Bielieve in the sprit | exhibition at Windowlicker
Believe in the spirit exhibition aims to capture the invisible concept of ghost. Guests artists explore the theme of a phantom in various mediums including painting, graphics, photography, poetry and field recording.
Who or what is a ghost? Some believed that it is a material manifestation of the deceased made of ectoplasm, others that it was only the effect of a suggestion projected onto reality. Today, the spirit is combined with the concept of the avatar, strengthening its ties with rapidly developing technology. The ghost can also act as a metaphor, a way to process your fears and longings.
This figure wandering among the pages of history, suspended between life and death, still fascinates artists, scientists and tricksters.
_______
I invited people who create in various media and from various backgrounds to explore the broadly understood concept of “spirit".
The materialized phantoms are:

UFO VISUAL LAB exhibition
Galeria Szara Kamienica, Kraków, 19.05-02.06.2017
The exhibition and special events programme organized by Fresh From Poland & Paper Beats Rock & FotoBzik, in partnership with Kraków Photomonth
Unidentified Flying Objects and extra-terrestrials have been appearing in the mainstream media and science discussions regularly for many years. It is extremely interesting: why do people want to believe, how come so many of us ‘know’ how the flying saucers or aliens look like, although no one has ever proved they exist and why the idea of UFO continuously inspires artists to produce stories, movies, artworks?
Polish art photography platform Fresh From Poland along with FotoBzik Association and Paper Beats Rock Foundation created an exhibition and publication that will be presented in Poland during the Krakow Photomonth Festival.
Grażyna Siedlecka, the curator of the exhibition, invited 11 artists, an art collective and guest curators to bring in their own unique stories. Organisers also worked on a timeline and library exploring the detailed evolution of the UFO myth. The important parts of the show are ’Alternative Facts’ zine accompanying the exhibition and the #SHOWMEYOURUFO project - an online and offline research looking into the collective consciousness.

MAGDALENA LARA, OBIEKT, 2014 // WYSTAWA NIE/SAMOWITE
Wyróżniona w ramach wystawy NIE/SAMOWITE praca Obiekt [2014] Magdaleny Lary to „żywa“ instalacja poddająca widza szczegółowej i niepokojącej obserwacji. Jej organiczna struktura przywodzi na myśl formę narośli czy guza. Przedmiot staje się rodzajem naddatku, zdradliwego suplementu, który zaprzecza tradycyjnie rozumianej jako pasywna, naturze obrazu. Tym samym reanimuje on animistyczną, magiczną interpretację dzieła sztuki - obiektu o własnych pragnieniach i woli.
Milena Natalia Soporowska
Magdalena Lara [ur. 1991, Piotrków Trybunalski] - absolwentka 4-letnich studiów licencjackich na Wydziale Malarstwa na Uniwersytecie Artystycznym w Poznaniu.
Stypendystka Ministra Kultury [2012] oraz rektora Uniwersytetu Artystycznego w Poznaniu [2013]. Jej prace prezentowane były na wystawach indywidualnych, m.in.: Homo-Home. Opowiadanie o przedmiocie [Biblioteka Pedagogiczna, Piotrków Trybunalski, 2013] oraz Rysunek to… [Galeria The Rootz, Poznań, 2013]. Brała udział w wielu wystawach zbiorowych w kraju i zagranicą, m.in.: Granice Malarstwa [Galeria Styk, Warszawa, 2014], Studio – Love Aids Riot Sex [Projektraum, Kunsquartier Bethanien, Berlin, 2014] czy Paintball [Galeria Miejska Arsenał, Poznań, 2013]. Współorganizuje również wiele projektów współautorskich takich jak „Akcja Aukcja” II Edycja [CK Zamek, Trochę Kultury, Poznań, 2014]. W swoich pracach malarskich i instalacjach podejmuje tematykę iluzji i mistyfikacji oraz roli spojrzenia.

MILENA / SOPOROWSKA / BIO
photographer / curator / writer based in Warsaw, Poland
Milena Natalia Soporowska is a visual artist, researcher and journalist based in Warsaw, Poland. Her work explores, among other things, the intertwining of everyday life with magic and the occult, questioning the concept of home as a safe, familiar haven. She is interested in the combination of alternative medicine and psychoanalysis, and the overlap between Christianity, esotericism and folk spirituality.
Studied History of Art [main faculty] at College of Inter-area Individual Humanistic and Social Studies at University of Warsaw and photography at The Society of Polish Art Photographers [graduated with distinction] and Academy of Photography. A recent graduate of Museology at University of Warsaw. Laureate of the 5th edition of ShowOFF contest for young talents at XI Photomonth in Cracow [project: Guest Rooms, curator: Bownik]. Moreover, Milena is a graduate of the Sputnik Photos 2019/2020 mentoring programme. Co-founder of curatorial project ABBILD and Swatki. Collaborated with galleries and cultural institutions: lokal_30, Starter, LAW, Branicki Palace, National Museum in Cracow, RDK/Os. Jazdów community and Book Art Museum. Scholarship holder at Summer Academy in Traunkirchen and Salzburg International Academy of Fine Arts. Took part in various group shows. Writer and former techno promoter.
As a practitioner, I am interested in the image within the meaning of visual culture. As a “picture” I understand every kind of notion taking mental and/or physical form. I am particularly interested in mediated images interpreted in terms of objet trouvé tradition. As a theorist, I am concerned about the reception and production of images as social and cultural activities. Inspired by thought of Hans Belting, I study the triadic relation between an image, a man and his body. I am also interested in the role of text and psychoanalysis in image creation.
