Minnesota Twins-Kansas City Royals Series Preview
7.28.23-Sonny Gray RHP (4-4) 3.15 ERA Vs. Brady Singer RHP (6-8) 5.55 ERA
7.29.23-Bailey Ober RHP (6-4) 2.76 ERA Vs. Jordan Lyles RHP (1-12) 6.19 ERA
7.30.23-Kenta Maeda RHP (2-5) 4.62 ERA Vs. Ryan Yarbrough LHP (3-5) 4.70 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins started the second half hot with a (9-2) record, but the Mariners took the last two games of the series. The Twins now head out on an all-Missouri road trip to Kansas City and St. Louis this week. Byron Buxton will be activated from the paternity list and Trevor Larnach was optioned back to St. Paul. Jorge Polanco should be activated and I’m not sure what the roster move will be. It probably will be Matt Wallner getting optioned to St. Paul. Joey Gallo left Wednesday’s game with an illness, but it doesn’t seem too severe. Nick Gordon is close to beginning baseball activities. Royce Lewis has been playing catch and taking swings over the past week. Eddie Julien is hitting .410 after the All-Star break. Ryan Jeffers has found his swing with a .409 average after the break. The pitching staff hasn’t been as good lately. The whole staff owns a 4.61 ERA in the second half. Caleb Thielbar will make one more rehab appearance for the Saints before being activated in St. Louis next week. Brock Stewart threw a fifteen-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday as he works his way back. Emilio Pagan has been getting better and has allowed two runs over his last eleven innings of work.
The Royals At A Glance- The Royals have been the opposite of the Twins with a (3-10) record in the second half. They have already traded Aroldis Chapman and possibly more moves are to come before the trade deadline. Dairon Blanco is hot with a .429 average in the second half. Freddy Fermin has a .409 average after the break. Matt Beaty is working his way back from a concussion with a rehab assignment at Omaha. Daniel Lynch couldn’t throw a bullpen session Monday and Brad Keller returned to the team after a terrible rehab assignment. It’s unknown what the next step is for both pitchers. Josh Staumont is out for the season with thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Josh Taylor has a herniated disc and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. The Royals pitching staff has a 5.22 ERA in the second half. Nick Wittgren has been good with a 1.69 ERA over 5 1/3 innings after the break. Scott Barlow has a .900 ERA in seven July innings.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (9-1) against the Royals in 2023. This is one of the few reasons why I don’t like the new schedule. The Twins play the Royals less and it’s one less series at Kauffman Stadium for myself. Sonny Gray is (9-2) with a 1.54 ERA in twelve starts against the Royals. Brady Singer is (-6) with a 6.15 ERA in ten games against the Twins. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler have two homers off Singer. Bailey Ober has a 4.00 ERA in six starts against the Royals. Jordan Lyles has a 5.00 ERA in five starts versus the Twins. Max Kepler has two homers off Jordan Lyles. Kenta Maeda is (3-0) with a 1.00 ERA in eighteen innings versus Kansas City. Ryan Yarbrough has a 5.82 ERA in seventeen innings against the Twins. Christian Vazquez has three career homers off Yarbrough. This will be a hot week for the Twins in Missouri. Every game this weekend should be in the 90′s.

Hello there I read a post of your and you mentioned the star wars comics Can you please suggest some good ones to read about the prequels or the original trilogy era? I would be most grateful
Hi! BOY, I CAN I. :D PREQUELS COMICS: - Obi-Wan & Anakin by Charles Soule. This is probably my favorite prequels comic, for both iddy reasons (the art is gorgeous, there are some joyfully extra Jedi shenanigans, Obi-Wan & Anakin’s relationship is darling, etc.), but also because it’s really, really good when you read the whole thing and look at what it’s saying about the plot, the Jedi and their view of their relationship with the Republic, their relationship with Anakin and his relationship with them, and why everyone views things the way they do, right down to Palpatine poisoning everything for everyone. - Age of Republic by Jody Houser. This is a series of oneshots (don’t let the numbers fool you) for various hero and villain characters and all of them are really good. My favorite is the Obi-Wan one (obviously) because it’s so good at exploring his relationship with Anakin, but the Padme and Anakin and Maul ones all have really excellent character moments as well. - Star Wars Adventures by various authors. I enjoy pretty much all of the Adventures comics, no matter what era they’re in! I don’t remember specifically which numbers the prequels ones are--there aren’t very many, but I’m recommending the whole run because there’s a lot of OT comics in there as well and the ST comics are really, really cute ones. They’re light-hearted but have some great worldbuilding bits and have some amazing Padme moments especially. (SWA #12-13 have the Anakin/Padme date episode that’s hilarious + the 2019 Annual has an amazing story about Breha telling baby Leia about her friend Queen Padme Amidala.) There’s also a story about Mace helping a young Twi’lek girl somewhere in that run that’s WONDERFUL. - Clone Wars Battle Tales by Michael Moreci. It’s a kids’ series (part of the Adventures line) but it has so many great moments for both the clones and the Jedi. Both hilarious and with some touching moments (oh my god, Plo & Wolffe’s interactions got me right in the feelings and Obi-Wan is my fave forever, as always) and it’s a nicely done 5 issue mini-series. - Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu by Matt Owens. Don’t let the art put you off (it is an acquired taste, if that) because the story itself is really worth digging into, a great look at Mace and the Jedi and their struggle with their role in being warriors in the Clone Wars, as well as their capacity for compassion and care when someone is deeply unfair to the people around them. It’s an excellent Mace story but also has Kit Fisto being amazing in it, so it’s also worth reading for that. - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith vol. 2 by Charles Soule. Set in the immediate aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, this is a phenomenal look at Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader and how they are absolutely the same person. The bigger arc of this story illustrates all these various Jedi that Anakin meets, showing him paths he could have taken instead of the one he did--he could have went on sabbatical, he could have left the Jedi for a family, he could have found other paths, he could have helped even while falling to the dark side--and he rejects every single one of them because he refuses to believe there were any other options than the one he has. Add in some incredible worldbuilding and this is the comic for understanding Darth Vader, for me. - Kanan: The Last Padawan by Greg Weisman. Another must-read, for the stunningly gorgeous art, for the amazing cuteness of baby Jedi, for the incredibleness of everything of Depa Billaba, and for the heartbreak of watching Caleb Dume become Kanan Jarrus after the Jedi Purge. The worldbuliding is amazing (the look at the Jedi is so satisfying!) and the deeper understanding of Kanan’s origins and heartbreak at watching how much he suffered through all of that, it’s just gorgeously done. ORIGINAL COMICS: - Darth Vader vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen. It’s best to read this concurrently with the Star Wars ongoing (from 2015 by Jason Aaron) because the first 6+ issues overlap with each other, but after that, read in whatever order you like. This series is amazing and I would probably say, if you’re going to read one Darth Vader comic, it should be this one (even though the Soule one is my favorite), because Gillen really nails that balance of keeping him something of a mystical figure while also exploring the character. There are so many absolutely iconic moments from this run that are Must Reads. - Darth Vader vol. 3 by Greg Pak. While I almost put this in the prequels second, because while it’s set between ANH and ESB there are a lot of flashbacks and aftermath of prequels era stuff. It’s less than 10 issues into its run yet, but every issue has been grabbing me by the throat and really giving us another entire comic full of gut-punches about what a shit lord Anakin Skywalker chose to be while also breaking our hearts for him. - Star Wars vol. 1 by Jason Aaron. While the main series has been rebooted and is now being written by Charles Soule, the Jason Aaron one is absolutely worth reading, it’s centered around the time just post-ANH, where Luke and Leia and Han are having adventures and it does the brilliant job of exploring the characters in meaningful ways while working around the framework of the original movies and adding onto them to make them even better, imo. Plus, there are some Obi-Wan issues in there that are absolute heartbreakers. - Star Wars vol. 2 by Charles Soule. We’re only on the second arc at this point, but the first arc with Luke recently wrapped up and it was really amazing, Soule is really good at drawing connections between the character arcs of both the PT and the OT, ones that may not always occur to me on the first read, but once I go back, it really feels it’s deliberate. Luke struggling with the dark side in the aftermath of ESB and the revelations there and how he deals with it? Incredible. - As mentioned above, the Star Wars Adventures comics have a lot of OT ones (anything with Leia tends to be my favorite) and they might be aimed at a younger audience, but they are often gorgeously drawn and have either really iconic moments or are just really feel-good reads. - Shattered Empire is a four-issue mini-series that’s basically the aftermath of ROTJ and setting up a lot of stuff that’ll happen in the years between the OT and the ST. The art is absolutely stunning, you will fall in love with Poe Dameron’s mother, and there’s some great nods to what the original trio was up to. It’s great for connective tissue, but also I just genuinely enjoyed it for itself. HONORABLE MENTIONS: - It’s been awhile since I read either of the Maul comics (the one by Cullen Bunn I remember really enjoying, and I haven’t read Son of Dathomir by Jeremy Barlow yet) but they’re worth picking up, if you’re enjoying SW comics. - The Adventures comics had a Tales from Vader’s Castle + Return to Vader’s Castle series released near Halloween for some cutely spooky stories that I really loved, if you like the Adventures comics. There’s a hilarious one with Dracula!Dooku references as a nod to Christopher Lee’s portrayal of the character that absolutely delighted me. - If you enjoy her introduction in Darth Vader vol. 1, the Doctor Aphra comics are excellent reads as well. I also loved the Princess Leia mini-series by Mark Waid

