Chapter 4 "Diner Reunions" (Head Shots | Sniper x Reader)
“This is my suit?!?” I had opened up a box sent to me from Ms. Pauling. My “android” suit looked like something straight out of a cheesy comic that I would’ve written. It came with a mask, with black lenses attached to the visor and a golden metal lining. Green paint donned the right and left sides of the mask, completing a circle. A green streak came from the top and touched the visor. The rest of the armor was red, with yellow, puzzle pieces of arm and leg wear. The right arm had a green keyboard.
What’s that for? My brain asked. I shrugged. I didn't even know. The box came with red boots that had green ankle bracelets with a small, flat circle connecting the two ends together. The two gloves had green fingertips and small lines going through.
It was a nasty piece of art!
Was it even art???
I don’t know!!!
My weapons consisted of a nunchuck, a pistol, and black wire. And you heard me right, ONE nunchuck. Not a pair! ONE nunchuck. Some ninja business this was. There was a knock on the door and I mumbled, “Come in.” Mundy opened the door.
“I see you got the suit,” he said. I scoffed.
“Yeah, it’s pretty gross,” I said. I held it up for Mundy to see. He groaned, flinching back.
“Wot was Pauling thinking?” he asked.
“I asked the same question,” I responded. “I’m known as the Operative.” I held up the symbol that went on the belt. It was like a flattened, rectangular trophy. “Now I’m regretting coming to Teufort,” I whined. Who knew I’d end up doing this!
“Ah, don’t say that, Sheila,” Mundy said. “It’s noice havin’ ya here.” I blushed.
“I guess so,” I added. “I’m going to make big bucks, even if I look like some sauce or flag.” Mundy laughed.
“Put it on,” he said. I frowned. “Oi think you’ll make it look noice.” I chuckled dryly, going into the restroom. I slipped on the top armor and then the lower armor. I put on the arm and leg armor, doing the boots next. I slipped on the mask, which activated. I was now able to see the distance and a whole lot of other things. “Oi, Sheila, you finished?” I came out looking like a hot sauce bottle.
“What do you think?” I asked, turning around. I put my hands on my hips. “Feel the intimidation?’ Mick chuckled.
“Keep the energy store for the battlefield,” he said, patting my back. “Let’s show the others.”
Yeah, let’s show the others, so they can laugh at us, my brain mocked.
Shut it, he’s just trying to be nice.
Yeah, I’m not buying it. He’s gonna laugh along with the others. I shook my head.
Mick’s not like that.
“Hey, is that a bottle of Tapatio?” Scout asked, popping his head in. I frowned.
What did I say?
"Get out ya bloody bloke,” Mundy said, grabbing Scout’s hat and slamming the door on him. “There, so he can’t bother ya.” I blushed.
“That was nice of you,” I replied. “But that was only the beginning. He’s gonna make jokes on the battlefield.” Mundy scoffed.
"Oi won’t let him say anything,” he said. “If he does, he’ll end up drinking something worse than Bonk.” I laughed. Mundy told me of his jar based karate, which he called Jarate. I was warned to stay away from the urine.
“Oh, you’re a funny guy,” I said, removing the helmet. I wiped the sweat off my forehead. “I’m hungry, let’s get something to eat.”
“Engineer said that the food wasn’t gonna be ready until later,” Mundy said, opening the door. “I know a great, little diner near Teufort.” I licked my lips.
"Sounds like a great place to eat,” I said. “When can you get the van fired up?” I asked. Mundy smiled.
“Give me two minutes,” he replied. He ran off. I shook my head, chuckling. I removed the entire suit and changed into clean clothes. I pulled my hair back, straightening the loose hair. Mundy walked back in. “Car’s ready.” I followed the sniper downstairs. We went out back. The van was parked next to Engie’s truck.
'I call shotgun!” I exclaimed. I jumped in the passenger seat. Mundy followed, taking his seat as the driver. “Buckle up,” I said, clicking the seat belt. He softly chuckled, buckling up. Mundy stuck his key into the ignition and the van came to life. He backed out slowly from the base and drove out of the mountainside.
Pauling had us move into a base near Thunder Mountain. It was hidden from the BLUs. The enemy spy snuck in so many times at the known bases, he was almost fired. It was embarrassing for the both of us to get caught. I didn’t want to do anything with him, but yet he kept coming back. Luckily, Mundy scared him off like a dog would do to a cat.
We drove past the desert until we came across the small diner Mundy was talking about. He parked the van in the dusty parking lot. We both jumped out and entered.
"Hi, how may I help you?” a friendly waitress asked.
“We’d like to dine in for a party of two,” I answered. She smiled, grabbing two menus.
“Follow me,” she said. The waitress led us to a booth near the window. We sat down and our waitress put down the menus. “What kind of drinks would you like?” she asked.
"Oi’ll take a bottle of Coke,” Mundy said.
“I’ll have f/c with easy ice,” I replied. The waitress smiled and wrote our orders down.
“Alright then, I’ll be back with your beverages in just a minute,” she said. “If you are ready to order, just tell me. My name is Susan.” I looked at the menu.
"What are ya ordering?” Mundy asked.
“I’ll take a hamburger with the caesar salad,” I responded. “It seems healthy.”
“Oi want the hot dog and fries,” Mundy said. “We can share the fries.” I blushed a little.
A man sharing his fries with you, how romantic.
Brain, you don’t need to say it so sarcastically, I mentally replied. Susan came back with our drinks, setting them down before us.
“Alright,” she said, pulling out her notepad. “Are we ready to start ordering?” I nodded.
“I’ll take the hamburger,” I said.
“Will that be with the fries or salad?”
“Salad,” I answered. Susan wrote that down.
“How about you, mister?” she asked.
“Oi will have the hot dog with the side of fries,” Mundy replied.
“Will that be all?” Susan asked.
“Yes,” Mundy and I answered.
“Alrighty then.” She grabbed our menus and walked into the kitchen.
“It’s fun hanging out with you,” I said, turning my attention to Mundy. “You have no idea how dull and boring my life was before meeting you.” He chuckled.
“Oi loike ya,” he said. “It’s noice to know there’s someone who’ll have your back.” The entrance door opened and the BLU spy walked in.
Hooray! A date ruined by this man!I groaned.
“Ah, hello mon amis,” he said, walking over to us. He wasn’t wearing his mask. The only way I could tell it was the BLU spy is because he smelled like him. Mundy stood up.
"Wot are you doing here?” he asked. Spy chuckled, holding up his hands.
“I came with ze Engineer to order our lunch,” he replied. “I’m off duty, so I can’t really harm ‘ou.” Dell walked in.
“Hey Spah, I-.” His voice trailed off as he noticed me. “Y/n! What are you doing here?” he happily asked. I forced a smile on my face.
“Dell, long time no see!” I exclaimed, standing up. “Bud, where have you been?” He chuckled.
“Ah see that Chevy finally let ya out,” he said, hugging me. I nervously chuckled.
"Yeah,” I replied. “He decided it was time to let me go.”
“‘Ou two know each other?” Spy asked. Dell smiled, pulling away.“Y/n is like my sister,” he replied. “Our parents knew each other. We grew up together in (hometown).”
"Tell me more, Y/n,” Spy said, taking a seat next to Mundy. “We have time and besides, it’s a ceasefire day.” I gulped.
Uh oh.
