Lions QB Matthew Stafford Selling Luxe Lakefront Mansion in Michigan for $6.5M
realtor.com, Leon Halip/Getty Images
Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is moving on from his contemporary mansion in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The home, which overlooks Upper Long Lake, is now on the market for $6.5 million.
The listing details proclaim it “Michigan’s most magnificent estate!” While there’s a dash of hyperbole in that statement, Stafford’s mansion is worthy of an end-zone dance.
It’s gated, private, and sits on a little over an acre of land, with more than 440 feet of lake frontage. The rear of the home faces right out onto the lake, which gives the whole residence spectacular water views.
Built in 1980 and renovated in 2016, the home has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and 7,720 square feet of living space.
As you enter the home via the two-story foyer, you’ll be wowed by the walls of windows and the granite floors. The chef’s gourmet kitchen is outfitted in quartzite, with two islands, countertop seating, and Wolf stainless-steel appliances.
The ultra-luxe master suite is located on the first floor, with an exquisite marble bathroom, a coffee bar, and a glass elevator to all three floors of the home.

Other highlights of this baller pad include what’s claimed to be the largest infinity-edge pool in Michigan, an indoor half-basketball court made from hardwood used on the Detroit Pistons home court at the Silverdome, five fireplaces, an outdoor BBQ, a 625-bottle, temperature-controlled wine cellar, hot and cold plunge baths, as well as a sauna and steam room.
The lower level includes a walkout to the gorgeous green backyard.
The sleek, modern manse is within an easy drive to shops, restaurants, and schools—and it’s only 30 miles from Ford Field.
While Stafford is reportedly looking for a different home in Michigan, away from a body of water, he does have a couple of other options.
He owns a home in Atlanta that he purchased in June 2017 for $3.8 million, as well as a $5.4 million estate that he purchased in August 2018 in Newport Coast, CA.
Stafford, 32, has played his entire 11-year career for the Detroit Lions and led the team to three playoff appearances. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and has thrown for over 41,000 yards in his career, but has yet to lead the Lions to a postseason win.
Jeff Barker with Max Broock has the listing.

9 Best Rooftop Bars In The U.S.
One of the best ways to finish off a great evening out is with music, drinks and dancing at an amazing rooftop bar overlooking an electric skyline.
The view, the ambiance and the people all work together to make for a great experience. Here are some of the top-rated rooftop bars in the United States.
Westlight (Brooklyn, New York)
The revival of Brooklyn has turned it into a foodie capital and now a nightlife capital as well. Westlight presents a chic lounge with premier views of Manhattan from 22 floors up, while pairing Andrew Carmellini’s food with Anne Robinson’s intriguing original cocktails. Westlight is open all year, but it is at peak rooftop partying status during the warmer months.
P.O.V. Rooftop Lounge at the W (Washington, D.C.)
There is no better view of our nation’s landmarks without flying over the city. P.O.V. Rooftop Lounge is swanky and known for offering a chance to rub elbows with D.C.’s in-crowd. The bar features delicious seasonal drinks made with locally-sourced berries.
Cindy’s Rooftop (Chicago, Ilinois)
Cindy’s Rooftop bar is the place to be at happy hour. With views of Lake Michigan and Millennium Park, guests enjoy Cindy’s “Potions and Elixirs” such as “We’ll Always Have Paris” and “Grey Garden.” The most popular local brews, “Great Lakes, Edmund Fitzgerald Porter,” and “Off Color Tooth & Claw, Dry Hopped Lager,” are always a hit. Diners at Cindy’s Rooftop enjoy one of the best menus in Chicago.
Pearl’s Rooftop on the Sunset Strip (West Hollywood, California)
Los Angeles in the Roaring ’20s is alive again at Pearl’s Rooftop. Keep cozy near the fireplace while enjoying the stunning view of the Sunset Strip. A “Pink Pearl” cocktail is a tart, sweet mix of gin and Prosecco. Pearl’s menu features treats from half-pound burgers to ahi tuna-stuffed avocado. You never know which A-lister you’ll be hanging out with at Pearl’s.
Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails at Motif (Seattle, Washington)
Billed as the hippest rooftop bar in the northwest, Frolik Kitchen fills its 4,000 square foot space with roaring fireplaces, ping-pong tables and shuffleboard courts just a few feet from its posh, candle-lit bar overlooking the brilliance of Seattle’s downtown. Whether you go for one of the Pacific Northwest’s best local brews or accept the dare to try the specialty of the house cocktail, the “Troublemaker,” there’s nothing but great times for everyone at Frolik Kitchen.
