Aspire To Create Pleasant, Soothing, and Pollution-Free Landscapes?
Are you enthusiastic to contribute towards a green and pollution-free Earth? Indeed it is a great step towards saving our planet. There are several ways to contribute to the cause of sustaining life. Human beings have come a long way from the stone age to the modern era and their every action, mostly lead to the deterioration of land, water and polluting the air. In modern times, you can easily fulfil your desire by using the most advanced landscaping solutions in the form of grass pavers also known as permeable pavers or porous pavers. These pavers would not only enhance the natural beauty of the landscape but would also help in increasing the water table by allowing rainwater to seep in naturally.
Tumblr media
Grass pavers can create the perfect outdoor space in all seasons, especially in rainy seasons. As it becomes very difficult and risky to walk on muddy and slippery grounds. These are environment-friendly as compared to asphalt, concrete, and traditional pavers. These will help the environment by conserving water and also accommodating the water cycle. These are just like the pieces of the puzzle laid on the land and give space to grow grass in between to provide a green, and the anti-skid surface beneath the feet. Using these, any outdoor space can be converted into a beautiful mini garden and enhance the beauty of the property.
Paving with grass pavers means a perfect blend of greenery with sturdy walkways. This combination reinforces the parking areas, driveways and outdoors that are put to high traffic thus bearing the load along with maintaining the greenery that the beautiful grass brings along. Maintaining a parking area with grass pavers are permeable and keeping the area moist is far better than using concrete which is impermeable and dry. Using grass pavers keeps the place cool as well on hot days.
These eco-friendly pavers need very little maintenance and are very economical. Once laid properly these will last for a significant period without any further cost of repairs as these are less likely to develop cracks and also disperse the weight of vehicles. The aesthetic appeal of grass pavers has increased tremendously in modern times and people are recognising the benefits of these as compared to traditional areas using hard concrete. These green areas also add value to your property.
Now you have a superior and eco-friendly option to help the environment, save money, and add value to your house.
Flooring solutions like interlocking tiles, grass pavers blocks, kerbstones, drain covers, etc. manufactured by trusted companies like Pavers India, are highly durable and can last for more than 20 years. The company offers customised products and after-sales services as well. You can contact them for premium quality flooring tiles and pavers blocks at the best industry prices or explore their website to know more and move ahead to create pleasant, soothing and pollution-free landscapes.

PLANTING FLOOD PROTECTIONS
Tumblr media
PLANTED PATHWAYS When you are planning a new pathway, include some planting in your design. Grass paths are absorbent, but they can rapidly deteriorate into muddy tracks on a route that is used every day, such as one leading to a house door. The soil beneath the grass will soon become compacted in these areas, killing the turfand creating animpermeable surface for water to run off. Where foot traffic is highest, combine hard landscaping materials such as wooden planks or stone pavers with gravel or another absorbent material.
Space the planks or pavers at a comfortable stepping distance from one another and fill in between with the gravel, into which you can plant low-growing or spreading plants including thyme, Mexican fleabane (Erigeron karvinskianus), chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), or houseleeks(Sempervivum). Line your path with larger plants to make a water-absorbent blanket that will prevent run-off.
PARKING SOLUTIONS Front yards often double as parking spaces, but even these can include ribbons of planting between the hard areas needed for car tires. Install tracks made from wood, bricks, or paving, and fill the areas in between with gravel and plants. Low-growing plants that will tolerate the occasional pressure of a car tire running over them include creeping jenny (Lysimachia nummularia), bugle (Ajuga reptans), and thymes such as Thymus serpyllum. A sprinkling of forget-me-nots will add some color in spring and self-seed into the gravel. Water the plants frequently after planting until they are well established.
COLLECTING STORM WATER In yards where rainwater runs off patios or other hard surfaces and pools at the lower end of your plot, consider installing a mini rain garden. This is a depression filled with resilient plants where water can collect during a storm, rather than running off into the road or waterways. The planted area holds the excess water, while the roots create channels that allow it to drain slowly into the soil. Dig a wide, saucer-shaped hole about 18 in (45 cm) deep, or 2 ft (60 cm) deep in clay soils that take longer to drain. Create a berm (lip) about 12 in (30 cm) wide and 4 in (10 cm) high, with some of the excavated soil along the lower edge of the hole to help capture water as it flows down the slope. Partly refill the hole so it forms a slight depression, using a mix of homemade compost, excavated soil, and fine gravel, which will aid drainage. Add plants that are able to tolerate periods of waterlogging as well as drier conditions. Seek professional help if your garden is on a steep slope of more than about 12 percent or 1:8.

