Note
Putting up a giant billboard in the middle of the Mirrorlight Promenade that just says "Biblical references are not Light's aesthetic, you guys all made that up collectively because you associate the concept of light with God". I lose a year off my life every time someone on the forums says the light ancient should've been a Seraphim (I died 3 years ago).

[ID: Digital cel-shaded Flight Rising fanart. A spiral and an undertide nap together in the Mirrorlight Promenade. The spiral is draped over the much larger undertide's neck. The undertide's body is in a pool that reflects a vine-covered garden wall. End ID]
A noodle on top of a larger noodle.
I was having trouble deciding where to put them, but then the Lair Location Expansion happened : D

Lair Location Banners and Dividers - Post 1 of 5
[Post 1] [Post 2] [Post 3] [Post 4] [Post 5]
Decided to do a set of banners and dividers based on the lair location banner images that would match in style my sets of Coliseum Dividers and Scene Dividers. As new lair location banners get added to Flight Rising, they’ll get added to this set of photosets.
When linking from these images, make sure you’ve clicked on an image in the photoset and are doing your right click -> copy image link from the full size (640 pixel width) images, not from the downsized dashboard images. You may also need to edit the extension from .pnj to .png for linked images to appear correctly. You are also welcome to copy these images and host them somewhere else if you find that more convenient. When attributing these images (not required) please link back to the first post.

Fan Dragon Month Series One: Alice in Wonderland
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day Eleven: The Sacrifices
A bonus day for the Alice in Wonderland series! These dragons are based on the song Alice of the Human Sacrifice, which is either going to make you super nostalgic or super confused, and that’s ok, here’s the video I remember.
Since there’s five dragons today, I’ve put the Scry IDs in the alt text, and the lore is still under the cut.
Legion arrived in Wonderland shortly after The Red Rebellion. She grew up in The Scarred Wasteland amongst a clan of battle-hardened Wildclaws and Serthis who lived solely for the chance at a taste of glory. Her willingness to cut down The Card Soldiers with little to no hesitation seemed promising at first, but her sights quickly became set on any creature who dared to question her. She has been imprisoned for a long, long time, a nigh impenetrable wall of thorns concealing her deep within the woods of Wonderland…
♠️♠️♠️
Caspian came second. A talented bard from The Shifting Expanse, the citizens of Wonderland hoped that his music might soothe the soul of the savage queen. But cowardice held his heart tightly, and he began using his new-found fame as an excuse to postpone his destiny. Late one night, he was struck down by a crazed fan, dying before he could ever get close to finishing his mission…
♦️♦️♦️
Florence’s arrival brought a violent storm with her, having fallen straight through the center of The Twisting Crescendo. Finding herself in a destroyed village, the young dragoness decided she would stay and help rebuild in exchange for information about the world she’d fallen into. But things quickly took a turn for the worst when she learned about The Sky Warrior Prophecy. Florence became consumed by visions of grandeur, visions that would eventually twist her mind until she finally snapped, becoming a copy of the very thing she’d been sent to destroy…
♣️♣️♣️
The next to arrive were a set of twins. One moment, Cadence and Fabian were were frolicking through the crumbling pillars of The Mirrorlight Promenade, and the next, they were in an unknown rose garden, hiding quietly underneath a bush. No one really knows what became of them…
♥️♥️♥️

No outfits for these guys because I only decided to share them last minute. If I do make them outfits, I’ll be sure to post the link in the replies!
Caspian is probably my favorite scry ever, I LOVE his colors
Fabian was originally named Foalan, a reference to the main character of Kathryn Lasky’s Wolves of the Beyond series
As a bonus, here’s a quick scry I made for The Jabberwock because someone asked for it:

