can’t talk about it
[ID: Black and white comic of Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun Maximum. The comic starts with the sounds "thud, thud, click". Vash, mid-action of peeling an apple, turns to the sound, noticing who it was that entered, and says, "Oh, Wolfwood, you're back." He resumes back to his apple in the next panel as he speaks, "Where'd you go? You snuck out of bed quickly this morning..." Wolfwood's hand then enters the panel, hovering over Vash's cheek and Vash looks up as Wolfwood asks, "Can I?" Vash responds, "Not going to talk about it?" while using a hand to gently hold Wolfwood's hovering hand and presses a kiss to his inner palm.
Vash then gets up fully, setting down the knife down on the table and the apple onto a plate, He leans into Wolfwood as Wolfwood explains, "Had to meet someone. Nothing interesting to talk about." Vash kisses Wolfwood's left cheek and a hand moves to cup his other cheek while muttering, "You're being vague." Wolfwood says neutrally, "If yer really that curious, keep askin'. We can talk about that instead of doing this." Vash leans back and responds, "Let's talk after, since... You look so tired."
The panel pans to a close up of Wolfwood's downcast eyes, bags heavy underneath his eyes. He doesn't allow Vash to sit in that moment for long though, then saying, "Yer not helping, Spikey. Being all slow with it... I could fall asleep right now." He moves his hand to start unclasping Vash's coat, starting from his collar. Vash with red cheeks, responds briskly, "Oh, shut up. I'm worried about you. I can't be worried?"
The final shot shows Wolfwood's back to the viewer while Vash's softened expression can be seen as he holds gently onto the side of Wolfwood's face and a hand firm on his waist. Wolfwood responds, "I'm fine, seriously," pausing for a moment before continuing, "Is it okay to still..?" Vash responds, "Yeah, it's okay."
The next image is a shot from later that night after the previous comic. Vash and Wolfwood are now in bed, half naked. Wolfwood's buries his face into Vash's chest, his arms wrapped around him, while Vash is petting at his hair. Vash reminds him, "Hey. You said we'd talk about it." Wolfwood pauses for a moment before piping up, "In the morning? I'm sleepy." Vash says, "Okay..."
The next two pages start from the morning after. Wolfwood is already fully awake, pulling on his outer jacket as he says to Vash, whos' still bundled in his blankets, "Breakfast is on the table. Make sure to eat it. I'm going to grab some things in town and then we're leavin'. Got it?" Vash says, "Mh." Wolfwood responds, "Good. See ya in a bit." The dialogue starts to shift into Vash's inner thoughts now, as he gets up and eats toast, thinking, "Wait. Weren't we supposed to... talk about it?" The next shot then shows him fully up, meeting Wolfwood in town. He carries a half worried expression with him while Wolfwood slides on his glasses for him. A quick panel shows Wolfwood's tired expression from the night before and quickly juxtaposes with Wolfwood in front of him who's smiling gently, the shades covering his eye bags. Wolfwood asks him, "Still not awake yet?" Vash pauses, his thoughts stirring, thinking, "Oh. I guess I was getting ahead of myself... thinking you owe me that kind of honesty." He smiles at Wolfwood and responds, "I'm awake!" His thoughts continue, "Maybe one day, you'd trust me enough to share your burdens."
The final image shows Wolfwood pulling at Vash's cheek and Vash complains, "Owwwww why..." Wolfwood quickly says, "You were thinking something stupid, right? It's all over yer face." Vash mutters, "Nooo, I wasn't..." END ID]

the little tidbits they keep adding about Micheal’s Vulcan upbringing are making me wish we got more of that in seasons 1&2. Season 1 set it up and S2 had the chance to take it further and then dropped anything that had to do with her familial or social dynamics on Vulcan outside of her relationship with Spock.
What we do get is so fascinating. It’s so interesting how her and Spock are two sides of the same coin- we got her reminiscing about her days at the VSA meanwhile Spock was the one who attended Starfleet Academy and bonded with Una over it - but she’s the human and he’s the half-Vulcan Vulcan, and she, the child who embraced logic, is the one that ultimately leaned toward emotion, and Spock, the rebel child, was the one who was steadfast in being guided by logic (with emotion)
#star trek discovery#michael burnham#(Spock is the rebel child in Sarek’s eyes)#once again wishing this wasn’t Burdened By Canon#and even then did it need to be?#we got so little because of the fear of adding it more than the any conflict it would cause#it’s the stupid little things#like why does Spock think marshmallows are called marshmellons#did Michael have friends growing up???#who the fuck knows

Documentary Now! x “Solider of Illusion” (prods. Rhys Thomas & Alex Buono).
Scripted by comedian John Mulaney and starring Alexander Skarsgård as a very funny [Werner] Herzog analogue, “Rainer Wolz”, as both a young and old man, the big ridiculous satirical twist is the supposed documentation of filming not some sort of awards-y dramatic film but a very hokey three-camera 1980s CBS sitcom pilot called “Bachelor Nanny” [...] filmed for absolutely no reason high up on a remote and very dangerous wilderness mountaintop village somewhere in Siberia in the company of an Indigenous tribe.

