How old are the Szuter brothers?
I can't find Mike or CJ's ages anywhere online. Going by the release date of their earliest album, that being Outta the Blue self titled in 1985, they're at least in their 50s now.
Tumblr media
Going by CJ's "Life Events" section on his Facebook, he's maybe 62-65 . He "became a musician" in 1977, which if you assume he was 18 that puts his birthday at 1959, and thus he's 65. He "played [his] first bar gig" in 1983, which if you assume he was 21 puts his birthday at 1962, and his age at 62.
That's all speculation though; nothing I can find says anything about anybody's ages. I don't care super hard about it, but I am perplexed at what I can find and none of it is the members' ages.

Retronaut Selects: Jizzy Pearl - All You Need Is Soul (2018)
Tumblr media
Thanks to my dad, I’ve always known about Jizzy Pearl.
The reason I know about him is because my dad would always talk about “Blackout In The Red Room”.
I always remember hearing that album in parts, but I when I finally listened to it in full, it blew my mind.
So, back to 2018, I found out about this album through Wikipedia!
My dad was super excited when I told him.
I vividly remember the first time my dad played it, and the opening song “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone” and it was effortlessly awesome and literally one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard.
During one of my last college semesters, I listened to this album countless times.
It’s one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Period.
Essential Tracks: You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone, Comin’ Home To The Bone, Mortified
Listen here: All You Need Is Soul

Every printed lyrics of All Hail Shadow say that this one specific line in the chorus is “Obliterating everything that’s in your way”, but it sounds way more like “Obliterating everything that’s not your friend” (in both the M-F and C40 versions!!)
The lyrics on Spotify, though, do say “not your friend”
Tumblr media
I assume this was a mistake made when Mike Szuter provided the lyrics to SEGA, probably an earlier version of the lyrics, which then made their way through each release, all the way up to Driving Through Forever. And I guess they finally realized the mistake when putting the lyrics into Spotify.

Mike with some insight about Who I Am on a youtube video
First, I wanna say that this is straight from a video Bassomar posted in the discord. Thanks! Wanted to show it to Tumblr as well.
youtube
For the video itself, it's the same song mostly, but at 2 minutes, there's a different solo. Mike's comment basically said that this version has a solo he did, while the album version has a solo from Chris. It's the same with the other songs on VCKM.
He also talked about the mythos surrounding this song! In short, Jun (Senoue I'm assuming) came down to Nevada, and before he even knew what he'd be doing when Jun came, Mike wrote this song. When they met up, they instead made a new song together, that being the one in Shadow the Hedgehog, All Hail Shadow. I wonder if the same blunder happened with Sins of a Divine Mother...

I'm listening through Sugar all the way through for the first time and WOOO
This is some of the greatest new music I've listened to in a while!!! Like the title suggests it's so saccharine in every song, all these sincerely sappy love songs like you'd hear from The Beatles or CCR or Dolly Parton or something. I love it so much!!
Maybe this will sound weird but I've been exposed to so much insincerity in music, movies, and people, and to hear this guy belt out with full sincerity how much he loves me is adorable and beautiful. My first introduction to the Szuters was their edgier stuff, like VCKM, but I'm realizing this kind of music is making my heart beat out of my chest. I can't get enough of it! I want to live! I want to love! I want to start a band and play these songs on my bass guitar for all my friends to hear!!!
Is this what Beatlemania felt like? Like an explosion of joy over music that speaks directly to my soul?