[RESENHA]
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga (1996)
Gênero(s): Power Thrash Metal
Duração: 43 minutos
⛧NOTA - ★★★★★★★ (excelente) ⛧

What are their album artworks like? Varied. They fit the overall feels of the albums very well
If they stopped making music, would you be sad? I’d be completely devastated
If you didn’t know what they look like, based off their music, what you guess they looked like? Hearing The Great Depression, I’d probably guess that they look exactly like they currently do (emo). Okay. era I’d probably assume that they still just looked like a pop punk band. And for Never Happy, I’d probably also guess pretty close.
Name of Artist: All Time Low
How popular are they? they’re regarded as one of the bigger, more important, older(ish) bands in the scene, and they’ve gotten some decent mainstream attention I think
Have you ever seen them perform live? 3 times
How did you find out about them? So one of my friends listened to them when we were in middle school but I didn’t start listening to them until I was in high school, and it was probably because I saw posts about them on here
What is their sexuality, if known? Straight to my knowledge (but they sure do like to kiss boys)
Is their music easy to dance to? yeah they’ve got some bops
Name of Artist: Set It Off
What instrument is the most prominent in their music? probably drums, guitars, or synth. It varies. They also play a lot of the horn parts themselves and those are featured pretty often
Does your family listen to them? my mom and my little sister adore them
Are they still making music today? They released anew album two days ago! stream midnight by set it off
Would you want to meet them? I have and they’re all such sweethearts
How represented is this artist in your saved music/collection? I have all their CDs and their entire available discography saved on both spotify and iTunes

When did you discover them? when they performed at an emo night a while ago and the internet lost its shit
How many albums do they have? just an EP and a standalone single currently
Which member of the band is closest to your ‘type’ / do you find the most attractive? I mean neither but I’ll acknowledge that Dallon is quite pretty
Have they gone through any line-up changes? nope
Is their music more fun or serious? it’s very well-done so I’d say it’s serious in that it’s like, quality music, but sound/vibe wise, it’s really really fun
Name of Artist: Chapel
Is the type of music / genre they play something you would typically enjoy or is their sound different for you? It’s not outside the realm of possibilities for me but it’s also not the most common sound in my playlists
Based off of their sound, what would a human version of their music look like? someone young, a lil bit sad, and colorfully-dressed
Could you see yourself getting along with the members personally? I think so
Did somebody recommend this band to you? Unless you count Awsten Knight talking about them constantly, no.
Of all their songs, which would you play at a party? We’ve Got Soul or Don’t You Love Me
Name of Artist: State Champs
How many people are in this band/group? Five.
When did they start making music? 2010
Do they have any well known songs, if so, which one(s)? I don’t think they have anything that’s mainstream well-known but according to spotify their most-streamed song is Secrets
Do you listen to this artist regularly? Definitely
How would you describe their music? pop punk with good, catchy choruses and very pleasant vocal melodies and harmonies
Name of Artist: Neck Deep
If they use a stage name, what is their real name(s)? Well I mean they don’t individually have stage names, but their names are Ben Barlow, Matt West, Sam Bowden, and Dani Abasi/Washington (well Dani has released music as Dani Rain actually so I guess that is a stage name but it doesn’t have to do with Neck Deep)
Do they regularly make pop charts? no
Have you ever met them? I haven’t but I watched them get into an Uber five feet away from me once
If they toured in your city, would you go see them? absolutely. They were incredible the last time
Name of Artist: CrazyEightyEight
Are they known for anything else besides music? I mean they’re known for other music that isn’t this band. First of all, they’re all from youtube (Patty and Jarrod don’t make youtube videos anymore but Lauren does). Also Lauren is in another band called Red-Handed Denial, Patty is in As It Is, and Jarrod has released a bunch of parody/comedy music
What is their nationality? Lauren is Canadian, Jarrod is American, and Patty is American-British
Are they a guilty pleasure? Nah, they’re way too good
Which age group is this artist most popular with? I honestly couldn’t tell you
Has this artist ever toured in your country/state/city? they haven’t toured, period
Name of Artist: Stand Atlantic
Do you think it’s necessary or important to know about their personal life to ‘understand’ their music? Eh, I don’t think so. Their music has a very personal feel but in a way that’s easy to connect to and identify with
Have they ever gone on hiatus and did they return? they haven’t gone on hiatus thankfully
What instruments do they use? guitar, bass, drums, and probably some synths
What city are they from? Sydney, Australia
What are your experiences with fans of this artist? meme-y lol but also nice. Lots of girls that are in love with Bonnie (myself included, god she's so talented)
I tag @bagelicious @maria-kart @momcena @oh-well-shit @je-me-libere @thingswelostinthefireradio @starry-knight12 @caimani @diamondboy @kartertawsten (no pressure to actually do this if you aren’t up for it, of course)

MLB roundup: Astros extend win streak to 9
2021-06-23 07:20:06 GMT+00:00 – Myles Straw homered and drove in two runs while starter Zack Greinke threw 7 1/3 strong innings as the visiting Houston Astros extended their winning streak to nine games with a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday.
Houston now has won 13 of its last 15. This loss gave Baltimore a four-game losing streak.
Greinke (8-2) befuddled the struggling Orioles offense. He allowed one run on five hits, struck out four and walked one, remaining in control until leaving in the eighth.
Ryan Pressly closed it in the ninth and earned his 11th save this season.
Baltimore starter Jorge Lopez (2-9) threw 6 1/3 innings in his longest start this season. He allowed two runs on five hits and also struck out six with two walks.
Mariners 2, Rockies 1
Shed Long Jr. hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the eighth inning and Seattle defeated visiting Colorado.
It was the second consecutive game in which Long homered to win the game. He hit a grand slam in the 10th inning Sunday to give Seattle a 6-2 victory against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rockies tied it in the seventh on a two-out solo home run by C.J. Cron, his 10th homer of the season.
Padres 3, Dodgers 2
Jake Cronenworth and Ha-Seong Kim homered off Clayton Kershaw and host San Diego held on to defeat Los Angeles.
It was the sixth consecutive win for the Padres, who are 6-3 against the defending National League West champs this season. Padres starter Blake Snell (3-3), who entered the game with a 5.72 ERA, shut out the Dodgers for five innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five.
Kershaw gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings.
Giants 5, Angels 0
Anthony DeSclafani threw seven scoreless innings and got plenty of offensive support while leading San Francisco over Los Angeles.
The Giants had 12 hits, including home runs from Wilmer Flores and Mauricio Dubon. Brandon Crawford went 3-for-3 with a walk.
DeSclafani (8-2) allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out nine on the way to winning his fourth consecutive start. He has allowed just four runs (three earned) in 27 innings during those outings, good for a 1.00 ERA.
Red Sox 9, Rays 5 (11 innings)
Rafael Devers hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the 11th inning as visiting Boston spoiled the major league debut of Tampa Bay top prospect Wander Franco in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Franco, ranked as baseball’s No. 1 prospect by MLB.com, hit a three-run homer for his first hit and finished 2-for-4 for the Rays, who have lost seven straight.
Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run homer and RBI single, Devers finished with three RBIs and J.D. Martinez added two RBIs for Boston, which has won five of seven.
Athletics 13, Rangers 6
Matt Chapman homered and drove in three runs as Oakland jumped out to a big lead before recording a victory over host Texas in Arlington.
Ramon Laureano also went deep among his three hits, and former Ranger Elvis Andrus and Mark Canha had two-run singles as part of their three-hit performances. Oakland provided insurance as Sean Murphy’s two-run double highlighted a four-run ninth inning.
Eli White belted a two-out homer in the seventh inning and Joey Gallo went deep to lead off the eighth and trim Oakland’s lead to 9-6. Texas, however, was unable to draw closer and sustained its 20th loss in the last 24 games.
Tigers 8, Cardinals 2
Jonathan Schoop capped Detroit’s six-run fourth-inning outburst with a three-run homer and the host Tigers defeated St. Louis.
Schoop’s homer was his 14th this season and ninth this month. Jake Rogers had two extra-base hits and drove in three runs and Akil Baddoo contributed two hits and scored twice.
Detroit starter Tarik Skubal gave up two runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings. St. Louis starter Johan Oviedo (0-3) gave up six runs, two earned, on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Paul DeJong reached base three times and scored a run, while Lars Nootbaar drove in a run in his major league debut.
Blue Jays 2, Marlins 1
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a go-ahead, run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning, leading Toronto over host Miami.