For lore asks!
Do any of the Blackblades have an immutable code of honor? something that even a grand offer of coin couldn't make them betray? Have any of them ever taken a fee for something that they simply couldn't follow through on?
If Ashen were to be restored to divinity tomorrow, would he be forgiving of former followers who weren't responsible for his loss, or vengeful over the experience of being forgotten and abandoned to the sands of time?
Ayy thank you for these great questions! I'll put most of it under the cut.
Code of honor
The Blackblades have an unwritten and immutable code of honor! Here are some of the rules:
If another Blackblade is facing danger from either city/desert creatures or a vengeful employer, you’re honor-bound to aid them. You only cut your losses and run if those in danger aren’t a Blackblade. Employers may get themselves eaten by eldritch abominations or old gods but friends cutthroat mercenaries do not let friends cutthroat mercenaries perish to scary creatures.
You may accept a job that pits you against another Blackblade, but in the event of physical conflict, you will not maim them or deliver lethal blows. Direct assassination contracts or the like are off-limits.
No touching eldritch artifacts. The employer will always show up in person or provide a team that handles this stuff.
No contract that demands you spend more than a day in the eldritch city is worth it. Remember what happened to Thorn, Whisper and Hemlock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is also a quiet agreement that if Thorn, Whisper and Hemlock warp more than they already have, the rest will put them out of their misery.
Anything the Order of the Sacred Tomb (Lazarus, Jarah, Ishmerai) guards in their underground catacombs is off-limits, no matter the price.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You always alert others to the presence of lawmen or those who bring their own protection, you cannot be bribed into silence.
Fee for something they could not follow through on:
Occasionally they do that! Two examples:
Yerah was hired by a stupidly rich Pearlcatcher from Mirrorlight Promenade to retrieve an artifact from the eldritch city. She took payment up front and promptly pretended she died (got Sahar to write back to her employer and attached a bloodied tuft of her mane). Never set a foot in the city, which is the only way to handle those kinds of risky jobs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caillan, Andrus and Sarik accepted a job to escort an archaeology team to a promising Second Age site, and to protect the camp and supplies for the duration of the excavation. On day two, their stirrings awoke Mirage, an old goddess who “died” when the seas retreated—this was roughly when Ashen was in his prime. Mirage was not happy about being woken. The gang fled, most of the archaeologists made it out, but their supplies weren’t so lucky. The archaeologists wanted a refund, and instead of providing that, the gang ran for the hills and lay low for a while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ashen’s restoration to divinity:
At first, Ashen entertained thoughts of retribution. To him, even those who had nothing to do with the betrayal were guilty by association because they left him just the same. If they returned to him when he was weak, he’d forgive them, they’d seen the errors of their ways.
But the years passed and no one came. The fires of vengeance burned out just like his own, and a deep, aching loneliness took their place. This is where he is now, alone and forgotten. If he was restored to his former glory and his people returned, he’d forgive them. Out of fear of being abandoned again, he may just end up a bit too forgiving.

In the clan territory, there is a dry spot high on the cliffs where few grasses grow, studded with markers of wood and stone. When a clan member dies, their body is specially prepared with herbs and oils and left out for their deity to claim them. All bodies are often allowed a night here for a chance to be taken to the realm of the Windsinger, leaving not a trace behind. If they remain the next morning, their bones are gathered and sent out to the ocean, or else buried or cremated as their will sees fit. It is at this humble grave site that the gravekeeper does her duties, laying flowers and gifts at each dragon's marker on appropriate days.
Corona II Mermesa Heliones gives a dry chuckle at your wide eyes. Her worn sandals and dusty gowns disguise her old life in the Mirrorlight Promenade, she says, where she was once queen consort before escaping her king.  "Consorts were little more than concubines with pedigree, discarded by when new young ladies enter the courts. My children were nowhere near the succession, not when the sons and daughters of the first Corona lived. Still, exile is better that then a ‘mysterious death’ to tide over the introduction of Corona III. I got lucky, truly." She looks down at her fine-boned fingers with a wistful smile, clasping them together in prayer.
"Cloud Brush is my home, and in spite of the past I am happy. I spend my days with my friends in exchange for these little rituals. There are some things about the dead and dying that we Old Light folk know best." EXTRA: - loves sunbeam figs - she makes a mean olive and feta pie

