MaP I1: Week 1: Dusk before Daybreak
Night. 13th of July, 2024. Office of the Transitionary Council (temporary), Mexico City.
The situation was hilarious if you weren't yourself tasked with cleaning it up. Molly Blyndeff, the little girl whose story of childhood struggled had inspired widespread admiration, social movements and adoration; has been elected as the president of Mexico. The subsequent recount and political maneuvering before that had confirmed this beyond reasonable doubt.
You are one of the unlucky (or perhaps lucky from a certain point of view) officials assigned into the Transitional Council to oversee the transition of powers, if it does happen. To note, the Council's roster is incredibly diverse for the wrong reasons: everyone else who would have traditionally taken the job has either fled, been found dead, or resigned from their previous posts. You're even pretty sure some of your new co-workers are not Mexican, or never held government positions before this.
The previous president has resigned, citing his inability to control the violence by resurgent cartels that have pushed Mexico into a state of crisis. Nearly half of the presidential candidates were gunned down on the campaign trial, leaving a popular yet ceremonial candidate as the surviving winning candidate (on virtue of not being in the country). Unfortunately, the task of running the country now falls onto the Transitionary Council barely a week old.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court is (obviously) unhappy with the violation of constitutional requirements of candidacy, but with cartels openly supporting Molly, their hands are tied, not to mention the constant assassination attempts.
Taiga, the extra-dimensional, portal-using nation, and the girl's country of origin, has yet to make an official announcement regarding the situation. Yet their nationals in Mexico seem calm, it seems the leadership of Naven Nuknuk's joint investment programs in Mexico either gives them faith in their own safety or provided benefits to good to lose. At least there seems to be one business group not openly intending to flee.
Regardless, amongst the filled tables of the office. The Council has to decide on its first course of action as government.
3 options exist to temporarily address the crisis:
Cook up a purge of suspected affiliates of criminal organisations and declare martial law. The terroristic cartels must be struck as hard as possible before they can do more damage!
Integrate elements of the previous administration to ensure continuity of government. Focus on restoring some semblance of stability without expending too many resources.
Contact and calm powerful interests in the country from parties to business groups (including STEM), and if possible, convince them into a grand national plan to return the country to normalcy (concessions will be made though). Legitimacy of a government comes from its ability to care for its citizen's wellbeing after-all.

"So... What do we do now?"
In an unexpected turn of events, Molly has been elected president of Mexico . Now, we would like to leave it to democracy to once again decide the fate of Mexico. Here's a rough mindmap of endings (raw and incomplete).
*Snippets are written from the view of a political scenario or visual novel (where the player is the assigned liaison to Molly with the task of navigating, influencing, and surviving the political turmoil around Molly's accension to leadership).
Also yes, options 3 & 4 have the same footnote.
A poll on the endings we shall work on next will come out shortly next week. Unless option 4 is taken, in which case we shall begin with the storytelling.