Miami’s Sandy Alcantara struck out seven in eight innings, allowing five hits, one walk and one run. He threw 55 of his 86 pitches for strikes as he lasted at least eight innings for the fourth time in his past six starts. He has a stellar 1.80 ERA over his past seven starts, although his record is just 3-3 during that span.
Jays starter Ross Stripling allowed just two hits, one walk and one run in six innings, striking out seven. Jays MVP candidate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Cubs 7, Indians 1
Kris Bryant, Willson Contreras and Patrick Wisdom homered as Chicago cruised to a win over visiting Cleveland.
Joc Pederson added a two-run double for the Cubs, who salvaged a split in the two-game series. Chicago’s seven-run outburst followed a string of nine straight games with three runs or fewer.
Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks (10-4) won his eighth consecutive start. He allowed no runs on four hits in six innings. Hendricks walked none and struck out five. Cleveland’s Eli Morgan (0-2) gave up four runs on four hits in five-plus innings. He walked none and struck out nine.
Nationals 3, Phillies 2
Yan Gomes singled twice and drove in two runs and Juan Soto added two hits and scored twice as Washington defeated host Philadelphia.
Nationals starter Max Scherzer (6-4) tossed five solid innings and allowed two hits and one run. Scherzer, who had been struggling with a groin injury, struck out eight and walked three.
Bryce Harper homered and singled while Rhys Hoskins homered and doubled for the Phillies. Manager Joe Girardi was ejected after a fifth-inning spat with Scherzer. Girardi asked the umpires to check Scherzer for a foreign substance and, after nothing was found, Girardi was ejected.
Royals 6, Yankees 5
Kansas City scored four runs in the eighth inning and Greg Holland survived a jam in the ninth as the Royals hung on for a victory over New York at Yankee Stadium.
By scratching out a rally against Jonathan Loaisiga (7-3), the Royals won for the second time in 34 games when trailing after seven innings.
Kansas City’s comeback occurred after the Yankees took a 3-2 lead when Wade scored on a wild pitch by Jake Brentz (2-0). Kyle Zimmer allowed a two-run homer to LeMahieu, and Scott Barlow stranded Aaron Judge at second in the eighth.
Pirates 6, White Sox 3
Erik Gonzalez and Bryan Reynolds each drove in two runs as Pittsburgh handed visiting Chicago its fifth straight loss.
Adam Frazier added a solo homer and walked and scored for the Pirates, who rode a four-run seventh inning to win for the third time in four games. Pittsburgh starter Tyler Anderson pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Yasmani Grandal hit a pinch-hit three-run homer for the White Sox, whose losing streak is their longest of the season. Chicago starter Lucas Giolito, making his first start against the Pirates since no-hitting them Aug. 25, gave up two runs and four hits in six innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Braves 3, Mets 0
Charlie Morton pitched seven scoreless innings and earned his 100th career win as visiting Atlanta blanked New York.
All of the Atlanta offense came from Dansby Swanson, who connected for a three-run homer off reliever Yennsy Diaz in the third inning. It was his 12th home run of the year.
Morton (7-3) allowed only one hit, a high chopper from pinch hitter Jerad Eickhoff with two outs in the fifth inning. Morton extended his scoreless streak to 14 2/3 innings. He walked two batters, hit two with pitches and struck out a season-high 11.
Brewers 5, Diamondbacks 0
Kolten Wong led off the game with a home run and Freddy Peralta tossed six strong innings as Milwaukee beat Arizona in Phoenix.
The Diamondbacks were held to two hits and lost for the 32nd time in their last 35 games. Arizona ended its franchise-record, 17-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory Monday in the series opener.
Peralta (7-2) allowed one hit and walked four while matching a season high with 10 strikeouts. Christian Yelich added a solo homer and Luis Urias drove in two runs for Milwaukee, which won for the third time in four games.
Reds 10, Twins 7
Tyler Naquin went 4-for-4, including a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the ninth, as Cincinnati snapped a five-game losing streak in a wild victory over Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Naquin drove a 2-1 fastball by Twins reliever Hansel Robles (3-4) 420 feet into the back of the bullpen in left-center for his 12th home run of the season. Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Jesse Winker added a two-run double for Cincinnati.
Ryan Jeffers, Max Kepler and Trevor Larnach each homered and Nelson Cruz went 3-for-4 and was also hit by a pitch for Minnesota, which had its season-best five-game winning streak snapped.

Once again an output from Pure Steel Records. Once again I let the press text speak first and comment on it then: “VERITATES, a four-man band from Cologne and Loerrach, are dedicated to traditional Power Metal without any clichés and a decent thrash edge. Strongly influenced by ICED EARTH in the Matt Barlow era and early KAMELOT, the debut album ‘Killing Time’ offers just the right material for fans of the aforementioned target group.” I am no expert concerning KAMELOT but I have a tattoo and thousands of memories to prove that I am in fact an expert concerning ICED EARTH and I have to state that I am not getting any ICED EARTH vibe from the band (no staccato riffing) or any likeness at all to Matt Barlow. The vocals are solid but they sound very Teutonic and remind me of bands like HELLOWEEN and sometimes GRAVEDIGGER in parts. Instrumentally everything is tightly arranged and pure joy for every Power Metal fan. My favourite is ‘The Wild Hunt’ with REINFORCER’s Logan Lexi on vocals. #schwermetallisch #reviews #picoftheday #nwothm #nwobhm #heavymetal #metal #rock #music #metalhead #hardrock #thrashmetal #guitar #metalmusic #metalband #rocknroll #metalheads #headbanger #powermetal #guitarist #concert #rockmusic #heavymetalmusic #speedmetal #livemusic #ironmaiden #doommetal #metallica #band #bandmerchlovers (hier: Herne, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7qtovIitoH/?igshid=14vzjofwgldtq

Arsenal vs Tottenham: Sportmail's reporters have their say
New Post has been published on http://usnewsaggregator.com/arsenal-vs-tottenham-sportmails-reporters-have-their-say/
Arsenal vs Tottenham: Sportmail's reporters have their say
The Premier League is back with a bang this weekend, as Arsenal and Tottenham face off in the north London derby in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Arsenal have long been top dog for most of the Premier League era, but Spurs have been impressive in the last couple of years and now head in as favourites.
Sportsmail’s reporters have picked the best players from both squads — if everyone was fit — and created their combined XIs.
The Premier League is back with a bang as Arsenal and Tottenham face off
Matt Barlow
Lloris; Alderweireld, D. Sanchez, Vertonghen; Bellerin, Alli, Wanyama, Eriksen, Rose; A. Sanchez, Kane (3-5-2)
It’s a bit Spursy but that’s not a bad thing anymore. Shame to leave out Eric Dier and Aaron Ramsey but this is a decent team. The Spurs back-three are impressive and Hugo Lloris is ahead of Petr Cech who is on the slide. The muscle of Victor Wanyama allows you to play with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in midfield. Pace out wide and goals up front.
Tottenham 9-2 Arsenal
Hugo Lloris is picked in goal ahead of Petr Cech in all of Sportsmail reporters’ combined XIs
Ian Ladyman
Lloris; Trippier, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Eriksen, Alli, Sanchez; Kane (4-2-3-1)
This almost felt painful to write. A north London composite XI with only one Arsenal player in it? That is as damning as it looks and, I am afraid, a sorry indication of the gap that has grown — and is growing — between these two clubs.
Looking at the options, I tried in interests of fairness to make a case for the Arsenal full-backs and even to try and find a place for Mesut Ozil, but I am afraid there is just something too athletic and irresistible about Mauricio Pochettino’s squad to reach any other conclusion than this one.
Alexis Sanchez gets in but only just. Maybe we should have included a subs’ bench too? Anything to get the red numbers up.
Tottenham 10-1 Arsenal
Only Alexis Sanchez could make it from Arsenal into several of the teams picked by our writers
Riath Al-Samarrai
Lloris; Bellerin, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen; Kane (4-2-3-1)
The problem here, or not as the case may be, is that it wasn’t even hard to leave out so many Arsenal players. I would possibly have Jack Wilshere ahead of Dier, but that is based on his best, which we haven’t seen for some time because of the injuries and Arsene Wenger’s decision not to pick him in big games.
The other decisions were pretty easy — Hector Bellerin over Kieran Trippier on the grounds of his pace, and no Ozil because I see him as a lesser player than each of the three I have behind Kane.
Tottenham 9-2 Arsenal
Riath Al-Samarrai prefers Hector Bellerin to Kieran Trippier due to his blistering pace
Lee Clayton
Lloris; Alderweireld, Dier, Vertonghen; Trippier, Rose; Eriksen, Alli, Winks; Kane, Sanchez (3-5-2)
I tried to find room for more Arsenal players. These things are always better when it’s six and five or a close call with difficult selections all over the pitch. This wasn’t a difficult selection.
Spurs have better players in almost every position and every area. Now can they put it together and win an important away game that declares them as serious title contenders? Right now they look a very talented team destined for third. Or second again.
Tottenham 10-1 Arsenal
Chris Wheeler
Lloris; Bellerin, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Ramsey; Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen; Kane (4-2-3-1)
It’s a telling indictment of the current Arsenal squad that when you compare the two sets of players like for like, Tottenham come out on top almost every time.
The only Arsenal player I feel compelled to include is Sanchez on the right side of an attacking trident behind Harry Kane. I would go for the pace of Bellerin at right back and Ramsey in midfield, but that’s about it for the Gunners.
There are still only four points separating the two rivals, however — and derby games being what they are, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsenal won at the Emirates and reduced that gap to one.
Tottenham 8-3 Arsenal
Tottenham’s Harry Kane unsurprisingly leads the line in every XI submitted for this article
Sam Cunningham
Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Winks; Eriksen, Alli; Kane, Sanchez (4-2-2-2)
The only Arsenal player I can see worthy of replacing a Tottenham counterpart in a combined XI is Sanchez, such is the strength of the squad Pochettino has built. Although there are a few close calls.
I’ve gone for the classic Brazil 4-2-2-2 formation; full backs Trippier and Danny Rose providing the width in attack and Dier tucking into a back three when they are advanced, with an immensely strong attacking and defensive core.
Trippier just edges Bellerin for me, and Davinson Sanchez was a tough omission given his form for Spurs this season. It was also difficult to decide between Ramsey and Harry Winks. Cech at his peak would’ve been ahead of Lloris in goal, but it’s no contest now.
Tottenham 10-1 Arsenal
Dominic King
Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Alli, Dier, Ramsey; Sanchez, Kane, Eriksen (4-3-3)
Only two Arsenal players in this combined line-up and they are, perhaps, lucky to have that. Ramsey is an excellent player and could fit in alongside Alli and Dier, while you would have to be daft to leave a fully fit Sanchez out of your squad.
Ozil or Eriksen? This one isn’t even up for debate. Ozil is playing in fits and starts, Eriksen is consistently outstanding. This combined team probably shows how much the balance of power has swung in north London.
Tottenham 9-2 Arsenal
Aaron Ramsey holds off likes of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele in Dominic King’s team
Laurie Whitwell
Lloris; Alderweireld, Koscielny, Vertonghen; Trippier, Dier, Eriksen, Rose; Sanchez, Alli; Kane (3-4-2-1)
Overwhelmingly populated by Spurs players, the only Arsenal members to get in are Laurent Koscielny, who would complement the back-three, and Sanchez, who at his best adds a different edge to attack. It seems a pretty clear cut case in all the other positions, with Dier in over Mousa Dembele for his ability to screen.
Tottenham 9-2 Arsenal
Joe Bernstein
Lloris; Alderweireld, Koscielny, Vertonghen; Bellerin, Dembele, Alli, Davies; Eriksen; Kane, Sanchez (3-4-1-2)
Only three Arsenal players make it — and it’s very close between Bellerin and Trippier, with the Spaniard having that little extra bit of pace as a wing-back.
Koscielny is a great defender who would make a back-three look impregnable alongside Tottenham’s two Belgians, and Sanchez would provide a wild card element up front.
I haven’t given up on Ozil as a top player — he was excellent against England — but Eriksen is just getting better and better, and it’s hard to play them in the same team.
There is a case for Alli being more effective from a deeper position, in order to make room for Sanchez.
Tottenham 8-3 Arsenal
Dele Alli scored against Arsenal in the last north London derby and will be eyeing the same
Mike Keegan
Lloris; Bellerin, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose; Dier; Ozil, Eriksen, Alli; Sanchez, Kane (4-1-3-2)
Just three Arsenal men in the line-up and you would not bet against every one of them leaving the club in the near future. An alarming state of affairs for the Gunners who, for me, are now very much the side heading south in the north of our capital.
Tottenham 8-3 Arsenal
Adam Crafton
Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Trippier, Dier, Winks, Rose; Eriksen, Alli; Kane (3-4-2-1)
It’s a Spurs full house. I was not intending to be incendiary when I started noting down this line-up but in each position I found my gut instinct leaning towards a more vibrant and exciting Tottenham player.
Tottenham’s goalkeeper and back three is non-negotiable; perhaps Bellerin was closest to making the cut and ousting Trippier. Arsenal’s central midfield has been a weakness for a decade now. I am basing this on the form of players this season so Alexis Sanchez therefore does not make the cut.
Tottenham 11-0 Arsenal