FR Username/Numbers: Hey it's me again--Avalonian #11466!
Basic Clan Lore:
This time, Riot would be traveling to Light's territory--somewhere deeply hidden in the woods near the Mirrorlight Promenade...or so she's been told. She's only been given a very cryptic map, you see: but she's smart, she'll figure it out right? And when she does, she'll finally emerge into a clearing boasting beautiful waterfalls that seem to lead somewhere. Finding the entrance may prove a bit difficult, but there will be eyes on her always, to ensure she doesn't run into something she shouldn't. And when she travels down, down, down, she'll encounter a door that will finally open to her true destination: The Archivists' Legion headquarters. An incredibly secretive group, their name is all it suggests: a select group of warriors and students alike that seek one thing: rare and elusive texts from all areas of Sornieth. From a scrap of hand-written parchment to a library full of scrolls, every bit of knowledge is sacred in the eyes of the Legion. No matter what one may want to learn, surely it can be found here...along with some things that perhaps you weren't aware you needed to know.
Plans For Dragon:
Within the Archivists' Legion headquarters, there is a library unlike many have seen, or will ever see! Entrance is invitation only, and Riot's lust for knowledge won't have gone unnoticed long. Wereth has eyes on the ground, in the sky, perhaps even in the water, and he will have been awaiting her quite eagerly!
Here, it is likely that Wereth will offer her more options than she may know what to do with. There are those that study, those that fight, and those that do both--but then there are others. Others who dwell in shadow even in the daytime, playing the role of all these things that he offers. He has heard things of Riot, you see? Interesting things, things that could change the flow of fate within his beloved home. The Legion is all that he loves, and Riot could really shake things up. Even if she may be confused for a while, I imagine this in itself may be a tempting offer--because it comes with a free pass to everything she needs to find the one she is destined to protect. And when Wereth smiles, she'd be able to see this means...something else...too.
Getting used to things (stairs...so many stairs...) might be a bit difficult, but I have the distinct feeling Riot would ease into things well. There aren't many Plague dragons within the Legion, and some voices and gazes will be unkind. But believe it or not, Plague dragons are beloved within its ranks: by both Wereth, and the highest up in the Legion's army. Meeting Sabre will ensure her of this, and Emblem is a sight for sore eyes for many a young dragon needing an ear to bend. And it is with Emblem that she may meet two very interesting folks under his protection...the Legion's oracles.
Which would quickly teach her that the Archivists' Legion has two deities that many pray to. Efah and Eron. Dark and Light. The Jailer and the Hero. But neither as they may seem on the surface. Deeper research, deeper than Riot would ever believe at first, would have her reading countless tomes on their feats. Some believe they're simply tall tales--but that's just fine, everyone needs something to believe in. Some believe in them wholeheartedly, as many believe in the elemental gods themselves--this is fine as well, because their courage and love brings strength to their children in times of need.
But what if, someone mentions one day...there were another? Shhh. Be quiet. Let no one hear you speak of it. Why? Prayer to this deity is forbidden, because it has lead many dragons astray in pursuit of something that may not even exist.
But, he does. Oh, he does--known as Ezhno by no one but his attendants and a handful of dragons who existed countless years ago who lived to tell tale of something they saw the day of a horrible event that saw the Gladekeeper and Flamecaller at each others' throats. A figure standing in a tree...whispers dark and rich...and something. Something, something, something, they will tell Riot. So many rumors, so many things to discuss...if only they could.
While Efah and Eron have their oracles...Ezhno does not! One hasn't arisen yet who can hear his voice deep inside the Amber Temple in the Blacksand Annex. Or...did it just arrive at the Legion?
Eventually, I believe Riot would do whatever it took to learn about him. Even while believing she'd never know his name, the pursuit for ANY scrap of knowledge would lead her to room after room in the Legion's libraries. This is not going to come easily, or without cost, but there are those who would actually see her succeed no matter what (and that does include Wereth!).
And then, the dreams would begin. I imagine even for her, they would be frightening: the Amber Temple is hideously hostile to outsiders, and damn near impossible to navigate should someone make it past its guard to get inside. Flashes of long corridors. Dark flames in darker rooms. Eyes. So many eyes. All orange, but somehow all...different? Some soft. Some hard. Some so hellbent on finding the dreamer that Riot may wake with a pounding heart because those eyes wanted to kill. But she would never be able to tell anyone. Rumors spread very quickly in the Legion, unfortunately. But that's okay, it just gives her a shred more information to go on every single time. And she will find out what's happening, she swears it.
Headcanon Riot is built much like her sisters--with muscles she didn't know she had being tested by the Legion so she could keep up with their raiding outings! The longer this went on, the better I believe she'd be able to hone energy into her prosthetics, perhaps even using it for her own gain. She would never be expected to fight for her own--the Legion would give it more than willingly for her, but she would be more than willing to gather it for herself. Can't let the others have ALL the fun all the time, and it would most likely make her feel quite close to her siblings and parents.
Man, somehow she got my chronic pain. Sorry, lady. :') But having a prosthetic leg and prosthetic tail portion would most likely manifest this way due to some musculoskeletal trauma! It's absolutely not slowing her down though, she has stuff to do, damn it. (Although the Legion would sit her down and force some hot tea into her hands from time to time. RELAX, Riot! You need to relax!) To go along with this, she has to be reminded to eat. Riot. Riot, eat--no not some granola, eat your dinner gosh darn it. You have time, I promise.
