A couple checks into a vacation rental, only to find that the anonymous host likes to play games on its guests. The throwback short film stars Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism) and Noureen DeWulf (Good Girls) as a couple who soon regrets renting this picturesque home for their long-awaited vacation. Megan Freels Johnston, best known for her suburban nightmare THE ICE CREAM TRUCK and the break-up film noir REBOUND directed the short film between feature projects. Here’s an insidious little pulse-pounder that slowly but surely worms its way under your skin. Perfect home-alone viewing this Halloween season.

 Mary (Rene Russo) moves into her family’s new house all alone and waits for them to tie up loose ends to join her. But waiting isn’t so easy and unpacking doesn’t provide the distraction she thought. Presented like a throwback to 70s movies about women ala The Stepford Wives and George Romero's Season of the Witch... with just a touch of Desperate Housewives, the idyllic neighborhood harbors dark secrets. Things take a turn for the worse when the Ice Cream Man (Emil Johnsen), a symbol of youth and good times, starts killing Mary’s neighbors.

 Megan Freels Johnston (who was recently named as a woman in horror to watch by Blacklist) directs with a deft hand and offers up an oddly charming and chilling thriller.

The Ice Cream Truck will be released on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, November 14, via Uncork'd Entertainment. The psychological thriller is currently available on VOD.

Written and directed by Megan Freels Johnston (granddaughter of author Elmore Leonard), the suburban nightmare stars Deanna Russo (Being Human), John Redlinger, Lisa Ann Walter, Emil Johnsen, and Jeff Daniel Phillips (Westworld).

No word on what, if any, special features will be included, but you can watch the trailer here.
