#Matilda wouldn't think of that due to time but also because of her past

Last ask before Barbra makes me count sheep- actually, two in one:
First: Who gets pregnant between Matilda, Kanjira, and Mercuria? (Can add Anjo Nala in on that for fun if you wish)
Second: Who would you ship Barbra with?
*sits down, pulls out a soda* Mmm...
For me, Anjo is most likely their unwillingly adopted murderous woman. As in, she adopted herself and interrupts their daily life.
Not to make things weird or anything, I feel like exploring a little into the future of a character's relationship in a more mature light can make you understand a couple things about the characters.
Though this might be an uncomfortable topic for some? I'm not entirely sure, the age and all...
So... Err, I think it would be Mercuria.
I took a moment to think, and I feel like Mercuria would be the one to take upon herself that responsibility.
Matilda is a foundation worker, so far, I don't think the foundation would allow anyone to engage in such conditions, especially someone so important as Matilda. In the future, if things continue the way they are, Matilda would be a very important asset to the foundation due to her loyalty, independence and goals.
She's very unique and a person that can rule and be able to come up with solutions with things given to her. If she's so smart this young, the foundation would absolutely require her once she's older. So, if she still works there, they would not allow her to get into any sort of thing that would have her temporality stop doing field missions.
Hell, they'd barely leave time for her personal life! Like Madam Z but instead of being an assistant, she's a field investigator equally as overworked if not more!
Kanjira, on the other hand, is a loose string. I don't think she'd be able to take upon herself the responsibility that it means carrying a child, as mentioned before.
It's more so the way she was raised, Sherja (?) didn't have any children yet she still had to take care of her and others, her parents were not present in her life and she had a bad experience with the adults back in her hometown. If that's how things are, could she really bear the thought?
Mercuria is the most mature and responsible one when it comes to life decisions. She's not a Matilda that barely has time to breathe, nor a Kanjira that doesn't want to carry with the responsibility.
She loves her mother despite what happened, she knows her mother loves her too but wasn't mentally prepared for the task. So, she had to really consider the idea.
She has that instinct, and I'm pretty sure it's her who suggested the idea to the others, because she's in a good place mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and she can do what her mother couldn't do for her.
I remember her tenderness when talking about her mother back in the event, though I didn't play her side story so I could be mischaracterizing, but I believe she has that instinct within herself that she can take care of her own child.
So, yes. I believe it's Mercuria, and Matilda is no absent mother, she would ask for a leave from the foundation to be there!
And I ship Barbara with Nick Bottom, though you'll probably see that in the other ask. Good night comrade, please sleep, I feel your tiredness.

Knowing our Arcanists 13: Matilda
Welcome to entry thirteen of my series: "Knowing our Arcanists"! This is a series in which I introduce and tell the stories of our fellow characters in Reverse: 1999. Today we have: Matilda!
Tumblr media
We love our girlfailure in this house. I think Matilda is heavily mischaracterized by the fandom, mainly defined by her silly tangents about Sonetto. But I think there's a lot more to her character than what we first see, so lets get started.
Matilda Bouanich is a French arcanist born in the 1990s. The arcane skill that she was born with is a variation of divination, well known as scrying or crystal ball divination. A young girl with a competitive spirit, Matilda is an incredibly active individual who takes pride in her abilities as a Foundation Investigator and Monitor Assistant.
She hails from the wealthy and famous Bouanich family, who are a long line of arcanists known for their divination skills. At a young age, she was an excellent performer in school and continuously worked to being the best of the best. After seeing one of their parades at the time, she decided to join the SPDM to prove her abilities despite being past the typical enrollment age.
She was able to move up levels and rise in ranks, becoming part of the top 3 students that performed well academically among her peers. Her prideful demeanor is fueled by her never-ending passion to compete against those above her, but most especially the school's top student at the time: Sonetto.
Sonetto was a student that Matilda especially admired, because she wanted to match (and even surpass) her in academic performance and skill. She worked endlessly to compete against her despite it being one-sided in nature, but always fell short due to her own arrogance. Over time, this competition became chase, with Matilda mostly wanting to find a reason to see and even befriend Sonetto.