If I get the chance to draw some floorplans later I will, but I have a general design for a 7 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3 story house using a mix of old and new school construction and materials. I know that sounds huge but that’s the “if resources become available I will provide for many future generations” house.
The basic design is an “L” shape for the first two floors with the short side omitted on the third. The long side against the hillside with the short side downslope and the first floor a walkout foundation.
The foundation/basement/first floor being made from rubble masonry, several feet thick and able to bear a massive amount of weight. The exterior of the foundation gets thermal insulation and two moisture/vapor barriers. Outside of that is gravel backfill over a french drain to prevent moisture buildup. Starting at the top of the L is the kitchen with a full cooking wood stove against the short wall. Behind it is a heat exchanger for a radiator system on the first floor. An induction cooktop and conventional oven are in an island nearby plus the sink and normal counters/cabinets along the walls. In the center of the first floor is a dining room with a large gaming table with games on shelves on the walls and the staircase. Leading into the bottom of the L is the bathroom and on the offshoot is a bedroom with extra interior insulation and wood paneling. This is for a particular relative that needs to be near the kitchen, have access to the gardens outside, and would want climate control separate from the rest of the house. This is provided by heat pump and mini-split. Outside along this downslope is the patio made from pavers and a dedicated outdoor kitchen (smoker, pizza oven, grill). The three sections of the first floor would be divided by masonry walls with arches buttressing the long upslope wall against future stresses.
The upper floors are timberframe with an exterior shell of a lightweight concrete mix that uses recycled Styrofoam as filler, tapering as it rises. All encased both sides in a vapor barrier again, with thick stucco outside and plaster inside.  The second floor being more or less even with the uphill slope is where you’d find the front door. Again along the short wall is a fireplace, heating radiators for the rest of the floor and with a cooking swing arm. This area is the great room with seating and end tables for entertaining. The middle again has the staircase as well as the library and craft areas. The last leg is similar to the ground floor with a bathroom and guest bedroom over their first floor counterparts. This floor is likely to have its own heat pump and mini-split as well.
The third floor has the master bedroom with two dormer windows and a master bathroom with one dormer. The stair case gets a dormer as well at the landing. then a central hallway with two bedrooms each side with one dormer each. The of the hall is a large bathroom. The brick chimney encases the flues for both the fireplace and wood stove and would feature a coil around each to harness heat for the third floor radiators. It wouldn’t capture as much heat as the first two floors but heat rises from below already and people prefer to sleep with less heat anyway so it should work out. The roof pitch begins just a few feet up sloping the rooms hence the dormers, and allowing a steep enough pitch to help with snow. The current best roof option is fiber cement slate with barriers, foam sheets under, and finally wood panel ceiling. The top floor lacks AC due to the many windows and the natural draft.
Upslope on the property is the garage and shop. Downslope are gardens and chickens. Fruit and nut trees whenever I can put them. As mentioned this would be in the hills preferable along a stream allowing mini hydropower. Most old houses are energy hogs despite their longevity, but these drafts are what removes the moisture that wreaks modern homes. Using an older type layout with modern barriers and window seals, I think the draft can be controlled enough to remove moisture when needed while allowing decent energy conservation the rest of the time.
This is a massive home but if I could pull it off it would be a safe haven for multiple generations to know they have a home as well as a rest for travelling friends.
Hierarchy of my house ideas:
1. The big dream house that would stand for hundreds of years and shelter many future generations of my family. Surrounded by a wide track of land.
2. A modest homestead that can shelter and feed my family until my kids are grown enough to take care of themselves. The place my wife and I would remain once retired.
3. Things I'd settle for temporarily while working towards at least No. 2.
4. Pure survival.