Her tattoos would be visible in all forms, a complete and total must for the love and respect she has for her parents. Even if she did have a strained relationship with her sisters for a bit would lead her to collecting some trinkets to honor them as well. Earrings for her necromancer sister, the most beautiful smelling candles dotting her room for another, all to hold her regard to them close. Speaking of which...
Tumblr media
This is my plan for her outfit so far! Your iteration of it was gorgeous, but I put a little Archivists' Legion twist on it. >:] I'd be getting her an accent to pull it all together of course, but I'm not quite sure what to go for yet!
The song I've been heavily inspired by for her is Black Moon by Cellar Darling!
Hearts beat fast as the moon turns black, and the trees catch fire from the bleeding sky. Stars are fading and the sun won't show, all their hearts are beating as the moon turns black...
Intended Payment: As mentioned before, I'll have some gems whipped up for you as thanks! As well as some little gifty-gifts a la Archivists' Legion. Souvenirs, souvenirs!!
PIGLET APPLICATION #03 RIOT THE RUSTWORN ZEALOT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
These Piglets are for lore clans with a tumblr presence (sideblog, FR posting on mainblogs, etc you simply have to be a lore clan who engages with the community here on tumblr.)
Other players with their siblings (and myself with their parents) will be not only welcome to but encouraged to write interclan letters/in character messages to their siblings, and you'll have to be okay with everything that comes with that (On-Site DMs, the potential of a message going unanswered/etc) I would also appreciate if you ping me for the stuff you do with them because I want to see what they get up to <3
If you win one of the siblings, please refrain from applying for another, this is so everyone interested gets an opportunity and a fair shake at taking one of the girls home!
If you're the selected winner, the dragon is yours to do what you please with! (Regene, change species, rename, change gender identities/pronoun preferences, etc) I ask only that you have a lore/character reason for breed or name changes, as they'll be connected to a wider group of dragons that would need to know these things (What kind of dragon their sibling has become, What to call them in letters, etc) and if you can keep them a modern breed so they can keep their cleavers, well that'd just be nice for their old man Pig.
Please honor the basic lore of the dragon you win, you're welcome to rewrite/reinterpret the lore they arrive with, but please don't eliminate that history entirely, since they'll be interwoven with other clans/players!
[and a big thank you to Khadjin for reminding me I never mentioned this yet!] my lore deviates pretty substantially from site lore. however every aspect can be explained within the context of the site, please don't feel like you have to adopt my headcanons to participate in these!- my "Lesser Gods" are nothing more than magically afflicted/overcharged spirits or magically mutated dragons created in a reactor explosion somewhere in Lightning and some timeloop silliness, and the 'Gaps' are highly concentrated leylines caused by this incident. the eleven gods of sornieth remain the only true gods in my lore much like the site on the whole!- the Piglets and their parents simply lived under the affliction of spirits, cults, and mutated dragons and contextualized them as "Gods" the very same way we create urban myth/legends. While they would know of The Host and the Gaps because of the direct effect both have had on their parents, they are not required to have continued to believe in them as "Higher beings" and can have learned in their time away from their family that these things are likely, little more than the arcane gone haywire.
BLANK APPLICATION
Please copy/paste and fill this out in a Reblog here on tumblr or send it to me through my submit box here so I can keep track of things on a per-dragon basis for the course of the 48-hours each application will be active!
FR Username/Numbers: Basic Clan Lore: (just a general description of the lore/area of your clan you intend to place this hatchling in!) Plans For Dragon: (A little description of any of your ideas, headcanons, story beats, etc you're thinking of for the dragon you're applying for! This can be anything you've got in mind, scries, outfits, etc, feel free to go as big or as little as you want, I wanna see what's going on in your head!) Intended Payment: (These dragons will be PWYW, but I need everyone to acknowledge they're not free, so whatever you're planning on paying/trading for them, even if you change your mind when the time comes, stick something here.)
RINGLEADER'S HEADCANONS
These are just some smaller lore bits and pieces you're welcome to use or disregard for each child, things that I couldn't fit into the bios in a way that made sense. much like the example outfit photo up-top, this is for fun or stuff to help get ideas flowing, if you're stuck!
Riot is almost completely magically null, and her prosthetics run on the magic she harvests from her prey, or from the larger pockets of it around Sornieth. When she left home, Pig and Sow ensured she had enough filled cores to keep her leg and tail functioning for a few months, as they are both well aware she was already not exactly the most capable combatant.
While her relationship with her sisters is somewhat strained after an early life being spent teased for being "unlucky" they've all grown beyond this, and Riot doesn't hold it against them- she's the only one to lose something important in their Godfall, after all.
A scholar at her core, Riot is a seeker of intelligence as much as she is of her charge, flourishing in the pursuit of knowledge of all forms, she has a functional awareness of most everything, from invention to incantation, and is always seeking more alongside the "God" her charge calls her to.
While some of her siblings have chosen to paint their faces in honor of their parents, Riot instead wears her family loyalty through tattoos imbued with magic- the blood constantly staining her parents' claws and tail marked into scales as a glowing grasp on her three remaining feet.
THIS APPLICATION IS OPEN FROM 3:30 PM DECEMBER 6TH, 2024, TO 3:30 PM DECEMBER 8TH, 2024. REBLOGS AFTER THIS TIME WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE RUNNING.
And here's the pinglist! (Starting to think maybe you can only ping so many people at once?)

