In the world according to “LAC (After Swan Lake),” a trashy reinterpretation by Jean-Christophe Maillot for Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, there are two types of women: the kind you marry and the kind you sleep with. April Ball’s primal Black Swan is a predator. Her mother, known as Her Majesty of the Night (Maude Sabourin), is even more overheated.

Gala Québec Cinéma : Choix et prédictions

Le Gala artisans Québec Cinéma animé par Pier-Luc Funk et Léane Labrèche-Dor sera diffusé en direct le mardi 29 mai à 19 h sur ARTV. Animé par Édith Cochrane et Guylaine Tremblay, le Gala Québec Cinéma sera présenté en direct du Studio 42 de la Maison de Radio-Canada le dimanche 3 juin à 20 h. 

Comme le veut la tradition, voici mes choix et prédictions dans les différentes catégories.

MEILLEUR FILM Les Affamés Boost Chien de garde La Petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Le Problème d’infiltration Les Rois mongols Tuktuq

Choix et prédiction : Je crois que je ne me trompe pas en disant que c’est l’année Robin Aubert. J’admire ce cinéaste depuis longtemps, mais il s’est surpassé cette année avec l’essentiel Tuktuq ainsi que l’incontournable Les Affamés, un film de genre d’auteur qui mérite tous les honneurs qu’il a reçu jusqu’à maintenant.

MEILLEURE RÉALISATION Robin Aubert, Les Affamés Darren Curtis, Boost Sophie Dupuis, Chien de garde Robert Morin, Le Problème d’infiltration Luc Picard, Les Rois mongols

Choix : Robin Aubert, pour avoir à la fois réalisé un film de zombie hyper efficace et y avoir insufflé beaucoup d’émotion, de profondeur et de poésie.

Prédiction : Ça ferait du bien de voir Sophie Dupuis l’emporter en cette année où la place des femmes au cinéma et dans la société en général est au coeur des discussions. En plus, sa réalisation de Chien de garde est époustouflante, alors ce serait parfaitement mérité.

MEILLEUR SCÉNARIO Darren Curtis, Boost Sophie Dupuis, Chien de garde Robert Morin, Le Problème d’infiltration Nicole Bélanger, Les Rois mongols Gabriel Sabourin, C’est le coeur qui meurt en dernier Choix et prédiction : Le Problème d’infiltration est un fabuleux exercice de style et une formidable vitrine pour le talent d’acteur de Christian Bégin (voir plus bas), mais à la base, il y a un scénario très fort, avec le portrait psychologique de personnage le plus riche de l’année.

MEILLEURE INTERPRÉTATION FÉMININE | PREMIER RÔLE Élise Guilbault, Pour vivre ici Maude Guérin, Chien de garde Denise Filiatrault, C'est le coeur qui meurt en dernier Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Le trip à trois Charlotte Aubin, Isla Blanca

Choix : Charlotte Aubin, 1000 fois Charlotte Aubin. Dans Isla Blanca, elle livre la meilleure performance de l’année, toute catégorie. 

Prédiction : Je pense toutefois que c’est Denise Filiatrault qui sera honorée pour son beau rôle dans C'est le coeur qui meurt en dernier.

MEILLEURE INTERPRÉTATION MASCULINE | PREMIER RÔLE Patrick Huard, Bon Cop Bad Cop 2 Jean-Simon Leduc, Chien de garde Joey Klein, We’re Still Together Jesse Camacho, We’re Still Together Christian Bégin, Le Problème d’infiltration Choix et prédiction : Christian Bégin, peut-être la plus grande évidence cette année. Comme mentionné plus haut, c’est un personnage très riche que Robert Morin a écrit, et Bégin en fait quelque chose d’encore plus extraordinaire et inoubliable.

MEILLEURE INTERPRÉTATION FÉMININE | RÔLE DE SOUTIEN Isabelle Blais, Tadoussac Brigitte Poupart, Les Affamés Micheline Lanctôt, Les Affamés Karine Vanasse, Et au pire on se mariera Sandra Dumaresq, Le Problème d’infiltration

Choix et prédiction : Isabelle Blais est déchirante dans Tadoussac, un film qui mérite d’ailleurs grandement d’être inclus dans le palmarès (c’est sa seule nomination). 