From victory gardens to garage greatness: 5 big jobs to tackle for summer
Summer is here, and that means it’s time to tackle the big outdoor tasks.
The importance of getting work done is especially true in this season of social isolation, when Americans are enjoying their homes’ outdoor spaces more than ever. Outdoor work may require some extra sweat and elbow grease, but these big jobs are a welcome break right now, keeping people busy and outside — and helping them truly appreciate their well-tended green spaces.
For many, outdoor work is a satisfying endeavor, allowing homeowners to take pride in their home and yard, along with the work they put into it, which shows in what people are searching for, posting and sharing online. For example, Pinterest Insights saw an increase of 89% in backyard renovation ideas on their website, along with a whopping jump of 658% in DIY small patio ideas on a budget, and an impressive 528% increase in budget garden inspiration ideas.
Ready to get started on your summer to-do list? Consider adding these big but worthwhile tasks to your roster.
Start a “victory garden”
Given all the questions brought about by COVID-19, many Americans are reigniting the WWII practice of growing their own fruits, vegetables and herbs to give themselves more control over their food supplies. Many produce varieties are easy to grow, and cultivating them at home can ward off unnecessary shopping excursions. “Americans are turning to gardens for food access, food security, food safety and food affordability,” confirms gardening exec Jim Feinson on GardenResearch.com.
Beef up your landscaping
Look over your landscaping layout and determine which parts need trimming, filling in, fertilizing or replacing. If you’re in doubt, many garden centers can draw up plans demonstrating changes or additions that might look more eye-catching. Before getting started, invest in easy-to-use equipment that will make the heavy-duty labor less grueling. Northern Tool + Equipment’s Strongway Steel Jumbo Garden Wagon can handle tough jobs like hauling rocks, pavers or bags of cement; in fact, it can capably pull up to 1,400 pounds of supplies.
Revamp your deck
Does it just need a good power washing, or is it screaming for a repainting or re-staining too? Either way, your work will go faster with Northern Tool’s Powerhorse Gas Cold Water Pressure Washer, which has the 2.5 GPM and 3100 PSI you need to effortlessly blast through mud, dirt and debris on your deck, siding, fence, patio or driveway.
Get your garage in gear
Reclaim your space by getting rid of junk you don’t need, power washing your floors and establishing dedicated space for the tools and equipment you regularly use. New cabinets, bins, racks, shelves or pegboard panels can go a long way toward keeping everything handy and easy to find. You may even want to create a mancave vibe by installing a TV, mini fridge and casual seating.
Tackle your gutters
It can be a hefty job, but built-up debris must be cleaned out at least twice annually to avoid wet basements, interior leaks, mold growth, rodent infestations and/or displacement of the gutters themselves. Use a sturdy ladder to safely access the edges of your roof, then use a trowel or gutter scoop to remove refuse. Flush out the system using a power washer or a garden hose with a spray attachment. Check for cracks, rust or paint damage and missing attachments, ensure all sections are sloped enough to drain stormwater and replace any sections that can’t be repaired.
Summer is here, and that to-do list won’t take care of itself. Plan now to take on the tasks that will help you and your family make the best possible use of your outdoor spaces in the warm weather.

Story Of A Landscape: Renovating Enclosed Courtyards Without Access
Joe Monello is not a man to rest on his laurels. The owner of Wayne, New Jersey-based Monello Landscape Industries LLC has some pretty good commercial clients, but he’s not taking them for granted.
One of his best is CareOne, a company that owns more than 70 acute nursing and assisted living facilities in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Monello Landscape not only does maintenance for CareOne facilities, but also renovates several of its landscapes each year. Last year the company renovated 11 such facilities.
Monello admits that the renovation work always includes certain elements, such as an outdoor kitchen and entertainment area, a water feature, shade structures and plenty of seating. However, new for 2016 were a couple new landscape additions: a second, large water feature near each facility’s front entrance, and a sensory garden.

The two companies first gave them a try at CareOne at Hamilton Assisted Living in Hamilton, New Jersey, and the combination was enough to help Monello earn an honorable mention from HNA in the Combination of Hardscape Products Commercial – less than 20,000 sf category at the 2017 Hardscape North America tradeshow.
And, the award came despite the challenge of Monello’s crew having to crane everything in and out of the enclosed courtyard.
“This one was approximately 30 feet by 40 feet,” Monello says. “Some of them are smaller, and some are much bigger. However, there was no access through the building. We had to crane in excavators, bobcats, all our materials and when we took out the existing trees and concrete, we craned them back out in big Super Sack containers.”