HATCHERY LORE
Boutique lore! [columns][nextcol]It was a warm summer evening, nearing sunset, when Berlie found himself roaming the Sunbeam Ruins. He was on a voyage, traveling the lands in hopes of taking the first steps towards finally achieving a dream he'd had since childhood: owning and running a boba shop! The ruins had been the target destination for his voyage ever since hearing how busy and bustling the area got during the summer, especially on the day of the summer solstice. It would be an amazing area for business and he would be able to conduct research on the dragons that passed through his shop, getting to learn more about them and their customs. Since he was a boy, Berlie had always had a fascination for researching dragons, the different breeds, and how customs varied between them. He'd also always loved drinking, making, and experimenting with boba, so why not put himself in a position where he could do it all? [/columns]

[columns]
Noticing that sunset would be upon him in a matter of minutes, Berlie decided to make his way towards the Mirrorlight Promenade. He'd heard stories of how beautiful it was at sunrise and sunset and wanted to experience it for himself. As Berlie sat, boba in hand, watching the sunset and all the reflections and refractions of the Promenade, he thought he noticed something moving in the corner of his vision. The creatures in this area weren't known to be hostile towards humans, so what's the worst that could happen, right? Before much deliberation could occur, his curiosity took over and he decided to investigate. As he inched closer, Berlie noticed the tip of a clay-colored tail covered in taupe fur, with the rest of the creature hidden behind a column within the ruins. [nextcol] [/columns]
[columns]
[nextcol]
He recognized the tail structure almost immediately. He'd done extensive research on the breed and it happened to be his favorite of the ancients. As he knew that Aethers were the more curious and experimental breed of the bunch, he figured he could lure it out with his boba. So, he placed it near the column and began his wait. Just as he suspected, it didn't take very long. Only seconds later, the furry head of a hatchling Aether emerged from behind the column. Berlie had never seen one in person, and anyone who could see him would be able to tell just from his expression. Berlie was in awe. The dragon looked just as it had in the textbooks, albeit slightly larger than the pages made it seem. The hatchling inched closer to the cup of boba, just as awe-stricken at the sight of Berlie and the unknown substance. The hatchling cautiously craned its head toward the straw and took a sip. [/columns]