MEILLEURE INTERPRÉTATION MASCULINE | RÔLE DE SOUTIEN Anthony Therrien, Charlotte a du fun Robert Morin, Tuktuq Jahmil French, Boost Emmanuel Schwartz, Hochelaga, Terre des âmes Guy Thauvette, Le Problème d'infiltration Choix : Tout comme Nabil Rajo,  Jahmil French est excellent dans Boost, le secret le mieux gardé du cinéma québécois de la dernière année.

Prédiction : Anthony Therrien, qu’on a aussi vu dans Les Faux tatouages, est l’une des meilleures choses à propos de Charlotte a du fun et pourrait se démarquer ici.  

RÉVÉLATION DE L’ANNÉE Nabil Rajo, Boost Rose-Marie Perreault, Les Faux tatouages Théodore Pellerin, Chien de garde Marine Johnson, La Petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Romane Denis, Charlotte a du fun

Choix et prédiction : Probablement la catégorie la plus solide de l’année. Pratiquement chacun et chacune des nommés mériteraient l’Iris... mais je crois que Théodore Pellerin a une petite longueur d’avance. Il est phénoménal dans Chien de garde et en plus, il a dévoilé d’autres facettes de son talent dernièrement dans Isla Blanca et Ailleurs.   

MEILLEURE DISTRIBUTION DES RÔLES Charlotte a du fun Boost Les rois mongols

Choix : Beaucoup de nouveaux visages dans Boost. Beaucoup de diversité aussi. Deux beaux défis, admirablement bien relevés.

Prédiction : Je dirais Charlotte a du fun, pour avoir assemblé plusieurs jeunes actrices et acteurs québécois prometteurs.

MEILLEURE DIRECTION ARTISTIQUE Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Nous sommes les autres Les rois mongols Le problème d’infiltration

Choix : C’est un univers très particulier qu’on découvre dans La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes, dans un passé fantasmé, aux frontières du réel. Beau travail de direction artistique.

Prédiction : C’est peut-être ici que Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes sera inclus. Un film qui ne fait pas l’unanimité, mais qui a quand même des qualités artistiques. 

MEILLEURE DIRECTION DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE Iqaluit Les rois mongols La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes Pieds nus dans l’aube

Choix et prédiction : Je ne vois pas comment La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes pourrait être ignoré ici. Chaque plan en noir et blanc de ce film est superbe.

MEILLEUR MONTAGE X Quinientos Chien de garde La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Boost Tuktuq

Choix : Il y a beaucoup de séquences intenses dans Boost où le montage contribue grandement à maintenir la tension.

Prédiction : C’est aussi le cas dans Chien de garde, film que j’estime plus propice à rallier la majorité.

MEILLEUR SON La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Bon Cop Bad Cop 2 Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes All You Can Eat Bouddha Les Affamés

Choix et prédiction : Les Affamés joue habilement sur contraste silence/bruit pour causer des réactions. Cela mérite mention.

MEILLEURS EFFETS VISUELS Pieds nus dans l’aube Le problème d’infiltration Nous sommes les autres Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes Les Affamés

Choix et prédiction : En tant que film le plus “fantastique” de l’année, Les Affamés est le choix logique. 

MEILLEURE MUSIQUE ORIGINALE Boost Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes Chien de garde Le problème d’infiltration Les Affamés

Choix et prédiction : Est-ce que ça paraît que j’adore Les Affamés? Mais sérieusement, la musique de  Peter Henry Phillips mérite aussi d’être célébrée. Entre autres pour la façon dont elle se marie judicieusement à l’ensemble de la conception sonore.

MEILLEURS COSTUMES Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes Les rois mongols La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Pieds nus dans l’aube Nous sommes les autres

Choix et prédiction : J’ai envie de dire Hochelaga, pour les costumes d’époque... Mais ce n’est pas une des choses que je remarque le plus dans un film.

MEILLEURE COIFFURE X Quinientos La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes Les rois mongols Nous sommes les autres Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes Choix et prédiction : Encore là, j’y vais par instinct avec Hochelaga, mais je pourrais me tromper.

Choix et prédiction : Encore Les Affamés! Pour tout ce beau sang!

Prédiction : En plus de ses sélections et prix en festival, grâce à sa diffusion sur Netflix aux États-Unis et à travers le monde, Les Affamés est presque assurément le film québécois le plus vu mondialement de la dernière année. 

Je n’ai malheureusement pas tous vus les documentaires et courts métrages finalistes, alors je ne tenterai pas de choisir/prédir les gagnants.
