“In 1923, Georgia O’Keeffe visited York Beach, Maine. Meanwhile, more than two hundred miles away, Alfred Stieglitz was back at his summer home in Lake George, New York. On September 25th, they each witnessed the same moonlit night, about which they then wrote the other . . .
O’Keeffe: Last evening—walking on the beach at sunset I saw a pink moon—nearly full—grow out of the gray over the green sea—till it made a pink streak on the water—very faint—that told you where the ocean began and the soft gray blur of space was ended—And the moon grew hotter and hotter—and the path on the water brighter and brighter till it burned so that I didn’t want to look anymore . . .
Stieglitz: It was a marvelous night. A white moonlight night. I never saw any night quite like it – none more beautiful – For a long while before going to bed I stood at your window looking lakeward – looking at the white silences – the white night so silent. Nothing stirred. Even the moon full & round seemed not to wish to disturb the stillness – it seemed to be moving slowly upwards as if on tiptoes moving through a house of stillness at night when all inmates were fast asleep. All was so still – & the whiteness so lovely – The hills were not hills – they were something bathed in an untouchable spirit of light – the line produced where this spirit met the sky spirit was of rarest subtle beauty – Really I never saw anything quite so beautiful – I looked & looked & knew I was awake . . . “

Georgia O’Keeffe (American, 1887-1986) in Hawaii, 1939
"It took Georgia O’Keeffe nine days to travel the 5,000 miles between New York’s Grand Central Station and the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Although she was heralded by local newspapers upon her arrival as the “famous painter of flowers,” the impetus for her trip was a different sort of plant life.
O’Keeffe was in Hawaii to paint a pineapple.
At least, that was what Dole (then known as the “Hawaiian Pineapple Company”) hoped she would do. It had approached O’Keeffe in 1938, proposing an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii—after which time the painter would deliver the company two canvases for use in a national advertising campaign. O’Keeffe was to determine the subject of these works herself, a degree of artistic freedom that likely encouraged her to accept Dole’s invitation despite an initial ambivalence." [text source]

Zero Tolerance
Zero Tolerance starts with Robert Patrick’s name on the marquee and then opens to a hockey rink. As long as this doesn’t turn into Sudden Death, I’m hoping I’ll be OK… Of course I also see Mick Fleetwood in the cast to you and Miles O’Keeffe at the end (how much Keith is in this film anyhow? Miles O’Keeffe !)This is going to be some interesting cheese I suspect. A black car rolls into Mexico, and…

i won’t tell you this because it only took seeing you one time to set my body alight and you’ll think i’m crazy (if you don’t already): i am desperate for you to touch me for you to slide hands under my shirt to feel your palms on my skin i won’t tell you that i am aching, aching to see you yearning like a 2013 wet dream as if i’ve never been touched as if i’ve never felt love before as if i haven’t been fucked until my bones melted into my blood as if with you it would all be for the first time i won’t tell you how urgently i want to know who you are where you keep your secrets and all of the things you’ve never told anyone before to feel like somehow our invisible strings are meaningful like you’ve been hiding something from me all this time and finally, gloriously, you will one day give it to me i won’t tell you how i could not sleep til dawn (til dawn) after seeing you in the coffee shop you didn’t even kiss me but it’s like you pinned me to the wall with your hips the intensity of what didn’t happen had me tossing and turning til my bedsheets were hot with friction i won’t tell you about the distractions or the palpitations or the focus that i lacked with you, without you, sitting at my desk miles from you your face so clearly burned into my mind laser-cut and sharp but i'm so unable to make it out now i won’t tell you how i know i’ve had you but four years is a long time and my memory hasn’t held up like that it was different then and it’s different now i can’t believe i’ve seen your hipbones before and the thought of them makes me feel faint but i want so desperately to sink my teeth into them i won't tell you how i would take my time, baby we could light candles and settle in for the night like it's snowing outside i’ll find a way to unbutton your shirt and make you come just from the tension like the top gun scene we talked about play take my breath away it will be the film you could never watch with your parents in the room i will blossom and bloom under your fingertips, georgia o’keeffe style and you will scream for me at the same time, don’t step too quick don’t move too fast this waiting, this heaviness feels too good to rush i will sit in your liminal space (like i have for the past nine years) and i will sink i will imagine and i will hope - srw 09-04-24 i gotta chill

