Self / Independent Learner's Guide to Language Learning From Zero
-a mini study plan I used this for Spanish, French and Italian, it is my favourite way of starting to learn. It won't teach you the langauge but if this is your first time, if you feel confused and don't know where to begin, this is for you! -this is kinda romance langauge based but might give you ideas if you are learning from a different family too -this is very notebook / writing based since i prefer learning that way Step 1: Preperation
First of all, ask yourself "do i already have some amount of immersion in this langauge?" As humans, we learn from immersion a lot. Songs, but especially visual media is incredibly heplful. I never studied japanese but after watching a few animes i picked up 5-10 random words. Passive vocabulary, being familiar to most common words will be your biggest friend. If the answer is no, before start studying ANYTHING do some immersion. e.g. I watched dix pour cent for French and learned arrêt which means stop because characters were shouting to each other all the time.
After making sure you have some immersion or if you already have some, PREPARE YOUR RESOURCES. Make a file in your computer, reblog tumblr posts, save links. Search for pdfs in google. (x language a1 pdf / x langauge a1 grammar book / x language a1 reading) Free PDF's and and useful websites. The more the merrier. Why? Because when you actually start learning you will slowly realise them half of them are not actually useful, too advance, too simple, not in your preffered style etc. You will en up using same handful amount of resources again and again but before that, you have to TRY EVERYTHING. You are unique and so will be your learning process.
Google x language A1 curriculum. (you can try adding "pdf" at the end of sentence as well) It "probably/ hopefully" exists. If you can't find that way, learn which offical exam is necessary (e.g. for French it's DELF/DALF, in english there is IELTS and so many more) If you are lucky, you can find a langauge teaching enstitute's curriculum and you can find in what order they teach things. This was very helpful for me because sometimes you don't know what to study next, or just want to visualise what do you need to learn, it is helpful. I printed one out and paste it to the back cover of my notebook. You won't need this one YET. I'll explain in a second. Keep reading.
Get a notebook. I don't prefer books while learning from zero because it will be filled with vocabulary you don't know. My pereference is no squares no lines empty ass notebook and colorful pens. I'm a person of shitty doodles. I love to draw and visualise things. It really helps my brain. In A1, your knowledge is absouletly zero and your brain is about the explode with realising GREAT MASS of knowledge you need to learn in order to be "fluent" . So keep things away from being "too much" if you want to avoid a burnout.
Set a timer. If you want to avoid burnout, the secret is always quit when you feel like you can go another round happily. Quit when you are dopamine high. If you study too much, next day you'll wake up tired, want to rest etc. and make it harder for you to create a habit. I did this mistake with French by studying 4-5 hours everyday for around 30 days. I completed my challenge, completly quit and then didn't come back for MONTHS.
You will be re-studying A LOT. Language learning is repetition. You will start by studying "the A1 curriculum". But, because this is your first time your focus will be on the vocabulary and general comprehension. You are trying to re-wire your brain, and learn a different way of thinking and living. It's not easy. It will take time. It will be painful at times. But it is 100% worth it.
After you finished studying your curriculum, you'll take a short break and then study the curriculum AGAIN. For a second time. Because you already know the basics, this time you will be able to focus more on the little things you weren't able to comprehend the last time. e.g. articles or whatever little frustaring thing your langauge has. Also focus more on basic prononciation and especially reading aloud. Find a realistic text-to-reader. Copy-paste a text. Listen and repeat.
Get a new Youtube and Instagram account dedicated to langauge study. How many good resources exists and where they are is really depens on which langauge you are learning. For english, youtube is better. For French, instagram is better. You have to see for yourself. If you get a seperate account for your langauge algorith will learn faster and you won't be distracted by other stuff. Short form engaging videos are the best for absolute beginners. Re-watch things and try to repeat them out loud. It's called shadowing and is your future best friend.
