Mastering KPIs: From Basics to Advanced Metrics
KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, are everywhere in business, but they’re often misunderstood or misused. Having spent years working with teams across different industries, I’ve seen how the right KPIs can drive success, while the wrong ones can create confusion or, worse, false confidence. So, what exactly are KPIs, and how do you make sure you’re focusing on the ones that actually…

How do you measure success?
I’ll be honest. Before my Apple News podcast spotlighted recently-deceased Bertie Bowman as the longest serving Black congressional aide, I had never heard of him. Herbert (Bertie) Bowman was the child of sharecroppers in South Carolina. In 1944, Bowman ran away from home at 13 years old, got a job sweeping the Capitol building’s steps for $2 a week and worked his way up the political ladder.…

steddie relationship reveal coming not from the kids walking in on them or accidental pda but because Eddie's combat balance suddenly gets better and they realize it's cause Steve (the better strategist) is helping him with the combat prep. They know it's love cause Eddie threatened to shave Tews and blame it on Dustin the one time he picked up the wrong notebook/no one gets to see Eddie's DnD planning
#steddie#is this anything?#idk eddie just strikes me as the every fight could be a tpk sort of dm sometimes#i think steve would make a good combat dm cause more than strategy he understands that motivations arent always in line with the smart play#like a really good murph battle scene sometimes our motivation and measure of success shouldnt be everyone on the field is dead#sometimes it should be our whole party is alive and weve maybe also achieved a second objective like loot or saving an npc or something

its so fascinating to me wilsons brand of repression, bc we have several in text markers about houses, sort of standard, raised by military dad repression. wilsons in text repression is like so self aware and hateful of the fact he is gay (imo).
like house was like aw fuck im fucking bisexual for real and i have some implicit stuff going on im dealing with.
and wilson is like. very clearly and explicitly mentioning the importance of their relationship and in the same breath lamenting over the fact that hes not heterosexual with 2 kids and normal.
part of it was house always knew (at least since the infarction, if not his whole life) that he was not normal and could never be normal. whereas wilson tries to force himself to do it and cant make it work. and he knows it!! house is the only one he lets himself be who he really is and he hates that, bc he hates himself! which is why we see him lash out and mistrust house (bc if wilson is anything at all like house, he must really be worthless in the eyes of the world)
#and wilson needs a semblance of normalcy to navigate the world#that is his power#that is how he feels fulfilled#however illusory the whole thing is#bc if he has no measurement of success#if its just him and house facing the abyss of nothingness#he truly has nothing else to hold onto#wilsons depression haunts the narrative

"If you choose a job that you love, it won’t feel like work."
This is the scene where Seok Ryu realizes that a career path can be both fulfilling and professionally rewarding. Although Seung Hyo finds himself in long hours as an architect, he is genuinely passionate about his work. In fact in the previous episode, he said that even if he could swim again, he would still choose to be an architect.
Seung Hyo's dedication to his profession serves as a stark contrast to Seok Ryu's previous experiences. While in Greip, she was overworked and because of it probably hated her job.
As the drama progresses, I think Seokryu will begin to question her previous assumptions about work as a mere means to an end and starts to consider the possibility of finding a career that aligns to her passions and interests.
#so idealistic lol#i do have to disagree with the quote i put up there#i think any job no matter how passionate you feel towards it will feel like work (sometimes in the long run)#however i do believe liking the work you do#will help you keep a positive attitude in the midst of stressful situations.#*edit to add: Don't romanticize overworking#there may be times when a person needs to put in extra effort to meet deadlines or achieve specific goals#however overworking should not be seen as a badge of honor or a measure of success#love next door#kdrama#k:just thoughts

