EWOC quoted their own tweet and added, “If your boss won’t let you evacuate: Convince as many coworkers as you can to all leave together & contact us right away. You have the right to organize & leave an unsafe worksite. If they’re not bluffing & still try to fire you after the storm, we’ll help you fight it.”

feeling very frustrated about the ways people are talking about hurricane Milton. lots of needless, borderline fear mongering language with very little actual helpful information.

there is also a code for free Ubers to evacuate effected counties, as well as shuttles from evacuating counties to nearby storm shelters

if a category 3 or even category 4 hurricane directly hits Tampa, Florida, the insurance market will collapse overnight and it will be an unimaginable, complete catastrophe that i'm not sure the United States is capable of handling on top of ongoing Helene recovery. keep anyone who has the misfortune of living in Florida in your thoughts because this particular storm is going directly over very, very warm gulf of mexico waters and has the potential to be a monster.

It was a cat 3 when I woke up this morning. It’s escalating that fast. Please stay safe out there, y’all. I know some people can’t evacuate for various reasons, but if you can, please do. This page lists Florida shelters (including pet friendly and/or special needs) by county:

Plus Pinellas and Sarasota, which didn’t have any listed up there.

I don’t know who actually needs this info this late in the game, but if you’re affected, consider writing down some shelter locations (i.e. saved offline) in case you end up needing to go to a different location than the one you planned on.

All I know is, I didn’t take tornadoes in my town seriously until I saw one, and I know I would insist that everything will be just fine. If you can evacuate and you just aren’t convinced that it’s necessary—please consider it. I hope you’re all safe out there, whatever you end up doing.

the fact that eric kripke isn't even christian really adds something to the way christianity is depicted on supernatural. because its really not about being christian at all, but about living in america, a country dominated by christianity, and having to decide for yourself how to handle that. faith is huge in supernatural, and the mythology of the show is very bible-centric, but notably, christ is never there. even sam, who starts out revering the angels, who once said he prays every night, doesn't actually call himself a christian or imply that he believes in jesus--the show is steeped in christianity and biblical lore and yet neither sam nor dean are christians. in fact, over and over again the church itself is depicted as a haunted house that sam and dean will only ever enter as strangers, as outsiders. priests, preachers, faith healers, chapels, crypts, etc. are all just iconography that create an intense sense of unease that sam and dean respond to instantly. as a jew, its very relatable. an essential part of living in america when you're not christian is that exact sense of unease, of knowing that the culture of your country has ensured that you'll get knocked over by christianity no matter where you go, that you'll see hundreds of people truly believing they're good people while doing awful things in the name of their god, and you have no choice but to confront that. kripke gets it

If you live in the path of Hurricane Milton, you need to evacuate asap!

Hurricane Milton has explosively intensified -- it went from a category 1 hurricane at 5am today to a category 5 hurricane at noon.

it is expected to decrease in intensity before it makes landfall, but it is integral to keep in mind that 1: models are sometimes wrong, 2: the area it is going to hit is roughly the same area of Florida that just got walloped by Helene, and 3: category only measures wind speed, not damage potential -- Katrina in 2005 was category 3 when it hit too.

Currently, the storm has sustained wind speeds of 175mph. Tampa is expected to get hit by 8-12ft of storm surge. 6 million people are under evacuation orders.

also yes i know this isn't anywhere near what this blog is about, but i have more followers here than on my main and i want to make sure as many people as possible see this.

definitely not an encouraging sign when a meteorologist local to Florida who has been doing this for a long time is crying on air about the strength and intensity of a storm that is 2 days away. if you're on the west coast of Florida and you still haven't gotten to message.. you need to listen.
