Rewatching Top Chef Las Vegas because it is on Netflix, and from what we are shown, Michael Voltaggio is such a manipulative, gaslighting douchebag. Which I vaguely remember thinking when it first aired, but now 15 years later with less focus on the competition part of it while viewing, it is so obvious. Bryan Voltaggio being the wildly more popular brother as a person makes so much sense.

The New York New York Casino is certainly…something. This is a fever dream, off-brand version of New York where they don’t even get the typeface for the subway right as seen in this Christopher Street subway sign that you notice upon walking into the casino. 

I was immediately reminded of the Top Chef Las Vegas episode “Strip Around the World” where the remaining cheftestants needed to be inspired by specific casino resorts around The Strip. Some of them received good assignments like The Bellagio and The Mirage, while others were stuck with places like Circus Circus and New York, New York. Even the producers couldn’t make the former look good on TV with burned-out neon lights and just a general air of despair, while Michael Voltaggio spent as little time in the casino area as possible because the images of him inside are so short  you’ll miss them if you blink. 

I could totally see this place being a fun alternative if you’re on the younger side, especially since the rollercoaster runs both inside and outside the property, but I left feeling grateful we were staying at the Cosmo. Yes, it’s also extra, but it at least is a place that has amenities that speak to me so well.
