Maybe Mechi's tempted to go after the sanguophage so that he can use it to ensure the survival of those he cares about and not have to outlive them again?

Or on the other hand, perhaps he's unnerved by the thought of them because a sanguophage would definitely outlive their loved ones, unless they kept turning others.
