Hell's Belles
Être belles et rebelles ! :)

An Mini-Oral History of Maryjane (1968)
Kliph Nesteroff: You penned two scripts with Dick Gautier?
Peter Marshall: I did. Dick and I did Bye Bye Birdie together in Vegas. We became very close friends. We were together every day. I was struggling before Hollywood Squares, trying to make a buck. We started writing...
Dick Gautier: We were in Acapulco. We said, "Let's not just sit around. Let's write something."
Peter Marshall: We wrote a couple of TV things and then a friend of ours said, "Hey, I'm doing a movie on marijuana. Would you write the script?" So we gave him an outline. He said, "That's perfect. We're shooting in ten days." Didn't even have a script!
Dick Gautier: They said, "Here's what we want. We want a movie about marijuana." We said, "Okay." We started researching marijuana. We weren't smokers, but we started researching and discovered that the worst thing about it was that it was illegal.
Peter Marshall: We locked ourselves in an office and wrote this thing called Maryjane.
Dick Gautier: We wrote a beginning before the titles, where you see it being harvested and grown and cut into packages and sent to America. Then when the movie starts - we follow the five different packages. One goes to a housewife in Encino, another goes to a bank president, another here and another there. They didn't like it. They said, ‘No this is too literate and too boring.’ They had Fabian under contract and made him a high school teacher who starts selling it to kids.
Carl Gottlieb: I played a high school teacher in Maryjane. It was shot on the old Allied Artists lot. I'm in a scene with the high school faculty and the sheriff. We're discussing the marijuana problem at the school. Someone says, ‘You can't tell when these kids are high or not!’ I say, ‘You can tell. They act crazy and their eyes are funny.’ I was high myself. I was loaded when I shot that scene.
Peter Marshall: Fabian was in it and he said to the director, Maury Dexter, "Hey, can I change this?" He said, ‘Sure!’ We said, ‘No, hold it! You can't change that! That's the storyline!’ ‘Ah, don't worry about it.’ I never went back to the shoot. They destroyed you. The script had been real good, but they turned it into a terrible picture.
Dick Gautier: They almost dictated the thing to us. It was awful. We wrote it in eleven days.
Peter Marshall: It was a big hit!
Dick Gautier: A piece of shit.
Peter Marshall: It did very, very well and it's a terrible movie.
Carl Gottlieb: It was American International Pictures. Jim Nicholson and Sam Arkoff and a director named Maury Dexter who was a complete B-movie guy. He could shoot a movie in twelve days and he did.
Dick Gautier: The only scene in Maryjane that I like - I happen to be in. I’m the hippie in the jail cell with Fabian. I come in with a beard and all kinds of shit. I don't know if you remember it.
Kliph Nesteroff: No, I don't remember that. I'll have to watch it again.
Dick Gautier: No. Don't.

5e Morgana, the Fallen build (League of Legends)
(Artwork by Jessica “OwleyCat” Oyhenart and Victor “3rdColossus” Maury. Made for Riot Games.)
Hi Doran’s and Dragons! If you are reading this, this was that build I was talking about on Twitter about a month ago!
So I have a few builds down the pipeline but they’re all for games other than League, and I wanted to get at least one League build out before taking a shift in focus. I didn’t know who to build so I hit the random page button on the League of Legends wiki to see who I’d get.
I got Morgana. Twice. In a row. Well honestly she’s probably one of the most well-known supports in the game. Maybe someday I’ll do Kayle too!
GOALS
We are shaped by our foes - The thing that makes Morgana a viable jungler (other than Riot’s insistence on buffing her to do so) is her passive lifesteal on spells.
Whether by chains or by wings, we are all bound - It wouldn’t be Morgana without a good old 5 hour root.
You thought my magic evil - What makes Morgana such a good support is her ability to shield you from all incoming magics.
RACE
In Tulok's recent build for Zagreus he points out that he didn’t make Zagreus an Aasimar even though it would make sense because they don’t do anything than an Aasimar does. Similarly while I would love to make Morgana a Fallen Aasimar there’s two reasons why I’m not doing so:
None of the abilities make sense. She doesn’t heal, she doesn’t create light, she doesn’t really resist damage (she just makes her allies immune to it)... The only thing that makes sense is the fear from Fallen Aasimar’s Necrotic Shroud recreating Morgana’s ultimate, which leads to my second point.
This isn’t a Charisma build, and as a result a lot of the Aasimar abilities will be wasted.