Kansas City Royals-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
4.27.23- Zack Greinke RHP (0-3) 4.61 ERA Vs. Tyler Mahle RHP (1-2) 3.32 ERA
4.28.23-Jordan Lyles RHP (0-4) 4.88 ERA Vs. Pablo Lopez RHP (1-2) 3.00 ERA
4.29.23-Brad Keller RHP (2-2) 3.96 ERA Vs. Sonny Gray RHP (3-0) 0.62 ERA
4.30.23-Brady Singer RHP (1-2) 8.14 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (4-0) 3.24 ERA
The Royals At A Glance- Things haven’t gotten much better for the Royals after the Twins swept them to start the season. They are (6-19) overall and (2-4) on this current ten-game road trip. The offense is averaging a little over three runs per game. Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino are leading the offense with four home runs each. Matt Duffy has been great in limited play with a .359 average. Jackie Bradley Jr. has struggled with just five hits in thirty-eight at-bats (.132) average. The Royals starting staff has a 4.75 ERA, which is twenty-first in the Majors. Brady Singer had a good first start and last start, but the three in the middle have been mediocre. The bullpen has been even worse with a 6.10 ERA, which is second-worst in MLB. Aroldis Chapman has allowed just two runs over 9 1/3 innings with a save and two holds. Amir Garrett and Josh Taylor have been good options from the left side as well. Scott Barlow 6.75 ERA and Carlos Hernandez 6.97 ERA haven’t been good.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins were on a three-game winning streak before the Yankees put up twelve runs in the series finale on Wednesday. The long homestand continues with four games against the lowly Royals. The Twins offense has came to life a bit with Jorge Polanco back. He is hitting .409 with six RBI in five games. Jose Miranda and Joey Gallo each hit two homers apiece in the Yankees series. Alex Kirilloff has hit three homers for the Saints and his rehab assignment is coming to an end soon. The team will need to make a decision on him and Trevor Larnach. The front office would like both of them to play everyday and there aren’t enough at-bats for both to stay on the Major League team currently. Kenta Maeda left Wednesday’s game with an elbow injury that isn’t related to his Tommy John surgery. He will miss some time and is getting an MRI on Thursday. Bailey Ober should take his spot in the rotation. The Twins starting staff has a 3.21 ERA, which fourth-best in the big leagues even after yesterday’s game. Sonny Gray has allowed just two runs over twenty-nine innings. Jorge Lopez has thrown 10 2/3 scoreless innings to start the year. The good arms in the bullpen got the day off on Wednesday with the blowout loss.
What To Watch For- The Twins swept the Royals at Kauffman Stadium to start the season. The Twins went (8-2) against the Royals at Target Field in 2022. Zack Greinke is (5-14) with a 4.51 ERA in thirty-one games against the Twins. Tyler Mahle is (1-0) with a 2.25 ERA in three games against the Royals. Jordan Lyles is (0-1) with a 3.13 ERA in four games versus the Twins. Pablo Lopez has a 1.54 ERA in two starts against the Royals. Brad Keller is (3-6) with a 3.89 ERA in fourteen games against the Twins. Jorge Polanco has two career homers off Keller. Sonny Gray is (8-2) with a 1.54 ERA in eleven starts versus Kansas City. Brady Singer is (2-5) with a 4.85 ERA in nine starts against Minnesota. Max Kepler has two career homers off Singer. Joe Ryan is (5-0) with a 1.20 ERA in five starts against the Royals. The Twins should be able to clean up on the Royals this weekend.

Go, Hustle, Be.
Personally, I’ve had a breakthrough of a year. I feel more confident, more financially stable, and just damn proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish.
Landing the Adobe Creative Residency back in April has propelled my independent design career in wonderful ways. It’s given me a massive platform to promote my work, share my process, and educate others along the way.
99U wrote a feature on Projecting West. Creative Review and then FastCo Design covered my work from the London Design Festival. Most affirming of all— one of my favorite publications, The Great Discontent, did a fantastic long-form interview on me.
I’ve met an incredible amount of new people, produced an impressive amount of work, but by the end of 2016 I had one big problem. One that’s hard to admit.
I’m completely overwhelmed.
I made a bunch of work in quick succession and it’s all piled up. Finding time to document work is a common struggle if you have another immediate project to jump to next. I push myself hard, but in the pressure put on myself to make the most of this residency, I’m drowning by being overly ambitious.
Hell— even finishing this recap post has a been a crazy-daunting task. I haven’t even posted on my blog since I got the residency in April. That needs to change. I miss writing about bits of process & behind the scenes of projects.
Typically when I get stressed, I let myself go on a tangent and work on whatever I really want to work on. That usually means I start another new idea, but so long as I’m happy & being productive, it works. Eventually I’ll snap out of it, and stay up all night churning out actual work to get out of a creative rut. This time, I completely shut down instead.
So, I spent the holidays reflecting, took some good time with friends and family, and disconnected— slowed down to better move forward.
I’ve succeeded in many ways this year, grown personally more than any other year in my life, yet I can’t help but be self-critical and focus on the ways I failed.
Here’s what I did this year.
january
Future is Inevitable
I kicked off 2016 with my first solo art show, which turned on just before midnight. Neutrally named, passers by stared into a magic doorway containing fleeting future memories.
Scoble Show — Napa Valley
Robert Scoble invited me to his 2nd annual party and I made a fun impromptu light installation on a tower of wine barrels and vineyard doors.
vimeo
White Noise Now Announce Video
After quietly experimenting with materials and bouncing ideas, I filmed and edited this launch teaser for a new collaborative with movement artist Erika Senft Miller and sound designer Miles Dean. (Scroll down, we launched the first performance in VT in Oct!)