More Tips to Boost Running Performance
Jennifer Heiner long worked for a New Jersey-based running company as retail director. In that position, she was responsible for operations at the three (soon to be four) commercial locations for the high-end performance apparel brand. Furthermore, she worked directly with the company’s founders on matters of business expansion and strategy. A few of her daily responsibilities include hiring, inventory control, and productivity optimization. Jennifer Heiner was also involved with race directing and coaching at the five annual races hosted by the company.
Currently, Jennifer Heiner works part time for a New York City based running company, assisting with customer service issues and in race-day production. Running races, and marathon season, is back in full swing for the summer. Unfortunately for Jennifer Heiner-Pisano, training has been rather stop and start over the past 5–6 years, as she has battled chronic pain due to several congenital issues, as well as a broken ankle (and two subsequent ankle surgeries).
While Jennifer Heiner has taken a drug free approach to treating her chronic pain, many turn to opioids and medicinal marijuana to help the side effects of these long-term and often life-long conditions. A recent article by Helio explores the myths and common misconceptions regarding the use of opioid's to treat chronic pain. There are also many less-spoken about side effects of chronic pain in athletes and patients.
During recovery from seven orthopedic surgeries, Jennifer Heiner turned to walking, especially in the morning, to aid in her recovery. The folks at Six Minute Mile highlighted the benefits of this in their recent blog:
Minute 1: Consistency and routine can improve your running
The most significant benefits of exercise come after long-term, dedicated work. That’s why healthy routines can be such a powerful tool, according to: “The Secret to Becoming a Runner Is a Good Routine.” Planning a solid foundation makes building a house a lot easier. In the same way, writing down your goals and schedule can help solidify your routine. Additionally, some athletes like to organize their gear ahead of time to keep things running smoothly. Pre-planning a running outfit is especially effective for those who like to run first thing in the morning, and for more tips on that, you can check out: “10 Tips for Running in the Morning.” A good morning run starts with a commitment to a good night’s rest, so put away the screens and caffeine well before your bedtime. Be sure to hydrate as you wake as well, because after 7 or 8 hours without a drink, your body sure will need it. Consistency is key for a solid morning routine, and there have been a lot of remarkable people throughout history who are proof of that. To see what we’re talking about, just look at: “What’s the best morning routine? History may have the answer.” What did Marcus Aurelius, Ben Franklin, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Beethoven all have in common? A commitment to waking early and starting the day with methodical and decisive action.
#ForceOfHabit
Minute 2: How fast should you walk to improve your fitness?
Here at Six Minute Mile, we are big fans of walking as a form of exercise. Chances are, if you schedule a work call with us, we will pop in our headphones five minutes in advance and do our phone call while we move our feet. We are certain that it’s better to walk than to slump at our desks, but just how much better? Answers to that question are here courtesy of Polar: “Is Walking Cardio? Yes, if You Do It Right.” Any type of walking can help, but if your goal is improving your cardiovascular capacity, you’ll want to get your heart rate into Zone 2 or more. That means reaching at least 60% of your max heart rate, and that typically requires a brisk walking pace of about 3-4 miles per hour. Walking faster isn’t the only way to up the difficulty, and some folks swear by rucking and adding some weight to your body: “Weighted Vest vs. Rucking: Which Is More Effective For Building Endurance And Strength?” Both options will put a greater demand on your body, which means higher heart rate and more strength gains. A weighted vest will distribute the load more evenly, keeping you agile, while a weighted rucksack will put a greater amount of strain on your back and core. If neither of those options suit you, you can’t go wrong with the “Run Walk Run” method to up the intensity. Invented by legendary coach Jeff Galloway, the run-walk-run method helps runners find a pace that they can hold for extensive distances, improving their efficiency and helping them enjoy the process of exercise and its natural reward systems.

Day 37. Mile 3173. Ghost Ranch.
We board a private coach to drive south to the Ghost Ranch. The only thing I knew was it has something to do with Georgia O’Keeffe. And Georgia O’Keeffe painted close ups of flowers. I discover there is more to the Ghost Ranch than Georgia O’Keeffe; and there is more to Georgia O’Keeffe than flowers. I would describe the ranch as a great place to explore your creative juices if you are an artist. It is a retreat. But it is rugged. Of course, everything out here we’ve seen is rugged. The quarters seem very utilitarian. The food is reportedly very good. The scenery is great.
Tumblr media
We take a small bus with perhaps 10 of us to tour the places Georgia O’Keeffe used to inspire her paintings. i am memorized by the colors and curves in the landscape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We than visit her home. It is a modified adobe building. Most adobe structures have very small windows. This keeps the temperature in the house at a moderate temp. I guess Ms. O’Keeffe preferred large windows. She used this as her seasonal get away from New York.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our guide is very good. She keeps our attention. An hour goes by in a second. Now I really am looking forward to going to the Georgia O’Keeffe museum in Santa Fe.

New Harringrove Just Dropped!
I really wanted this to be a Harringrove Week fanfic but life got out of hand in 24 hours and now my schedule is all funky so... It'll get updated just not this week.
let me come closer
Tumblr media
Summary: Billy tilts his head to the side like a confused puppy and furrows his eyebrows. His palm is white-hot through the thin material of Steve’s black shirt as Billy spreads his hand over the omega’s left pectoral, directly atop his racing heart. “Steve.”
The alpha points to himself and then raises those same eyebrows expectantly. Steve huffs out a quiet laugh and relaxes a bit. “I get it, I get it. You’re Billy and I’m Steve.”
This answer gets him a viciously happy growl and a smile bright enough to shame the sun. Steve can’t help but giggle again, this time incredulously.
“What kind of Miles O’Keeffe bullshit are you trying to pull here, jungle boy? Have you never heard of, like, normal pickup lines? You know, what’s an omega like you doing sobbing all alone on Halloween? How’s it going baby, nice ass?”

* * * *
We’re close, we say, to mean that we’re emotionally connected, that we are not separate; or, we’ve become distant, to describe the opposite. After years in New York City, Georgia O’Keeffe moved to rural New Mexico, from which she would sign her letters to the people she loved, “from the faraway nearby.” It was a way to measure physical and psychic geography together. Emotion has its geography, affection is what is nearby, within the boundaries of the self. You can be a thousand miles from the person next to you in bed or deeply invested in the survival of a stranger on the other side of the world.
The Faraway Nearby :: by Rebecca Solnit
