Mingxia

When she was a child, Mingxia had a fixation with corpses. To be specific, dissecting them. Any dead animal she could get her hands on would be meticulously cut open and studied, with her going so far as to remove pieces and label them to learn what they were. Blood always fascinated her, and she was possessed with a desire to learn what made things live. Knowing the pieces of organisms of all kinds became her passion, and while she had no choice but to stick to animals when she was young, Mingxia spent years wishing it could be a person next. And in addition, she wished she could see the inside of something that was still alive.

Jupiter

Jupiter was born as an illegitimate child of a minor noble family. He was an unwanted child from the beginning, which meant that when the Guard (or more accurately, the Science Division) offered to take him, no one had any complaints. His family gave him up willingly, and he spent the next few years as an experiment at the hands of Wendigo’s mother and the early stages of what would become Wendigo Works. At age sixteen, he was given his power and frozen in time... although whether or not that counts as “childhood” is iffy by Daryan definition. Jupiter was around five years old when the Science Division took him, and his life was a dehumanized one from that point on.

Dieterich Bruinsma

Daryan

The leader of Ward 1, which is devoted to medicine and drugs. Despite its fairly respectable past, Dieterich has reduced it to shady new lows. The man himself is a former street dealer known for selling unknown and highly dangerous concoctions of his own making.

In personality, he’s the type to never take anything seriously. The world is an amusing place, and he lives to make money, gain power, and have fun. With his sick sense of humor and extremely dubious “morals”, very little is beyond what he’s willing to do to get ahead.

Mingxia Vesalius

Daryan

The leader of Ward 2, which is devoted to biology, both Anryuu and animal. An iron-fisted superior who expects nothing but the best of herself and others. Her ward is run to brutal efficiency, with results prioritized above all else.

A ruthlessly calculating, dangerously short-tempered woman who demands the kind of effort that kills people and treats others like pawns in a strategy game. She barely tolerates most of the rest of Winterkill Works, only respecting Winterkill herself and a few other superiors.

Seamus Morael

The leader of Ward 3, which is devoted to psychology and the operations of the Anryuu mind. Another former Scarab Tower employee, Seamus grew frustrated with the “lack of respect” he received there and set out to find employment where he could do as he pleased.

A self-proclaimed genius whose strengths don’t lie where he thinks they do. While he’s remarkably skilled at research and textbook knowledge, actually interacting with others is where his talents fall apart. Very opinionated, stuck on himself, and self-assured.

Gaware Collyer

The leader of Ward 4, which is devoted to nutrition and other such specialized biology. The ward itself is neither underproductive nor overachieving, and the workers seem oddly satisfied with its management. Gaware runs it well, but never attracts much attention.

A good-natured man with strong passions and a poor constitution. Despite his happy-go-lucky attitude, he’s skilled at what he does... but also seems to be hiding something serious. He has a frequent habit of eating to the point of sickness, especially sweets.

Hikura Faraday

Daryan

The leader of Ward 5, which is devoted to chemical compounds of all kinds. Her ward is in close contact with Ward 1, mainly because Hikura herself is a frequent client of Dieterich’s. The two wards often work in cooperation and share research projects with each other.

Thanks to a habit of using personality-altering drugs, she fluctuates between varying types of behavior and has little memory of what her original personality was. Dieterich claims to be friends with her, but their relationship is far more like a drug dealer and client.

Beatrice Mukhina

Daryan

The leader of Ward 6, which is devoted to metalwork and machinery of any variety. Due to the debatable nature of machines in Anryuu culture, her ward is viewed as a place of insanity... which she doesn’t exactly help. To put it very mildly, she’s devoted to her practice.

Her number one passion in the world is metal, to the point where she joined Winterkill Works solely to learn how to be closer to it. She’s generally a kind, sane person, but her excitement often gets carried away, and she seems oblivious to many of the shady things around her.

Lisette Arondight

Daryan

The leader of Ward 7, which is devoted to magical studies. Her ward’s success comes in sudden spikes, mostly because Lisette herself is often preoccupied. However, she has a long-standing rivalry with Seamus, and as such, never allows Ward 3 to best her own without a fight.

