I know I’m not much of a writer yet (in terms of number of fics on AO3, at least) but I’m trying to get there! Most of my big projects are in-progress or planned for the future...

we are NOT counting that book and quarter-book I wrote for my last two years of highschool they SUCKED

Name: Zoe. Like Joe with a Z. My username (which is the same on AO3) refers to my dragon self-sona.

Fandoms: Mostly Star Wars, specifically Clone Wars, Rebels, and the Mandalorian at this point. I love lots of other books and movies and series (The Green Ember, the HTTYD books, Narnia, MLP, The Dragon Keeper Chronicles, the “He Who Finds Mercy” series, Realmwalkers, The Wormling series, Guardians of Ga’Hoole, The Space Trilogy, Trollhunters, Carmen Sandiego, Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murphy’s Law, “No Evil” by Betsy Lee...) but I’m not really active in their fandoms.

Most popular oneshot: uuuh... this isn’t relevant yet? I don’t really have any full one-shots yet... by themselves anyway, ‘cause I guess my Rexsoka week “fic” is just a collection of one-shots. I have high hopes for the one I’m currently working on, though.

Most popular multichapter: again, not sure if I can really answer this yet. I have the most hits on What Might Have Been, What Is, and What Could Be, but it’s not really multiple chapters of the same fic...

Actual worst part of writing: other than wanting to write but not being able to get your brain to do the thing, just how long it takes. What do you mean I have to write for an hour to do one scene? UnAcCePtAbLe. I want to read it now. Also sometimes really important emotional moments, and transitions.

How you choose your titles: I try and make them fit the theme of the fic, and/or reference something important in it. “What Might Have Been, What Is, and What Could Be” is quite literally what’s in the fic, and “Little Galaxy in Your Eyes” references both the physical appearance of one of the characters and the emotional connection the other two characters form with her.

Do you outline: In a way. most of my fics start by me getting struck with an idea and writing a scene for it. If I’m still excited after that, I’ll add to the scene, then outline it once I’m at a good stopping place (or need to know more where I’m going).

Ideas I probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice? I think I could get to all the ideas I have currently, but some of them I’d prefer to know more about relationships before writing. I know “waiting to see if I get married so I can more accurately portray a romantic relationship” seems like an odd reason to postpone a fic, but that’s literally the condition for some of my ideas ever being written.

Callouts @ Me: FIGURE OUT HOW PEOPLE WORK DANG YOU! You are bad at communicating normally. Also get out of your head and learn more generic life stuff. It’ll help your storytelling.

Best writing traits: I try and keep true to at least the core of the canon character? The closer my fic is to being canon, the more I try and do this. I want it to feel like they would actually do what I’m writing if they were in the circumstances of my fic. I also try and be visually descriptive, so the reader can hopefully have a good picture of the setting.

Spicy Tangential Opinion: Oh there have been so many good ones already! Ok, I know this one’s kinda rare: explicit s*x scenes are worthless and add nothing to any work of fiction. Everything thematically important, relationship-changing, or otherwise plot-furthering s*x adds to a story can be done without getting nasty with the details.

Actual worst part of writing: uhhhh I never know if I’m articulating myself in a way that makes sense, and I’m always a little scared of getting a character just Super Wrong, by extension. Also when it’s so clearly in my head but just will not go to paper. Come on brain.

How you choose your titles: Usually they come from the fic itself or are relevant in some way, like one word, OR, I cannot think and I ping @synthstars like “HELP” and then get my fic named that way <3 <3 ilyyyyy you are hecka smart

Do you outline: [handwave]??? It’s usually all in my brain and then I just start writing it. My memory is JUNK so I’ll put down the beats I know I wanna hit in bold, and kinda jump around as I write. The stories tend to kind of grow organically as I write as well, so adapt my notes around it as needed!

Ideas you probably won’t get to, but wouldn’t it be nice?: WAUGH that Ralph DBH fic I have vaguely outlined. It’s like…. Grow Brighter, but DBH ksjhfkjsdhfkjdf. It was gonna be my first attempt at a chaptered fic, bc I really love that android, and I wanna see him get some healing, but in a way that feels satisfactory and fully addresses his character, and doesn’t just boil him down to the essentials. I wanna see Ralph grow and get better and also wanna see all aspects of his character, all facets, everything that makes him himself. i wanna see his anger and his sweetness in equal parts!!! I wanna see his tics just as tics and not necessarily bad nor good inherently! I love him Good egg. Would hug if he let me. also. why are all my chaptered fics I wanna write apparently like. healing journeys. catharsis. ksjdhkjsdhf

Best writing traits: my em dashes idk I like to imagine I’m pretty decent at nailing character “voices”? I really enjoy trying to write dialogue that you can hear. Idk if I always nail it but I have occasionally gotten that comment and it makes me :’]

Spicy Tangential Opinion™: huaahghgh idk if I have one???? idk this one isn’t spicy but as a reader who for MULTIPLE personal reasons avoids n////sfw and s////mut, please tag your fics that have s*x scenes in them with the explicit tag and not the mature tag :’D or just clearly label that there is one in your tags, at the very least. it’s not a fun surprise for me AKJHKJDHKFJH i am not your target audience

I guess in a related note, as a reader who has a lot of fave characters who happen to be side chars, please don’t add a character to the “character tag” section if they’re only in your fic for a line? feel free to mention them in your general tag, but when I’m scraping through all fic desperately looking for that sweet sweet content of a character to the point where I’m opening fic and pressing command+f to search for their name, it’d be a lil easier of a scavenger hunt if their tag was more specific and didn’t just have every cameo tagged :’)

Oh, is this a spicy tangential opinion??? I don’t really ship at all, not terribly interested, but I’ve read the odd ship fic just looking for some character content, and I have to say: y’all, I don’t get the whole ship war thing ksjdhkjshdf