If you want to learn how to speak, you first need to how to write. If you can't write sentences without looking at google translate (or reverso) you won't be able to make up sentences in your head. If you want to learn how to write, your first need to learn how to read. You need to start in this order but also don't be perfectionist. Do it even if you do it wrong. They will be fixed eventually and won't stick. Record yourself speaking even if the text you are reading is 90% google translated. Why? Beacuse speaking will enhance your vocabulary in a way no other thing can and that's the core of reading. So this isn't a linear thing. It's actually a circle!
Step Two! Ok, Sadie, i got my notebooks and read through all the warnings where do i start? *First page: [] means written is target langauge
[x notebook] x= your target langauge
Add something cute and make you feel happy to open up the notebook. It can a drawing, a picture, anything. First page is your entrance to your new home. Make it welcoming.
*[My name is X. I am Y years old. I live in Z.] *Greetings. Main articles if there are any. Yes, no, please, thank you. *What is your name, what do you do for living, how are you, where are you from, how old are you, how many langauges do you speak, numbers from 0-100. If there are multiple way of saying these things and probably there are, just write one. You will eventually learn others. Baby steps. *write a basic ass text of two people having a conversation asking and answering these questions.
*the alphabet and how to pronounce the letters. basic letter combinations that change into a different sound. a youtube video about this 100% exists.
*personal pronouns and if there is a "am/is/are" verb the conjugation of it. (in spanish there is two unfortunately) *artciles and basic noun endings. a couple exemples of nouns in x form but takes y article. *first 5 most common verbs. learn the conjugation, try writing basic ass sentences. (e.g. to come, go, have, speak)
*three more verbs (e.g. to eat, can, to want)
*take some time to fully comprehend. check your curriculum list to look and see if you want to add anything. e.g.for spanish that can be ser vs estar, for spanish is can be "how to ask questions in french" becaue it's way harder compared to other langauges.
*take some break from grammar and learn some vocab maybe. it can be colors, or feelings. (i am sad, i am hungry etc.)
*start studying most common verbs. usually a form of categorization exists. usually it's verb ending. (unless it's a language like turkish where every verb either ends with -mek or -mak lol.) Start with 10- 15 most common verbs. You will also be learning some vocabulary by default. (try to stick to regular verbs if you can, if not that's fine) (Do not learn any verbs you won't be able to use immediately.)
*Learn basic adjectives and how they work so you can form more detailed sentences.
*After comprehending how to form basic positive negative sentences and some verbs, congratulate yourself, because you deserve it! *Learn how tell time. "What time is it? It's x'o clock."
*learn clothing and how to simply describe physical look e.g. hair color, eye color, beard, glasses...
*learn the verbs of daily routine. be able to write a generic ass "i wake up, i do breakfast, i eat lunch at school, i sleep" sort of text.
*demonstratives. this that. these. those. you can add some vocabulary you like. this is a cat. this is a tree. you can add placement adjectives now or later. (the cat is under the sofa. the bird is on the table etc.)
*Now you know a lot of things! Take some time and focus a bit more on the vocab, let your brain process things, do some passive immersion. avoid a burnout at all costs. *learn how to say "there is" (if you want more vocab transportation and city centre themes can be included.) *learn how to talk about your hobbies. This is the generic A1 curriuculum. You are able to understand basic things, you have a generic comprehension. That's all it takes to be considered A1. If you want to pass it though, what you need is a good grammar source. For French and Spanish Kwiziq was very useful. I couldn't find a good online grammar resource for Italian yet. (please ask more experienced langblrs for recs.) Slowly learn more vocab (since A1 is more vocab based. If you hate Anki and Quizlet stuff check Linguno. Actually check Linguno anyway it's a banger and i'm gonna die on that hill.)
If you don't have have native friend to ask questiones and you don't have any ethical concerns ChatGPT can be useful. I'm using it for French for months. Why are we using this particle here, why this and not that, can you give me some example sentences.... you can play guess the animal, ask for writing prompts and then make ChatGpt find and explain your mistakes to you. It's very handy.
*Don't be scared to share about your journey on Tumblr and most importantly ENJOY!

In this comprehensive guide, we'll delve into top-notch tips and strategies to help you shine in the IELTS Academic Speaking Test.