[columns]
It was obvious that the hatchling enjoyed his first experience with what Berlie thought to be the best drink in existence. After taking his initial sip, the Aether looked up at Berlie for no more than three seconds before returning to the drink and finishing the entire thing. Although the last of Berlie's boba was just stolen, he knew it was worth it for the opportunity to witness something this extraordinary. The Aether drank the boba with no knowledge of what it was or what it could do to him, a risk that Berlie was convinced no other breed would have thought to take. Berlie thought Sagittarius would be a fitting name for such an adventurous creature. After asking the Aether and receiving what Berlie interpreted as a yip of approval, it was settled. From then on, Sagittarius followed Berlie wherever he went. Whether it was for the companionship or the boba, Berlie didn't know, but either way there were no complaints on his part. Berlie decided that it would be a good idea to open his boba shop within the ruins, with Sagittarius as his co-founder. From that day on, Berlie and Sagittarius were the best of friends and spent their time creating and experimenting with new and crazy flavors of boba, selling it to the dragons that passed through, and becoming popular among those in the area. Berlie was able to follow his dream of making boba and researching dragons, and better yet, he got to do it with an amazing companion![nextcol][/columns]

1, 12, and 20 for Toscanini, 5, 11, and 16 for Bing!
Tumblr media
Toscanini!
Do they believe in ghosts? Have they ever experienced anything unexplained?
Of course - you can't live in Square Toe and not believe in ghosts. The darn things are everywhere. All you can do is be polite and pretend not to notice. His closest personal experience with the supernatural came on one of his first nights performing, when Porphyria and Ripper decided to check out what was going on. Irving didn't come (he never enters the actual town) but just the sight of Porphy transparently grinning from the back of the bar was enough to make even him almost lose his cool.
12. What’s their weirdest or most irrational fear?
So, Toscanini's not afraid of bugs. He doesn't like them, but he's not afraid of them. What he is afraid of, however, is the idea that a bug will crawl into the end of his trumpet and he won't notice and end up inhaling it. He's fully aware this is irrational and isn't going to happen, but it doesn't stop him being meticulous when it comes to pre- and post-show cleaning. Just in case.
20. What family traditions do they remember from their childhood?
His music! Everyone in his family played an instrument. Most of the kids didn't keep it up after they left home, but Toscanini did and even made it his career.
Tumblr media
Bing!
5. Do they like spending holidays alone, with family, or at parties with friends?
At parties with friends! Unfortunately, that's not always possible on the road, so Bing's had to settle for parties with strangers more than once. But that's okay! Who doesn't love a party?
11. If they suddenly had a whole day free to themselves, what would they do with it?
Probably the same thing they do for work - attend performances, make connections, schmooze. Bing is incapable of turning himself off. The difference is he'd sleep in first.
16. What makes them nostalgic?
Home-cooked food, especially warm fruitbread, rice with fresh vegetables, and pastries that are still sticky and soft. He doesn't cook himself, but it always reminds him of home.

