Dumbledore feels.” There was something about the slightly flattened tone of voice in which Sirius uttered Dumbledore’s name that told Harry that Sirius was not very happy with the headmaster either. Harry felt a sudden upsurge of affection for his godfather.
(OOTP, pages 82-83)
He's very distrusting of adults and authority, but also his peers. He doesn't tell Ron and Hermione everything in the earlier books because he is very slow to trust. Which, makes sense for someone who grew up like he did.
4. His occasional impulsiveness is an extension of his issues with emotional regulation, I think.
5. I think Harry's cunning Slytherin streak is a result of his abuse. The Dursleys' mistreatment taught him to sneak around, to lie, to be clever. It taught him to keep a blank face when being yelled at because if he reacted it'll make it worse.
He learned how to insult the Dursleys in ways that go over Dudley's head. His little way to rebel.
6. His response to pain as well. We see it with Umbridge and the blood quill for example:
He let out a gasp of pain. The words had appeared on the parchment in what appeared to be shining red ink. At the same time, the words had appeared on the back of Harry’s right hand, cut into his skin as though traced there by a scalpel — yet even as he stared at the shining cut, the skin healed over again, leaving the place where it had been slightly redder than before but quite smooth. Harry looked around at Umbridge. She was watching him, her wide, toadlike mouth stretched in a smile. “Yes?” “Nothing,” said Harry quietly. He looked back at the parchment, placed the quill upon it once more, wrote I must not tell lies, and felt the searing pain on the back of his hand for a second time
(OOTP, page 267)
Harry can hide his pain and not react to it, and he does it well. He learned from the Dursleys that she wants to see his pain, and he isn't going to give her what she wants. Instead, he grits his teeth through it and doesn't react externally.
Even later in the book when Umbridge threatens with the Crociatus Curse, Harry just braces himself for it, not planning to break (in later books too, Harry is very willing to get hurt and just deal with it). He is willing to take torture without reacting, and I think this is something he got from the Dursleys.
These are the some other things that came to mind regarding your question. There are probably more that I can't think of now that I might add later. Harry is who he is in part because of his nightmare of a childhood. So many facets of his personality just link back to it.

I’m sick and tired of all these fanfictions treating Ron like shit. Hermione and Harry keeping stuff from him, Hermione commenting on his eating, people treating him like a joke, making fun of his intelligence, making him not able to keep a secret, making him homophobic, and making him seem like an awful person. Im sick of it. Ron would risk his life to save Harry without a second thought and has done so before. He is smart, he’s great at strategy and not some idiot who’s only trait is being jealous. Ron is underrated and over-hated in this fandom and I’m actually so fucking sick of it.
Ron wasn’t jealous of Harry entering the goblet of fire like Hermione thought. It was obvious through what Ron said that he was mad that Harry didn’t tell him, and then lied about it. He let Harry practice spells on him through his fourth years in order to prepare for the tournament.
Ron left during the Horcrux hunt because he was wearing a horcrux. He regretted it immediately and tried to come back but couldn’t find them.
Ron Weasley, at thirteen, stared, who he believed was a mass murderer, in the eye and told him that in order to kill Harry he would have to kill him first and then proceed to double down on it!
Also, it’s not just the fandom either, JK also gave Ron the prefect badge. Hermione was so shocked because she had thought it was Harry and congratulated him only for it to be Ron and had to stutter and backtrack. It took molly a full page to congratulate him, and harry actually felt jealous. Only for Rowling to later make Dumbldore explain to Harry that the only reason Harry didn’t get prefect was because he had to much going on anyways. No. Ron deserved that! I’m sick of Ron not getting nice things.

Good morning GT, and thank you for the new chapter! I have loved the Bill-Fleur interactions in the last two chapters. I haven’t seen a lot of Fleur in Dramione, which makes sense because there’s not a lot of Fleur in canon? I feel like in book 4 she’s basically just Girl Contestant, coming in last place, with some foreshadowing of her checking out Bill and then no mention of her until book 6, where she’s a plot device for an interaction between Harry and Ginny. And the Weasley women dislike her because she’s… there? It feels misogynistic towards Fleur, and shows Molly and Ginny as catty.