An impromptu short made with two other PWLF artists, flying a glass airplane with a custom-built drone, to promote our creative works for the Portland Winter Light Festival.
Between Them — Portland Winter Light Festival
Bringing the bridges of Portland to life, imagining what inside jokes the pillars must have about these interesting Portland-folk. Given a spare projector, I showed the Future is Inevitable doorways on two neighboring pillars.
ZX + Future is Inevitable at AFRU Gallery
Same weekend as the PWLF, I showed these two pieces in a group show called ByteMe 5.0.
march
Object Theory Branding
I was fortunate to work with creative director Amy Hillman to create a visual brand for Object Theory, named Most Innovative AR/VR Companies of 2016 by Fast Company.
Epiccurence — The Montues
Invited by Dann Petty to augment the space, ended up creating an impromptu projection with live visuals. I met so many amazing creative humans.
Portland Monthly
I did a couple projection mapping installations at various events for Portland Monthly. One of them was ruined by an amazing sunset.
Applied for Adobe Creative Residency
My good friend Mike Ackerman told me about some creative residency thing but the deadline was only 2 days away. I stayed up all night and submitted my Light Capsules concept for it. Glad I pulled that all-nighter.
april
Soundtoys / Julianna Barwick
Projection mapping live graphics on a cyc wall at Soundtoys while responding to the beautiful sounds of Julianna Barwick.
Jackson Hole Road Trip
Drove out to Jackson, WY to hang out with a close friend Nick, scope out ghostsigns, and mentally prepare for the upcoming year of residency work.

NikeLab x RT
As soon as I began the residency, I was separately approached by NikeLab for an animation/installation project. Adobe completely encouraged me to pursue it, taking time to focus on what resulted in an animated Ricardo Tischi pattern that was shown globally.
Light Capsule 006 — Portland, ME
Of course I had to put my hometown on the map. This one was quite a challenge to figure out, with a few mysteries that remain... Read more about it in my latest article on Adobe Create Magazine.
Light Capsule 007 —Portland, ME
For a “ghost sign,” this one wasn’t too worn, but I couldn’t resist using it to confuse people in the Portland out west.
september
XOXOFEST 2016
Collaborative light installation with my studiomate Ben Purdy. To commemorate the 5th year and impending hiatus of the festival, we blended glitched recap & speaker videos of past with a secret live feed from the bar. This was our first time actually working together on a project. (We’ve actually been paid to not work together before, but that’s another story.)
London Design Festival
Whoa. Huge trip to London to bring a series of Light Capsules across the pond. Collaborated with Sam Roberts of Ghostsigns. I was also honored to kick off the festival by speaking at the V&A Museum and share my story & process.
Light Capsule 008 — Take Courage
I couldn’t not do this sign for Courage Beer. The message actually comes from war time era, and ‘take’ is used like ‘take your medicine.’ So many meanings and history in this simple two-word phrase. So good in fact, we did this sign twice, the Saturday to start the festival, and the following Saturday to end it.
Light Capsule 009 — Barlow & Roberts
Up close & personal, this wooden sign tucked under a bridge and squeezed between two structures was a great way to demonstrate the projection mapping technique and process.
Light Capsule 010 — Cakebread Robey
Another palimpsest, this one up in Stoke Newington, it was interesting to analyze the two layers and see what changed as the business changed and grew.
Light Capsule Worldwide Party — Distillery Bar
Halfway through the London Design Festival, we took over a blank wall and brought to it a digital collection of signs from all over the world.
Light Capsule 011 — Wire Works
The left part of this sign was on the corner of a building that collapsed during the war. When it was rebuilt, they filled in the bricks, but didn't repaint.
Light Capsule 012 — Westminster Gillette
As the finale of the London Design Festival series, we brought to life this triple palimpsest that took some special figuring out using historical photographs.
october
White Noise Now presents — SALT
When we announced this back in January, I had no idea the second half of my year would get so insane. Fortunately, Adobe was super supportive of the WNN project, funded it, and I roped it into my residency. It was named Best Art Installations of 2016 by Seven Days. We’re very close to sharing the video of this performance installation, and I can’t wait to grow this collaborative further.
Light Capsule 013 — Detroit, MI
Pushing the Light Capsules project further, I collaborated with Miss Van to augment her mural alongside an existing ghost sign. This was also recorded in 360º on a Gear 360.
november
Adobe MAX Speaker
Third talk of the year, and the biggest of my life. I broke down a 60 min talk into a 10 min backstory, 20 min on Projecting West, and 20 min on Light Capsules. It went super well.
Adobe MAX BASH — Entrance
I created a light installation at the entrance to the MAX BASH, projection mapping on a sculpture of 42 surfboards. Naturally, I titled this MAX BORTS.
december
New work studio
Prior to the closing of the XOXO Outpost, my studiomate Ben Purdy noticed a new studio on craigslist… with a ghost sign in it. We toured a few other places, but the Goldsmith Blocks are pretty great and now I work up close with Big Philip.
New loft apartment
In another crazy timing circumstance, my roommate was moving out and I noticed a dream apartment opened up downtown: a big gorgeous studio loft in a converted historical industrial building. Pulled the trigger on it. Moved everything in a day. First time living alone, too, but it feels just right.
Monster Project SF
My mentor at Adobe, Stefano Corazza, organized an incredible gallery show for The Monster Project, hosted in the freshly renovated Adobe SF Headquarters. I flew down to create something fun and impulsive for it. With only a day to put something together, I brought on my pal Mike Ackerman and we ended up getting a bunch of paper lanterns and turned a festive tree into a creepy monster.
1 Hotels
Another side venture started in 2015 that is gaining some solid momentum, I’m working with 1 Hotel to realize an experimental new type of immersion room in their South Beach location. Details to come!
This recap post.
Last year I was in the same situation, everything piles up, holidays hit, and I bury myself in unrealistic expectations for a massive end of year post. (You know, something epic like what Mailchimp does.) This year, I reached a limit, and quietly imploded.
2 0 1 6 mantra. Go, Hustle, Be.
GO. — I certainly went. Even hit my goal to go international, too. London, Vancouver, Tijuana, plus lots around the states.
HUSTLE. — Looking at the above, I definitely got a lot done this year. Biggest accomplishment by far was landing the residency of my dreams.
BE. — I’m proud of the quality time I’ve had with many of the new people in my life, but I still need to dedicate more time to reflection and sharing my process.
2 0 1 7 mantra. Let’s do this. (smarter, better, together)
Everything is lining up for me to propel myself forward with the momentum gained through this residency with Adobe. I want to do some incredible things next… but I can’t possibly do this alone. Nor do I want to.
Especially in the wake of this volatile election, I want to band together with my creative peers to build projects that bring people together and create ripples of positive impact.
This year I’m going to take serious steps to work smarter, optimize my workflow, and take more time for myself. I’ve stopped flying around like an idiot for a bit, and started an actual routine. I wake up at a certain time, make breakfast, coffee, read a chapter of a book, then walk to the studio.
And now I’ve completed this post, and can somewhat satisfyingly check it off my list, and move forward.
Let’s do this, 2017. —Craig
A FEW THINGS COMING UP 2017:
Jan 20 — Speaking at Adobe Creative Jam Portland, PSU Feb 1-4 — Light Capsules series at Portland Winter Light Festival Feb/Mar — Light Capsules road trip to SXSW from LA to Austin Mar 30 — Immersive visuals for Beowulf at Princeton University.

It is, like the story began, the best of times and the worst of times — an era received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
There are three major league teams on pace to win 104 or more games — a mark reached by only 10 teams in the past 40 years — and another two on pace to win 99.5. (There have never been four 100-win teams in a single season.) There are three teams on pace to lose 104 or more games, another on track to lose 101 and a fifth on pace to lose 99. (There has only once been four 100-loss teams in a single season.) Fully a third of the league could end up at one of the two triple-digit extremes that typically would mark The Best or The Worst team in baseball.
How to put the gap between, say, the Yankees and, say, the Orioles, in context? A simple way is to note that the Yankees are 17-2 when the two clubs play. Or to note that the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers — the three 104-wins-or-better clubs — are collectively 41-12 against the Orioles, Tigers, Royals and Marlins, the four 101-losses-or-worse clubs.