Lore Dump: Umbrata, The Family that Constantly Makes Their Problems Everyone Else’s Problems
I finally got g1s for all the relevant lore dergs so here we goooo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arik and Kiera Umbrata, my progens and the first relevant generation
Arik was the founder and (up until recently) current ruler of Umbra, a thriving city-state between the Wispwillow Grove and the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. He ruled with an iron fist, treating his people well but keeping a heavy focus on military to the point that many who have been there simply call it “the Fortress”. He was killed in battle while assisting an ally near the border between Plague and Arcane.  Kiera was a queen known for her gentleness, being rather frail even for a fae. She was a religious figure for the city, taking the role of a priestess of the Shadowbinder; she was known for her ability to see the spirits of those who have passed, and to speak with those who did not want to let go of their time with the living. She died of complications soon after laying her two eggs; they were left to be raised by their nursemaid. Now, her spirit still roams the tangled wood, helping the dead reach their rest and helping the living find their way to safety. They had two children: Yuki (name change pending, open to suggestions) and Cassiopiea. Yuki Umbrata and his descendant
Tumblr media
Yuki, the eldest, took the throne after his father’s death. He turned Umbra into a theocracy, letting his zealous faith in the Shadowbinder guide his rule. He exalted dragons to her regularly, hoping to gain her favor, and as part of his coronation transformed himself into a Nocturne. While Arik had kept this people in mind when making decisions, Yuki saw them as an afterthought to his religious and military ambitions; he had gained such a desire for power that even his heirs were seen as a threat. This would be the downfall of his city and the cause of his death.

Vivus is Yuki’s firstborn son, born to the king and his head assassin, as ambitious as his father and cunning as his mother. Yuki saw this ambition, and ordered Vivus’ mother to slip him a poison, upon pain of her own torture and death; instead, she crafted a masterful work of both magic and alchemy: a poison which would at once kill him and bind him to a spell that would keep his body in stasis. However, if he did not regularly consume a specific potion, his body would still decay. When he awoke to his new undead state, he fled to the Scarred Wasteland in hopes that Plague would offer a solution to his new predicament; there he allied with the shade entity known as Mortua. He would offer her power and a physical form, in exchange for her residence in his mind.  Mad with power and Shade, Vivus et Mortua returned to Umbra, destroying the city and murdering Yuki. He did not stop there, however; he wished to destroy anyone he associated with his father, and so turned his baleful gaze on his aunt’s city as well.
Cassiopiea Luciata and her family
Tumblr media
Cassiopiea Luciata was the younger child, and so ineligible for the throne of Umbra. She greatly disagreed with her brother’s philosophy, and his actions soured her to the Shadowbinder and to Shadow as a whole. Powerless to do anything about her brother, she took to the city’s library; there she met their archivist, Deo, and the two fell deeply for each other. In secret, they planned their exodus to Light, bringing with them any Umbran residents who wished to leave the city. After a short conflict, Yuki let them go, on the condition that she sever herself from the family name and never return. She did so, renaming herself and her family Luciata, establishing the city-state of Lucia near the Mirrorlight Promenade.
She and Deo had three daughters: Adessa, Serana, and Sia. Deo, Adessa, and Serana were killed in the destruction of Lucia by Vivus; thinking Sia had perished as well, for years Cassiopiea thought she was the only survivor of her family. She wears mourning jewelry blackened in the flames of their funeral pyres, and since her city’s destruction has wandered Sornieth with no home and no purpose.