With that being said hey guess what guys it’s not a Variant Human, it’s a Custom Lineage instead! You are Medium sized obviously and we’ll be taking a +2 to Wisdom, as you chose to remain on the ground to be close to those you were supposed to protect. We’ll be taking Darkvision as it makes the most sense for a fallen angel of darkness, and we’ll also be taking Celestial as our language obviously.
For your feat we’re going to get a little min-maxy as we grab Flash thanks to the Fey Touched feat. Increase your Wisdom by 1 (which means yes your race is giving you +3 to Wisdom!) and add Misty Step to your spell list, as well as Sleep to resolve fights peacefully. You can cast both of these spells once without using a spell slot, and can also cast them normally with spell slots.
ABILITY SCORES
15; WISDOM - With a +3 from your race and starting feat this puts you at a whopping 18 Wisdom to start off! What class will we be I wonder?
14; DEXTERITY - Repeat after me: “something something Medium Armor.”
13; CONSTITUTION - I would consider a high CON being more from you lifestealing with your spells, but more health is always good.
12; INTELLIGENCE - You remained grounded because you realized the fault in our stars.
10; CHARISMA - You’re kinda spooky, and Intimidation is a Charisma skill if you choose to use it.
8; STRENGTH - You’re a support caster which means you probably aren’t going to be doing top damage.
BACKGROUND
Seeing your father killed in a holy fire caused by your sister is quite the haunting vision, so the Haunted One background works well for Morgana. You get proficiency in Investigation as well as Religion because... well your mom was a god. You also get proficiency in one language (pick whatever you think would fit as Demacian) and one exotic language (since you’ve already connected to your heavenly roots take Infernal for a touch of the world below.)
Your background feature Heart of Darkness does make you rather spooky, but ensures that people know you mean no harm. They can see the chains around your wings and are willing to help you with your suffering however they can.
(Artwork by Alex “alexplank” Flores. Made for Riot Games.)
THE BUILD
LEVEL 1 - CLERIC 1
While you may reject your duty as an aspect you still get your power from the gods, so a Cleric you shall be! You get two proficiencies from the Cleric list: take Medicine to help mortals, and Insight to see the truth behind mortal intentions.
You also get to choose your subclass at level 1 and believe it or not we’ll actually be going for the Arcana domain to solidify your role as an enchanter! You get proficiency in the Arcana skill (yeah duh, which is also why we didn’t take it from our background) and two cantrips from the Wizard list: Firebolt will serve as standard auto attacks, and Mind Sliver will make it easier for your allies to hit enemies with their spells.
With two combat cantrips from our subclass that means you can afford to be more lenient with the spells you take from your regular Spellcasting feature. You get three cantrips from the Cleric list: Guidance is an obvious pick, Thaumaturgy will let you frighten those who think you evil, and Toll the Dead to save those who see beyond that.
You can also prepare four spells from the Cleric list. You get Detect Magic innately (yeah duh) and Magic Missile innately, because it’s pretty easy to spam your W for Spellthief’s stacks and Arcane Comet spam. Shield of Faith will serve as the first Black Shield, though it works better against physical damage than magic damage. Bane will let you weaken your enemies with Tormented Shadow. And hey you’re a Cleric and a support, so you may as well grab Cure Wounds and Healing Word because there isn’t that much else I want from first level.
LEVEL 2 - CLERIC 2
Second level Clerics get their Channel Divinity! Every Cleric gets one two Channel Divinity option(s), and you also get one additional option based on your subclass. Turn Undead will force all undead near you to run away, which is almost like you using your ult except for the fact that it only affects Sion.
Harness Divine Power from Tasha’s meanwhile lets you recover a spell slot equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded up.) You only have a limited number of uses of this ability based on your total Cleric level, so you’re no Wizard but this is still a good way to get some of your abilities back on a short rest if your DM lets you.
And finally if you want to keep one particular enemy far away the Arcana Cleric has Arcane Abjuration. You present your holy symbol and choose one celestial, elemental, fey, or fiend within 30 feet of you. It must make a Wisdom saving throw or be turned for 1 minute (or until it takes any damage.) This works pretty much the exact same way as Turn Undead, but it of course works on enemies other than Undead who you may fight against more often!
You can also prepare more spells, but there isn’t much I want from first level (I mean Bless is always good?) but what I do want is...
LEVEL 3 - CLERIC 3
Third level Clerics get second level spell slots! And hey look at that: there’s Hold Person for our Dark Binding! Other than that Lesser Restoration will let you cleanse a bunch of debuffs, which could be seen as either your Black Shield or a Mikael’s.