Understanding the IELTS Academic Speaking Test
Before we dive into the tips and tricks, let's ensure we're on the same page regarding what the IELTS Academic Speaking Test tip entails. This test assesses your ability to communicate effectively in English, specifically in academic contexts. It consists of a face-to-face interview with an examiner and is divided into three parts:
Part 1: Introduction and Interview
This initial phase might seem like a breeze, but it sets the tone for the rest of the IELTS Academic Speaking Test. Here's how you leave a lasting impression on people:
1. Warm-Up Your English: Start your day by thinking in English. Narrate your morning routine or describe your surroundings in English. It helps get your brain into English mode.
2. Expand Your Answers: Don't just stick to 'yes' or 'no' answers. Elaborate on your responses. For instance, if asked about your hobbies, instead of saying, "I like reading," say, "I'm an avid reader, and I particularly enjoy delving into classic literature."
3. Practice with a Partner: Find a study buddy or a language exchange partner to simulate interview scenarios. This will help you get comfortable speaking in English for the IELTS Academic Speaking Test tips.
Part 2: Long Turn
This is where you get to shine by delivering a mini-speech. Here's how to ace it:
4. Structure Your Response: Use one minute of preparation wisely. Make brief notes to structure your speech with an introduction, main points, and a conclusion.
5. Speak Clearly and Coherently: Focus on pronunciation and fluency. Don't rush through your speech. Maintain a steady pace, and enunciate your words clearly.
6. Expand on Ideas: Don't just scratch the surface. Dive deep into the topic. Explain your thoughts, provide examples, and show the examiner that you can sustain a conversation.
Part 3: Discussion
In the final segment, you'll engage in a more in-depth conversation with the examiner. Here's how to excel:
7. Listen Actively: Pay close attention to the examiner's questions and comments. Respond directly to what they say, showing your ability to comprehend and engage.
8. Provide Balanced Responses: When discussing topics, present a balanced view. Acknowledge different perspectives, even if you strongly agree or disagree with them.
9. Use Advanced Vocabulary: Impress the examiner with a rich vocabulary. Avoid repetition and explore synonyms to convey your ideas effectively.
General Tips for the IELTS Academic Speaking Test
Now that we've covered each section let's dive into some overarching IELTS Academic Speaking Test tips to boost your performance:
10. Practice Regularly: Consistent practice is the key to improvement. Use sample questions, cue cards, and speaking prompts to hone your skills.
11. Record Yourself: Use your smartphone or a recording device to capture your responses during practice. As you listen to them critically, look for areas that could be improved.
12. Time Management: Practice within the time limits of each section. Develop a sense of how long you should speak to stay within the allotted time.
13. Seek Feedback: Don't hesitate to ask a teacher, tutor, or fluent English speaker for feedback. Constructive criticism can help you pinpoint your weaknesses.
14. Relax and Breathe: On the IELTS Academic Speaking Test day, take a deep breath and stay calm. Nervousness can affect your fluency and pronunciation. Just keep in mind that it's a dialogue, not a questioning.
15. Expand Your Vocabulary: Read books, articles, and essays to broaden your vocabulary. Make a habit of jotting down new words and using them in your speech.
16. Cultural Awareness: Familiarize yourself with common cultural topics and social issues. Being well-informed can enrich your responses during the discussion phase.
17. Stay Updated: Here are some IELTS Academic Speaking Test tips. Keep up with current events and trending topics. You might be asked about recent news, so stay informed.
In Conclusion
Preparing for the IELTS Academic Speaking Test requires dedication and consistent effort. By following IELTS Academic Speaking Testtips and practising regularly, you can boost your confidence and performance. Remember, the key is to communicate effectively and showcase your English language skills. With the right mindset and preparation, you'll be well on your way to success in the IELTS Academic Speaking Test.

INTRODUCTION
Hello!
This is APRIL's MINI BLOG !
I created this blog solely for my writing and language practice. I've been wanting to have this space so I can keep track of how far I can improve myself in these areas.