A delusional woman with a massive superiority complex and a love for the finer things in life. She uses her rank to get what she wants, and really only does enough work to keep her job (and beat Seamus at every opportunity). She’s cruel, selfish, prideful, and decadently indulgent.

Role: An Executive-rank member of Winterkill Works, and the leader of its Biology Ward. A ruthless scientist who has a fascination with the physical limits of the Anryuu body, and came to work for Winterkill Works so that she could access the best resources for her inhumane experiments.

Age: 26

Height: 4’11

Appearance: Mingxia is a very petite woman. Despite her slight build, she’s all muscle, and she’s built for compact strength and surprising agility. Her hair is light lavender and worn in a bob cut that goes just past her chin, with angled bangs and thick sidelocks. Her eyes are bright yellow and distinctly sharp, and she keeps her fingernails unusually long and pointed.

Personality: Mingxia is no-nonsense, unsympathetic, and strict. She takes what she does very seriously, and she doesn’t appreciate others getting in the way of her goals. She’s ambitious, but not in the sense of wanting power or fame— rather, there are things she’s desperate to learn. Biology is her ultimate interest (and has been since she was young), with her whole life revolving around discovering the limits of the Anryuu form. Despite appearing cold, she’s actually aggressive, hot-headed, and intense, with a high-strung personality and an inability to calm down. She’s a loner who’d rather work by herself when possible, rather than deal with the antics of other people who (she thinks) would only get in the way of her success.

Positive Traits: Mingxia is very focused, with single-minded determination toward whatever she wants to accomplish. She doesn’t shy away from hard work, even when it gets dirty or gross, and she actively enjoys putting her best effort into whatever she does. Her memory is excellent, especially when it comes to little facts and tidbits of information. She’s highly passionate about the things she loves. This passion leads to careful attention to detail, as she doesn’t struggle to pay attention to even the most menial tasks.

Negative Traits: Mingxia isn’t very personable. She dislikes other people, in general, and ends up prickly and grouchy when forced to be around those she dislikes for too long. She takes offense easily, even to small insults, and her temper is known to be awful. Her utter lack of concern for anyone but herself is also concerning— she doesn’t see any problem with putting her experiments through truly horrible suffering for the sake of her own knowledge, even when it goes beyond even Wending Works’s ethics.

History: Mingxia had a fairly average background. The only notable thing about her past is that she’s had a strange, highly concerning habit of dissecting things since she was a child— at first, animal corpses she found, but eventually, she moved on to murdering her fellow Anryuu just so she could see what was inside of them and how it worked. She joined Winterkill Works so that she’d be able to study what makes a person in even greater detail, and so far, she’s been nothing but satisfied with that choice.

Relationships: Mingxia’s relationships are generally distant. She doesn’t often get close to people, especially not her coworkers, and she doesn’t have anyone she could really call a friend. Since she’s not interested in making connections, she does her work with cold, professional efficiency. Her Ward is run strictly, with harsh punishments for those who step out of line in behavior or fail to produce the desired results from their experiments.

Interests: Mingxia likes the sight of a person’s internal systems, being left alone to do her work, and exercising her mind. She dislikes lazy people, failed experiments, and physical contact. Her interests include performing dissections and formulating new theories about Anryuu function.

WW Role: As one of the Executives of Winterkill Works, Mingxia has a Ward to manage— and hers specializes in Biology. While her job is mainly to oversee general projects and workload there, she also handles higher-tier projects that the common scientists couldn’t accomplish. She runs her Ward to maximum efficiency and is highly strict with her subordinates.

Miscellaneous: Mingxia likes feline animals of all kinds, but doesn’t want to have pets. She has unique, claw-tip-like weapons that allow her to target and dig out nerves from her opponents. While she’s normally only concerned with herself, she can become quite sadistic if someone’s irritated her too much. Of all of her fellow Executives, she dislikes Dieterich the most, since he refuses to mind his own business. She frequently gets so absorbed in her work that she forgets to eat, drink, and sleep properly. Proper social conduct is a mystery to her, and she finds most social rules to be a waste of time.

Connotative Description: A cold, yet passionate woman who has a disturbing fixation on the internal workings of her own species. The kind of person who only cares about her own interests and goals.
