It’s been very quiet on the cel market to start the new year, after the holidays. But last week I was able to acquire something new, and a piece that’s featured in an opening to boot! It’s a frame of Vash from the opening to Trigun! It’s made up of a few separate pieces to complete the setup, featuring Vash’s head, body (with floaty hair strands), and a layer of smoke, with the sketches for each as well. I took the liberty of making the smoke mostly transparent in the first scan, so it looks closer to how it actually appeared in the scene. Otherwise, it really covers too much of Vash. This frame flies by at about the :55 mark, during the sequence of Vash firing away with his Long Colt.
You really lose a bit of the art against the black background, but the smoke is of course harder to see against the white of my scanned version, too.
Giving you an excuse to listen to H.T. again.

Haven't bought much for myself on cels lately, not much interesting popping up. But I did decide to nab a couple new G Gundam pieces this past week.
First up, a complete Key Master Setup of Rain from Episode 20, George, Beat the Nightmare! After a little hiccup from some wine, Rain cutely says, "Thanks for the meal!" and awkwardly runs off from George and his butler, Raymond.
This is a complete original scene comprised of the main cel of Rain, the background tent curtain, and Gundam Rose's leg on multiple layers, which are all taped and stuck together, along with the original outdoor background for that scene. Because the cels are all stuck and in the right position, I'm not separating to scan them individually. But the background is actually really pretty on it's own.
The genga that came with it is actually a few frames later, as Rain runs away.
Haven't been able to source the Domon cel yet, and it has a bit of line loss, but don't really care, because look at that awesomely intense Shining Finger frame! This genga matches, and also looks great, with it's burning aura that tells me to grasp victory.

Forgot to post this here yesterday, but as an early Christmas gift to myself, picked up this awesome cel of Batman, autographed by the late, great Kevin Conroy. This cel comes from the Killer Croc episode, Sideshow. As Batman is fighting Croc on top of a train early in the episode, he points out that Croc is filled with sedatives, which have been shot into his arm. The background is just a photocopy, but matching the actual scene.
And if anything else, this cel allows me to do this now:

Suppose I should finally get around to posting the other new cels I got a few weeks ago.
Here is Mireille Bouquet, my first cel from the anime Noir. While all the assassinating in the show might not be everyone's cup of tea, I thought it had some beautiful animation and I loved the soundtrack when I first watched it years and years ago.
This frame of Mireille comes from Episode 17, Return to Corsica. It's unobstructed from a separate stone layer here, coming from a scene where she is taking cover from sniper fire. Shortly after finding out the truth about her parents being members of Les Soldats.
*EDIT* Whoops, forgot I had the matching sketch to clean up before I posted this. ^^; That is edited into the post now. */EDIT*

You better run, Charles! Don’t you know who I am? I’m the Juggernaut cel! Ok, so it’s not exactly 100% from a certain 15-year old meme video that I will refrain from posting and directly quoting, for those who prefer I keep things a little clean around here. ^^;
But my first cel from X-Men: The Animated Series is the Juggernaut! I actually have 2 more to go with this, but I’ll post them later on.
The cel of the Juggernaut is from the episode, The Juggernaut Returns, while the background is from a couple episodes later, The Cry of the Banshee. The background is the actual original background painting and it’s cel line artwork. And this background can be seen in that infamous video. So it really fits pretty well together, even if the cel doesn’t come from the same episode.

Finally got me a Gargoyles cel! A great group shot with Goliath, Brooklyn, Lexington and Broadway. Finally can say I have a cel from all the Disney Afternoon shows that meant something to me as a kid.
Again, it’s framed, so it’s not the cleanest scan behind glass, but it will do.

It’s not a cel, but it’s the next best thing. Just acquired this full body production sketch of Goliath from Gargoyles, to knock one more Disney Afternoon piece off the want list. This one comes from the Season 2 episode, Heritage.
Posted on Twitter yesterday evening, but didn’t take the time to source it first. However, now I know it comes from early in the episode. After the sun has set and they break free from their stone form, this pose is part of a slight pan as Goliath, Angela and Bronx all wake up. Most of him isn’t actually in the camera frame in the scene, despite it looking like it would focus on his upper half from this sketch:
By the time the camera pans up and zooms out, his arms, face and pose have totally changed position, although the legs stay close to the same:
“The world is not always as we might wish. What humans don’t understand they fear. And what they fear, they often seek to destroy...”
This is another one that came already professionally framed, so at full view, it’s a little blurrier, as I scanned it through the glass. But not too noticeable in smaller tumblr view.
Man, I loved this show when I was a kid. I remember in high school, I had a religion teacher who had a Gargoyles cel in his classroom and was super into it. So, to finally have something, especially such a great complete image of Goliath, just makes me smile.