My writing will be mainly in English and Indonesia and will cover a range of writing such as movies/anime reviews, IELTS writing practice, opinions/thoughts, experiences and stories.
Since this blog is for writing and language practice, there will be some errors; I might make grammatical mistakes, wordy sentences, put incorrect words, incomplete thoughts, etc. So I hope everyone who reads my writing will kindly let mistakes pass, but if it's not a hassle for you, I would love to hear your feedback.
Thank you! ✨

How I Score 120 on Duolingo
It was on the first December 2022 I had a Duolingo English Test. Actually I have an IELTS test score for 6,5, but due to the fact that my desired university is no longer accepting IELTS for that score, I had to take another English proficiency such as Duolingo, considering that it’s the cheapest test for the University that I am pursuing.
I planned to take the test in the middle of November actually. But because of my lack self management, I had to postpone the test for the better result. I study harder and harder, and at December 4, 2022 I had the Duolingo test. Surprisingly, I got 120! Wooo, amazing. It’s like 7.0 IELTS by the way. Alhamdulillah!
Tumblr media
So here are some key points to take for those who are struggling with Duolingo right now:
Join the Duolingo Community on Facebook
A warm-hearted Duolingo teacher, Luke, has a super amazing group for those pursuing Duolingo. If you want to get the high score for this test, it’s an obligation for you to join this group. Just open your FB and type Duolingo English Test, and the group will be appeared. In that group, you can look for any priceless link, information and circle taking Duolingo. They also share the experiences that they got after the test. It’s a nice circle isn’t? So here is the FB link if you want joined the group. https://web.facebook.com/groups/602389140715039/
Hand the Duolingo Core Material
Unlike IELTS or TOEFL IBT that has a official book that can be accessed by the students, Duolingo has no official material that you can access. So the one and only way to learn how to get the desired score for Duolingo is by learn it in Youtube or FB Group. Internet is an amazing tool for you look for all of the information that you want. However, I use this link to enhance my skill in Duolingo. It’s free and complete as it consists of writing, speaking, reading and any other skills tested in Duolingo. Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1mcOucC7izbsPwFIjH9axZnIM6Ap_kchj?fbclid=IwAR154C9QZIeOCl1BsUpTGppIo3uPD0_pzApB8TCoo5XvMYsgr_L24-rzCNY
Taking free practice tests at least 10x
Duolingo provides a mini test for users who will take this test. It’s free by the way, and based on my colleagues, the score given in this free test is relatively accurate. Sounds good! In my case, I had taken this free test for 15x as I remember. I had this mini test everyday from the middle of November to the D Day. Quite thoughtful I felt, but yaaa, that was the process that I had to take. Every I finished the mini-test, I record it in Notion to help me observe how my progress was. I put the table I mention in the end of this writing. It was super meaningful for me by the way, since it has always been reminding me how I took efforts for this test 😵.
Take a Guruly Try Out
If you have considered that you are ready enough for taking the test, I suggest you to take a final try out on Guruly. It’s a website for taking a full English try out such as IELTS, TOEFL, and definitely Duolingo. If you had a lot of exercise in mini test provided by Duolingo, it’s you time to take the full test of Duolingo in Guruly. It takes one hours test as the time you have to allocate for Duolingo test. However, Guruly wants your WA number for OTP code when joining its website. Soo, if you think that it’s not a big problem, just do it. I personally didn’t have any problem after 1 month registering the website.
Take The Test in a Quite Room
Beside you have to make sure that you are energized enough for the test, you also need to consider what time you will take the test. A noisy room will totally distract your concentration taking the test. I took that test at 20.30 in my home, considering that in at the time I mentioned, usually my home is relatively quite. However, my prediction was false, some noisy vehicle passed my home, it’s totally distract me actually. But, finally I got it!
So those are some key points to take that I recommend to you before taking the Duolingo Test. Hopefully you can get your desired score too!
--
Here the table that I told before. Actually it's still long as I had 5 more practice after 1 December 2022.