MaP: Week 2: Picking Up The Can
Noon, 20th of July, 2024. Palacio Nacional (National Palace), Mexico City.
None of you can remember more than a sentence or two from the speech that the Transitionary Council's spokesperson made in the Congress of the Union (Mexico's General Legislature) a week ago; not from lack of care but rather from collective exhaustion. Yet within a few days, you have helped pull Mexico from the edge of anarchy back to a somewhat cohesive government in a move that will no doubt enter future textbooks if all goes on well. But alas, the great task has only begun; and it is time to begin on the question of the elected.
Status Report
The Transitionary Council's role in government has been partially returned to its original electoral role, it still has the final say in terms of executive power to maintain an apolitical and stability oriented governance as the task's execution is handed over to elements from the previous government and political blocs that have survived the election. At the very least, the questions of legitimacy and political stability have been hushed with most parties somewhat placated for now.
Yet the cartels still remain active. Though their presence seemed to have vacated the capital in wake of the formal return to order, some fear this is less a retreat but more of a reinforcement of their traditional strongholds. The armed forces remain as they were before the crisis, though some special security measures have been enacted in the capital and in high risk areas.
The Supreme Court has welcomed the formation of a proper government, and has expressed its hopes of a fruitful working relationship with the new government. However their stance against Molly's election remains unchanged.
There has been a small case of capital flight as some corporations and other interests group have succumbed to pessimism and have begun reducing future investments in Mexico, triggering a minor downturn in the economy.
Taiga has broken their silence and have made a statement of acknowledgement on the current situation. It seems their government taking the cautious route, this means we will have an opportunity to make the first move. On an additional note, the Taigan magnate is still in Mexico, perhaps he may offer a clearer path forwards for us; afterall, most dealings regarding Taiga Country in the past goes through him.
The Decision: Our Approach with Taiga
With immediate crisis and collapse no longer on the horizon, it is time to discuss our approach with Taiga. Especially on what to do regarding Molly Blyndeff...
Several potential paths have been laid and presented. Some by experienced diplomats and former advisors, some by researchers, most summarised and reinterpreted by others in the Transitionary Council, and is that a STEM spokesperson in the corner? How did they get in here?
Make a formal invitation to Taiga for joint discussions with the fairly neutral and safe aim of making a Memorandum of Understanding in terms of the current situation in Mexico, and how it relates to Taiga Country. This even-handed approach can't be expected to make great strides in progress, but offering Taigan diplomats room to make their stance may prompt them to highlight the possible paths forward regarding their citizen, and what they may suggest.
Welcome Taiga into discussions and announce the Transitionary Council's intention of accepting Molly as our president elect. Hopefully they will be amicable in making possible the wishes of the Mexican people. Will force open rifts between the Transitionary Council and the Supreme Court as it is typically unconstitutional to elect a foreign-born child to be president.
Make our stance that Molly cannot become our president for obvious reasons. Let's hope that they understand. Will please the Supreme Court but may trigger unrest from supporters of Molly's candidacy (after all, her candidacy was the result of most political parties running out of live candidates to field on the day of the election, as well as protest & joke votes).
We could approach Naven Nuknuk for consultation and mediation before we make our stance on Molly clear. Meanwhile, we will try to restore our relations with Taiga back to the cordial level of the pre-election honeymoon period, a comfortable status quo for both parties. However, some concessions might be made to get him on board which may offend nationalist hardliners who believe Molly's election is the result of Taigan meddling.
Perhaps, it is to early to make big moves on the stage of diplomacy yet. It is best if we remain silent on the topic for now to give more time for our country to recover. But we can make the visiting magnate our backchannel into what our Taigan counterparts might be thinking. Thus we negotiate privately with Naven, and share the burden of kicking the can.

Wow, I did not expect you guys to want the CYOA option that much. I thank you all for exercising your primary form of interaction on this series of posts, I shall begin work immediately. So while I prepare the plotlines, here's some general stuff how this poll-based story will go:
Most of these posts will have a poll, some might even have links to documents with more lore and elaboration.
All of you voting and interacting with posts with the tag '#Molly as Presidente au' decides what happens in Mexico from a 3rd-person view, the perspective would mostly be aligned with that of the newly formed Transitionary Council, but might still shift to what will other parties do in so-and-so scenarios. But for roleplaying's sake, I would suggest imagining yourselves as members of this hastily assembled committee tasked with ensuring the country survives the political crisis brought upon by the election of a child you are all familiar with.
The posts would be titled with a week number [1-20], which would record where in the timeline that post takes place in. As Mexican Elections typically begin on the first Sunday of July and the new president is inaugurated on the 1st of December that same year, we have roughly 21 weeks to get Molly, a child from another dimension, into the role of President of the United Mexican States.
Coincidently, both this poll-based-CYOA and the story it tells begins in July.
There are multiple endings, some have Molly surviving the political arena and some end up with everything going up in flames. Make your votes count carefully.
Feedback is appreciated! We are not professionals but we are willing to make things work. If too little emphasis is placed on Molly or lore elaboration please tell us.
Asks with questions are also permitted.
Disclaimer: We try to avoid directly naming active real life individuals and organisations (with exceptions such as titles of governmental positions, institutions including the Supreme Court or The Military etc) of all sorts. This is a work of fiction not made to accurately depict life and politics in Mexico.
"So... What do we do now?"