A more complicated way is to ask this: How many of these bad teams would it take to make up one of these great teams? Would a playoff superteam of the Royals, Orioles, Tigers and Marlins be able to hang with the super playoff teams in Houston, New York and Los Angeles? In an era of total teardowns on the bleak side of the standings and insatiable depth hoarding on the bright side of them, is there room for any good players on a last-place roster?
To answer this question took 17 tabs in a spreadsheet.
Here were the rules: We built 25-man rosters for the Astros, Yankees, Dodgers and Tigeroyiolins — on second thought, that’s the only time we’ll attempt to call them that. Henceforth, they will be the Superteam — based entirely on 2019 stats: a starter at every position, four bench players covering infield, outfield and catcher, a four-man starting rotation (because only four are needed in the postseason) and an eight-man bullpen. We prorated each player’s 2019 WAR for a full, healthy season in the role he is assigned to: 600 plate appearances for starters (except 500 for the catcher), 250 for bench players, 175 innings for starting pitchers and 65 for relievers (except 95 for one designated swingman).* The plan was to see how many bad teams it takes to compete with the Astros, Dodgers and Yankees.
We’ll start the bidding at four teams, do I hear four teams?
SUPERTEAM
C Pedro Severino, 1B Garrett Cooper, 2B Jonathan Villar, 3B Hanser Alberto, SS Adalberto Mondesi, LF Trey Mancini, CF Whit Merrifield, RF Hunter Dozier, DH Jorge Soler
DODGERS
C Will Smith, 1B David Freese, 2B Max Muncy, 3B Justin Turner, SS Corey Seager, LF Alex Verdugo, CF Joc Pederson, RF Cody Bellinger, DH A.J. Pollock
ASTROS
C Robinson Chirinos, 1B Yuli Gurriel, 2B Jose Altuve, 3B Alex Bregman, SS Carlos Correa, LF Michael Brantley, CF Jake Marisnick, RF George Springer, DH Yordan Alvarez
YANKEES
C Gary Sanchez, 1B Luke Voit, 2B DJ LeMahieu, 3B Gio Urshela, SS Gleyber Torres, LF Giancarlo Stanton, CF Brett Gardner, RF Aaron Judge, DH Edwin Encarnacion
The best player on any of the Orioles, Royals, Tigers or Marlins, by total WAR, has been Jonathan Villar, acquired in a midseason trade by Baltimore last summer. At the time, the competitive Brewers were trying to upgrade at second base, so they traded their second baseman (Villar) and a couple of prospects for the non-competitive Orioles’ second baseman, Jonathan Schoop. Since then, Villar has been the 42nd-best player in baseball, just ahead of Trea Turner, Paul Goldschmidt and Manny Machado. He has been the ninth-best second baseman, while Schoop is 42nd. It was a masterful trade by the Orioles: 21 homers, 33 steals, 3.8 WAR this year.
Mike Trout is now better than … wait for it … Derek Jeter. Sam Miller »
So, there are good players on the Superteam, of which Villar is undeniably one. Soler has 44 homers, Alberto is hitting .320, Mondesi has 39 steals, Dozier is slugging .550. But the fact that Villar is the best player that the four teams can produce puts the Superteam’s uphill climb in perspective: Teams who are committed to losing don’t keep MVP candidates around. Villar is not an MVP candidate, the way Cody Bellinger and Alex Bregman are. He is not even above-average by the standards of the other three teams’ rosters: There are 21 Dodgers, Astros or Yankees who have produced more WAR than Villar on a per-plate-appearance level this year. Villar is cast here as the best player on any of four major league rosters.
The Superteam might make it up on depth or pitching, but its nine best players simply can’t compete with the nine regulars on any of our three historically great teams:
Superteam: 175 homers, .281/.341/.474, 26.4 WAR (scaled to 600 plate appearances per player) Dodgers: 199 homers, .276/.361/.532, 42.3 WAR Astros: 210 homers, .293/.372/.544, 46.2 WAR Yankees: 206 homers, .279/.355/.519, 39.7 WAR
(Note that all of these teams’ WARs are exceptionally high, even higher than the Astros, Dodgers and Yankees’ lineups have actually produced this year. That’s because we’re picking only their very best player performances, after the fact, giving the teams full health and awarding nearly all playing time to those nine best players. Real life doesn’t go this smoothly.)
But those are just the starters. In theory, depth could benefit the Superteam. There’s no Cody Bellinger on a 100-loss team, almost by definition, but there might be a whole lot of Mike Fords.
On the other hand, depth is part of what makes these Dodgers, Astros and Yankees so incredible. They’re not building nine-man lineups, but 13-man lineups — players able to platoon, to move around the field and to not just fill in but very nearly replicate injured starters. Over the course of a full season, when 50 or 60 players might be called upon, the Superteam’s depth almost certainly would win out. But for just a 25-man roster, the good teams are nearly as deep:
SUPERTEAM
C Jorge Alfaro, INF Miguel Rojas, OF Anthony Santander. UT Jon Berti
DODGERS
C Russell Martin, INF Enrique Hernandez, OF Matt Beaty, UT Chris Taylor
ASTROS
C Martin Maldonado, INF Abraham Toro, OF Josh Reddick, UT Aledmys Diaz
YANKEES
C Austin Romine, INF Didi Gregorius, OF Cameron Maybin, UT Mike Ford
Superteam: .276/.330/.437, 4.6 WAR (scaled to 250 plate appearances per player) Dodgers: .254/.331/.434, 4.1 WAR Astros: .251/.322/.425, 3.9 WAR Yankees: .260/.318/.473, 3.6 WAR
The Superteam inches up, but barely.
As to starting pitchers:
SUPERTEAM
Matthew Boyd, John Means, Brad Keller, Spencer Turnbull
DODGERS
Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Walker Buehler, Rich Hill
ASTROS
Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Zack Greinke, Wade Miley
YANKEES
James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Domingo German, J.A. Happ
The Superteam’s staff has one All-Star appearance (Means, this year) and zero Cy Young votes. The other three teams’ pitchers have won five Cy Youngs and appeared in 31 All-Star Games. But it’s not quite as bad as it looks. The Superteam’s rotation actually has been better than the Yankees’ rotation, despite a 28-48 combined record this year (thanks to terrible offenses behind them and terrible bullpens protecting their leads). Still, it’s not great:
Superteam: 4.24 ERA, 4.31 FIP, 12.0 WAR (scaled to 175 innings per pitcher) Dodgers: 2.84 ERA, 3.51 FIP, 15.6 WAR Astros: 3.08 ERA, 3.62 FIP, 17.0 WAR Yankees: 4.45 ERA, 4.62 FIP, 10.5 WAR
Again, in a longer season the Superteam might benefit. It’s fair to say the Superteam’s eighth- and ninth-best starters — Daniel Norris and Jakob Junis, maybe? — are better than Houston’s. But Houston isn’t going to need eight starters to get through October, and at the top of the staffs it’s a huge mismatch.
For bullpens, we chose to limit our options to actual relievers, so unused starting pitchers (for example, Daniel Norris, Jakob Junis) were not generally considered for the Superteam’s bullpen. Pitchers such as Ross Stripling and Kenta Maeda, who have both started and relieved this year, and who are likely to be in the Dodgers’ actual postseason bullpen, were:
SUPERTEAM
CL Ian Kennedy, RP Mychal Givens, RP Scott Barlow, RP Buck Farmer, RP Shawn Armstrong, RP Jarlin Garcia, RP Jose Cisnero, SWING Sandy Alcantara
DODGERS
CL Kenley Jansen, RP Pedro Baez, RP Yimi Garcia, RP Ross Stripling, RP Dustin May, RP Kenta Maeda, RP Joe Kelly, SWING Julio Urias
ASTROS
CL Roberto Osuna, RP Ryan Pressly, RP Will Harris, RP Joe Smith, RP Hector Rondon, RP Chris Devenski, RP Josh James, SWING Brad Peacock
YANKEES
CL Aroldis Chapman, RP Tommy Kahnle, RP Adam Ottavino, RP Chad Green, RP David Hale, RP Zack Britton, RP Luis Cessa, SWING Jonathan Loaisiga
Superteam: 3.96 ERA, 3.90 FIP, 7.3 WAR (scaled to 65 innings per pitcher) Dodgers: 3.74 ERA, 3.85 FIP, 7.9 WAR Astros: 3.24 ERA, 3.86 FIP, 6.9 WAR Yankees: 3.15 ERA, 3.78 FIP, 8.4 WAR
Add it all up:
Superteam: 50.3 WAR
Dodgers: 69.9 WAR
Astros: 74.0 WAR
Yankees: 62.2 WAR
To repeat something from earlier: 74 WAR is a crazy-high total for the Astros, and it would equate to about a 120-win team in real life. But it assumes almost perfect health and almost perfect decision-making by the Astros, funneling nearly all of their playing time to the players who actually were the best this year.
Who has clinched a postseason spot and who could be next? Playoff tracker
2019 postseason schedule
But the same applies to the Superteam. The ex post facto nature of this exercise benefits them most of all, because it allows us to accurately pick, from the 215 or so mostly anonymous players these four teams will field this year, the 25 who actually had the best years — in many cases, career years, years unlike any they’ve ever had or will have again.
Indeed, if we were to use not actual, observed WAR to measure each roster’s strength, but projected, future WAR, the Superteam would fall even further behind. In that case, team strength would look something more like this:
The Superteam built above, in other words, projects to be somewhere around a .500 team, assuming good health, while the others project to be around 100-win teams. I think we can say, conclusively, that four teams put together still aren’t as good as the Astros, the Dodgers or the Yankees. Wild.
Do I hear five teams?
Superteam 2: Superteam + Blue Jays. Add Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Bo Bichette, Danny Jansen, Wilmer Font and Ken Giles. Remove Miguel Rojas, Trey Mancini, Jorge Alfaro, Jose Cisnero and Sandy Alcantara.
Total WAR: 58.1.
Do I hear six teams?
Superteam 3: Superteam 2 + Mariners. Add Kyle Seager, Tom Murphy, Marco Gonzales and Sam Tuivailala. Remove Jon Berti, Danny Jansen, Brad Keller and Jarlin Garcia.
Law’s 2019 prospects of the year
A home run mark for all 30 teams
One key for each wild-card hopeful
Olney: What’s next for the Red Sox?
Total WAR: 64.3, good enough to pass this year’s Yankees (who, it’s worth noting, are without excellent outfielders Aaron Hicks and Mike Tauchman, both key contributors this year but both out for the season, and Luis Severino and Dellin Betances, who have no statistical records to go on this year but could each return for the playoffs).
Do I hear seven teams?
Superteam 4: Superteam 3 + Rockies. Add Trevor Story, Nolan Arenado, Ryan McMahon, Jon Gray, German Marquez and Scott Oberg. Remove Adalberto Mondesi, Hanser Alberto, Garrett Cooper, Spencer Turnbull, Marco Gonzales and Buck Farmer. Break the rules and move Bo Bichette to second base.
Total WAR: 68.4. Still worse than the Dodgers and the Astros. Do I hear eight teams?
Superteam 5: Superteam 4 + Pirates. Add Josh Bell, Bryan Reynolds, Jacob Stallings and Felipe Vazquez. Remove Ryan McMahon, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Pedro Severino and Shawn Armstrong.
Total WAR: 72.9. Ahead of the Dodgers and somehow still behind the Astros.
Do. I. Hear. Niiiiiiine teams?
Superteam 6: Superteam 5 + White Sox. Add Lucas Giolito, James McCann, Aaron Bummer and Tim Anderson. Remove Matthew Boyd, Jacob Stallings, Scott Barlow and … Jonathan Villar.
Total WAR: 75.7. Phew.
Is the conclusion too hard to believe? Does it seem credible if you simply look at the rosters?
SUPERTEAM
C Tom Murphy, 1B Josh Bell, 2B Bo Bichette, 3B Nolan Arenado, SS Trevor Story, LF Bryan Reynolds, CF Whit Merrifield, RF Hunter Dozier, DH Jorge Soler, UT Tim Anderson, UT Kyle Seager, UT Anthony Santander, UT James McCann, SP Lucas Giolito, SP John Means, SP Jon Gray, SP German Marquez, RP Felipe Vazquez, RP Ian Kennedy, RP Ken Giles, RP Mychal Givens, RP Sam Tuivailala, RP Aaron Bummer, RP Scott Oberg, RP Wilmer Font
ASTROS
C Robinson Chirinos, 1B Yuli Gurriel, 2B Jose Altuve, 3B Alex Bregman, SS Carlos Correa, LF Michael Brantley, CF Jake Marisnick, RF George Springer, DH Yordan Alvarez, UT Aledmys Diaz, UT Abraham Toro, UT Josh Reddick, UT Martin Maldonado, SP Gerrit Cole, SP Justin Verlander, SP Zack Greinke, SP Wade Miley, RP Ryan Pressly, RP Roberto Osuna, RP Will Harris, RP Joe Smith, RP Hector Rondon, RP Chris Devenski, RP Josh James, RP Brad Peacock
The Astros have the two best starting pitchers, maybe the three best. They have, easily, the best player (in Bregman), and by WAR per plate appearance this year they have the three best (Bregman, Alvarez, Springer). They have five of the top seven, with only Trevor Story and Bo Bichette reaching 5 WAR per 600 plate appearances on the Superteam side. While depth eventually will favor the Superteam, all of the 104-win teams have built extremely deep 25-man rosters. Of our original Superteam 1 players, maybe half would have made the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster.
The point is, this is really some kind of era we’re living in. You’re seeing some of the worst baseball that’s ever been played. The Tigers actually don’t have a single above-average hitter, in any number of plate appearances above two. And you’re seeing some of the best baseball that’s ever been played. According to Baseball Prospectus’ third-order winning percentages, this year’s Astros and Dodgers actually are the two best teams since 1950. It’s amazing that these teams have coexisted in the same league, occasionally playing against each other, standing next to each other, and had it even look like baseball at all. It’s a baseball miracle.
But that’s not the payoff for this era. The payoff is the postseason, when as many as five 100-win teams — and three historically great ones — are going to smash into each other, with barely a below-average player in the bunch. Truly, it can’t get here fast enough.
* In cases of injury, the player was included on the roster if he seemed likely to return sometime this year or if he would return but for his team being out of contention. He was not included if he definitely is out for the year, like the Marlins’ Brian Anderson. Players who have been traded away, like the former Tiger Nick Castellanos, aren’t eligible. There was some preference to players with more playing time, but mainly we went with the most productive players on a per-PA basis. And players are allowed to play slightly out of position if, as with Whit Merrifield, they’ve played at least some significant time at the position to which we wish to assign them. We used Baseball-Reference’s WAR for hitters and FanGraphs’ WAR for pitchers.

