GOD TIER CONCEPT I would kill a man to read this

me: oh I should use my polycule chart template to make one of Moiraine, Lan, Nynaeve and Siuan!

me 15 minute later, lost in intense thought: should Nynaeve and Moiraine fuck??? would that solve world peace??

Random thought the other day was about Nynaeve and the way her arc is completely different from the other young characters because her arc is one of reinvention.

Her path was already set, but the Wheel threw her a curveball and prompted her to ask more out of her life. She had a community, a job, a life set up in the Two Rivers but Moiraine stepped into her cave and suddenly Nyn had a quarter of life crisis. She didn't have to uproot her life to follow her friends, on the road, in the Tower, but she did, aware that this new start would completely shatter her life.

When you think about it, her story is the equivalent of going back to college, well after finishing college, to take up an entirely new studying path, only to keep an eye on her friends. Of course, it's not only that and there's a great deal of self-repression in her rage against Moiraine.

In some ways, Moiraine crystallized a lot of what she's afraid to want, because this isn't the path she herself chose. But following her friends was her choice, and her friends chose not to follow the life Nyn had picked as hers. To an extent she feels they are rejecting her by not following her path.

It is growing pains, even more than for the rest of the EF because this was supposed to be it. She was supposed to be done with the growing. She was supposed to be the mentor, the wisdom, the adult. Except she's not. She refuses to mourn the life she thought she had and rages again that new path calling to her. Although at that point it is the only way forward, and in a direction she doesn't want to go in because she doesn't recognise herself in the woman standing at the other end.

Yet, there are so many breathtaking views on that path: her friends, Lan, the promise of more knowledge, more understanding.

It's a terrible, infuriating, intolerable feeling to be seized with the realization that the choices she made in building herself don't fit her desires anymore, and that in order to find a life that fits she will have to cut parts of herself and regrow and let grief in for the girl she leaves behind.

Nynaeve is an incredible character and I'm excited to see what's in store for her in s3. She's a very adult relatable mess and we need more grown messy women in fiction.

but also the mythal/solas/lavellan parallels in moiraine/lan/nynaeve are actually crazy--like i didn't think about it till now, but of course i'd find inklings of robert jordan's influence in my favourite fantasy game series too

If Rand wanted to be smart early on in the books and save himself from unnecessary amounts of trauma he would have just given Nynaeve a gun and everything would be fine forever

Would anyone be interested in a Wheel of Time fanfic in which Moiraine finds out she's pregnant before visiting Gitara and she and Siuan get excited about retiring and raising the baby together in Tear in the hut by the river, but then they hear the prophecy and so once the baby girl is born she leaves her for Anvaere to raise as her own, so she and Siuan could get on with their job of finding the dragon? And then eventually that baby girl would grow up to become an Aes Sedai and part of the Tower, not knowing Moiraine is her mother (and not seeing her at all bc of her traveling), but then eventually gets caught up with the Two Rivers folk? Please, feel free to comment what would you like to also see happening on a fic like this.

Anybody else here solely for Lan and Nynaeve? They’re the only characters I care about.

Rand’s about as interesting as watching paint dry and so are the others, except for maybe Moiraine and Liandrin.

This show is nothing but wasted potential. Are the books like this as well?

And more photo drops! They aren’t dripping with details, but there may be something to be gleaned.

Starting here with Moiraine in her lovely blue dress, still wearing her Great Serpent ring. It seems even unable to channel (still debated as to whether she is stilled or just permanently shielded), she isn’t letting on and is still presenting herself as Aes Sedai.

Rand with his shaved head still wields his heron-marked blade. Come to think of it, we really haven’t seen him use it in the show hitherto, and there’s certainly opportunity for him to in S2.

Perrin doesn’t look so very Way of the Leaf-y here. Definitely seen some action. Golden eyes—surely a bad sign, per the Children of the Light! Not sure the context here, but he looks older and more experienced than in the photo drop with Aviendha. Except he seems to be wearing the same clothes? And the lighting is the same? Different point in the same sequence?

Mat and his trusty quarterstaff. The Two Rivers had competitions of staff(?) and bow, and Mat has enough practice there that he’s no pushover. Come to think of it, we also didn’t see Mat in action in S1, more just … running.

Notably, he seems to be in the same place as Perrin, based on the lighting and coloring of the building. Is he following them? Traveling with them, even?

Not really much to add here. It’s Lan. Could be the White Tower … or anywhere else. Nothing really revealed here. But it is an opportunity to look at Daniel Henney, and that’s never a waste of time.

Finally, The Wonder Girls! Egwene and Nynaeve team up with fellow Tower initiate Elayne Trakand, the Daughter Heir of Andor, which is technically the kingdom the Two Rivers is situated in, but an Andoran tax collector hasn’t been seen in Two Rivers memory, and most Two Rivers folk would be surprised to learn they have a queen. Isn’t the White Tower a marvelous place, where princesses and rural tavern owners’ daughters are equal in station? I’m pretty skeptical of Nynaeve’s story about the old Wisdom being turned from the Tower because of her rags—I would bet she wasn’t strong enough in the Power for consideration. Some people can barely channel a trickle of the Power, others vast rivers.

Anyway, they sure do seem to be going somewhere in the dark, and packed for travel!
