A review of Mashle's second light novel (Mashle: Mash Burndead and Resurrection Spell)
A general review:
This light novel was co-authored by Hajime Komoto and Hoshi Kiyoko so it cannot be considered a Komoto's work. However, I still consider it sub-canon considering Komoto probably had to supervise it right?
It is a light read. All the short stories are simple stories with minimal action and conflicts so they are rather slice-of-life. However, they can be fun and interesting because we barely see many of these characters in the manga so it is nice to see another side of them and watch them deal with their problems. The short stories are all choose-your-own adventure so you will be able to choose what path each character will take.
There are five short stories in this light novel, focusing on Brad Coleman, Wirth Madle, Rayne Ames, Lemon Irvine, and Dot Barrett. The characters that appear prominently in these stories are Lance, Finn, Abel, Abyss, Love Cute, Margarette, Tom. Some other characters that also appear are Wahlberg and Sophina (in Rayne's story). If you want to see more of these characters, I highly recommend getting on Amazon JP and buy this light novel. If you don't know Japanese, Deepl is a good option to translate Japanese into English or any language of your choice.
Underneath, I will be giving a summary of two of the chapters of the light novel for those who who are not afraid of spoilers. I also translate some small sections in Rayne's short story for those who are interested.
Chapter 1: Brad Coleman and his observation work
Like the name, this chapter mainly focuses on one day of Brad Coleman watching over Mash and his friends (Lance, Dot, Lemon, and Tom).
The story starts with Brad hearing a report about an armoured knight showing up. Because the place this armoured knight appeared is a cream puff shop, Brad connects this with Mash. Thinking to himself that if Mash's inability to use magic gets exposed, his plan of success in life will come to nothing, he decides to go out.
After encountering the knight (who is later revealed to be Dot), there are some branching paths you can take. You can take many branching paths as the story progressed. However, if you choose a wrong path, Brad will be back in his office and won't be there to observe Mash and his friends have fun.
It is hard to describe all the branching stories but basically, Brad tries to make sure Mash and his friends stay safe and have a good day. He makes sure that Mash gets to the destination to meet up with his friends either by ordering other police to push him or use cream puffs as baits.
Brad orders the shop keepers of the places where Mash and his friends play to give special attention to the group so they can have a good time. In one of the branching path, he even orders other police officers to catch anything of suspect nearby and lies to them that this is because a child of someone special is playing there. That branching path will lead to a bad ending, however, as Brad himself will be captured because he throws his cigarette butt on the ground.
During the course of the story, Brad keeps telling himself that he does all this just for his plan. However, it is obvious he cares about Mash and wants the boy to have a good time. There is some wistful thinking on his part in the good ending about youths having fun and some bitterness about not having experienced such a happy time during his student years.
Chapter 2: Rayne Ames and one day of being a Divine Visionary
To all Rayne fans out there, this story can be quite interesting. And if you are a fan of the Divine Visionaries, Sophina appears. Sadly, Kaldo does not appear, though I read these light novels just so I an catch some glimpse of him.
From this story, it is apparent that Rayne's life is very busy. He gets off at work at 17 o'clock and is happy that he doesn't have to do overtime. However, when he returns to Easton, Wahlberg has some tasks he needs Rayne to handle. Rayne needs to feed his rabbits in two hours so you are only allowed two hours to handle all the tasks.
The three tasks he needs to do are:
Learn the destruction of the "Magic Reversal Mirror".
Learn about the animal that appeared in the bamboo grove
Answer an interview that will be published in the new student guidance pamphlet.
For the Magic Reversal Mirror, obviously Mash is the one who destroyed it so you are given the option to talk with him. Mash admits to it and apologizes for his action. Then when Rayne is about to leave the room, the door is opened and Finn comes in and says, "Brother! Please wait!".
You are then given two options: listen to what he says or I have no business with my brother. I will ignore him and leave the room. If Rayne ignores his brother, only 10 minutes will pass so less time's wasted, yay! If he listens to what Finn has to say, however, Finn will only say something in defense of Mash.
I will translate a small section here because I feel bad for Finn.
Looking down at Finn who was drawing back a little as expected, Rayne said coldly.
"I fully understand it."
"Eh..."
"You are wasting my time."
Saying it over his shoulders, Rayne Ames left behind both of them and quickly left room 302.
"...Brother."
The door closes to shut away the strengthless voice.
Because of his fault, 20 minutes passed by.
I feel so bad for poor Finn in this and am kinda mad at Rayne lol. Rabbits are important to him but 10 minutes aren't a long time and Rayne should not have acted as if Finn was a waste of time.
If Rayne goes to the bureau to ask about his predecessor, he will encounter Kaise Tsukkomi (Nerey Shawn in English), who says that the previous Director of Magical Objects was injured then retired. Rayne asked whether that person was injured by Domina and Kaise confirmed it. Then it makes sense that the mirror ended up in Cell War's hands.
