so you want to get back into reading books but have no idea where to start and disdain booktok (if you get me started on this however i will become an unskippable cutscene so that's for another day). understandable. there is so much out there and it is all so overwhelming and you don't even know what you like now that you've been a decade out of the game. again, understandable. it does not have to be scary. i will help you. below i have created some categories that can get you started.
i want to read Literature
literary fiction, with crossover from historical fiction and magical realism

THE FAMILY CHAO by lan samantha chang
OUTER DARK by cormac mccarthy

THE JASMINE THRONE by tasha suri
THE CITY OF BRASS by s.a. chakraborty
A RIVER ENCHANTED by rebecca ross

THE BONE SHARD DAUGHTER by andrea stewart
i want to read sci-fi/fantasy that forces me to lock the fuck in
i would not recommend picking these up as your first foray back into books after many years of not reading recreationally, but i'm not your mom.
THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by simon jimenez
JADE CITY by fonda lee
THE FIFTH SEASON by n.k. jemisin
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS by evan winter
A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by arkady martine
GIDEON THE NINTH by tamsyn muir

A STUDY IN DROWNING by ava reid
EMPIRE OF SAND by tasha suri
LEGENDBORN by tracy deonn
i check out and read a lot of these books for free via my local library by using the libby app (you can even add your friends' library cards to gain access to libraries in places you don't live). when i'm feeling like reading via audiobook, i use libro fm!
look, no one HAS TO read diversely. no one is going to be reverse fahrenheit 451'd and locked in a room with no fanfic and only books and not let out until they work their way through the entire literary canon. but reading, and reading widely, and reading diversely, is what teaches people to form their own opinions and question the things they are told. it's why they hang up stuff like "READ READ READ!!" in grade school classrooms.
we live under systems that increasingly benefit from going unquestioned. no, of course reading ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by robin hobb is not going to dismantle these systems tomorrow, nor probably even in our lifetimes. but doing it will help set up a world capable of doing it in the future. and until further notice, we are all part of this wretched world. might as well read a good story while we're here.
anyway, i'm reading THE WEST PASSAGE by jared pechaček and the new cmq book this week.

A comprehensive guide to EPIC: the musical animatics!
I'm seeing a lot of people reacting and needing a list of animatics and it's always too much information to cram in to a comment section so I decided to try and make a list here!
This can be good even for people that are just getting into Epic and don't know where to start.
Some choices are going to be personal, if I'm forgetting something let me know! I'm going to list more than one option usually so this is going to be a long one. I will have to break it down into multiple posts because there is a max of 10 links per post :(
Ok let's start.
The Troy saga
- The horse and the infant
The go-to, and safest bet is obviously Gigi (she/her). But I see so many people react to her old version. This is the new version with the new recordings and some editing changes that make all the difference, in my humble opinion.
WARNING tho. This animatic is two songs in one. The horse and the infant and Just a man are one after the other. Still the divide between the two songs it's pretty clear.
youtube
Other than Gigi's, I think Jenjo III (she/her)version deserves a watch so I'm going to list it!
youtube
- Just a man
Ok as I said before Gigi is the go-to. Go back and use the link I put in The Horse and the Infant.
Another version that deserves a watch in my opinion is the one by WolfyTheWitch (any pronouns)
youtube
Another Honorable mention is Mircsy's (she/her) animation.
youtube
- Full speed ahead
WolfyTheWitch is the safest bet here.
youtube
An honorable mention to Mejillustrates (she/sher)!
youtube
- Open Arms
The fandom choice is the animatic by Mircsy!
Ps: yes, Polites is drawn with glasses because the design is based on the person that voices him.
youtube
Honorable mention! Yon Hara (she/her)
youtube
- Warrior of the mind
The go-to, as it connects well and gives some background info is still Mircsy
youtube
Some honorable mentions are:
WolfyTheWitch
youtube
And Space Bar. For this one keep in mind that it's set after Just a man, so it has some non-canon elements. Still cool tho. (can't put the link but I'll still leave the name of the animator so you can find it).