Anyways, I guess I don’t have a question besides “Fleur?? Thoughts?” Her readiness to duel in the latest chapter brought to mind the image of her with a broken nose, blood pouring down her face, and performing magic that impresses even Hermione. And Ron’s sarcastic line of “almost like she’s good at this or something”, highlighting the fact that even Hermione had overlooked Fleur as a person with any above-average magical skill.
My Fleur lives her life according to two very important principles: "talk shit => get hit," and "life is too short to pretend I'm not beautiful." This is a characterization admittedly spun from limited canonical evidence, drawing mostly on her iconic "I am beautiful enough for both of us, I think!" clapback to Molly in Half-Blood Prince, which instantly converted me to Team Fleur forever. These are my semi-organized ramblings/two trains of thought on Fleur in canon.
Part 1: Factual basis: Any coherent reading of the text requires Fleur to be intelligent and capable as a witch. I mean. Sorry. There is no other reading that makes sense. She's the Beauxbatons champion — when we're given no reason to suspect Beauxbatons is any less rigorous than Hogwarts or Durmstrang — and she gets a job at Gringotts straight out of school. Where she is working alongside Bill, someone nine years her senior, also very smart/accomplished dude in his own right. And yeah, maybe she's not a Hermione-level genius, but she's still gotta have serious chops to hack it working (1) in her second language (2) in a foreign country (3) in the field of banking, and especially (4) in the field of MAGICAL banking. She's smart! She's qualified. Is she a little snobby? Yeah. Does she boss Ginny around during the wedding prep and maybe go bridezilla? Okay, yeah. Sure. But she's not shallow, bro, she's just hot and French.
Part 2: My conspiracy theory about the Fleurdemption arc in HBP. So Fleur is pretty much the butt of the joke in Goblet of Fire, and when it comes to the Tournament, she has bad luck. She goes 1 for 3, and she has to get bailed out by a 14-year-old in the Second Task. Not Great. (Though my hot take is that isn't her fault actually! Because everybody and their mom is cheating at the Triwizard Tournament. Harry gets told about the dragons by Hagrid, then told by Moody!Crouch to use his broomstick, then told about the egg by Cedric, then given gillyweed by Neville. Karkaroff is implied to be scheming for Krum, like, 24/7. Cedric is told about the dragons by Harry and then... actually, Cedric is pretty much on his own besides that, never mind. A king with integrity.) My point is: Fleur gets written off as a witch because (1) she's hot and therefore assumed to be unserious, (2) she eats shit in the Tournament (which doesn't help the "unserious" thing), and (3) her involvement after that being limited to Molly's New Public Enemy No. 1. Which makes sense in the context of Molly being written as a sort of old-fashioned possessive/bossy mother, but was not my favorite part of the books, because I thought the Fleur/Bill thing was cute. So my conspiracy theory is that Rowling gave Fleur that (iconic) moment of grace in HBP to try and make up for the fact that she was done kind of dirty in Goblet of Fire.

Hey, for @thethreebroomsticksfic Weasley Week I decided to write the most angsty shit possible for Molly Weasley. Below is a preview, rest of the work is on AO3.
Trigger Warnings: Postpartum depression (including intrusive thoughts about harm coming to a baby), complex family relationships, grief, surgery mention, smoking.
“When I became a mom, no one ever said, ‘Hey, you made a death today. You made your children’s deaths.’ Meanwhile, I could think of little else.” - Samantha Hunt
Families have mythologies. There are stories that Molly’s children pass around like calling cards, touchstones. Ron stealing that car, Fred’s first word being “George” and George’s first word being “No.” The fact that Percy was the only baby born exactly on his due date, contractions starting right at five as if he’d politely waited for the end of business hours. How Ginny, Charlie and Bill came early, but Ron and the twins came late. How Charlie’s labour was only eight minutes, and Bill’s was nearly forty hours. As if the circumstances of birth would press into her children like wax. See? I knew who you’d be even then. I knew you right from the start. You were always going to be this person.
Here’s something that she doesn’t tell her children: that for almost every second of those forty hours of labour, nineteen and terrified, she wanted to die. She begged for it. She begged for Arthur, for her brothers, for her mother. She begged the doctor to cut her open. Hour thirty-five, thrashing on the table - just cut it out! Cut it out cut it out get it out of me!
