solemn vows is the fic that got me into 9-1-1, like I saw a tiktok of yours back in 2022 when s6 was on and was intrigued so I read it in two days and got obsessed with the show and then after I finished the show I read it another two times and now 9-1-1 is my whole life so I just wanted to say thank you. Your fic has legitimately changed my life, as cheesy as that is, and I really love it.
I cannot believe that THEE commander Cody has read my fic 😭🫰
All jokes aside, Solemn Vows is my baby and has been a weird way for me to actually process my own trauma through Eddie. 9-1-1 has brought me to friends and support in the most amazing way possible. I hope the continuation of part 4 does not disappoint 🩷💙💜
I’m so happy that it has touched you and brought you to 9-1-1. Somehow this silly little wee woo show with fruity fire fighters has brought so many people so much joy

When other Yellowjackets fans, majority who are poc themselves, talk about how weird and frustrating it is that the writers introduced a random yte character and gave them a storyline when there were two (technically three but they killed off Lottie even when there was an opportunity for more) woc, who have been around since s1, that could've fit the mold instead (like Mari) and have actual personalities outside of building up/being the lapdog for another character. Or how often times many of the, limited, poc characters are often either treated poorly and killed off, or pushed to the side (Simone, reduced to the disposable black girlfriend trope and is nearly killed by her partner because she's in the way of a ship; Travis, since s1, had his trauma dismissed or ignored and was overly hated but no one talks about how he was SA'd by the girls he's now stuck with on top of having to eat his brother and not be able to grieve over it). How Taissa's whole storyline is just revolving around Van even with all the potential, especially given she's fighting to be free from her own mind, how Lottie's mental illness is treated so poorly as if it's not the butt of a joke then it's met with heavy criticism (and the only time she is met with sympathy for it, it's through the lens of a yte character embodying her and having an emotional conversation with her father). How you can have all of these reasons (and more) for being annoyed by Melissa's character or the direction of the show, and be met with #those fans downplaying these concerns, or just being overly antagonistic just because they find yte character #243 entertaining so obviously these conversations don't have merit. But this fandom has always had an...."interesting" way in which it discussed the poc characters on the show, so I'm not surprised.
#yellowjackets#yellowjackets critical#mind u in the og script lottie was a black girl who had to suffer racial abuse from an old rich yte woman that she never recovered from...#like tai has a premise for such interesting storylines (that don't revolve around yte characters) and the show still does her dirty#and even regarding her relationship why would tai be so dismissive of her family over van? why is there hardly any shaunatai scenes?#a yte woman's introduction to the show being her potentially killing an indigenous woman struggling with mental illness and only for said#woc's death to be discovered through a true crime forum and used for a competition between two yte characters....yeah there's no problem at#all there#like so much of melissa's character feels at the expense of woc who were already established and had more to show for it than her#and it gets so annoying seeing those fans try to skirt around the problem or speak over poc fans when called out#like why does mari receive such hate or lack of understanding in comparison to yte counterparts who do worse than her? i thought the yjs#shouldn't be judged heavily bc they're teenagers going through the unimaginable? or is that mindset not shared with woc?#and im not even getting into how the plot is all over the plsce#like why is the teen timeline (where most of them are going to die) more diverse than the adult? and adding another yte character was#supposed to do what?#lottie matthews#taissa turner#like so much of s1 was about shauna heck even some parts of s2 so i thought maybe s3 would be tai's. nope#yellowjackets spoilers

My brain refuses to let go of the fact that both Melissa and Shauna's actors believe that if circumstances had been different, the girls would have had a really beautiful and true relationship.
Because it is honestly so true! Both girls before the crash were stuck in the shadows, feeling unwanted and very isolated. If they had been able to find each other, they could have brought out the best of eachother.
Shauna was stuck under the shadow of Jackie; puberty and high school causing them both to change but their longlasting friendship and love for eachother forcing them both to not vocalise their insecurities and unhappiness in fear of losing all they had ever known. Desperately, Shauna wanted to be seen and loved as herself, even though she didn't know who that person is.
Meanwhile, Melissa was just a nobody; existing on the sidelines, not wanted nor paid attention to. She has so much to give, but no one will look her way. What she seeks isn't thrill, but the desire to be somthing to someone. She wants to be special in just a single person's eyes.
In Melissa, Shauna would as found someone who didn't see her as an extension to Jackie, who loved her for her broodiness, pragmaticness and sharp edges. In turn, this would have made Melissa feel special, getting to be the person who gets to see this side of Shauna.
The girls are so similar - both living in the shadows and both desiring to be wanted in some capacity. They're also not to dissimilar in personality either, both snarky and sassy, passionate and willing to commit their all. Any other circumstances and they would have been the best thing to happen to eachother, but because of the wilderness instead their love just solidifies their worst tendencies.

