Last Book: I'm in the middle of Lucy Adlington's Great War Fashion (as in WW1, not bitching fashions for when we inevitably bomb ourselves into oblivion...). One of the best costume histories I've read tbh.

Last Movie: ...probably some Christmas thing? They all merged together.

Last TV Show: Avenue 5. Not particularly memorable but enjoyable enough all the same.

Last Thing I Googled: Marie Trevelyan (Emma Thomas). She wrote a few books on Welsh folklore, and this especially awesome collection of 'grandma-lore' - you know, the kind of stuff your nan says to you about the wind changing or what brings luck, etc. Some of it is really relevant for my project, but it's all kind of fascinating for that 'where does that come from?' vibe. (Like, supposedly the body of a drowned man will always float face down, but a woman will float face up...)

Current Obsession: procrastinating over finishing writing up 'Weird Wales'. *sigh*

@inwersya tagged me in this! Usually I am tragically horrible at finding faceclaims (I’m super picky), but I’ve been super lucky with my Dragon Age children, so that’s who you’ll be getting here.

Sadly I have no good screen shots of Robyn for comparison, since I haven’t replayed DAO on my PC yet, and the pics I got with my phone on the TV are painfully bad, so. Nicole Anderson is the only FC I chose after making my character. I got really lucky with her.

I knew when I made Alex that I wanted him to have Tom as a FC, so this was easy peasy! Remaking him in the CC? Not so easy.

Rosamund Pike as my Inquisitor, Melanie Trevelyan

Like with Alex, I knew I wanted Melanie to look like Rosamund, so again, this was easy to do. She and Alex are good examples of why I don’t usually pick face claims - I either can’t make the character look right in the CC, or I can’t find a rl person to fit the character I made. The struggle is real.

Michael Fassbender as my DAI companion OC Michael “Mic” Brennan

Mic is special, in the sense that he’s an OC of mine that existed before I got into Dragon Age, and who I transplanted there as soon as I realized that he was made for Dorian. So I’ve had Michael Fassbender as his FC for years. Best FC choice I ever made tbh. I haven’t made him in DAI yet, so no in-game image again. But who needs one when you’ve got a FC as good looking as Michael Fassbender anyway.

More than 69,000 jobs and £60 billion private investment in UK offshore wind by 2026

NEWS FEATURES FIRE & SECURITY SUBMISSIONS RESOURCES

New research published by the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) shows that the number of people working in direct and indirect jobs in the UK’s world-leading offshore wind industry is set to rise significantly, from 26,000 currently to over 69,800 by 2026.

Most of the jobs will being created in parts of the country which urgently need levelling up, including the north east of England, Yorkshire and The Humber, East Anglia and Scotland.

The private sector will invest £60.8bn billion across the UK over the next five years in developing, constructing and operating offshore wind projects as the industry expands rapidly to help the Government to achieve its net zero emissions goal. The average annual investment will be £10.1bn between 2021 and 2026, and investment in 2026 alone will reach a peak of £10.6bn.

The Offshore Wind Skills Intelligence Report was commissioned by OWIC’s Investment In Talent Group which was set up as part of the Offshore Wind Sector Deal agreed with Government in 2019. The work has been done by RenewableUK, the National Skils Acaemy for Rail and independent data analysts Opergy Ltd.

The survey is by far the most comprehensive ever conducted in the UK into the full extent of the economic benefits of offshore wind. For the first time it includes direct and indirect jobs as well as self-employed people who make up 14% of the total workforce.

Researchers have compiled the most detailed offshore wind jobs database by inputting thousands of data points from the companies of all sizes, mapping where people are employed, what type of work they do and how the workforce will expand over the next five years. Of the 69,848 jobs by 2026, 40,700 will be direct (nearly 60%) and 29,148 will be indirect (in companies supplying other industries as well as offshore wind).

The highest percentage of responses came from supply chain companies (39%), reflecting the importance of the UK offshore wind supply chain in job creation. 29% came from offshore wind farm developers and operators. 27% were from UK companies involved in manufacturing specialist products for the sector (Original Equipment Manufacturers or OEMs).

Over 80% of offshore wind jobs are currently located outside London and the south east. Scotland currently has the highest proportion (30%), Yorkshire and The Humber has 15%, the north east of England 10% and the east of England also has 10%.

Our forecast shows that regional percentages will be maintained at this level as jobs increase over the course of this decade, providing sustained long-term growth in these areas.

The wide range of jobs includes engineers, project managers, software designers, component manufactures, turbine technicians, welders, deep sea divers, boat crews and helicopter pilots. 79% of these jobs are highly skilled, technical and management roles. Apprenticeships make up 1.8% of the UK workforce, half of which are in Yorkshire and the Humber. The industry has committed to raising this to 2.5% as soon as possible.

The offshore wind industry is looking in particular to fill vacancies for electrical engineers, civil engineers, project managers, surveyors, data analysts and digital specialists in roles based onshore as well as offshore.

At present, women make up 18% of the workforce and the industry has committed to increasing this to at least one-third by 2030 – and to reach a stretch target of 40% if possible.

The survey also shows that the industry currently offers well-balanced range of opportunities for people with skills and qualifications at every level, from GCSEs and A-levels to Higher Education Certificates and Diplomas and university degrees. 71% of the workforce have qualifications in Higher Education (i.e. higher than A-levels or their equivalent in BTECs).