do you have any advice for an English speaker who wants to learn Russian, but is too afraid to start? I've done a little bit on Duolingo and Memrise, I could already read cyrillic before starting, but the ь is so intimidating to me, among other things. one of my favorite bands are Russian speakers, I can sing their songs fairly well I think, but the idea of actually speaking it makes me too scared. I'm afraid of sounding like an idiot. :(
Tumblr media
Hi! Believe me, there is no way you can avoid the phase of sounding like an idiot when speaking a new language. This is normal, and this is NOT embarrassing. I can assure you, Russians understand how difficult Russian is, and won’t make fun of you.
You are doing quite a progress.
- You familiarized yourself with the Russian alphabet and got comfortable with it. Not everyone can pass through this initial obstacle. Congratulations!
- You figured out that there is something fishy and tricky about ь. You are absolutely right! If you want to understand hard and soft signs, you need somebody who would explain you some basic fundamentals about Russian historical phonetics and Russian modern phonetic system. Stay with me, I’ll publish a few articles (and, probably, a mini-course) on this topic.
- You have been training your ear by listening to songs in Russian. This is how I learned English! I personally believe that this is one of the easiest, funniest and most efficient ways to learn a new language.
- You sing Russian songs along! This is awesome! Keep practicing Russian with songs!
Speaking don’t come easy. Even in our mother-tongue, we first learn understanding and only then, months later, we try to speak. At least, this is what First language acquisition studies show.
In language proficiency tests, such as TOEFL, IELTS and others, speaking tests are normally scored lowest. This is natural, this is normal. Don’t expect speaking acquiring automatically after learning a few hundreds of words and a few dozens of grammar rules. It’s like learning how to dance through learning anatomy and the theory of music. You simply need to start dancing if you want to dance gracefully. You simply need to start speaking if you want to speak fluently. Unlike dancing, speaking bears no risks of injury. It’s just your ego that may hurt a bit.
But there is one thing you can do in order to facilitate the process. Start writing, and do that regularly. Writing is an active language skill. This means, it takes production of speech, rather than consuming (as reading and listening). You will produce phrases in Russian, but, unlike with speaking, you’ll have time to think them through, to look up words in a dictionary, and so on. Write 10-15 sentences daily. Ideally, find a language partner who would correct you (try italki, or any language exchange platforms). This is how I trained myself for IELTS in the absence of English speakers around. Don’t rush your speaking skills. They’ll come to you.
It looks like you know how to enjoy Russian. You organized your learning in the way you like it. Excellent! Keep practicing. I’d say, a language exchange (LE) partner would be of a great help, but please make sure you are ready and comfortable with the LE sessions. And be very picky - your LE partner should share your interests. Otherwise, you’ll have nothing to talk about.
I wish you the very best of luck! (and if you need a tutor, you can always reach me out).

Online Irish Government COVID-19 Passenger Locator Form.
Not a bad deal hén 📷 Váy vóc mùa hè ngắn ngắn thì đừng mang nhiều nhé.

So here are the details:
Adit: Jas + Sepatu: punya sendiri Shirt: Uniqlo : IDR299K Celana: Jahit : IDR250K Dasi kupukupu: shopee (lupa tokonya dia beli sendiri) : IDR70K
Invitation
Tumblr media
Suatu hari saat sedang mumet mengerjakan riset, aku iseng buka canva.com dan browse berbagai desain undangan. Entah kerasukan apa, aku mulai mengedit suatu desain hingga hasilnya benar-benar kusuka.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MUA: regalia make up Sungguh MUA yang kutemukan is such a gem! Aku ingin make up yang pinkish-natural, tanpa cukur alis dan riasan mata tebal. Beberapa minggu sebelumnya aku sempat trial make up dan dia betul-betul atentif akan make up yang kusuka. Kami pun berdiskusi panjang dan hasilnya sangat memuaskan. Harganya pun super murah! Total make up pengantin dengan 7 orang keluarga: IDR1150K!!
Tumblr media
Jumlah undangan ~250. It is totally worth it! Semoga membantu teman-teman yang sedang mempersiapkan pernikahan yaa!