Then if he goes to Abel's room to talk, he gains an ally in Abel.
After finishing this test, you can go on to the next task.
If Rayne chooses to be interviewed, you can choose his interviewer to be in black or white robe. If the interview is in black robe, it is Finn. They obviously have a very tense conversation and Rayne does a terrible job answering Finn's question about what animal he likes. So Mash shows up and answers it for him.
I will translate a small section because I like these siblings.
"I didn't ask you, Mash-kun."
"That is rude."
"Then, Mash-kun what do you like?"
"Cream puffs."
"Isn't that food!!"
What carefreeness.
The reception room somehow got filled up by a carefree atmosphere.
His brother was laughing out loud.
That brother who used to cried all the time...
I cannot remain in such a carefree place. I cannot destroy such a carefree atmosphere.
Rayne Ames quietly turned his back and left the reception room.
I can't with Rayne. -Cries- However, Fin's being an interviewer is actually a bad option. You are supposed to choose the other option and Rayne will be interviewed by Wahlberg.
To the next task, he has to find out about some animal. To find out about that animal, I recommend going to the library to research about the animal first because that is the only way to get the best ending. Then Rayne will meet Sophina!
Sophina leads Rayne to a shelf as huge as a castle wall. When Rayne complains about there being too many books because he has no time, Sophina just smiles and says,
"To be satisfied with knowledge learned in a short time. You will say act as you say, but I wonder whether those words are also cheap makeshifts and not worth believing in."
"...Ku"
Rayne can either choose to read a lot of books or only a few and choosing to read a few is going to lead him to the best ending. In that branching path, he only reads three books for children.
"Is it really okay for you to only read three books?"
Rayne gave his answer carelessly to a puzzled Sophina.
"I have no intention of becoming a scholar, I only want to solve the problem at school. Besides, because these are children books, important facts are written here. Zebra in hotter regions have more stripes, penguins' black and white colors are for camouflage in the ocean, pandas' black and white colors..."
"I have enough of animal trivia."
Though she spoke out a flat refusal, Sophina understood. Rayne cultivated an intellect at the top of the magical world, which was enough to make him the youngest Divine Visionary. He was surely the kind of person that only needed to listen one to learn ten things. Though he and children read the same thing, he gained vastly more information and content than them. While acknowledging him, Sophina was proud and confident that he would not be able to surpass herself who was worthy of the title of Knowledge Cane.
Sophina kept her expression unchanged, said "Goodbye", then she left, her long, black hair waving.
Later on, Rayne finds out that the animal in the bamboo grove is a kind of animal that feeds on dreams. The dream, in this case, specifically belongs to Mash.
After finishing these three tasks, Rayne goes back to his room, feeds his rabbits and has a great time. If he finishes any task unsatisfactorily, he will not be fully satisfied and thinks about it even when feeding his rabbits. If he fails to finish all the tasks in time, he is happy but his rabbits are super hungry by the time he feeds them so make sure to feed them in time!

As mentioned before, I'll be sharing my top 10 anime characters that could solo my beloved sweet baby boy Binghe. This is both serious and not at all serious. Disclaimer: I love him, he's my good son, but he also needs some competition to keep his head nice and deflated. I'm sticking with 1 character per show to keep things fresh. Also "anime" is a... loosely used term here lmao. Also also, manga/LN spoilers ahead for some shows.
Without further ado (and in no particular order):
10. Uzumaki Naruto (and friends)
Definitely the most obvious so I'm putting it first. Honestly the Naruto cast could've had its own top 10, but rules are rules. That Talk No Jutsu is fucking lethal. If he couldn't TedTalk Binghe into a reluctant friendship, he'd rock his shit first and THEN befriend him. Without so much as a filler episode.
I'm of the mind that any Kage-level character could wipe the floor with my son, Mano y Mano. But even a solid jonin team would have some serious hands for him.
9. Saitama from One Punch Man
I haven't watched the full thing, but ending careers with 1 punch is literally his job, so I'm taking this one on good faith that he'd also be fast enough to catch Binghe at all.
8. Yoriichi from Demon Slayer
The only thing that could defeat this man was his own sadness. He'd clap TLJ and then come for Binghe without so much as a snack break.
7. Hua Cheng from TGCF (yes I know it's a donghua shut up)
Call me biased, I don't care. Hua Cheng would obliterate this man without even thinking about it. He'd laugh, too, because he's an asshole. And then go home to bang Xie Lian.
6. Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
I don't like this man or this show. But no one can tell me he wouldn't just. Eat Binghe. Like full vore, as is canon of his abilities. He's done it with physically larger targets and succeeded, he could do it for some pretty boy. Binghe wouldn't even be the first demon king he's fought.
5. Aang from The Last Airbender
I SAID WHAT I SAID. Specifically in his Avatar State, I firmly believe he'd clap Binghe if led to believe it was absolutely necessary. Like the literal world ending. He exorcised a man when he was 12, I think Aang at his peak could handle an emo boy in need of an exorcism.