Sher, look at me, listen, listen, hear me out🐥 for woman, can we please, please, please get lando x reader x charles endgame🙏🙏 i just think the reader and us readers deserve(read: are begging for) it please 🙏 there's being enough being forced to choose, so don't make us to choose in this series🙏🙏 do it and MY LIFE IS YOURS🫡💪🗣️📢🔥
Babes, I fear you haven't been around for a while, Charles is like not baby boy to me anymore BUT I probably should resurrect woman after the crash between lando and max lmao imagine girlie, who's starting to fall for lando, suddenly having a feud with her brother max because he suddenly doesnt want his sister to be with lando after he tried to set them up in the first place 💀

Veronica Mars: A blog as I watch the film post seasons 1-3 *Spoilers*
No way veronica is with Piz is the first thing I have to say. It is majorly alluding to never escaped a small town, but the intro was incredibly endearing. Veronica and her dad’s relationship has always been my favorite in the show. The reunion is very adorable and raw, awkward, and clunky just like real life. Being in my early I current live in rabid fear of my ten-year high school reunion, but this movie captures the habits you fall into when you reunite with old friends. The movie knows what its viewers are expecting, and even throw in a few extra stars amongst the fully returned cast, including Mac, Dick, and Wallace. I love that the film is reflecting on the youthful days of high school with love and longing, but not returning to them. Choosing a more mature color palette and camera angles is doing everything it hoped for it, and it looks great on Kristen Bell and how she’s perfectly stepping back into the role. Still, I was hoping that Logan would have grown up and stopped messing around, yet it makes perfect sense he was always still just holding himself together, after everything he’s been through. It is odd to me that Mac took a job at Kane software, but only being in the exposition I’m assuming it’ll be a key element to proving Logan’s innocence. Veronica just slipped on her leather jacket and has declared this her “farewell tour.” It is classic Veronica to end up in her suspects apartment under false pretenses, and to eventually get arrested… and bailed out by an old ‘friend’ who wants to blackmail her. Logan and Veronica’s chemistry is palpable even after all these years, and Logan’s sarcasm [and Veronica’s] has grown charming with age. Wow… I can’t believe Madison is here… my least favorite character. I love the interesting awkward interaction with Gia, and adorable one with Weevil. I adore Weevil’s growth and excitement to show off his new life to Veronica. I am surprised that Veronica’s sex tape continues to be used against her and brought up time and time again, as that literally is revenge porn, yet not surprising Madison is using it against her. This ending in a fight I saw, but not Veronica punching Madison in the face. It is satisfying seeing the growth in the gathering of evidence, especially because rather than gossip it’s translated to reflecting on memories. The film truly sat down and thought “where would these characters be in ten years.” I am insanely shocked Weevil got shot by Celeste Kane scared, in her broken down car. I love the choice to make this film as the consistent storylines that stack is crucial to the Veronica Mars feel, especially the original first season, as the overlapping storylines make the mystery solving satisfying. The fun cameos keep returning! I am endeared that Max Greenfield returned for this film! He is adoring, and the call backs to the TV show are short and sweet. Unfortunately, I do think the show had to choose to write off the original Sheriff Lamb for allegedly ‘ego’ reasons, I wish they had him around for this movie, because the call backs don’t work as well with a new sheriff who hates the Mars for no reason. I continue to be shocked by the cameos in this movie, or not so cameo by James Franco and Sue Heck, or Eden Rebecca Sher. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many original cast members return to a movie before since the High School Musical movie series, including Vinny. Veronica ditching Piz’s family, to me, is exactly why they shouldn’t have been together for this long, but I suppose as Veronica missed her job opportunity the point is that she’s over dedicated to this case. I don’t know if she’s truly overcommitted to this case, or if she just wants justice. I’m unshocked that the plot is surfacing to be a corrupt cop plotline, but shocked that Mr. Mars and the uncorrupt cop were in a continuous hit and run! This movie keeps me guessing. Part of me feels like it’s the big bubble of Neptune that was waiting to burst or could be the CW’s effect on drama shows. Logan never stops being adorably caring exactly when he needs to be, but I am tired of them reuniting with a passionate kiss… although classic and would have preferred Artic Monkeys instead of the Hozier-esque music they chose, and since when is the movie more PG than the show?! The relationships are always so obviously painted in front of us, Cobb and Gia I saw coming from a mile away. I also can’t believe that [Congressmen Boyfriend] is now listening to Veronica and Gia’s conversation… this could go in all directions. I am ultimately disappointed the ‘friend died at a bad party situation’ of the high school reunion but appreciate the blackmail storyline… cannot believe Gia got shot!! [Currently terrified while Cobb...? searches for Veronica] Ending on the news stories and Veronica asleep at her dad’s bedside, and of course on how days separated between Veronica and Logan don’t mater. “Come back to me” Veronica says. “Always” Logan replies. Absolutely adorable. Although I don’t necessarily agree that Veronica Mars returning to Neptune to solve crimes is her getting back to the ring that she always needed to be in, but I understand this all was a big promotion for the return of the television show, the fourth season that is. I am dying to read the Veronica Mars novels; I enjoyed the pacing and quick wit/self-awareness the show plays into. I originally started the show because I saw some clips on Tik Tok, and noticed how many rising stars were in the original cut of the show. Now to begrudgingly watch the fourth season, although I haven’t heard amazing things. Thank you, Veronica Mars, for all you’ve granted me and I look forward to the rewatch.