I sometimes wonder when a lot of people on this site started watching Carlos if they aren't alarmed by his results/ mentality/ second serve/ returning/ backhand/ movement right now. That man took the World No. 1 ranking off a very good version of Djokovic in 2023 (and that first half of 2023 was his objective peak in terms of tennis level to date by the way... when he was 19/just-turned-20...) and he's now in real danger of falling into the back half of the top ten if he doesn't perform the easy task of, um, defending the Channel Slam. And so far he's 2-for-2 this year for inexplicable mental crashouts in winnable matches at big tournaments.
It's just really concerning that probably one of the top two most talented men in tennis this century made one single masters semifinal in a year against a very weak field and lost it. And Indian Wells is his best tournament. He'd only ever lost there before to members of the Big Four when he was a teenager. If he can't hold his head together there because he's (as per his press conference) so nervous about playing... er... a semifinal against Jack Draper... what is going to happen everywhere else? We're four months away from the part of the season he doesn't like (most of it, lol) starting again.
I don't want to sound overly critical but like... the fact is that he's not a teen prodigy anymore. He has mental lapses every single match which aren't explained by the fact he's still "young" & the trend is towards them getting worse. He needs to be less complacent and, yeah, probably to start changing his team up. I get that JCF is a comfort blanket for him but it's what any other top player would have done already.
What's he waiting for? An embarrassing loss at a slam he's great at? Already happened. Bad results in masters tournaments for a whole year? Already happened. An avoidable loss in his favorite tournament? Well...
i really enjoy getting asks from the two diametrically opposed halves of my corner of tennisblr, haha. it feels like takes on carlos often come from this perspective of, these are the end times and the only solution is a complete overhaul, or everything's fine, no changes needed! seems hard to acknowledge that something needs to change for carlos to play his best and that change is possible without the nuclear option.
you said it yourself: he won the channel slam (and an olympic medal) last year. the take that the DEFAULT reaction after six months of middling results would be to cut the cord with the same coach who was on the bench for those titles is... extreme. like. i don't think any top player would do that, actually!
and like, to be clear, i've said before that it is very possible (even likely) that someday, maybe someday soon, carlos will need to split with juanki. i just don't understand the haste. literally every player has long stretches of poor play or disappointing results. it happened to federer, it happened to nadal, it happened to djokovic. carlos' "disappointing" stretch has included titles and deep runs. (a major qf is a deep run. a masters sf is a deep run.) he could have an outright disaster of a season this year and still be in ATG contention once he gets back on track. so like... why not wait and see how the next few months go? maybe the solution will be a split. maybe it won't.
#there's a zillion more things to say about this on both sides but this is all i've got the energy for rn#the timeline is what seems most out of touch to me#question of how to play best as a youthful disruptor vs an established gatekeeper is a different one#question of how to measure success as a youthful disruptor vs an established gatekeeper is a different different one#ask#carlos alcaraz#meta

oh yeah the spiced winter shortbread cookies with dried cranberries turned out great apart from being a little less intense in flavoring than i'd hoped (will have to add more spices and orange oil next time) so i'm going to give some to my coworkers since i made like 40 of the things
#🐉#considering that i was very experimental with my measurements because the recipe recommendations didnt yield the results i hoped for#id call it a success

#valentino's pal AND casey's fave teammate#he's kind of like a retired crime boss who's really lovely and sweet and you wouldn't know he's responsible for a dozen murders#so he manages to exist on the crossroads of going 'look at him go :)) whenever valentino does a wee bit of attempted murder#and being this chill older teammate to casey who manages to be ridiculously non-resentful of casey's success on the bike he'd developed#//#brr brr#//ht#incidentally the pool of people casey could be slandering with 'and i've never had that too much in other teammates that followed him'#+ 'they can't really compare to him' are melandri hayden dani and dovi#the easy one is melandri who is quite likely casey's least favourite premier class teammate#hayden is in an odd zone where casey has generally been very complimentary of him as a teammate but this is also... a bit odd?#because he was casey's teammate for two years so this is kinda weird to say if you think he was great?#there was a controversy mid 2010 where allegedly a comment of hayden's that it was a 'shame' for casey to leave ducati#was mistranslated to it being 'shameful' that he left. that's all i've got... i don't think it's that but you never know#i have to be real i'm not entirely sure casey noticed dovi was his teammate in 2011. certainly doesn't mention it in his autobiography#so. dani side swipe do we think? i reckon it's a dani side swipe#but also casey is wildly inconsistent with this like in 09 he said he's glad he has an american in the box now bc europeans can't cooperate#so i suppose on aggregate he's insulted all his teammates at least a little bit#he did also say he was never really worried any of them would have the measure of him over the course of a season so.