At the same time, Matilda occasionally longed for the freedom she once had when she was younger, with having experienced the world outside before. Knowing that some of her classmates also yearned for it, she shared it with them under the familiar oak tree.
Despite it, Matilda chose to stay behind when the other kids planned their escape, since she had chosen to be confined within the white marble in the first place and didn't want to forsake the opportunity she was given. Perhaps she lived with the regret of not joining them, or with knowing she had an indirect hand to their downfall, but she could do nothing but move forward.
Once graduating she held onto her competitive and prideful demeanor, yet had to swallow some of it after being faced with not-so-ideal promotions. Her first mission in Mor Pankh greatly helped her move up and teach her about limits. Shamane, Kaalaa Baunaa, and Kanjira helped her learn the further extent of divination and what she could do with her scrying. And after her mission in San Francisco, we leave at a mysterious note where she's met with the disappearance of her own mother.
I think its been emphasized enough that Matilda has a lot of pride and ambition that its fundamental to her development as a character. Its her driving force in life and its the sort that never really goes away as she always wants to outdo whoever becomes her competitors. Its a great way for her to motivate herself when she's against all the odds.
However, this also tends to come to a fault where that pride becomes arrogance, and makes her often have shortcomings. One example would be her never being able to best Sonetto in school or always failing to confront her properly due to being easily flustered around her.
Neither Matilda's pride or her arrogance makes her a mean person. If anything, she's actually very kind and understanding, especially with her friends. Even if she struggles to swallow that pride when she has to, she wouldn't want to risk hurting her friends in turn. She's fully aware of the extent of hurt that the people around her experience, and wishes to help them in ways outside of her scrying abilities.
This ambition to compete may be rooted from her experiences growing up, where she rarely had much attention from her parents and other family besides when she performs academically well, and losing the only person (her grandfather) who really paid attention to her up until he passed away. Even then, she continues to have a lot of love for her own family and hopes to be able to protect them as an investigator.
Over time and meeting more guides and friends, Matilda will keep learning as she grows up. Perhaps with it she'll be able to achieve what she's always wanted to do, and easily surpass not only her friendly competitors, but also the enemies she'll face later on.

"Bluebird: Part Two" (Peter Maximoff x Reader)
PART ONE
A/N: Hey guys! I don't have much audience right now as I'm still trying to rebuild, but I'm so grateful for those of you who are reading! This one was fun to write! A few of the lines near the end were actually quotes from the song "Quiet" from Matilda (the musical). Please check out that song! It's lovely! This time around I dove into the Introverted!Reader part of the request :) As for triggers, the reader has a thought at one point that might be considered steamy in the right context? The reader has been subject to wrongful imprisonment due to prejudice. I can't think of anything else! This one is a continuation of the first fic and does also use female pronouns. Hope you enjoy! I love your feedback! Part 3 coming soon :)
_________________________________
At first, Peter wondered why he had never seen her around the school. I mean, he had gone there for almost a year now and he knew just about every face. He had always been a people person. People interested him. They were all so different and complicated and they all had such interesting stories. He rarely had the attention span to sit down and listen, but he desperately wanted to hear them. Peter had a very special quality about him that made everyone feel as if he was their friend. And frankly, he was. Everyone felt comfortable talking to him, because he made everyone feel valued in one way or another. When you talked to Peter, you knew he was listening, even if he couldn't sit still. He just had a smile that made people feel special. He never took himself seriously. He never thought he was "too good". If something was different from him, it was exciting, not scary. Maybe that's why Y/N felt the slightest little sliver of trust creeping into her heart. She had mostly managed to keep that feeling out. It had only cause trouble in the past. If it were anyone else sitting with her at lunch or partnering with her in class, she would have assumed they were trying to make fun of her. No one else at the school had ever even noticed her, much less spoken to her. I mean, people had tried to be friendly at first, but she knew it was only out of politeness. She was just...quiet. She had a quietness about her. People didn't like quiet. They liked Loud. But for some reason, out of everyone, the loudest person she knew had chosen to fixate on her. She had no idea why the Loud chose the Quiet, or why the Quiet enjoyed the Loud. But she did. And something made her trust him.
