The Second Game

Concubines would do anything to assert their position.

Whether it was making themselves look as desirable as possible to gain the Emperor’s favour, or to stage a crime that would remove any of the competition in the lifelong running and gain first place, they would use any means necessary to assure themselves of it.

Yin was never the one to be in the Emperor’s quarters, but he was known enjoy her company and appreciate her sword dances.

That, of course won her many enemies.

Yin faced accusations of many crimes during her time at the palace, but she still never thought that she would have to use her sword skills for defence, not entertainment.

Yet, as she parried with the assassin that tried to strike her from behind, with the sword that always remained on her sash, her mind was quickly making up a plan to dispatch the lady who had sent him to her.

Finally, after what felt like a long time sparring and as the clashes of blade against blade ceased to be, Yin towered over him. Her robes were slashed around the skirt and the sleeves, strands of her hair had come out from under her headpiece and she was heaving with heavy breaths, but she was not the one who was lying defeated on the floor.

She looked up at the clock that sat next to the door, miraculously saved from the duel between the two – unlike the chess table and the wardrobe that held all her lovely clothes in it. She sighed. She would have to ask the emperor for another loan for her wardrobe.

Yin leaned down to assassin, balancing the tip of her sword the floor as she did so. “Funny…My first encounter with an assassin, I thought it would be more of a challenge. My parents are so silly.” She tilted her head, looking thoughtful. “Or clearly…the empress must not have thought that much of me.”

Yin shook her head, her brown tresses swinging side to side. “Oh well. I suppose she’ll answer to that tomorrow. Now then…”

She tossed her sword up by the edge of the hilt and it rotated in the air before she caught it handle first. Her eyes bore into the pain-filled ones of her ambusher. “The emperor’s justice would ask if you would prefer your money or your life, depending on if you wish to tell the truth. I’m sure you’ll think very carefully on that one. My justice is not that dissimilar to his, so you ought to find me merciful this time. 

“Although, if I were a noble lady of a different kind, say, that of the empress of Hulin, my justice would be much different.”

Her blade drifted closer to the assassin’s neck, the tip ever so slightly grazing against his skin and making a small cut in the fabric of his mask. The assassin’s eyes brimmed with fear as a coldness enveloped Yin’s own. “I believe she would ask…would you rather I start with your head, or your heart?”

Also making an executive decision here, that Casity’s body type is akin to Serena Williams, yes.
