So last night I ran another bracket for Merfight, and due to player overlap with other brackets the grand finals ended up being the last match of the night for the event as a whole, running past midnight when everyone else had left.

I was tempted to throw at times so we could just go home, but I pushed through and after a full ten game set I got first place.

Side note: Something I find funny is how people gravitate to the top tiers in Merfight when I bring it out. Like they're coming in to the game with no prior knowledge, as an indie game there's also no quick up to date clickbait tier lists to quickly google, and they end up picking some of the best characters in the game just off of vibe.

Updated the wiki for Merfight with information on Arctina since she's the main character I play as, then realized this will make me notably easier to counter at an upcoming tournament with every other character still having all placeholder text on their wiki page.

But maybe I can turn this to my advantage and wait until after an upcoming tournament to share the details on how to play the characters I don't like fighting and make the page for the new DLC character I obviously have less experience fighting. Or you know, put the good of the game over my own tournament results.

Taking a moment to shill one of my favorite indie fighting games while it's on sale. Merfight is a 2D fighter with a cast of Merfolk.

One of the big distinctive mechanics it has is that whenever you gain a bar of super meter like other fighters, you also gain a pop gem that can be used to cancel out of almost any action. So it encourages you to constantly cash in your resources to do cool stuff.

But I know what sells most people here on games are the characters. So here are two I think people here will like.

For single player each of the twelve base game characters has their own story mode that covers each match up, with branching paths based on what you do in certain fights. There are no unlockable characters but there are unlockable outfits and stages via story mode. As well as challenges and a training mode.

Also I say base game because the game has two DLC characters who were added via patch for free. No need to wait for an ultimate edition or sale on a season pass.

The playerbase for the game is small but passionate, definitely the kind of game where you need to arrange online matches instead of random queue, but there is an official discord for that linked in game in the info menu.

Please, play this game and give me more people to talk about the story with. I need you all to see what a petty bitch my girl Arctina is before I destroy you with her.

And as of this writing the game is on sale for only three dollars, which is a total steal. That's less dollars than there are characters in the game.