***********************************
"What's he saying?" Peter called out to her, his nose pressed up against the wall of the little terrarium sitting on her bookshelf.
"He says your smudging the glass." Y/N replied, smirking as she flipped through her textbook.
"No I'm not!" He shot back, gently cleaning off the side of the tank with his sleeve. He reached inside and with one finger, oh so gently stroked the back of the turtle's shell. Y/N's dorm was full of plants and one or two animals, too. It was calm. He felt the same way in her room as he did when he sat along the bank of the pond admiring her.
"His little shell is warm." Peter stated, glancing over at Y/N
"That's how he likes it. It makes him feel like he's laying in the sun.." She smiled to herself amusedly as she watched Peter study the tiny creature. Y/N stood and tended to a small, bright yellow snake that laid still in a very large glass jar, which had been turned into a make shift enclosure. She giggle at the snake as it woke and laced itself between her fingers.
"Well I'm sorry for waking you. I was just checking in...Well I don't particularly like that kind of language, sir." Peter laughed as she placed the snake back into it's home.
"Wouldn't he be happier outside?"
"He will, yes. Eventually. I only bring in little ones who need help. When scary things happen, I give them a place to stay while they heal. I always ask permission. I'd never keep someone in a tank or a...cage...if it wasn't to help them feel better." She didn't seem to like that word.
"I've been in too many cages to ever trap a friend in one." Peter felt his heart sink when he heard this. In the past, It wasn't uncommon for mutants to be imprisoned. They were seen as a threat. In the eyes of the government, the traits they were born with were weapons. It pained him to think of her locked up. She glanced at him, looking as if she was begging him not to ask her about it. She shook her head and moved on.
"This little guy is a bit different, though," she laughed and she returned to the turtle. "My mom found him on the side of the road and brought him home to me when I was little. I've tried releasing him back into the wild so many times, but he just gets angry and bites my thumb when I bring him outside."
Peter chuckled, crouching down so that he was on eye level with his new shelled buddy, and looked up at her.
"Can I hold him?"
She paused, waiting for the turtle's response.
"He says you can, but only if you try and sit still. He says he doesn't want to get sea sick."
She tenderly lifted her little green pal out of the terrarium and set him in Peter's hands. Peter looked like a child holding a sleeping baby for the first time. He was so excited, but he was dutifully sitting still and trying not to show it.
He whispered, "Look! He's so nice! He's not even trying to bite me or  run away!"
Y/N felt the corners of her mouth creeping up as she watched him gush over the pet. She caught herself staring at his dimples, which were very prominent now as he grinned down at the shell in his hands.
"He likes how warm you are..."
Y/N had noticed this about him, too. Due to Peter's body working as hard as it does, he was always pleasantly warm to the touch. It was one of the many things that made him so inviting. Strangely enough, Y/N found herself envying her turtle. How nice it would be to feel that boy's friendly warmth all over her, his hands along her skin. She shook her head, trying to get the odd thought out of her head.
***********************************
The sun began to hang lower in the skies as they talked. Y/N sprawled out on her bed and was soon joined by Peter, who laid down right next to her as she glanced over the pages of her textbook.
It was nice to see him at rest. To some, it would be incredibly difficult to put up with, but the pace at which he lived had never bothered Y/N. In fact, she loved it. It was exciting when compared to the slow prodding of the days that she was used to. She enjoyed the fastness. She enjoyed the Loud. Even so, there was something about seeing him at rest...calm and relaxed. Peter had always been slightly plagued by his speed in a way. There were downsides to every mutation. For Peter, it was that he could never sit still. There were times when he couldn't sleep for days on end. He would be painfully tired, exhausted even, but his body wouldn't let him sleep. He was catatonic. He constantly had to be moving. But, one could forget all about that whilst watching him sleep there on her bed. It was nice. Having him there seemed to bring things to life. Her lonely little dorm that she had isolated herself in for so long wasn't silent and empty as it had been before. Just...Quiet. Like silence, but not really silent. Just the sound of his steady heartbeat and his slow, deep breaths. A nice kind of quiet that Y/N had grown to treasure.
She knew there would be a time when he was thrust back into the loud, but for now it was quiet.
It was quiet. And he was warm.
