Me: Wow, why do all the townsfolk seem to know Zelda personally like she’s just any ol local girl.
Also me: Spends like an hour hopping onto any & every surface that can be hopped onto, hopping into the town square fountain, trying to hop into the well, hopping into & hiding in pots, jumpscaring the local cops, crawling out of the well dripping wet somehow, chasing butterflies, & occasionally managing some parkour on the rooftops… ah, I see.

Sometimes I’ve wondered if fandom consensus on things is the result of much discussion via posts, but then you hit every single beat without any outside influence so I guess not. Just…all of this. Hook came off so badly in that backstory; any sympathy I might have had after seeing him abandoned by his own father completely evaporated when he then left his own younger brother fatherless. It doesn’t even make sense; one would think he’d have spared his father for the boy’s sake. And don’t even talk to me about ‘this is the first selfless thing you’ve ever done’. *throws up hands in frustration* Do these people not watch their own show? *Sigh* Ah well, buckle up for 5B, when you too will get to make fun of *mumble mumble spoilers*.
Eh, I wouldn’t call it “no outside influence”, even though almost everyone has been very, very nice about keeping away from any specific spoilers. I still talk to people, and that will inevitably colour my perception. For example: while I was hoping it wouldn’t be quite... this, I did know that 5A had a bit in it that very few people seemed to like, so I was braced for impact there. It might have taken me a lot longer to get out of the “wtf” stage if I hadn’t known I would have to do it beforehand *g* But I do like to think that I’m not exactly overreaching myself with these observations.
Hook’s backstory was just... mildly confusing at best. The only (very tenuous) connection seems to be “he had a choice to do the decent thing back then, and didn’t, so now he knows better”, but I think that could have been told better in a flashback that at least foreshadows his last-minute change of mind in some way.
That’s something I didn’t even really get into--Hook’s decision is written so badly that the lasting impression is that he decided to kill all of Emma’s friends and family on a whim, and then decided to take it back in much the same way. Like... I’m not exactly the guy’s biggest fan, but he suffered as much from the patchwork-job writing in this season finale as anyone else.
{Quick request to anyone reading: I’m watching OUaT for the first time, and I want to avoid spoilers. So, if you want to discuss something spoilery, I’d be grateful if you could start a new post for that. Thank you!}