Just saw Speak No Evil, the more evil James McAvoy got as the movie progressed, the less clothes he wore and the buffer he got. By the end of the movie he was pretty much hulking out.

This is genuinely how it feels writing part five. I’ve really challenged myself with this finial part, and the prose is like nothing I’ve ever written before. With SV being so interwoven with canon I’m having to find ways to explore a season that, at the end of the day, was not written well or with anyone but Bobby and Buck in mind. I’m excited with what I have planned but every time I pick it back up, I feel like it’s not hitting the mark like it’s meant to and I can’t really move away from it because it’s the first chapter and the catalyst for everything else.
Maybe I should just go back to how I used to write Edmundo Diaz and drink three monsters and write for six hours on a caffeine/sugar high before crashing. That is how I wrote Buck’s departure to Fort Dick and the Interlude chapter.
Me opening up my Solemn Vows Document: can’t wait to work on this. Let me reread what I wrote so I can type more. *fixes grammar mistakes and adds a few words* *finishes reading* okay, I think I’m done for today. *has not actually added anything new to the story 🥲*

My current little brainrot theory on how Melissa is the 8th Survivor is that while everything is arguing about whether to stay in the wilderness or return to home, Shauna makes a deal with the research lady to let her go if she takes Melissa with her. The reason being Melissa's wound is more severe than anticipated and she will die without proper medical aid or something like that.
And then to cover the plan to the others, she spins a lie of some kind like, "Oh, Melissa let the Research lady go, so I killed her for betraying us." Along with some excuse to as why there is no body.
Would explain how they gang remain in the wilderness another winter, why everyone would think Melissa was dead but Shauna knows she's alive (or at least suspects she could be), and also be how Shauna apologises for leaving Melissa & showing some part of her genuinely did like her.

i do think it’s hilarious how half the teenage yellowjackets actors know they have job security for another few years while the rest of the cast has to shiver every time they open a new script bc they might be next

just caught up on yellowjackets, and i have random general thoughts (that im sure other people have said before)!!!
i have no proof fr, but for whatever reason i am convinced that mari is pit girl.
also, i think that the antler queen is a revolving position?? like lottie is the og (obviously) , and maybe van next bc when she was into “the wilderness”… girl that was scary and intense. so maybe lottie or the powers that be passed it off to her for a hot sec as like a thanks for her obedience??? (idk im just talking and i don’t have the best memory so pls correct me) then nat: our gorgeous reluctant, but natural leader, and lastly/now shauna! idk it just randomly reminded me of how in polytheistic religions, different seasons are ruled by a different deity. so maybe it’s a revolving position??
my good diva misty, i believe is something like the hand of the queen or a judge + executioner. kinda like justice personified, trying to keep things in check?? it’s just something about the way she’s drawn to nat, lottie, and shauna in general. maybe i’m overthinking it (real omg i never realized she was holding corn moment) but the way misty and nat’s “friendship” worked, how protective misty was of nat, why she’s so anal about figuring out what happened to lottie, why she’s so fickle about if shauna killed lottie or not. like…what if she’s not just nosey and desperate? what if she subconsciously feels a need to help/serve them?
plus what if it’s her duty to get whatever the wilderness wants, back on track? maybe it really was fate that caused her to accidentally kill nat. what if personal vendetta aside, teen misty remembers and knows that shauna isn’t fit to be the queen? side note: THANK GOD misty finally stuck up for herself to shauna!!! it was a long time coming <3! misty could be shauna’s ONLY punishment (at least that she recognizes), which also makes me think shauna is the new queen bc why does she ALWAYS GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST WHEN SHE DOES TERRIBLE THINGS?? aside from misty (and maybe melissa), she’s basically immune to serious consequences and dying. even the car brakes thing! sure maybe it was a coincidence, but i don’t think it was a coincidence that misty was also there when it happened.