If there’s a shape of his birth in Bill, it’s made of agony.
---
When she thinks of those first few years of Bill, when she was still half a child and yet somehow a mother -
Well, mostly she doesn’t think of them. There’s really no reason to, not anymore.
But if she were to -
Arthur was working long hours. He had to, of course - junior ministry salaries weren’t meant to support a family. Overtime was the only thing that was keeping them fed. And he was such a good father when he was home. Not a word of complaint, not a hint that he was tired. Go to sleep, love, you need a nap. I’ll look after my little Bill.
It was that possessive my that made Molly dig her fingernails into her palms.
Oldest sons always belong to their fathers, don’t they? Arthur would bounce Bill on his knee and says he could be an auror, he could be minister, he could be a curse-breaker - all these grand futures he didn’t get to have himself, poured into the body of his son.
Molly looked at Bill’s chubby face and thought he could be charging into the line of fire, he could be the target of an assassination, he could die alone on the floor of a dusty vault. She fed Bill in the kitchen and thought about all the knives around them, the kettle sitting full and hot like a taunt. She bathed him with her heart in her throat, barely blinking. She was constantly aware of all the things that could hurt him, including herself. After all, she didn’t love the baby.
At forty-six, she knows now that this kind of obsessive fear was love - love done poorly, love swallowed by self-loathing, a conviction that Bill knew she wasn’t good enough for him. At twenty she would lie awake at night, thinking of all the things she’d done wrong and pinching the inside of her wrist.
---
One week after the end of the war, and Ginny is the only child still in the house. Molly thought, automatically, that the whole brood would fly home to her. In the summer, when her children were still children, she would stand at the twilight doorway with a sonorous to her throat and watch them race across the meadows towards her, the kitchen windows their lighthouse across a sea of dark. Tall, rangy Bill herding Fred and George, Ron and Ginny chasing each other in squabbling circles, Percy with a mouth already full of complaints and accusations, Charlie loping slowly, always last. But Bill is with his own family now. Charlie is in Romania. Percy writes her fearful owls and avoids his father’s gaze. George is apparently drunk in the flats of various friends. Ron bounces between George and Harry, trying to watch over them, flooing back home to grab soup and hangover potion. So only Ginny - her much-loved girl, her longed-for daughter, her baby - is in the house, and that fact should not fill Molly with dread.
Ginny has recently adopted a sort of omni-benevolent glow towards Molly, a tacit acknowledgement that she forgives her mother everything. Molly can’t be too angry about this. She did the same to her own mother.
One night, passing the washing up silently between them, Molly says, “You know - dearest - if you were pregnant, I would be there for you.”
“What? Mum, I’m not pregnant. I’m not even - no.”
“I - good, that’s good, but - you know, whatever you need, whenever you need it. I’ll be there for you. I’ll never abandon you.”
“Ok.” Ginny shoots her a half-amused glance under her eyelashes. “Is this you angling for grandbabies? Because, like, I’m pretty sure I’m last in the queue for that.”
Some days Molly cannot remember why she ever wanted a daughter so desperately. It’s just another set of fears.
---
Charlie appeared like a miracle or a Muggle magic trick. Step right up, see the lady step into the Ministry elevator! Watch her as the doors close - do you see her put her hand on her stomach? That faint frown? And now, on the ground floor the doors open and - ta dah! A baby!
(And blood, of course, and two very shocked aurors. And Molly sitting half-naked on the floor of the lift, staring at Charlie in her arms. Too confused to be anything else. What are you doing here? she’d asked Charlie with her eyes, and he’d stared back - I don’t know, what am I doing here?)
When Charlie was eight, they’d lost him. She remembers standing at the kitchen door, all her other children crowded around her, as she called his name over and over again. Thinking, stupidly, don’t let your voice crack, you’ll scare the children. Arthur and Bill had gone out with lanterns, searching down creeks and up dale, their voices getting further and further away until they disappeared under evening birdsong. And finally, at midnight, Charlie had emerged from the trees - right next to the house, he’d only been hiding in the branches. He must have heard her calling.