Developing the offshore wind supply chain is a key commitment in the Sector Deal; the industry is investing £100m over this decade on measures to ensure we increase the UK lifetime content of offshore wind farms from 48% currently to 60% by 2030.

The Industry Chair of OWIC Danielle Lane, UK Country Manager for Vattenfall, said: “The UK offshore wind industry employs thousands of people in parts of the country which other sectors fail to reach and which need levelling up the most. This month GE Renewable Energy announced that it will open a massive offshore wind turbine blade manufacturing plant on Teesside, transforming a former steelworks site into a high-tech clean energy powerhouse and boosting our innovative UK supply chain.

“We offer opportunities to people from all backgrounds and with qualifications at every level to work in an industry which is playing a crucial role in tackling dangerous climate change, enabling us to meet the Government’s net zero emissions target as fast as possible.

RenewableUK’s Deputy Chief Executive Melanie Onn, who leads on OWIC’s People and Skills work, said: “We’ll see a surge of tens of thousands of new jobs over the next five years as offshore wind will put the rocket boosters under the UK’s green economic recovery. By investing over £60 billion of private capital between now and 2026, this industry is helping to kickstart our economy after the pandemic”.

“Renewables are creating new opportunities for people across the UK, from school-leavers and graduates to workers leaving fossil fuel industries, and we want to ensure the right training and support is in place to harness all the talent and expertise we’ll need in the transition to clean energy”.

Energy Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan said: “The environmental benefits of our world-leading offshore wind sector are clear to see, but as this study shows we’ll also have tens of thousands more jobs created in the sector in just the next few years alone.

“This is a sector with a bright future and earlier this week we published the Government’s North Sea Transition Deal which sets out how the UK will maximise the huge potential of our natural resources for clean renewable energy and attract more than £60 billion of private investment over the next five years, creating jobs while also ending our contribution to climate change by 2050.”

@cassandrapentayaaaaas sorry this took a few weeks, I’ve been in a bit of a writing slump lately.  I have plans for my Trevelyan between the game and Trespasser (which I’m sure you can guess when you read) so these two prompts go together.  I think I might end up using these when I get to writing this part of her story.

Iam glad to hear that all is well back home. Cullen and I have talked about visiting our families soon.  Although I’ve already exchanged some letterswith his eldest sister, Mia, I admit I’m a bit nervous to meet her and hisyounger siblings.  The same can be saidfor Cullen about you all (tell father and Bennett to be nice when we visitbecause William has already given Cullen the “you hurt my sister and I hurtyou” talk).  I will be sure to let you knowwhen we have an idea of when we’ll be there.

Thereis one thing I must tell you because I’m honestly both excited and terrifiedabout it.  Promise you won’t tell anyoneelse, I want it to be a surprise.  I’mpregnant.  Oh maker, I wish you could’veseen the look on Cullen’s face when I told him. He was so happy he even started crying, which in turn made me cry.

Snowpiercer Season 2 Trailer Reveals Sean Bean’s Role

The following contains spoilers for Snowpiercer episode 10.

Sean Bean heard all your little jokes about how frequently his characters die so for his next role, he’s bringing one back from the dead. 

Moments after Snowpiercer’s first season wrapped on TNT, the network unveiled a first look teaser for Snowpiercer season 2. And in said teaser, Sean Bean emerges as a very important figure in Snowpiercer lore (as teased in the finale). Give the clip a watch below and meet us on the other side for all the spoilers.

That’s right, Sean Bean is none other than than the (presumed) dead Snowpiercer creator and engineer Mr. Wilford. For much of Snowpiercer season 1’s running time, the denizens of the icy post-apocalyptic train believe that the benevolent Mr. Wilford is in the first car, making sure everything runs smoothly. Unbeknownst to them, the real conductor Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) left Mr. Wilford off the train to die at boarding, believing him to be an unfit leader of humanity. Well, unbeknownst to Melanie, Mr. Wilford apparently did not die. Mr. Wilford is doing just fine…and he wants his train back. 

The Snowpiercer season 1 finale reveals that Wilford survived by boarding his original prototype train Big Alice. In that same finale, Big Alice appears, attaches itself to Snowpiercer and grinds both trains to a halt. That’s right, Snowpiercer season 2 is shaping up to be a good-old fashioned train fight. 

Mr. Wilford is a larger-than-life character in the show’s mythos, so showrunner Graeme Manson undoubtedly sought out a big name actor to play him. Bean has had a prolific career in film and on television. The English actor has played iconic figures such as Bond villain Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye, the wayward Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the tragically headless Eddard “Ned” Stark in Game of Thrones. Most recently, Bean portrayed Douglas Bennett on World on Fire.

Mr. Wilford was originally played by Ed Harris in Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer film.

The TV version of Snowpiercer experienced some severe delays on its way to television, largely due to creative differences behind the scenes. That usually doesn’t bode well for a TV project but in this case, the producers of the show were able to use it to their advantage, conceiving of and even filming much of season 2 prior to the first season even airing. That’s how TNT is able to pump up this first look at Sean Bean directly after the first season concluded.

It’s almost as if they want everyone to know that Snowpiercer is on the right track.