ANTYESHTI CHAPTER 5: Research and script feedback
As mentioned, I and Max had come up with the idea, however, the inclusion of Indian mythology was something that I would take a lead on for obvious reasons. I went onto researching on stories and oral culture in India. Fortunately, my topic for my dissertation was also Indian mythology, hence, I used a lot of inspiration from my research in my dissertation and the script. Oliwia has done a phenomenal job in her research as well, therefore, the conversation about the script and Indian mythology stories went on much smoother. First off, after coming up with the stories, my job was to get mythological aspects in it. Now, when it came to incorporating mythology, Krishna was an obvious choice. My family has worshipped Krishna for as long as I can remember, and my grandmother especially has always been devoted to him. Their versatility made him the perfect figure to build our story around. The stories we choseboth the ones I grew up with and the ones we researched—aren’t just there for show. They act as metaphors, symbols, and even subtle critiques. Indian mythology is incredibly rich with themes of resilience, identity, and the constant battle between good and evil, which ties in beautifully with the core ideas in our film. Also, the choice of Krishna was perfect since his stories have a strong relationship with his mother Yashoda and our protagonist also has an important relationship with his mother. Further, we took inspiration from mythological stories and artwork, such as the Draupadi painting where she is sexually attacked by goons and Krishna's blessing saves her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This symbolic trait of violence in our film works as an amazing symbolism. Now coming back to the narrative of the film. I and Oliwia went in further research of character development. I had to be part of this process since all our characters are Indian and get the traits of each character that it is authentic to an Indian background. This was a super fun process. Our narrative that is set in the UK changed quite a bit, at first, we were going to kill off our protagonist, however, after meeting with our tutor Paul, we agreed that if we go that route the audience would have no one to empathize with. I was reluctant at first but the more I thought about it, I agreed to that feedback. After several changes, we finally arrived at the fact that in the present we will just have the tailor shop which works as a shelter during the riots for all South Asian communities. I loved this addition because from the very start, I did not want this just to be an Indian story, we show it through an Indian perspective, but I always wanted this to resonate with the South Asian communities who were under attack this summer. For further research I and Oliwia met a Hindu professor in India to discuss potential stories we could use in mythology and just get script feedback. We got a lot of ideas from that meeting. I think the script is at an amazing place and with a few more drafts the script will be amazing.
Tumblr media
For inspiration: A huge amount of research into Indian cinema, photography, and art has been integral in forming the groundwork of reference for Antyeshti’s visual style, supported by early 20th-century surrealist cinema and mid-century art films. Some of the inspirations on the development of our experimental imagery include paintings by Amrita Sher-Gil, Raghu Rai’s portrait photography and Meshes of the Afternoon (Deren, 1943). As for aesthetic references, our photographic look is informed by ‘Where Is My Friend’s House?’ (Kiarostami, 1987), ‘Duvidha’ (Kaul, 1973), ‘Eyimofe’ (Esiri Twins, 2021), ‘Phantom Thread’ (Anderson, 2017) and the work of Satyajit Ray.