She floocalls him at four, which is six for him. She knows the time difference by heart. It’s a thought that hasn’t left her since Charlie moved away. She’ll be doing the last of the washing up at ten, thinking about how Charlie is probably getting his last drink of the night in. She’ll roll over on a sleepless night to see it’s three am and know that thousands of miles and two hours away, Charlie is just beginning to get up. She is so used to Charlie’s hand on the clock pointing at work that it has become invisible.
“How’s things?” says Charlie, no hello.
“Good,” says Molly automatically, then - “Well. No.”
“No, yeah. No.”
“How are the dragons?”
Molly knows a lot about dragons now. She reads books on them when she has the time, asks Hermione questions, idly browses through Ron’s Care of Magical Creatures textbooks. She is aware, in a way that makes her prickle with guilt, that she does this so she has something to talk to Charlie about.
“Good. Well, Andrei has this bonkers idea that he won’t let go of - there’s only one Welsh Green stud left in Eastern Europe, so he’s talking about trying to crossbreed…”
He rattles on. Molly listens, nods, asks thoughtful questions. At the end, he says - “And… well… the political situation.”
“Oh?”
“It’s complicated.”
“You could come back - “ Home - “here.”
Charlie snorts. “Oh, yeah, Britain. Very politically stable at the moment.”
“We could be together again. As a family.” She doesn’t say your family needs you. She has finally learnt, after years of mistakes, that that’s not a lever that will ever work on Charlie. “I could take care of you.”
“I’m fine, Mum.”
“I know, but darling - “
“I just - I need to be here, you know? Or I - I can’t be there. I can’t come back.”
When Charlie had emerged from the trees age eight, looking cold and distant, she’d grabbed him by the shoulders and nearly shaken him with the force of her love. Where were you? What were you doing? Didn’t you hear me calling?
I did, he said, I just didn’t want to come in.
But why didn’t you come back?
He’d stared at her, a little blankly. I told you. I didn’t want to come in.

Percy Weasley's life sucked so bad during the last three books holy shit. I'm not done my DH reread (last time I read it was when it came out in 2007), so I might be out of line complaining about this until I read the rest, but...
One of the most irritating things that happens in DH is when the Death Eaters crash the wedding and everyone scatters. Harry, Ron and Hermione later receive a Patronus message from Arthur saying their family is safe. Meaning the Weasley family. But at that exact same time, the Ministry had fallen to the Death Eaters and the Minister of Magic (who Percy was literally the assistant to) was killed and replaced by someone under the Imperius curse. Percy was in so much fucking danger at that moment and I wish we knew if Molly and Arthur tried to check on him before Arthur made that statement to the trio. Like at that point, Percy was a prisoner in his own workplace. He could have easily been Imperiused. He could have easily been killed for being part of a "blood traitor" family, or tortured for information just for having at one point associated with Harry Potter. He could have easily been killed and his body disappeared without the family knowing for months what happened to him. There was no way the entire family was "safe" when Arthur said those words. I wish we knew if they checked on him. I really really wish we knew. I wish we knew if Percy would have allowed them to check on him.
I'm nowhere near the short few paragraphs where Percy reunites with his family during the battle, and I do not remember at all what he said was going on in his life while he was working at the Ministry that year. Maybe I'm premature in saying all this, idk.

A conversation ppl arent ready for is that Drarry and Jily are the same ship.
A pureblood bully who builles fellow classmates:
for being on the poorer side (classist)
happens to be halfbloods muggle raised, and muggleborns
had a bad start on their 1st train ride (they carried that shit into the rest of their school life)
uses really horrible means to get the attention of the person of their affections. including harrassing & humiliating their best friends and stalking tendencies
{Draco wanted to be harry's friend and when Harry refused he made his life hell anyway he could, and harry's friends too}
{James wanted Lily to date him and set out to make her best friends life a living hell because she refused}
Its just funny to me. That ppl cant understand why harry could stand to be with Draco romantically after All Draco has done to him and his friends, going as far as to call it (rightfully) a toxic -- no plot cheap Porn ship -- when they can easily excuse Lily for being with James after all he's done, because he “deflated his ego a bit” and "matured"
Which he actually hadn't. He just lied and kept his actions out of the public eye possibly with the help of the marauders map.
it doesn't even matter if lily knew he was actually still at his old ways, but Jily shippers know this and still ship them.