The major component on these projects is pavers, and Monello says the largest part of the Hamilton project utilized a Techo-Bloc product called Blu 60 mm slate walkway pavers.
“We only use Techo-Bloc smooth surface for wheelchair users,” he says. “We use different colored smooth pavers in the seating areas to give those areas an inlay-look for contrast and contour. There’s also a border material called Villagio that we use for the edging that gives a nice finished look and defines areas.”
As part of the paver work, Monello always installs the CareOne logo in a different color.
The seat walls were built from another Techo-Bloc product: Mini-creta. Other stone products making their appearance in this project include an EP Henry veneer over concrete block for the outdoor kitchen and seating bar, and plenty of black granite for the kitchen countertops and bistro tables.
Photo: Monello Landscape Industries LLC
“We used a leather-finish black granite, so you have some coarseness to it; it’s not a smooth texture,” Monello explains. “It’s also a texture that’s good for outdoor use because plates and glasses don’t slide off easily.”
Other primary features in Monello Landscape’s projects for CareOne include at least one water feature in the courtyard, and pergolas for shade.
“Many of the courtyards have two,” Monello says of the water feature. “This has just one, but it’s a four-foot tall bubbling urn.”
As for the use of pergolas for shade, Monello says they’re an alternative to putting in large trees. Along with the pergolas, the company supplies sun-protective mesh tarps that are custom-made and snap on and off. Because Monello Landscaping is responsible for the maintenance, they’re put on in the spring and taken off again in the fall.
Photo: Monello Landscape Industries LLC
“We do foundation plantings where we use a lot of perennials,” he says. “We like to use a lot of colorful plants. We never put in shade trees because the leaves can be problematic for maintenance, and then there are the roots and the possibility they’ll outgrow the area. We use ornamental trees that top out at 15-20 feet.”
He cites Crepe myrtles as a good example of the tree palette.
And, then, there’s the sensory garden. Monello explains that CareOne had begun outsourcing people to come in and teach residents about different plants, “and we just took it to the next level and designed these courtyards to have sensory gardens built into them.”
The idea behind a sensory garden is to stimulate all the senses and, in this type of facility, to be wheelchair accessible, as well. By building up the garden area using the mini-creta product the residents will be able to do their own gardens.
“We’re now developing a program where we’re going to be teaching the residents about the sensory garden plants,” Monello says. “We’ll help them plant them and learn about the different types of plants and why they’re in a sensory garden.”
Photo: Monello Landscape Industries LLC
Because this is an enclosed courtyard, drainage and irrigation were also important components. Monello says the job required putting in new systems, although the company was able to tap into the existing drainage system.
“We typically use center drains with 6-inch iron grates,” he says. “These are custom-made grates shaped like leaves.”
While Monello Landscape was rebuilding the interior courtyard, the company was also giving a facelift to the area around the facility’s front door. The highlight of that work: a large water feature incorporating both boulders and plantings that is Monello’s favorite part of the project.
“It’s the first of its kind,” he says. “Now it’s a standard with the organization. We call it ‘curb appeal’ and it’s become something of a hallmark for the organization. When you’re out driving, you know it’s a CareOne site because of the water feature. They’re a great eye-catcher.”
Photo: Monello Landscape Industries LLC
The rest of the exterior work includes plantings, sodding, irrigation and lighting. Monello says his company did a lot with lighting, both in the courtyard and on the exterior, and it’s a company specialty.
The front of the building features a mix of up-lighting and downlighting, as well as path-lighting for pedestrians. And, the water feature is extensively lit with various kinds of lighting, including some submersed in the water itself.
“Inside the courtyard, we used probably another 50 lights,” Monello says. “There’s downlighting and up-lighting on the pergolas, lighting in the kitchen, and plenty of lip lighting in all the walls. We love the way it looks under the coping.”
Photo: Monello Landscape Industries LLC
Not surprisingly, the use of the crane offered the greatest challenge with the job, and the greatest learning opportunity.
“This wasn’t our first crane job — and, we’ve done about six this year — but we learned that every swing of the crane needs to have an element coming in, and every swing has to have an element coming back out,” he says. “We learned how to be efficient in using the crane because it’s so expensive. There’s a lot of thought that has to go into it.”
And, perhaps more so because Monello Landscape always has a 60-day completion schedule on its CareOne jobs — crane or no crane. To meet those deadlines, Monello says the crews on a project can vary widely.
Not surprisingly, he’s also very proud of this job, and not just for the award.
“I’m proud of the use the residents get from the courtyard,” he concludes. “They love it and use it. I love that their families have a place to go and gather, and I love the aesthetics of it all.”