I think one of the great problems that faces people who are in the industry – within which they have to express themselves – is learning to ignore entirely anyone else’s opinion, especially complimentary opinions because the luxury with being assaulted is that you know instinctively that you’re not to take that onboard because that would affect – in a negative way – what you’re doing. But the same thing could be said for compliments, but they come in sheep's clothing. They invite you to give your sense of self-esteem to someone else because as soon as you start relying upon compliments, then you are giving away your own... I can’t think of the word, but you should be the crux of your own opinion. –Grian Chatten from Fontaines D.C. on Live with KEXP [x]
#every time i hear him speak in an interview i gain a new level of appreciation for him and the band#they are truly refreshing in their outlook and approach to things#his analogies and metaphors are so visceral. comparing compliments and criticism to an 'assault' of sorts is very interesting#that seems to be the age-old question about art though isn't it?#is it good because people like it and connect with it and that's how you measure its success?#or is it successful to you because you're proud of what you've created regardless of how it's received?#people will be quick to praise when they like something that you create but they'll be even quicker to criticize when they don't like it.#and then get angry when you don't do what they want or expected of you#like in the interview he did with nme when he said when people start to think they know you creatively - it feels like flies settling on yo#idk i find it good reminder for everyday life. you can't let people's perceptions & expectations of you dictate what you do#cause it's true. then you start relying on other people to determine your value and worth.#grian giving me life lessons and not even knowing it. thanks babe#fontaines d.c.#grian chatten#interview#kexp 2019#mine

fandoms: dragon age. and dragon age. oh, and also dragon age 😂
highest kudos: to feel the sun from both sides at 166 - a missing "what are we even doing right now" scene from the Rook x Lucanis romance <3
highest hit oneshot: I pick my poison (and it's you) at 1515 - yeah, no surprises here, it's the porn 😂 Arlow and Lucanis fuck on the rooftops in Treviso and I pretend there's a plot by drawing a line between the purple lanterns and Spite's wings.
new things I tried: writing (and finishing) a smut piece! that's been on my want-to-do list for a while, so that feels good to accomplish. I also wrote and posted my first polyship works this year!
fic I spent the most time on: the very condition of existence, my fic for @thedragonagebigbang! Female Mahariel/Anora, a childhood friends to strangers to lovers AU where Mahariel & Anora meet as children in the forest outside Gwaren and are reunited years later during the Landsmeet.
fic I spent the least time on: this one is always hard for me to gauge, but probably either softness did not serve me or spit your blood and bare your teeth, two of the pieces I wrote about Nika Brosca's history with the Carta for Febuwhump (mind the tags)
favorite thing I wrote: of my completed works, knee deep without a plea - Lucanis' POV of the weeks Rook spends in the Fade prison! I am really proud of the details I worked into this one for Lucanis and Spite, and the emotions across all of the characters. Honorable mention to before you can kill the monster (you have to say its name) - my WIP rewrite of the end of Davrin's personal arc, incorporating more of the nuance from Isseya's character in Last Flight, and filling in the gaps between the end of the novel and where Veilguard picks up. I'm really proud of the first chapters, and of where my outline is going, but I don't think I can put it at the top of my favorites until it's fully realized
favorite thing(s) I read:
there is no god but they'll kill you for him by tenderest (@/tendertieflings) - f!Lavellan & Dorian, Solavellan, heart-wrenching and angsty "Dorian & Lavellan deal with everything that happened with Solavellan and the world post-Trespasser.
floriography by ritualist - Harding/Josephine, tooth-rotting fluff and humor that contrasts Harding's earnest nature with Josephine's poise, bringing them together in a very sweet way.
contact poison by hellsreluctantheir (@/nonagesimus) - Teia/Viago, yes it's smut but it is also an amazing exploration of their dynamic, and really digs into some of the issues laid out for Viago in Tevinter Nights.
Razorwing by unoshot - f!Rook/Lucanis, a character study of their relationship throughout Veilguard that really pops off with the emotion and the imagery.
hound dogs howlin' round the gate by mortonsspoon (@shivunin) - f!Tabris & f!Tabris, I'm admittedly biased af bc this was an OC gift for me BUT objectively it is such a heartfelt piece about Tabris cousins that will get you all up in your city elf feels 😭💜
writing goals for 2025: finish & publish the rest of before you can kill the monster (you have to say its name)! And if I'm really ambitious, finish my Mahariel cure-for-the-Calling fic, which was the first DA fic I ever conceptualized, but has languished as I work and rework her canon. But it's outlined and I would love to write and finish it!
new works: 65 (!!!)
template under the cut!

Our neighboring neighborhood does this yearly charm bracelet event in all the shops and we just finished up. We took Fafner to Raygun and later I bought her a pack of squeaky cigarettes (didn’t quite capture it well in photos). It was time to teach my baby sister how cool smoking is! (I actually hate cigarettes but the squeaky pack keeps making me laugh). I bought a tiny money plant and picked up my library holds.

I think its neat how, looking at Dr. Order's creations overall, you can kind of slot most of them into categories of which god's power she was making a mockery of/trying to mimic/trying to counter in her quest to usurp godhood that week? With the seeming exception of machiavelli. who is kind of just their own weird thing.