The most confusing of both ships is trying to understand why they are together after the bully has done to them
*
draco has:
made fun of Harry for being an orphan, insulting Harry's dead mom, blood supremacist
laughed at the prospect of Hermione being sexu@lly harrased, body shames molly, uses slurs easily
wrote a whole song to embarrass Ron in front of the entire school, made the potter stinks badges, classist. maybe more?
*
James has: made Severus life hell just because he exist, because Sirius was bored, lied about stopping his horrible behavior.
blackmailed lily into being with him, choked and sexually assaulted Lily's best friend (all of swm.... I find that people don't focus on the way they froze severus (?) so he couldn't move enough, that to me was so frightening)
internalized classism, blood supremacy (though I'm sure he and Sirius begs to differ), and sexism.
We knew, draco for 7 yrss.
we knew James for a few scenes. wild.

happiness in the midst of chaos
I was at the gym and I thought about it. I love writing about Harry and Sirius, even if this drabble isn't exactly about them only
-----
Harry observed with some suspicion the lively and somewhat secret conversation between Sirius and Hestia; his godfather was smiling in a way Harry had never seen before, leaning against the living room window as he smoked patiently, his freshly cut hair and clean shave made him look less old than before, and the anti-dark circles cream Tonks had bought it for Sirius seemed to be working. It was like seeing him really in his 35th year, and Harry wasn't very used to that.
"Oh, you still remember," Hestia chuckled softly and took another sip of the tea Molly had made. It was snowing and the house seemed colder than usual, even the fireplace was lit, and while everyone was talking in the living room, Ron and Hermione were playing chess — Ron was willing to teach her to be as good as him — Harry left looking for his godfather, missing the man who was just talking to him and Remus, until he found him in the other room, where there was the piano and the family tree that he hated so much.
Hestia seemed comfortable there, she didn't seem to care about the addiction that Harry hated that Sirius had started, the window was open so the smoke could escape and neither of them seemed to care about the gust of cold wind that came through.
The woman was an Auror, Harry had met her a few days ago, when there was a meeting at the house to talk about the ministry and something that they didn't let Harry know, as usual, and she seemed really nice. They didn't talk much, but she was pretty, and Sirius said she had gone to Hogwarts with them.
"Your dad and I loved to irritate her and your mum, Remus as always didn't show appreciation for our behavior, but laughed whenever we made one of them get scared or angry. It was fun, but I don't know how Hestia never slapped me on the face. Man, I deserved it a couple of times." His godfather had said when Harry asked where he knew her from, and Sirius seemed lost in that memory, later when he went down to drink water, he saw him writing a letter and drinking firewhiskey in the kitchen while listening to Muggle radio, the same as his uncles are used to listening.
Harry felt a little jealous, even if he didn't want to admit it, Hestia was stealing Sirius from him and honestly Harry had a lot of matters to discuss with Sirius, that year had barely started and things were already bizarre, all the dreams, and the fact that he had Being able to see what would happen to Arthur made him shiver at night, he really wanted Sirius to help him with that, and there was the whole issue with Cho too... but Sirius was busy, very busy.
"How is he?" Harry felt a little bad listening to their conversation, but honestly, he had done worse things than spy on someone.
"He died a few years ago," Hestia said, but her voice remained calm. "It took a while, I honestly don't know how he got past sixty. But his liver stopped working, the healers had warned him that all that drinking would do that to him at some point, but you remember what my father was like and... It was better."
"And your brothers?" Harry watched as Hestia shrugged.
"I never saw them again. They didn't like me very much anymore, right? Then, after dad died, we just stopped talking to each other. I guess oddly enough, it was just him who still kept us close."
"Oh shit, I know I didn't like them but… Sorry, I think I know how it feels..." Sirius looked sadder than she did, and Harry thought he must be thinking about Regulus. Hestia seemed to think that too because now it was her comforting him, her hand on his arm and a gentle smile on her face.
"I'm sorry about Reg, life sucks." Sirius shrugged and then threw the rest of the cigarette away, closed the window, but remained there. Just like Hestia. None of them seemed willing to go back to the room where everyone was.