Been looking for a good Trigun cel of Vash for a long time, and not just because of recent animation news. But I think that timing helped lead to a few of them popping up, so I grabbed this one as soon as I saw it. It’s in awesome condition, and just a really great close up head shot of both Vash and Knives!
This cel comes from the series finale, Episode 26, Under The Sky So Blue. In this flashback scene about 130 years in the past, young Vash and Knives come across a Seeds ship that is rationing water to people. They observe on the cliff above it. A guy tries to cut the line and hog the water for himself. The scene causes Knives to tell Vash how pathetic and selfish humans are, so he begins to overload one of the giant lightbulb-like Plants, which causes even more panic below.
In this frame, Vash grabs him before yelling at him, “What are you doing?!” Then Knives comes out of his sadistic trance, stops it, brushes Vash aside and walks away.

Let’s play another round of have I posted this cel that I got and scanned months ago!
No I haven’t? OK. Then I will.
Here’s my second Ronin Warriors cel, with a great close up of the tears of Ryo of the Wildfire. Although I’m sorry, his eyes aren’t little Among Us characters to make the emotion really come out.

Megaman Production Art Scan of th...thank you for holding. Your pageviews are important to us...
While I’m still in limbo of waiting to see if my old hard drive is salvageable, and still in the process of acclimating to a new computer/getting things set up, I appreciate your patience during my somewhat silence.
As a test to get my scanners set up and reconnected, I went ahead and rescanned this Charge Man cel from the Megaman 8 intro. When I first got it, I was too afraid to try to separate the sketch from the cel. But that was years ago, and now I am more comfortable carefully pulling them apart, without too much damage to the sketch. So, this is the first time I have publicly posted the sketch underneath for this piece.
I have learned that a new computer with like 4 times the memory sure does make things run so much smoother than I was used to, after 11ish years. But I can’t get Photoshop Elements 6 to run on Windows 11, so my usual way of scanning and touchup will be no more. I don’t know how comfortable I am using Clip as my photo editing software, as I am to using it for my art, but I had to this time around.

Megaman Production Art Scan of the Day #459:
Archie Mega Man Issue #52 Pg. 14 Inked Comic Page
I said Scan of the Day was on hiatus until after the contest results, but this is a new scan, and it is a day today, so...guess I’ll make this a post anyhow!
What’s this? An inked page not done by Gary Martin? Just picked up this page from the final issue of Worlds Unite, inked and signed by Jim Amash.
While on this inked version, it sure does look like the virus head of Sigma (Sigma-0 as it’s referred to in-comic) is popping in to surprise Wily, Robotnik and Xander, it’s actually a portal into the past in which the soon to be Mr. X fires and takes out Sigma to stop this whole crossover from happening:

New pair of G Gundam cels with matching genga.
First up, a shocked Rain from Episode 18, Steal the Secret! Scheme of the Beautiful Warriors! Chibodee’s girls have their guns drawn on Rain as they download and steal some data on the Shining Gundam. After throwing a flash grenade to blind her, Rain turns here to see them getting away, before chasing after the quartet:
Domon’s cel comes from Episode 20, George, Beat the Nightmare! In the final scene of the episode, Domon says that he doesn’t understand how his Super Mode activated, and it isn’t controlled easily. “So the important thing is that I continue training...” And then the dramatic sword pose before the final pan out:

Happy 34th Mega Man!
Wasn’t sure what to really post this year, so I went with fully scanning this page from the 4th issue of the Archie comic (drawn by Spaz and inked by Gary Martin), as I slowly update all my old phone photos into better scans of these inked pages. It was just a great page, with all of the original Robot Masters appearing, the wholesome handshake and Guts bearhug at the bottom.
I remember how excited everyone was when the comic first came out, with the promise of Spaz’s great art direction throughout that first arc. As we all wait now for what’s next for the Blue Bomber, hopefully that same sense of awe and optimism can come back within the next year, leading up to the 35th anniversary.
Fight, Megaman! For everlasting peace!