Football news: Graeme Jones is in at the deep end with Luton
Graeme Jones pauses in the midst of the frenzy of the start of the season, takes the weight off his feet for half an hour and leaves his mind drive back 12 months.
& # 39; We beat England on Saturday & # 39 ;, Jones says with wide eyes, recalling how close Belgium won the World Cup last summer in Russia when he was assistant manager used to be.
& # 39; We received the bronze medals, immediately flew back to Brussels, went to the king the next day and had a parade around the city, which was full; we ended up on the balcony in the big place. A hell of an experience.
Graeme Jones is preparing to take the lead this season over Luton in the championship
It is his first position as manager after years of working as an assistant all over the world
& We took the bus back after ar the Belgian Federation, got into our cars & went home. And that was it, the World Cup ended, a brilliant nine weeks.
& # 39; It was demanding and it was successful – the highest finish ever for Belgium is a great achievement – but I can't help feeling that we have wasted an opportunity. That is the truth. & # 39;
The shared success kept the group close. Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard have moved to Real Madrid. Romelu Lukaku is in the middle of a transfer. Thierry Henry, another assistant to Roberto Martinez, briefly went to Monaco. They all stay in touch.
Jones was part of Roberto Martinez & # 39; s line up with Belgium and reached the World Cup last four
Jones with Martinez when the Spaniard was in charge of Everton in the Premier League
Jones is in Luton. Maybe not the same glamorous destination as some who text him, but exactly where he wants to lead a new championship season that starts Friday with his team at home in Middlesbrough.
He waited ten years for this opportunity and at the age of 49 he stepped out of the coaching shadows to test himself as a manager.
& # 39; I have rejected five or six managerial duties over the past 10 years, & Jones says. "I have seen its impact on Roberto & # 39; s life and I didn't want that when my two sounds grew up. Now, they are 20 and 22, and do their own thing.
"We were on vacation and one of them said," Dad, you are always calling. "I said," Hey, I waited 10 years to get this phone, I waited until you were old enough to understand. "
The 49-year-old sat down with Sportsmail's Matt Barlow for the new campaign
"I didn't want to lose that family time. But I wanted the chance, the challenge. This time when it came, everything felt good. The timing felt good. The job felt good, manager, not a head coach. And the club felt right."
It's a fantastic, traditional club, and when Mick Harford brought them to Wembley in 2009, more than 42,000 fans went to the club and the supporters are not t forget they were non-league not long ago.
& # 39; They are realistic but ambitious. There is a chance to move to a new stadium. No one has ever promoted Luton to the Premier League. That is the challenge. And it's one that I like. & # 39;
It was Harford who led Luton to promotion in May and took the lead when Nathan Jones retired from Stoke in January before returning to a position as chief recruitment officer.
Jones admitted that over the years he had a series of managerial positions had been rejected
Jones was the man they wanted and accepted the job in February but did not walk away on Darren Moore and West Brom mid-season.
Luton was confident enough to show patience, took the League One title and returned to the second level for the first time since relegation 2007.
There are some parallels with Swansea, the club Martinez and Jones helped to revive and led from the depths into a new era of hope.
After all the unrest, so many things feel good with Luton, and yet the task is huge, fighting with a small budget in a brutal division against clubs with much larger resources
He intends to stick to his principles of attacking football and his talent at Luton
People continue to ask me where Luton will end up and I don't know, says Jones. Job My job is to get the most out of what we have. Very similar to what I have done before. Totally different but the same. & # 39;
Jones will do anything about it. He will remain faithful to his principles of attacking football and trust his talent.
The last time he spoke to Martinez was July 13. "I wish him a happy birthday," says Jones. "He was 46 and I was wrong. I thought he was 45. & # 39;
Martinez will understand. He will be amused when he discovered to his friend how non-football details are sacrificed when you are the manager. And he will be there when needed. Good advice at the end of a telephone in the middle of the frenzy.