Deo was Cassiopiea’s husband: archivist in the library of Umbra and prince of Lucia. Kind to a fault and smart as a whip, it was in part due to his savviness that Lucia was able to gain the support of the surrounding nobility in its infancy as a city. He and Cassiopiea ruled together, and he maintained a growing library within the palace walls.
After Lucia’s destruction, his body was found curled around his childrens’, defending them to the last.

Sia Luciata, daughter of Cassiopiea and Deo, survived Lucia’s destruction unbeknownst to her parents....and thanks to the Shade. Mortua, realizing that Vivus was becoming too unstable to remain her host for long, had sought a backup of sorts, and latched onto Sia. She awoke in the ashen rubble of her home, with her father’s wings surrounding her, now cold and lifeless; disoriented, she followed the faint summons in the back of her head to venture back toward shadow.
Once she reached the Tangled Wood, however, she was met with a familiar spirit. Kiera, recognizing her kin and her affliction, led the hatchling Sia away from Umbra and away from Mortua. Although Kiera could not leave the Tangled Wood, she led Sia into the path of a dragon who could help her: Gerda, an exiled Gaoler, who would go on to teach Sia magic that would freeze her Shade in its tracks.
A piece of Mortua still exists within Sia, but she is determined that the entity will die with her at her natural end. She will not be like her cousin.
Other notable dragons to the Umbratas’ story:
Tumblr media
Philautia, former nursemaid for the Umbrata children in Umbra and one of the few survivors of the city’s destruction.
Tumblr media
Calemvir Solaris, patriarch of the noble family who sponsored Lucia’s construction: he has lived longer than anyone can count, and is thought to be immortal. He can neither confirm nor deny.
Tumblr media
Gerda, exiled from the Southern Ice Fields for reasons she will not disclose. She encounters Sia at the border of the Tangled Wood, and takes her under her wing.

SUBJECT: EMP-002
Purportedly a fragment of larger mass separated via magical means, or else the result of some other experiment in Imperial transformation. Received by the Silverwing College on ##/##/## from a dragon-centaur clan near the Mirrorlight Promenade, who confiscated research materials and documentation from the only surviving member of the rogue science team responsible for this abomination. The scientist apparently escaped and fled before the arrival of a Silverwing representative.
Written records suggest this fragment was extracted from main body on ##/##/##, and that a second near-complete fragment extracted from the same body died within hours. Plague heritage suggests this one is innately more resistant and adaptable, which may explain how it has remained alive so far.
A diagram of the original beast found in the confiscated material suggests it had up to nine functional limbs and four heads, three of which were correctly positioned at the front of the body with one other sprouting from the mangled collarbones of the combined dragons. Scars and lesions along this fragment's body suggest it represented the head on the right side of the mass. The separation process appears to have healed a number of these wounds but left others open, though measures have been made to treat them while it was in stasis upon arrival.
Clumsy patterns of movement suggest the subject has not yet registered the loss of its excess limbs, though it has all four expected of a regular Imperial. It barely notices most who approach but seems to "bicker" with non-existent figures around its own head and shoulders, perhaps still looking for the other three heads visible in the diagram. Any evidence of the personality this individual had before their death and transformation is yet to be observed.
There is evidence of both internal and external malformation, and wound patterns which suggest the original body- prior to aggregation with the mass- died in combat. Attempts to trace a possible clan of origin for any of these fragments have been futile. Subject is currently being overseen by Senior Warlock Sebas, who is attempting to put it back into stasis before it becomes a threat. Subject will be stored in the Underkeep heart, the near-inaccessible chambers which have been partially flooded to bar access for most individuals and allow the Senior Warlock to study his charge.