"Yes, but… It happens. It's impossible not to die in this situation, let's be honest, there are only so many people alive among the Death Eaters because they aren't acting as actively as before." Sirius said, but then changed the subject "Did you inherit the ice cream shop?"
"Yes, I hired staff and I go there from time to time, but I worked for a few more years until I got a job as an Auror. Moody wasn't boss at the time and things weren't easy." She laughed, and so did Sirius. He had smiled more times in those few minutes than in all the past months.
"I have to go there again, confirm that salted caramel is still my favorite ice cream." Oh no, Sirius moved just a millimeter closer to Hestia, but enough for Harry to take a step back. He didn't want to see this, and he knew exactly what would happen.
He didn't hear Hestia's response, nor why she laughed and then remained silent, ran into the living room again and lied that he was in the room looking for something, his cheeks flushed.
"Where is Sirius?" Remus asked, sitting by the fire reading the wizarding newspaper, legs stretched out and looking less worried than he normally did.
"I don't know," Harry shrugged, trying to sound normal. "I think he went outside to smoke."
"God, I already told him to stop it, he's going to die before he's fifty if he keeps going like this." Lupin denied, drinking more of his tea. "Delicious Molly." He raised the cup towards the matriarch who smiled in gratitude.
It was more than half an hour before Sirius reappeared, he said that Hestia was gone and he was left thinking about everything that was happening. Harry didn't think Lupin believed him, especially because when everyone was distracted again with their own things, he pointed to the pink lipstick stain on the corner of Sirius' mouth, which Sirius quickly wiped off and pretended nothing happened, going over to Harry to talk about school.
Harry also pretended that he knew nothing, but secretly he shared the feeling of jealousy at having to share his godfather with the feeling of happiness at seeing him happier and more… alive.

curious to know what defense you have for ginny making a caricature out of fleur, calling her a cow and another ahem very rude name you know what, being overall jealous of her beauty, putting hermione down for her limited quidditch knowledge, basically going through a pick me phase. since these are some of the main reasons why i see her receiving a lot of bashing.
hello, nice to see that people are still visiting my blog for hp stuff!
I'm not going to defend a fictional teenager for calling someone a rude name behind her back, but eh, she was an insecure 15 year old teenager, and we have all done stupid shit at 15.
Harry was also immature at 15 (not wanting to associate with Luna on the train because she seemed kooky and he felt embarrassed when Cho saw him with her and Neville), so were Ron (emotional range of a teaspoon) and Hermione (intense anger issues, jealousy etc etc)
Fleur was pretty rude too, if i remember correctly. I think she insulted the Burrow and Molly's taste in music (?), and Molly was no less either.
If someone hates ginny for all that, it's completely understandable, but it's sorta funny when the same people can't stop waxing lyrical for people like Draco or the Weasley twins.

10, 16, 21? :)
Not on the list, but I’m curious if there’s any ship or character that you liked at one time, but no longer like, or at least now avoid, due to their fandom characterization?
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
the answer to the final question is that i'll try most things, and that while i dislike a lot of popular fanon characterisation - especially of sirus - it doesn't put me off reading e.g. wolfstar if it's recommended to me by someone whose opinion i trust.
but. it's fair to say that i avoid most things which feature hermione prominently. she's by far my least favourite main character in canon, but i can at least value that she's an extremely morally complicated person. but fanon hermione, who has never done anything wrong in her life, sends me running in the opposite direction.
10. what is the worst part of fanon?
weasley bashing, especially in relation to ron.
so often ron is turned into either a sentient potato who can do nothing but eat or a violent boor who can’t wait to say mudblood and beat hermione up for wanting to be something than a housewife (or sometimes, if the author’s feeling indecisive, both).
but ron is a legend. he’s emotionally mature, kind, funny, loyal, rational, an excellent strategist, and a fully-realised human being who fucks up and then tries to make amends. his love for harry and hermione is astonishing, neither of them would be alive without him, and he deserves more respect.
the same is true of his family - especially molly, who gets a really bad showing in so much fan-fiction [my unpopular opinion? she’s right to tell sirius off! good for her for being the only adult in the series who doesn’t automatically accept the idea that children eventually having to fight is a good or inevitable thing!]. the weasleys are iconic and harry would be nowhere without them, and fics which jettison them as soon as possible so harry can become friends with someone richer need to tighten up.