Sugar at East (Miami, Florida)
There are few party towns like Miami, and Sugar at East is the place to hold your party in Miami. This Asian-influenced hotel has a 270-degree view of the city 40 floors up. Partiers love the garden décor and designer cocktails to match.
9 Mile Station (Atlanta, Georgia)
The rooftop of Atlanta’s old City Hall building is now a beer garden and much, much more. Enjoy 9 Mile Station‘s sumptuous menu offerings ranging from BBQ chicken to lamb Bolognese, whole fish, or silly sausages by the inch featuring bratwurst, merguez and kielbasa. Or treat your group of four to the 9 Mile picnic-basket at Skyline Park next door for carnival games and the best view of Atlanta’s shimmering cityscape.
Linger (Denver, Colorado)
Known for nightlife and its weekend Bears and Brunch, Linger is one of the liveliest bars in Denver. Well known for its eclectic fusion of gourmet global street foods, you’ll enjoy mixes of East Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin dishes. Don’t forget to taste their Mongolian barbecue duck buns or Yellowfin tuna tacos. Your drinks come from their Bar-V, which is a repurposed 1975 hippie RV. Their cocktails are as fun and funky as their food. There’s nowhere better to enjoy the Rocky Mountain high.
El Techo de Lolinda (San Francisco, California)
Nightlife with an Argentinian twist in the Mission District is all the rage. Take in the city while sipping your Bloody Maria or enjoying a pitcher of sangria with small plates of ceviche and empanadas. El Techo de Lolinda is popular from brunch bashes to a late night rendezvous.
Rooftop bars are hotter than ever and everyone can look forward to a great night out in just about any big city in the United States. Salut!

48 Hours in Aspen: The Ultimate Travel Guide
The ultimate 48 hour travel guide to Aspen, Colorado. I’ll show you where to stay, what to eat and what to do!
Last month I crossed a new destination off my travel bucket list: Aspen! While I’ve been to Colorado many times over the years, I typically always head to Denver, Boulder or Vail.
Not only was this my first visit to Aspen, but this was my first time ever skiing in Colorado! I couldn’t wait to find out how it compared to skiing in Park City and Banff. (I already knew it wouldn’t compare to skiing in Michigan, that’s for sure.)
Of course, I quickly learned that there’s so much more to Aspen than skiing. In fact, I can easily see why so many people love visiting Aspen year round, both skiers and non skiers.
To kick off my 48 hour travel guide to Aspen, let’s start with where to stay! After having such an amazing experience at the Limelight Hotel in Sun Valley, Idaho, I couldn’t wait to experience their Aspen property.
Right away I felt cozy and at home in their spacious guest rooms, each equipped with a fireplace. Music to this gal’s ear since I always seem to run a little cold.
Similar to Sun Valley, you can start each morning at Limelight Aspen with a complimentary breakfast buffet. Offering both cold and hot items, I was very impressed with the healthy options including hearty oatmeal, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit.
To start your first day in Aspen, head to Four Mountain Sports where they’ll hook you up with ski and snowboard rentals.
Aspen has four ski mountains to choose from: Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands. In general, Buttermilk has the most beginner runs and is the most family friendly. Snowmass offers a good amount of everything and is large so you never get bored.
If you’re an expert skier, head to Aspen Mountain or Aspen Highlands. Since I only ski out west about two times a year, I stick with intermediate runs. As a result, I spent my first day at Snowmass and my second day on Buttermilk.
What I loved most about skiing in Aspen is that the runs are so much longer than anything I’ve ever experienced in the midwest or anywhere else really. Each run would take 20-30 minutes to complete. A far cry from Michigan where you reach the bottom of the hill in 3 minutes.
The other thing that makes skiing in Colorado so special? BLUE SKIES! Offering 300 days of sunshine, there is nothing more beautiful or breathtaking that skiing through packed powder with sun shining on your face.
Ready for a bite of lunch while on the slopes? I have two great recommendations for you starting with Venga Venga Cantina and Tequila Bar located on Snowmass Mountain. The food was authentic and flavorful and the presentation was gorgeous. You can explore the whole menu here.
If you’re spending the day at Buttermilk, be sure to stop in to Cliffhouse Restaurant located right on the mountain. I travel all over the world for a living but it’s rare that I experience such incredible views from a restaurant.
