Mastering KPIs: From Basics to Advanced Metrics
KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, are everywhere in business, but they’re often misunderstood or misused. Having spent years working with teams across different industries, I’ve seen how the right KPIs can drive success, while the wrong ones can create confusion or, worse, false confidence. So, what exactly are KPIs, and how do you make sure you’re focusing on the ones that actually…

How do you measure success?
I’ll be honest. Before my Apple News podcast spotlighted recently-deceased Bertie Bowman as the longest serving Black congressional aide, I had never heard of him. Herbert (Bertie) Bowman was the child of sharecroppers in South Carolina. In 1944, Bowman ran away from home at 13 years old, got a job sweeping the Capitol building’s steps for $2 a week and worked his way up the political ladder.…

Gonna bundle these two questions! (ALSO SPICY AT THE BOTTOM)
Sakura had one 'relationship' and that was/is with Aren Uzumaki.
Some backstory:
On their way back from Chiyo's, Saeko, Enji and Sakura were unable to port back in Tea Country- as the civil war came into full effect, and an embargo was placed on all the major ports in an attempt to cripple trade/starve out the big trading cities/ take control of the capital (which was on the coast).
For a few weeks, Sakura and Co. were prisoners on an enemy ship that captured the previous Daimyo's niece, Unami (now heir apparent, given that the rest of her family was murdered).
On their way towards the capital (for a nice public execution), they were boarded by famed Pirate Captain/Smuggler Aren Uzumaki of The Last Sparrow- who took them aboard along with the rest of the spoils.
As the enemy closed all the ports, Sakura realized they would never make it to land for the foreseeable future and offered her services as a healer for the duration of the war in exchange for Saeko, Enji's, and Unami's safety.
Furthermore, Enji helped Unami cut a deal with Aren, in which he was promised legitimacy and exclusive trading contracts with the South under her future rule. Thus, the Last Sparrow became the Command Center for the Civil War for the next eight months.
During that time, Sakura healed, fought, and hassled Aren into teaching her basic strategy, war, and bureaucracy - something the Captain (and Unami) realized she had a good head for. (Sakura would later serve as Unami's consul after the war).
As for Aren, he is extremely intelligent, shrewd, and a powerful fuinjutsu specialist. He's a respected captain and only chose the pirate/smuggler life after the decimation of the Uzumaki clan. When Konoha didn't come to their aid in time during the third war, Aren swore never to be beholden to a shinobi village and took to the seas, denouncing shinobi-hood.
Sakura approached Aren and asked to spend the night with him on the eve of the last battle, and had an on-again, off-again relationship after the war. Aren's first love was the sea, and Sakura never wanted to be second (or third) place in anyone's life ever again, so while they aren't in any official relationship, they do find themselves in each other's arms when they cross paths. (fun fact, Aren calls Sakura 'Wildflower')
When Kankuro was poisoned, The Last Sparrow (legal now!!!) had fortuitously docked at one of Fire Country's port cities. So they could take that to Suna and cut a week off their travel time.
Kakashi was surprised to see that Aren and Sakura knew each other.
He was very unpleasantly surprised to see HOW well they knew each other. He spent a full week seething- as he watched some sleazy Icha-icha knock-off pirate Lothario take advantage of Sakura.
Once again, thank you so much for the lovely words and all the support for this AU!
SPICY UNDER CUT.
#naruto#haruno sakura#coven!sakura#kakashi hatake#kakasaku#aren uzumaki#As for her piercings Aren's ship has a tradition that any new blood's first successful battle is celebrated with a tattoo or a piercing!#we're grounding shinobi powers in some measure of reality#because someone did the math and canonically they traveled over 3k miles in TWO days to get to Suna#3k miles in two days AND had enough energy to fight S rank nin????????????????????????????#NOT ON MY WATCH#it now takes the average genin/chunnin almost two weeks to get to suna pushing HARD- which is still insane but not quite 'two days' insane#kakashi: crying screaming throwing up#Kakashi is still struggling with recognizing feelings#and he's also struggling to cope with the fact that Sakura lived a whole life that he has no idea about#PLUS all the guilt#also to be very clear Aren did NOT take advantage of Sakura lol that's just kakashi's copium

steddie relationship reveal coming not from the kids walking in on them or accidental pda but because Eddie's combat balance suddenly gets better and they realize it's cause Steve (the better strategist) is helping him with the combat prep. They know it's love cause Eddie threatened to shave Tews and blame it on Dustin the one time he picked up the wrong notebook/no one gets to see Eddie's DnD planning
#steddie#is this anything?#idk eddie just strikes me as the every fight could be a tpk sort of dm sometimes#i think steve would make a good combat dm cause more than strategy he understands that motivations arent always in line with the smart play#like a really good murph battle scene sometimes our motivation and measure of success shouldnt be everyone on the field is dead#sometimes it should be our whole party is alive and weve maybe also achieved a second objective like loot or saving an npc or something