You also get Magic Weapon innately as an Arcana Cleric, as well as Arcanist's Magic Aura. The latter spell is rather situational, but Magic Weapon can be good to boost an ally’s damage if you’re facing off against a tank with high armor or resistance to non-magical attacks.
LEVEL 4 - CLERIC 4
4th level Clerics get our first Ability Score Improvement which is going to be used to cap off our Wisdom modifier! Maxed out casting quick and simple!
This means two new spells prepared, as well as a new cantrip! For your cantrip now would be a good time to grab some AP and use Toll the Dead. For your leveled spells Aid is universally good, and Warding Bond will let you make a Knight’s Vow to protect an important ally.
(Artwork by Kelly Aleshire. Made for Riot Games.)
LEVEL 5 - CLERIC 5
5th level Clerics now Destroy Undead of CR 1/2 or lower with their Channel Divinity Turn Undead. This feature also interacts with Arcane Abjuration, as creatures of that CR which fail the saving throw against your Channel Divinity are banished for 1 minute. Put the yordles into time out!
Additionally you can now prepare third level spells! Arcana Clerics get Dispel Magic (which is like Counterspell but not instantaneous) and Magic Circle (which takes some time to set up all the wards but it’ll protect your ADC!) You can also prepare Clarvoyance for some more wards, or Incite Greed which will serve as the first version of your ultimate. It makes all enemies near you unable to fight, but if your allies attack them their stun will be broken. So it’s more like Lillia’s ultimate really.
LEVEL 6 - CLERIC 6
6th level Arcana Clerics can get efficient use of their spell slots thanks to Spell Breaker. When you restore hit points to an ally with a spell you can also end one spell of your choice on that creature. The level of the spell you end must be equal to or lower than the level of the spell slot you use to cast the healing spell. But this will let you heal your allies and Black Shield them at the same time.
You can also prepare another spell like Aura of Vitality (ty Tasha’s), which isn’t just a ton of healing from Moonstone but also a ton of negated spells. And to top it off you can put some more folks in time out as you now have two uses of your Channel Divinity per Short Rest!
LEVEL 7 - CLERIC 7
7th level Clerics get 4th level spells. Arcana Clerics get Arcane Eye for a sweeper lens, and Leomund’s Secret Chest to store your gold so you can have it after you die.
You can also prepare Guardian of Faith for a Tormented Shadow that last, just... a really long time. Any enemy that comes within 10 feet of the Guardian must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 20 Radiant damage, and this thing lasts for 8 hours!
LEVEL 8 - CLERIC 8
8th level Clerics get many a feature. Let’s start with your Ability Score Improvement which will be going to Resilient Constitution to give yourself an even ability score and proficiency with Constitution (IE Concentration) saving throws. Secondly you get Potent Spellcasting, letting you add your Wisdom modifier (so +5) to the damage of any cantrip you cast for some more AP.
Thirdly your Destroy Undead feature (as well as Arcane Abjuration Banishment) works on enemies of CR 1 or lower. And finally you of course get another prepared spell, so take Death Ward to make sure your ADC packed a Guardian Angel.
(Artwork by Claire Wong and West Studios. Made for Riot Games.)
LEVEL 9 - CLERIC 9
9th level Clerics can prepare 5th level spells. As an Arcana Cleric you get access to Planar Binding (which doesn’t involve chains despite the name, but is still useful to have against planar enemies) and Teleportation Circle to set up your recalls back to base. You can also block even the strongest debuffs with Greater Restoration.
LEVEL 10 - CLERIC 10
10th level Clerics get to call mom for some Divine Intervention. Roll a d100, and if it’s below your Cleric level the gods will actually listen to your pleas for the mortals. You may be a fallen angel, but that doesn’t mean you can’t invest celestial powers when you need them. Or at least try to.
You can also prepare another spell and another cantrip. For your cantrip someone should probably have Mending, so take that if no one else has it. (If someone does have it then I don’t know really.) As for spells I just realized I forgot to give you Freedom of Movement so... more Black Shield?
LEVEL 11 - CLERIC 11
11th level Clerics can Destroy Undead (or banish creatures) of CR 2 or lower. But more importantly you can prepare 6th level spells like Heroes’ Feast, to enjoy some of life’s mortal pleasures.
LEVEL 12 - CLERIC 12
12th level Clerics get another Ability Score Improvement and what’s cool about this build is that I can actually reasonably take War Caster since your casting stat is maxed! Along with giving you advantage on Concentration checks you can also cast a spell as a reaction, and even cast when holding weapons in both your hands!
You can also prepare another spell like Heal. It’s Summoner Heal!