16. what is a trope, characterisation, headcanon etc. that you can’t understand why people like?
preternaturally suave fanon snape.
in the grand scheme of things, i blame the films for this [my other unpopular opinion? alan rickman had no idea how to play snape! sue me!], but it’s something which has really found its way into snape-centric romance stuff in fan-fic. i’m sure some people must really like the idea of snape being brooding and hot and an attentive, chivalrous partner who sends flowers daily just because - to each their own - but i prefer my snape feral and grimy.
[i also really don’t like the fact that suave snape is usually presented with a caveat that he’s actually hot and harry was just being a dick - i’m sure harry’s description of snape isn’t particularly kind, but also unattractive, weird men are just as deserving of love as gorgeous ones. let snape be ugly and fuck.]
21. what part of canon do you think is overhyped?
i literally don't give a shit about hedwig dying. oops.

i know this is gonna sound controversial because a lotta people mostly the entire fandom love the twins fred and george weasley and they've done some good stuff and there funny and blah blah blah . i hate that we skirt pass the fact that they sucked treating ron decently and as good brothers especially when ron was younger. and nah i don't wanna hear the "it's older sibling shit". im an older sib and i would never give my younger sib cripping arachnaphobia for funsies or put them in a vow that could kill you. and even though they were younger like nobody really displined expect maybe that one time when they tried to do an unbreakable vow with ron and like wtf????? also reading order of the pheonix again i've noticed how cruel the twins comments were towards ron. like it wasn't friendly teasing it was literal tearing down his self esteem. there's many instances in the book where they make being a prefect sound stupid or dumb. i admit that molly may cause a lot toward some of there behavior and they act with jealousy but that is not ok. like hermione literally pointed out,
“You know,” said Hermione, as she and Harry walked down to the pitch a little later in the midst of a very excitable crowd, “I think Ron might do better without Fred and George around. They never exactly gave him a lot of confidence. . . .”
it probs also shows the insecurity and jealousy ron has shown in the 4th book because of shit the twins do or say.
anyways that was my ted talk
#im not bashing the twins#i just want people to look at stuff and not gloss over it#we love calling out ron for his jealousy and insecurity#why can't we call the twins out for being shit older sibs#harry potter#ron weasley#ron weasley deserves better <3

For the Harry Potter fans I wonder who was their favorite villain in a fanfic? Like Voldemort is a cliche already but what of others ? Others that are no Ron or Severus with a Ron the death eater trope (the bashing was so powerful that Ron have his own trope for so much making the bad guy) but like…. Have you see fic with greyback so twisted but same as a villain?? Bellatrix surviving Molly hex and going for revenge ? Even Sybil done with everybody mocking at her for being a ‘fluke seer’ just can be pretty refreshing to read..
for me a sane but still twisted greyback is great, I remember reading a kiss from a rose (it’s a post war snamione but hear me out this shit is goood) and just feel refresh with a villain that cannot be sympathize like zero quality but also sano no matter how twisted? A villain that have his feet in the present and know very well what he doing ? Plotting and seeing how everyone of the good side just underestimate him? Or how is minions no matter if they managed to make you feel pity for them they just- just make you stay in silence for a moment and say ‘well, I would feel sympathy for him/her but now I just hope they are catch soon’ moment? I just there with a headache and just have this revelation in how so much everybody relies in Voldemort, Lucius, RON or even Severus (if the era of Harry parents usually) and boi… there are some good villains there like even a dumbledore blind with his ideals can be good material… just no in the way so many would like, but still.
do you know the greyback of the fic i mentioned just put in almost jaque mate from almost the middle of the fic at almost all people in the story? Some really good plot armor was needed to counter his move and still till the last chapter he virtually win till author say ‘this was so not suppose to happens no Nope’ and win… with a 30 minutes death snape? but hey at the end he fall but was a good villain fall. You know when you feel a weight lif from you ? Seeing it death was that…
Forget it I’m only a person with a big headache but just there thinking how sometimes the greatest villain can be a ignored one.