"If you choose a job that you love, it won’t feel like work."
This is the scene where Seok Ryu realizes that a career path can be both fulfilling and professionally rewarding. Although Seung Hyo finds himself in long hours as an architect, he is genuinely passionate about his work. In fact in the previous episode, he said that even if he could swim again, he would still choose to be an architect.
Seung Hyo's dedication to his profession serves as a stark contrast to Seok Ryu's previous experiences. While in Greip, she was overworked and because of it probably hated her job.
As the drama progresses, I think Seokryu will begin to question her previous assumptions about work as a mere means to an end and starts to consider the possibility of finding a career that aligns to her passions and interests.
#so idealistic lol#i do have to disagree with the quote i put up there#i think any job no matter how passionate you feel towards it will feel like work (sometimes in the long run)#however i do believe liking the work you do#will help you keep a positive attitude in the midst of stressful situations.#*edit to add: Don't romanticize overworking#there may be times when a person needs to put in extra effort to meet deadlines or achieve specific goals#however overworking should not be seen as a badge of honor or a measure of success#love next door#kdrama#k:just thoughts

skater tatiana navka liked to get up close & touchy with the blades of her & her partner’s skates. so many lifts where she grips onto the blades or rests her head on his boot. she could not stop touching them. even badly cut her hand once during competition
#i particularly notice this because navka is the sort of ice dancer who has more chemistry with the ice itself than any of her partners#it’s fun to watch navka bc she’s a pure talent & her partners do their best but can never seem to quite measure up#i think she could have been more successful much earlier if she had found the perfect partner with actual chemistry that complimented her#ice dance#figure skating#tatiana navka

#🐉#considering that i was very experimental with my measurements because the recipe recommendations didnt yield the results i hoped for#id call it a success

I think one of the great problems that faces people who are in the industry – within which they have to express themselves – is learning to ignore entirely anyone else’s opinion, especially complimentary opinions because the luxury with being assaulted is that you know instinctively that you’re not to take that onboard because that would affect – in a negative way – what you’re doing. But the same thing could be said for compliments, but they come in sheep's clothing. They invite you to give your sense of self-esteem to someone else because as soon as you start relying upon compliments, then you are giving away your own... I can’t think of the word, but you should be the crux of your own opinion. –Grian Chatten from Fontaines D.C. on Live with KEXP [x]
#every time i hear him speak in an interview i gain a new level of appreciation for him and the band#they are truly refreshing in their outlook and approach to things#his analogies and metaphors are so visceral. comparing compliments and criticism to an 'assault' of sorts is very interesting#that seems to be the age-old question about art though isn't it?#is it good because people like it and connect with it and that's how you measure its success?#or is it successful to you because you're proud of what you've created regardless of how it's received?#people will be quick to praise when they like something that you create but they'll be even quicker to criticize when they don't like it.#and then get angry when you don't do what they want or expected of you#like in the interview he did with nme when he said when people start to think they know you creatively - it feels like flies settling on yo#idk i find it good reminder for everyday life. you can't let people's perceptions & expectations of you dictate what you do#cause it's true. then you start relying on other people to determine your value and worth.#grian giving me life lessons and not even knowing it. thanks babe#fontaines d.c.#grian chatten#interview#kexp 2019#mine

Apparently my post about content warnings yesterday included enough key words to trigger the AI Tumblr mental health bot
Mental health apps are dicey to begin with but they get much dicier when you start connecting people experiencing mental illness via chat function.
A few years ago at my day job we received a project proposal for a youth mental health app, which the applicant thought would cost less than $10,000 to develop. Their app would connect isolated young people in rural and regional areas who were interested in mental health topics so that they could support each other via text chat, based on their location. It even suggested having them be able to flag their interest in specific topics, like being a member of the LGBTIQA+ community.
A few older colleagues thought this sounded like a good idea, but I, being annoying in the way that I’m annoying, started asking questions like:
How do we moderate the app?
How do we make sure users don’t just get the app in order to bully vulnerable young people?
If it’s based on location, couldn’t one user use two phones to triangulate where another user lived?
Are we sure that connecting isolated people based on nothing but having depression in common is a good idea?
If it’s for isolated young people, how do we prevent them from using it as a dating service?
How do we prevent scamming?
How do we prevent users from outing young LGBTIQA+ people who live in rural areas and are experiencing mental illness?
How do we prevent the app from becoming a dating service for people over 18 interested in accessing vulnerable teenagers?
How do you collect age data from a population who might not have driver’s licenses?
Hey, what sort of data security does less than $10,000 buy, anyway?
It was good to ask those questions because the people proposing the project had of course not thought to ask them at all, which proved that it wasn’t an achievable project with any meaningful outcomes. (When a budget is “$10,000: app development,” you already know people don’t know what they’re talking about.) However, the final nail in the coffin may have been when I started referring to the project as, “oh yeah, the suicide pact app?”
Anyway. I’m sure nothing could possibly go wrong with Kokobot because OF COURSE the missing piece of that proposed project was an AI chatbot,
#writing essays on tumblr dot com#I am not doing that role at work anymore for many reasons but#we also did have a documentary proposal that said it’s measures of success would be the end of transphobia worldwide#and someone who claimed that their colouring book would end rural homophobia#and cumulatively it did kind of give me a mental breakdown. Wow… maybe I DID need that app#mental health#suicide mention