The make-your-own Mongolian BBQ menu is a lot of fun and a great way to refuel during a long day of skiing. I decided to warm up with a rich bowl of pho which was out of this world.
After a long day of skiing, you might be ready to warm up with a hot cup of coffee. Local, a coffee shop in Aspen, is located right downtown just a few minutes away from Limelight. It’s the perfect place to pop in before heading back to the hotel.
When you’re ready to unwind, head back to the Limelight lounge for après drinks and bites. Pro Tip: Order their artisan pizza – it won’t disappoint.
On day two, head to Ajax Tavern located inside The Little Nell hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain to try out their infamous truffle fries. Everyone told me to go here and they were right – they are next level delicious.
When you get back to the Limelight, be sure to check out Aspen’s favorite local bands every Thursday through Monday from 6:30–9:30pm in the lobby. Learn more about menu selections and specials.
Not skiing during your visit to Aspen? No problem. For lunch options downtown, I have two suggestions starting with Clark’s Aspen.
Open year round, Clark’s Aspen offers a wide variety of seafood (think: oysters, lobster rolls, whole roasted fish, etc.), sandwiches, soups and more. It was one of my favorite meals of the trip.
Another great option for lunch downtown is Pyramid Bistro. A nutritarian restaurant, each dish on the menu offers as much nutrients as possible per calorie. How incredible is that? I was blown away by the curry dishes and the fresh rolls.
If you’re looking for a sweet treat in Aspen, look no further than Paradise Bakery. They’ve been serving their famous cookies since 1976 and I’m here to tell you – they are soft, chewy and perfectly balanced with salt and sweet. I decided to buy a bag to bring home to my boys.
For dinner, I have a couple options depending on what you’re craving. If you’re a sushi and Asian food lover like I am, head to Kenichi. Pro Tip: Order the shishito peppers. You’ll be glad you did.
Offering a small plates menu of sushi, sashimi, salads, entrees and more, every dish was inventive and flavorful.
My second dinner recommendation in downtown Aspen is Meat and Cheese Restaurant. Located on Restaurant Row, this gem is a hybrid specialty food store and restaurant.
While the menu offers everything from salads to sandwiches to entrees and more, my favorite were the share boards. The menu changes seasonally but I am confident you won’t be disappointed with whatever you order.
After dinner, before hitting the town, I highly recommended getting your namaste on at Aspen Shakti. Lucky for me, I happened to be visiting on a day that coincided with their Thug Yoga classes. If you love hip hop as much as I do, this class is a blast. Bonus: they include a complimentary beer from Aspen Brewing Company.
Want to skip the yoga and head right to the beer? You can do that too. Aspen Brewing Company is located right down the street.
Craving craft cocktails instead? Head to Hooch craft and cocktail bar located right on Restaurant Row.
Another great option for craft cocktails is Bad Harriet located inside the lower level of Hotel Jerome.
Since I firmly believe you can’t go wrong with a good Bloody Mary, make time to swing into the St. Regis also located downtown. Insider tip: every St. Regis offers their very own signature Bloody Mary recipe. You can sample the Aspen version or try one from around the world.
Last but not least, if you’re ready to end your day with a bang, head to Escobar, Aspen’s premier dance club. Featuring a live DJ most nights of the week, this is the spot to go if you’re ready to get down with your friends.
While I didn’t spend much time shopping during my visit to Aspen, that’s always a great option if you’re not into skiing.
There are certainly no shortage of shops and the entire town is extremely walkable and pedestrian friendly. PS: Notice all that sunshine in my face? Gotta love Colorado!
What cities would you like to see me cover next? Leave a comment below to let me know!
Your passport is waiting.
Disclosure: Limelight Hotels hosted my hotel accommodations. Photography by Alejandro Photography. All thoughts are my own.

Snowmaggedon
I have lived in the Boston area, getting weather down from Newfoundland. I have lived in Michigan, getting the Montreal Express of winter weather. And I have lived out here in the Puget Sound area since 1976. I have been in snowfalls that have time between the flakes for one to examine a photo of one flake at a time. (Ok a slight exaggeration, but you know the lazy slow one flake at a time fall) I have been in fierce blizzards that knocked out power for days. But never have I been in snowfall like this. Day after day of snowfall, gentle, inexorable snowfall.
