Dunno if you’re in the mood for football talk but the fact that fuckin Chelsea has recovered better than United despite having an ownership that decimated their team is astounding. The fact that Frenkie staying at a bankrupted Barcelona that tries to kick him out every few years is a better career move than de ligt and mazraoui (someone save them) going to United😭. Im 95% convinced that Sir Alex Ferguson made some kind of deal with satan himself to get him those successful years. it's okay, always in the mood for footie 🫶🏻 can I tell you I'm not really surprised? While I felt both chelsea and united had a similar strategy and energy at some point (sweeping off their own recent history player by player with a bunch of expensive youngsters welcomed as cracks when in reality...90% are not worth the 100whatever millions spent) I feel like chelsea got smart at some point. Yes they had a long ass squad list for a while, kinda fixed it and vibed on some sort of chaotic energy that when it works, it works, when it doesn't work...it goes terribly. but somehow it's finally working this year, they are certainly not the best team on the planet but they are okay to watch. however with united they did try to settle some sort of planning, buying a bit more experienced players on paper, but I still think it was terrible management from them overall. hojlund overall costed 72 million I still laugh when I think about it, I'm not trying to disrespect but why epl clubs waste so much money just cause they can, in what world he should have costed so much after one single decent season in serie a. I feel like it's more mental than anything at this point, they know they could do better but it's not working, ten hag doesn't really help (he should've left honestly, for his sake), the defense is ugly and both de ligt and maz, as good as they are, they are not the players to fix everything on their own. I mean they play with maguire, dalot, lindelof, evans 😅 they spend so much on wingers and forwards and then this is their defense, I don't understand really. it's so much unbalanced this team??? I agree, better frenkie at barça at this point, even if it's not ideal for him specifically

Maz Evans: Who Let the Gods Out

This is two books spliced together pell-mell.

One of them is a thoughtful, genre-savvy exploration of a child’s experience of loss and desperation and watching a parent succumb to illness.

The other is a bunch of bullshit strung together.

The thing is, this text tries to trick you into thinking it’s all the first by wittily subverting most of the scenes from the second. (I loved Zeus turning around and going ‘we shouldn’t worry the kids, let’s get serious’ the second Elliot was out of sight.)

....and the comes the ninja elderly Queen.

Just say no.

This is a major disappointment, especially because I could see how great it could have been. It had such a potential (I teared up during the ‘Mom’s lucid - whoops, she’s not’ scene). There should have been a ‘the Queen’s actually been a shape-shifted Hermes all along’ revelation.

(If it comes in the following books it’s too late, because this bullshit made me very definitively not want to read the following books. Also, the rest of the action precluded it within the narrative.

I mean, feel free to tell me; spoilers welcome. I don’t think I will ever invest my time in any more of this series.)