#harry potter fanfiction#harry potter#severus snape#hp fanfiction#fanfic community#Ron el mortifago trope#fanfiction#fanfics#Any ship with a good villain is god#I already take a pill with the pain in my head don’t go away and make me think deep shit#Greyback can be great villain take serious like the man was already horrible predator of child’s#But a bellatrix with some level of sabe mindset too#I remember one that the own post war ambient was the villain#i need to stop thinking#help#snape community#i respect the author of that fic because after making a villain so dificult to touch the way to take him down need some deep study real lif#And a little of plot armor or everybody die#Bless the authors and their creativity and studies to make thing base on real life logic and metaphysical possible

Fred & George Weasley
I am aware that on my list the first character is Harry. HOWEVER! Who said I was going in order? That’s on you for assuming I wouldn’t be bouncing around following the dopamine. So without further ado…
Fred and George!
I’m going to try my best to separate the two as individual characters, because one of my main gripes with canon is that the twins are always just that, the twins. They have little to no individuality. Is this likely a tool used to make Fred’s death at the end all the more hurtful? Yes! Do I believe this was done intentionally by JKR? No, I do not. I believe that this was something she stumbled upon because she was too lazy to give F&G individual traits that aren’t just “mischief” and “pranks”.
That being said, the two characters are incredibly close, so there are going to be things that are changed about them collectively. So let’s get that out of the way
The twins are not Gryffindors
This has been one of my main gripes with them from the beginning
These boys are too witty and cunning to be Gryffs
I refuse to believe that every move they made was purely impulse
They thought out every move they made
Their inventiveness alone disqualifies them in my opinion
The twins are a lot closer to Harry
Again, the twins are really smart and intuitive
They had suspicions on how Harry was treated by the Dursleys in Harry’s first year, but they couldn’t find anything truly substantial so they kept an eye out and let Harry know that they are there for him if he needs anything
Until the Breakout in Book 2, that’s when they know that Harry’s got some Real Shit going on and fully adopt him as a new little brother
They have a talk with Ron about how Harry’s going to be a little different and if there’s anything that Ron doesn’t quite know how to handle, come to them
(Not in a Harry’s-fragile-and-weird way but in a Hey-these-are-11-year-olds-and-yeah-we’re-only-13-but-we-probably-know-more-about-how-to-help-an-abused-child)
They 100% spend the first week of their fourth year (Golden trio’s second) researching abuse victims and how to help them in the library (This isn’t weird because wait and see in a bit)
They actually are some of Madame Pince’s favorite students
She is their favorite Hogwarts adult
FRED
House: Slytherin
Magick Alignment: Grey
Fred is the more extroverted twin. Not to say George isn’t. But George is more the type to need to recharge after interacting with people all day. Fred has an endless social battery. Fred is the more charming one as well. He’s quick to act and quick to smooth talk their way out of detention or grounding from Molly (or at least he’ll try his best). He’s the ‘face’ of WWW. He is the first one of the two to ‘adopt’ Harry as their little brother in action.
Fred is 100% a Slytherin. He has always been the one to want to be a trailblazer. He’s known since he was little that he wanted to have a ‘thing’ he is known for like how his older brothers do. He had the first ideas for some Wheezes products when he was young, but never could quite crack how to make them work. He took them to George and they were able to figure them out together. He plans and works until he executes them.
Fred does very well in school. He has consistent high marks on most subjects. His only fuzzy one is Astronomy.
GEORGE
House: Ravenclaw
Magick Alignment: Grey
George is more reserved than Fred is. He is the observer. He analyzes something and finds out what makes it tick. He is the brains behind the execution of a lot of Wheezes products. Not to say Fred doesn’t make things on his own, or George doesn’t create things by himself either. But they often naturally fall into these roles. He was the first to clock that Harry might not be the healthiest kid.
George being a Ravenclaw makes so much more sense to me. He’s the one who takes note of Harry's behavior. He subtly makes sure he takes care of himself and is the main researcher between the two on ways to help him.
George excels in school. He has several study methods he exercises based on what subject he’s working on. His favorite thing to do is track data and experiment. He is his own favorite test subject. Fred has learned his lesson and no longer consents to experimentation.