(Artwork by Alex “alexplank” Flores. Made for Riot Games.)
LEVEL 13 - CLERIC 13
13th level Clerics can prepare 7th level spells like Fire Storm. Tear the world asunder with Tormented Shadow like it’s TFT!
LEVEL 14 - CLERIC 14
14th level Clerics can Destroy Undead (or banish creatures) of CR 3 or lower. You can also prepare another spell like Dispel Evil and Good back at 5th level, because your higher level slots are limited.
LEVEL 15 - CLERIC 15
15th level Clerics can prepare 8th level spells like Holy Aura, which is kinda the ultimate support spell to buff all your nearby allies.
LEVEL 16 - CLERIC 16
16th level Clerics get another Ability Score Improvement and I mean... I dunno I just opted for Tough. You can make your own choices if you’re actually playing a 16th level character. Honestly the same can be said for what spell you should prepare because there comes a point that you reach a critical mass of potential spells you could have.
(Artwork by Zeen Chin. Made for Riot Games.)
LEVEL 17 - CLERIC 17
17th level Arcana Clerics get Arcane Mastery: you get to add a 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th level Wizard spell to your spell list. They count as Cleric spells and are always prepared for you. Here’s where we’ll be getting some of our really big hitters:
Globe of Invulnerability is the ultimate Black Shield, blocking all incoming spells of a lower level for both you and your allies.
Forcecage will serve as the ultimate binding to keep an enemy from moving away.
Power Word Stun will serve as an ultimate stun... Yeah it just stuns a low health enemy.
And Imprisonment is the ultimate ultimate stun, if you just really don’t want to let someone play the game.
Speaking of spells you can ask for Redemption with the 9th level Cleric spell Mass Heal, which gives you 700 HP to distribute among allies while curing diseases and removing and blinding or deafening effects. Finish off your support build with a bang! Oh and you can destroy / banish creatures of CR 4 now with your Channel Divinity.
LEVEL 18 - CLERIC 18
We do still have 3 levels to go however. Feel free to multiclass but most campaigns aren’t going to reach this point anyways, so I’d honestly opt for full Cleric levels instead even if the Cleric capstone doesn’t fit Morgana. Anyways 18th level Clerics can use their Channel Divinity 3 times per Short Rest. And you can prepare another spell I guess get what you want because you’ve got everything you could want by this point.
LEVEL 19 - CLERIC 19
19th level Clerics get another ASI. Again: take what you want in terms of feats and take what you want in terms of prepared spells. You deserve it if you managed to hit level 19 as a support.
LEVEL 20 - CLERIC 20
20th level Clerics can finally embrace their heritage to get some Divine Intervention Improvements. Set aside your differences with your sister to ensure that your call to the gods always works! Or don’t, because I doubt you’re going to hit level 20 anyways.
FINAL BUILD
PROS
Take pride in how swiftly we fall - So it turns out 20 levels in a class is pretty strong in its own right, and while the core of this account will always be multiclass builds it is nice to get those sweet sweet 9th level spells, along with that awesome level 20 feature.
Shielded from yourself - Spell Breaker is one of if not the strongest Cleric feature from a pure supportive standpoint. It doesn’t work against enemies who aren’t casting spells (so you can’t stop a dragon from being scary) but being able to deny some really powerful spells like Bane, Fear, or even Hold Person is incredibly valuable.
Share in my torment! - 14 CON isn’t earth-shatteringly great, but it certainly gets the job done. You should have around 140 HP which can go up to 180 thanks to the Tough feat, and Medium armor plus a shield also gives you good AC to keep alive during teamfights.
CONS
Those who soar lose sight of the life below - One of the big weaknesses of the Arcana domain is its Channel Divinity. It is extremely situational based on the campaign you’re in, and may end up being completely useless in the long run. Talk to your DM about presenting you more chances to use your Channel Divinity or potentially even changing it to be more useful for your campaign.
Embrace your mistakes - Maybe you opted for some ASIs instead of feats but the way I built Morgana her ability scores beyond Wisdom are mediocre at best. This means bad skill checks and worse saves, notably a measly +2 to DEX saves and -1 to STR saves.
Look what you made me do! - Multiclassing by level 18 would’ve made no sense, so that does mean that we got some abilities which really don’t fit Morgana. Honestly the entire idea of Morgana being a Cleric is weird, even if it fits her kit the best in my opinion.
But even if you reject your legacy your powers are still divine. Shape the whims of those around you and keep your friends safe from those who seek justice without trial. Just don’t get in a 1v1 with your sister anytime soon, especially if she’s already level 16.