Dozier drives in 4 to pace Royals in 9-4 win over Angels
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hunter Dozier hit a pair of two-run triples to set a career high with four RBIs, Kelvin Gutierrez drove in two runs in his big league debut, and the Kansas City Royals cruised to a 9-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.
Dozier wound up with four hits and Adalberto Mondesi had three in a game that dragged on for 3 hours, 40 minutes. The teams combined for 10 pitchers, 22 hits and 17 runners left on base on a cold, blustery evening at Kauffman Stadium.
Scott Barlow (1-0) navigated five outs in relief of Jorge Lopez to earn the win, while Jaime Barria was tagged with an ugly stat line and the loss for Los Angeles.
Barria (2-2) was listed as the starter but came in after Cam Bedrosian tossed a scoreless first inning. Barria proceeded to allow seven runs and 10 hits over 1 2/3 innings.
The game was knotted 1-all in the third when the Royals paraded 11 batters to the plate.
They cranked out eight hits and plated six runs with Gutierrez and Dozier doing most of the damage. Mondesi wound up with a pair of singles in the inning, the first Royals player to accomplish that feat since Ryan Goins last May against the Twins.
The Angels threatened to answer the six-spot in the fourth when they battered around, but they failed to take advantage of three walks and only scored three while leaving the bases loaded.
Dozier added his second two-run triple in the fifth to restore some of the cushion.
Mike Trout drove in a pair of runs for Los Angeles, but that was just about the only bright spot on another tough night on the road. The Angels fell to 3-15 in their last 18 road contests, and they still have not won back-to-back games away from home since last September.
ALL THAT GLITTERS
Royals outfielder Alex Gordon and catcher Salvador Perez were presented with their Gold Gloves before the game. It was the sixth for Gordon and fifth for Perez, who is out for the season after reconstructive elbow surgery. The ceremony was postponed from opening day due to weather.
THE NEW KELVIN
Gutierrez was called up Friday night after hitting .333 at Triple-A Omaha. The 24-year-old third baseman was acquired by the Royals last June for longtime reliever Kelvin Herrera.
ROSTER MOVES
The Royals recalled left-hander Ben Lively from Omaha and optioned right-hander Heath Fillmyer to the same club prior to the game. Lively was 2-1 with a 4.41 ERA in four appearances with the Storm Chasers.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Angels: DH Shohei Ohtani hit against live pitching before the game, but manager Brad Ausmus “bet my house” he wouldn’t play before Wednesday. Ohtani is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Royals: CF Billy Hamilton left in the fifth inning with a tight right hamstring.
UP NEXT
Angels right-hander Matt Harvey, who made two starts against Kansas City in the 2015 World Series, gets the start in the series finale Sunday. Right-hander Homer Bailey is on the mound for the Royals.

Album Review: ‘The Peace and The Panic’ by Neck Deep
The ebb and flow of various styles of music is a fascinating and curious thing. Pop punk for example, a genre that was brought into the mainstream and made commercially successful over twenty years ago, ultimately peaking with an abundance of such bands in the early 2000s, ushering in a resurgence of sorts. The genre is largely still championed by bands from those era, be it Green Day or blink-182 or New Found Glory or Good Charlotte. There’s a host of others out there too, still kicking all of these years later and arguably better than ever before. But for the most part, there has been few new and noteworthy happenings in that world as indie, rock, pop and such genres came back into favor. Of course, there are a few exceptions to that, and Neck Deep is certainly one of them. From starting off as a project that was mainly just for kicks to evolving into a fully fleshed out band ready for live shows, they have subsequently taken the world by storm (or at least a good portion of it). The UK-based outfit has won over crowds all over the globe during their relentless touring, supporting highly respected names and doing their own headline runs. And the successes should only keep piling up, the quintet’s latest effort, the recently released The Peace and The Panic (out via Hopeless Records) standing poised to be one of the most solid releases in pop punk. Period. The near dozen songs have been thoughtfully curated, evoking a pure and classic pop punk sound but one infused with modern touches as a way to fit with the here and now. In addition to that, this collection of songs represent a new era for Neck Deep, the music sounding more mature in regards to the stories told, demonstrating just how much they have grown over the last few years, pushing themselves to new heights.
That’s seen right off the bat with the lead song “Motion Sickness”, which begins a sort of theme that is revisited a few times throughout the record: one that focuses on the passing of Ben Barlow’s father and how that loss has affected the frontman. Musically it’s as upbeat and chipper as possible, packing an explosive punch that demands the listener succumb and let it take hold. One can easily imagine being at a show and the friendly moshing that is likely to ensue, the charged guitars and pronounced, rapid-fire percussion, together mounting an all-out assault that is irresistible. The story it delves into is extremely sentimental, though, Barlow detailing working to come to grips with that loss and some of the greater meanings of life as he searches for some sort of solace. Lines such as “…But then I find myself in bed, lost inside my head again. Running over everything…” recount the times spent trying to reckon everything. Optimism is teeming from the catchy music bed, though the only place it’s reflected in terms of the story is the chorus, which offers a much-needed jolt of joy to the track, as it focuses on words of encouragement to never stop pursuing your dreams, because you never know how close you might be to attaining them. While far from qualifying as depressing (reflective would be a better way to describe that first song), the album doesn’t get hung-up on such heavy subject matter. Nevertheless, “Happy Judgement Day” is not one to take lightly, the lead single released in advance of the album standing as a definite highlight from it. Political to an extent, it doesn’t get too specific in regards to what is wrong with the world and who is responsible for it. Then again, perhaps everyone is culpable to a degree, at least through the eyes of this track; the number capturing a sense of disbelief in how close humanity may actually be to the end with all of the unrest and turmoil currently happening in the world. More than that, it also focuses on what people could do to fight it, not so subtly hinting at how obsessed people have become with social media and celebrities among other issues, as the group stresses people wake up to what’s truly going on around them. “Happy Judgement Day” epitomizes pop punk, capturing that rebellious spirit as it urges a change; the riffs being sharp and action-packed, the song as a whole extremely dynamic. While that single fails to be assertive in regards to action against the system, “Don’t Wait” does not. It stands as a legitimate political anthem while also acting as the heaviest cut from TPATP. There’s more of a hardcore branding to it, and not just due to the fact that they enlisted the help of Sam Carter from Architects on the bridge and final chorus. Dani Washington’s drumming even feels more robust, a little extra kick drum added to the mix, Fil Thorpe-Evans rounding that out with some heavy bass lines that saturate the song with a thickness typically not heard on Neck Deep’s material. It may not be for them all the time, though they make it sound incredible. It’s in their wheelhouse and it’s refreshing in a way. Stopping short of advocating for anarchy, “Don’t Wait” does highlight the importance of questioning one’s government and any and all news people consume, illustrating how those in control use divisive techniques to keep citizens from realizing who the real enemy is. It’s all too relevant to the current state of the world; Neck Deep deserving some serious kudos for using their platform to address something so serious. Loss continues to permeate the album, the band also pushing themselves sonically with “Wish You Were Here”, which acts as the lull on The Peace and The Panic. The entirely acoustic song coupled with the sincerity of the lyrics ensures it winds up being the most heartfelt offering on the album, one brimming with sorrow. A sorrow that borders on being forlorn as it focuses on losing anyone – a dear friend or even a family member – and reminiscing of all the great times had and all the memories that should still be being made, taking little comfort in words designed to make one feel better. It is a song about what was and what could have been, if only things had been different and life had stretched out further for a certain person. “Wish You Were Here” may be the most chill song on the album, though it could be argued it is also the best track from it. It’s genuine in a way few songs are, the somber tones and raw emotions piercing through, striking a nerve with the listener. It’s difficult to not feel a connection with it, many people surely being able to relate in their own way as Barlow sings about regret for all the memories that were never made, time running out much sooner than expected. The most remarkable thing about The Peace and The Panic is the way it all comes full circle. There are songs about relationships and, of course, some more politically and socially geared tracks peppered throughout, but as it nears the conclusion it revisits the passing of Barlow’s father, further demonstrating how that loss has shaped him as a person and a musician. “19 Seventy Sumthin’” is the albums biggest surprise hit, relying heavily on a bit of nostalgia as it captures a cheery vibe and tells a tale of a picturesque relationship. There’s something enchanted about it, the way it all unfolds being able to take primary credit for that feeling of magic; the story being that of how Barlow’s parents met, started their life together and began a family. While not infectious in a traditional way, it still manages that, right up until the shift, the abrupt jump from a gently plucked guitar to the full band ultimately jumping in. It represents the sudden crushing dose of reality that struck in the form of a heart attack, the rest of the song being about coping and leaning on one another as a family to handle what life threw at you. Beautifully penned, the music is integral to the way it conveys itself, all of it being intricately pieced together to create an exceptional song. Completing the journey is “Where Do We Go When We Go?”, which echoes back to a line from “Motion Sickness”, “…Sat on the kitchen floor all alone talking to a ghost about where we go when we go…” It operates from the perspective that no one knows for sure what comes after this life – nothing at all or a place of eternal riches. It doesn’t concern itself with trying to answer that either, more just trying to establish both perspectives are reasonable. Instead, it captures the, “rage, rage against the dying of the light,” mentality, accepting the fact that we are all here for a short time; and while life may be trying and full of suffering, it’s worth it to persevere. Persevere because you never know what lies ahead; the track boasting what may well be the most punk line of the entire record, “…I just wanna get one up on life before it kills me.” Packing a hefty dose of punk venom, “Where Do We Go When We Go?” also winds up being a fairly aggressive song, getting in-your-face and providing a solid end to a stellar album. The Peace and The Panic represents a watershed moment for Neck Deep and stands as their most significant piece of work to date. It sonically captures that youthful vim and vigor that defines pop punk, sounding brash and exhilarating, though the stories it tells are born from the most trying events in life. Absent of angst (somewhat), each offering instead comes from the eyes of an adult, one that has experienced the hardships of life and has been changed because of it. On the surface, a lot of these songs sound fun – and they are meant to be to an extent – but if you dig down just a bit you realize how weighty they all are. They illustrate how far Barlow, Thorpe-Evans, Washington, Matt West, and Sam Bowden have come not just as musicians but as people, not losing their edge or any of the attributes that make them, them, but learning to view events through a different lens and artfully turn them into songs for the world to enjoy. Songs that will appease the angsty teenager just as much as they will the twenty and thirty-somethings whose youth was shaped by this specific genre. At the very least The Peace and The Panic proves that Neck Deep is worthy of being a torchbearer of pop punk. A band who fills the shoes of their forefathers quite well and one that in time may well be instrumental in sparking another renaissance of pop punk music.