Customizable Spiral Garden DIY
Customizable Spiral Garden DIY
A spiral garden is a versatile and practical solution for urban and hobbyist gardeners alike to maximize space. Gravity allows water to drain freely from the top of the spiral and seep to all layers, creating microclimates. A dry zone at the top and moist area at the bottom gives you many options when choosing plants. We planted tulips at the top of our spiral as they require very little water.
The Rumblestone brick pavers allow for customization of your spiral garden. Experiment with the height of the outer wall and your spiral walls. Taller walls can create an additional shaded microclimate.
Instead of planting flowers as we did, you might consider planting an herb spiral garden. Keep in mind the zones of your spiral garden to help your plants stay their healthiest.
Materials
Empire Orange Flag Stakes
(30) Miracle Gro Garden Soil
(5) Vigoro Pond Pebbles
(10) Scotts Brown Mulch
Rumblestone Double Tree Ring Kit in Café 106 x 14 in.
(75) Rumblestone Café Mini Wall Block 3.5 x 7 in.
Flowers or herbs
Tamper
Step 1: Build the Outer Wall
Lay out the Rumblestone outer wall as shown in your Rumblestone booklet in your chosen location. We designed our structure with a repeating pattern of one large brick followed by two small bricks. Our 106 in. diameter wall sits low at 7 in. tall, making the project more about the flowers and less about the structure. You can customize your spiral garden however you’d like. Experiment with different heights and patterns to find the perfect spiral garden for you.
Ensure your structure is level, adding soil under the bricks and packing down as needed. You should also backfill with soil around the outside wall to add support to the structure.
Step 2: Fill the Circle and Tamp
Fill in the entire circle with soil. Then pack down the soil.
Step 3: Design the Spiral
Create a spiral pattern with the flags, starting at the center of your circle and working your way out. You might need to make some adjustments to your spiral to make it even.
Step 4: Create the Spiral with Soil
Pour soil along the inside of the flags, making sure that the spiral rises up gradually as you move toward the center of the circle.
Step 5: Tamp the Soil
Tamp the soil along the spiral.
Step 6: Lay the Bricks along the Spiral
Lay the Rumblestone bricks on top of the spiral in the same pattern as your outer structure. Add soil under the bricks to level as needed. You can also use a rubber mallet to adjust and level the bricks. You will need to backfill the edges somewhat to give support.
Step 7: Plant the Flowers
Next, add more soil and plant your flowering plants.
We used dark flowers at the bottom of the spiral then gradually added lighter flowers with a bright pink  centerpiece.
Spend time picking your plants as there are many different choices. You might try include alternating colors or planting a mixture of flowering and non-flowering plants.
Step 8: Add Mulch
Put your choice of mulch around the plants, adding contrast to the flowers.
Step 9: Lay the Pebbles
Finally, add river rock to the edges of the spiral to create a whimsical cascading effect. You can add different sizes and shades of river rock for different effects. The contrast adds the finishing touches for our project, making the flowers pop.
Completed Spiral Garden

Natural Stone Sealer
Sealers will no longer prevent etching- most effective staining. An etch mark is a chemical response that affect calcite primarily based stones consisting of marble, travertine and limestone (an etch is always lighter than the stone whereas a stain is constantly darker than the stone). There are not any DIY merchandise in an effort to prevent etching on calcite based stones, but there are a few products a Stone Restoration Professional can practice (coatings) to help prevent etching. You can name your neighborhood Stone Pro to peer if they provide this form of carrier- many do. Paver outlet Natural Stone Sealer is a clean top class penetrating sealer especially formulated to defend, and beautify the color of flagstone and natural stone surfaces. This sealer will protect towards mould, fungus, UV rays, oils, acid rain. It will also lessen chipping, cracking because of freeze/thaw cycles.

Tips and tricks to remember while applying Polymeric sand
Properties’ outer look comes off beautifully and appealing to the eyes of visitors. When we go somewhere where we witness the amazing utilization of polymeric sand to adjust and maintain the pavers, we want to give applause of attention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Times are gone when the patios and walkways were fixed as a formality and left broken for a long while in the future without enough care or maintenance. Today, with the help of polymeric sand and paver sealer, these formalities have become important and easy to pull off. Take a glimpse of a few tips and tricks to enjoying the application of Polymeric sand in the long-run—
Sand is the root element: do not knock it off with low-quality sand
PolySweep Polymeric Sand is quite different from any other form of sand. It is discovered to strengthen the ground and the paver outline. Thus, you mustn't choose low-quality polymers over the good quality ones. This is because low-quality polymers can lose the grip and destroy due to any climatic change like heavy rain. It is better to construct a strong patio at one time than redoing it again and again.
What’s the weather?
To the reader’s surprise, you cannot wake up one day and make a decision to redoing the patio with good-quality polymeric sand. As mentioned earlier, the weather or climatic change makes a difference for the patio and its good shape maintenance. Once, you have constructed the patio using polymeric sand, heavy rain can destroy your entire efforts.
Do not forget to do something about the GAPS
Once the paver of polymeric sand is finished, you will see the gaps between them. This gap is filled with normal sand. You can use a normal broom and allow the sand to go into the depth of the gap and settle. Furthermore, you can use another code of polymeric sand to make the paver flatter. The professional paver constructor utilizes pad or rolling compactor to fill this gap at a professional level.
Paver needs time to be fixed
When the paver is ready, you must not rush into walking all over it. As per the guidance of the professional paver sealers, the paver must not be walked over for 24 hours of construction. Alongside, one should not drive over the paver for 30 days. It allows the pavers to go strong and permanent. Otherwise, there is a risk of breaking.