Vance went to the Safeway. The roads were OK (some of the other drivers forgot to notice the ice under the snow, so they thought 55 was a safe speed. Well, as the commercial says, “If your brakes won’t stop you, something else will”. The trick is to not be the something else! He got to the parking lot and then could not stand up on the ice in the lot. Neither could anyone else. He decided that the loot made from suing Safeway for an injury after a fall, was not worth the pain and hospital time! So he sat back into the car and left empty handed. OK salt is bad for the fishes in the Sound, but sand is at least something to provide traction.
I feel like the Queen of the arctic when I look out. A foot of snow piled on our BBQ! and 100% chance of more snow by 3 this afternoon. The fireplace is fabulous, the house is war, we have electricity, and the freezer has food for linner (Large meal eaten around 3 pm) Our neighbors call each other to be sure we are all OK. I called to rearrange a dentist’s appointment, and they were closed due to snow. They say this will continue all week. We may go to Leavenworth, up in the mountains to shop, as they know how to make certain a parking lot is clear and safe. Very strange indeed!! Wherever you are, prepare for Valentine’s Day, by feeding your cardiac brain, and your mesentery brain as well. Love is a grand thing to fill fill all of us. Not Passion, nor lust, but LOVE.

Killing time while my kid intentionally takes forever to eat her dinner in order to delay bedtime: a memoir.
Questions not usually asked

Yes, my dad made sure I knew how to take care of myself. 32: Ever gotten a speeding ticket? HA, yeah... just a couple weeks ago, actually. 33: Ever ran out of gas? Yes. Thankfully, every time has been while I was on my way to/pulling into the gas station. 34: Favorite kind of sandwich? I don’t really like sandwiches very much, to be honest. But if I want one, I want a huge pile of grilled cheese sandwiches :) 35: Best thing to eat for breakfast? eggs scrambled in butter w/ diced avocado. 36: What is your usual bedtime? whenever I get to it. 37: Are you lazy? yes, but I don’t like to be. I work hard against my natural inclinations. 38: When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? most of the time I didn’t because my mom didn’t take me trick or treating... instead I had to go to our church “harvest party”. So I generally only went when it fell on the weekends I was at my dad’s. And I dressed up as whatever I felt like? I really don’t remember. I’m old. 39: What is your Chinese astrological sign? uh... my star sign is Cancer & I was born the year of the Dog. That’s all I know. 40: How many languages can you speak? I speak English (like, super good!). & I limp my way through French in the most painfully embarrassing way. 41: Do you have any magazine subscriptions? no 42: Which are better legos or lincoln logs? Lego 43: Are you stubborn? Absolutely. 44: Who is better...Leno or Letterman? I don’t care. 45: Ever watch soap operas? No 46: Are you afraid of heights? oh yes. terrified. 47: Do you sing in the car? Always. 48: Do you sing in the shower? Nope, showers are strictly business. 49: Do you dance in the car? yeah, it’s happened. 50: Ever used a gun? I have. But not on a person. 51: Last time you got a portrait taken by a photographer? Last November at my sister’s baby shower. 52: Do you think musicals are cheesy? Yes. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! 53: Is Christmas stressful? No. It’s exhausting, sure (It’s usually AT LEAST 3 full days of celebrating - I have a lot of family). But I love Christmas! 54: Ever eat a pierogi? You bet I have! I married a (mostly) Polish guy and live within driving distance of Hamtramck (which, until recently, was a mostly Polish city). 55: Favorite type of fruit pie? apple or cherry 56: Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid? teacher, engineer, actor, writer, hockey player 57: Do you believe in ghosts? I don’t claim to know if they exist, but I think it’s unlikely 58: Ever have a Deja-vu feeling? sure 59: Take a vitamin daily? no. I probably should. But I try to eat a wide variety of whole foods, so hopefully that’s enough 60: Wear slippers? if my feet are cold. 61: Wear a bath robe? nope, I just throw on a hoodie 62: What do you wear to bed? leggings or pj pants. and a tank top. 63: First concert? I can’t remember 64: Wal-Mart, Target or Kmart? Target 65: Nike or Adidas? do not care 66: Cheetos Or Fritos? Well, last summer my dream of seeing Emery live came true, so honestly if I never go to another concert again, I’d still be happy. But given the choice, Thrice or Flight of the Conchords 79: What was the last concert you saw? Last August, my husband & I drove 9 hours from SE Michigan to E Philadelphia, PA to see Emery play an exclusive acoustic show with only about 30 other people. It was in a coffeehouse’s warehouse & it was almost 100*F, but it was hands down the best time ever. 11/10 - would do it again. 80: Hot tea or cold tea? TEA. any tea.