arghhh Ex Machina is my favorite movie and I realllly want to write some sort of film analysis on it because like:
just look at the sheer symbolism of the name Ex Machina being taken from "deus ex machina" or "god from the machine", an old trope from classical theater. in the original sense of the term, it referred to the heroes being mystically whisked away from their troubles or opponents by the means of a chair descending from Heaven to take them away
In the movie, Ava gets two of these.
The most obvious form of the deus ex machina comes at the very end, in which Ava is carried away from her prison by a helicopter. Quite literally, a chair descended from the sky to lift her away from her troubles.
But long before this, she receives her first deus ex machina: Caleb. He's the first to ever visit her (besides Nathan, who invented her), and eventually becomes the key figure in allowing her to escape her prison. He also descends from the "heavens" - the same helicopter that comes to take Ava away at the end of the movie. There's even one scene comparing him to an angel, by winglike scars that can be seen on his back: another stroke of symbolism to represent his apparent descent from heaven.
What I find particularly clever about this symbolism is how it's hidden in plain sight. If Ava were presented as the lead character, if the story were told from her perspective rather than Caleb's, it would be almost laughably obvious how things seem to line up for her to use as tools in her escape. First Caleb, then the chopper. One deus ex machina after another.
But Ava isn't presented as the main character. Caleb is. We're getting the angel's point of view, not the hero's. And so what would be a classical tale of the hero being whisked away from their adversaries is instead transformed into a story of a lonely man seeking companionship. The overarching themes of loneliness and betrayal, along with the confusion of what defines humanity, masks the blatant symbolism right in front of everybody's eyes! The literal deus ex machina that takes place not once, but twice throughout the movie!
#movies#film#film analysis#ex machina#domhnall gleeson#oscar isaac#i also want to write an essay on how AHS' Michael Langdon is a symbol for Gen Z#(specifically how the older generations constantly place the burden of “fixing the world” on Gen Z when they are perfectly capable...#...of making a different themselves as well)

Michael ran away after Evan died from the bite. Because while William was still kind to him and kept reassuring him it was an accident. Michael didn't like the look in his eyes. And combined with the guilt of killing his brother he decided to leave the home
#he didn't want to be a burden and william was scaring him#basically#honestly honestly kinda wish i could choose which posts show up in the main tags and which dont#im just talking for fun over here#Michael did work in the 90s location as the nightguard#im not sure yet if he was in the 87 location though. or any others#Michael and William never saw each other while working at the 90s location i dont think#but i think theyd avoid eachother if they knew the other was there?#does Michael know william did the murders?#it depends on henry found out and if henry told him#man i should rly develop that detail more#darlingsfnafau#darlingsfnafau: lore rambles#michael afton#fnaf

ok, so, the first 3 books on your top5 hatelist i totally agree with. although the only one i've actually read front to back was 13 Reasons Why, it's understandable to feel nothing but contempt for that book, especially in the wake of that godawful show that never should've been given 4 seasons, much less greenlit in the first place!
never bought ready player one, but i read half of a friend's copy and listened to my favorite booktubers critique it. saw the movie mostly for olivia cooke. ngl, mr. cline feels like an incel who somehow got lucky by latching onto the 80s pop culture revival a few years ago. too cringey for me.
hemlock grove is an odd one, because i got introduced through the show (hello fanke janssen and bill skarsgard!) when netflix first became an online streaming service. what can i say about it other than GROSS! that series just makes me viscerally disgusted.
the other two i have not had the misfortune of reading, but i will take your word for it and stay way.
13RW GOT HOW MANY SEASONS, ive had that black listed since i finished the book 💀
im sorry to be the one to tell you this, but Netflix's Hemlock Grove live action series was worlds better than Brian McGreevy's books. Did the show follow the books? yeah! almost exactly! until the dinosaur baby, HOWEVER. THE BOOKS. God. okay the line that really stuck with me was "go suck an egg" and "go eat a tampon" what the fuck lol also i forget all their names but skarsgards sister? in the books? she gets out of the abusive family (YAY) by *checks notes* running away and marrying a 30 year old man. she is 16 years old. this is seen as a happy ending.
like the show was awful it sucked (mire than eggs) but it was awful in an entertaining way! you could laugh at how awful it was! if netflix hadnt removed it i probably wouldve rewatched the last season because the dino baby is HILARIOUS. The book was disgusting. Skarsgards character was a rapist but we loved him for it. Why, after nearly 10 years was this the book that stuck in my head.
#ezrs gets a letter#ezra reads hemlock Grove#i feel like everyone knows how bad rpo is by now#yeah incel nostalgic fantasy lmaaoo#gone by michael grant had an autistic character and they treated him SO POORLY#it was DISGUSTING#and that coupled with that time he said in twitter children (PARTICULARLY AUTISTIC CHILDREN) are a burden#i dont trust him i dont like him i will not read anything else by him#also apparently the Plot Twist in that series is Aliens