4. Saiki Kusuo from the Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
He'd dust Binghe out of existence before homie even knew what hit him. Argue with the wall.
3. Yumiella Dolkness from Villainess Level 99
I don't even really like her, but considering she's taken on a demon king of her own before, and is capable of making black holes big enough to swallow cities without breaking a sweat, she'll at least be a worthy opponent.
2. Kumoko/D from So I'm a Spider, So What?
Literally a god. The world-ending kind, and that's when she's being chill about it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up being in control of the System tormenting poor SQQ and SQH. She's not as advanced in the anime, but in the light novel ending a world is literally light work. She's done it before and she'll do it again.
1. Mash Burnedead from Mashle
I haven't even caught up 100% with this show but I don't care. It doesn't even matter that Mash can't do magic. Actually, it's precisely BECAUSE he can't do magic that I firmly believe he deserves a place on this list because that just means this human dude is just Built Different. Binghe would throw a bunch of spiritual/demonic energy attacks at him and Mash would just bitch slap it out of the way. And then bitch slap Binghe. Worst part is that he wouldn't even realize they're fighting for real, which would permanently ruin Binghe's self esteem, IMO.
Honorable mentions:
Gabimaru from Hell's Paradise
I don't think he COULDN'T take Binghe on, just that it's unlikely he'd survive, honestly. Cultivation is real in their world kinda, and from what I've watched he's not yet capable of taking one on by himself 100%. But he's tenacious and skilled, so he'd at least get a few good ones in before Binghe smokes him. With a good crew and a battle plan, he'd be able to lock an average Binghe under a mountain.
Sailor Moon
The only reason she isn't on top 10 is because I'm not confident in her ability to take hits. She's great at dishing them out, but in the event Binghe manages to get a good whack in, I feel like it'll be over for her. I don't think she's fast enough to reliably dodge the whole time either. Plus, I barely remember the OG show, so it's kind of odd to be comparing her to stuff like Naruto, which I know well.
Hina from Hinamatsuri
Just offer a lifetime supply of red caviar and Binghe's a dead man. That being said, I don't think she'd walk away unscathed. This battle would mostly be dictated by how it starts. If she has the element of surprise, he's dead. If Binghe is suitably enraged (say, Xin Mo possession style), Hina's a goner. Hence she isn't strong enough to be able to beat him soundly in all scenarios.
Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul
He's pretty cool. Also likes to eat flesh. I don't think he's as fast at it as Rimuru is, but then again I also gave up watching after the first season. Gets an honorable mention because he might actually be stronger than I think.
Goku
He's fucking Goku. I just have never watched this show so I didn't feel comfortable ranking him.
Kibutsuji Muzan + Upper moons from Demon Slayer
Any of them would be a solid threat. However, considering they get their asses handed to them by a bunch of human high schoolers and fold at the tiniest ray of sunlight, I figure the moons would be somewhat of a miniboss vs final boss in terms of power scaling.
Muzan probably would've gotten a place on the list if not for Yoriichi. Also, as said, anyone that gets clapped by a bunch of high schoolers in their own home gets a permanent L. Shine a lamp on him and it's over for bro.
Hashiras from Demon Slayer
Not a single one of them can 1v1 any upper moons. That being said, they still managed to body all of them. They go down with them though, so I'd say it would take all of the hashiras (maybe including pre-canon ones) to take down the average Binghe. And they'd all die doing it.
Hero of Time/Hero of the Wilds Link from Legend of Zelda
Is this an anime? No. Do I care? Not really. Fighting opponents wildly out of his league but ultimately winning anyway is literally his canon lore. All Link needs is a slingshot and an ocarina and he'll fight the fucking moon. He's no slouch in recent games either; a beef bowl and a stick is all it takes for him to take on the immortal demon king possessing the castle in nothing but his goddamn boxers.
This was my list!!! Very long, but a lot of fun. Let me know what your own lists are, I'm curious lol.
If I've not mentioned a show, it's probably because I've never watched it lol.

Winter 2024 Anime Review
Solo Leveling - 24 Episodes
This has been and will be my most anticipated series. We've only scratched the surface of the story and people are going nuts. I've been reading the light novel translations for a while now and I'm not even a little ready for when certain things are animated.
Easily one of the best anime adaptations out there. More to look forward to.
Sidenote - A1 is killing the animations considering it's one of their bigger ones in a while.
Also - they did a really solid job with the sound design, a lot of the timing made certain scenes feel just that much more intense.
9/10 - Amazing
Frieren - 28 episodes
Such a unique watching experience.
I think so many shows these days are fast paced, and action oriented, especially within the fantasy genre. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable watch.
The story is moving and the animations are warm and fuzzy.
Not much I'd change about the series.
10/10 - Masterpiece
The Apothecary Diaries - 24 Episodes
The second half of this series kept up with the flow of the first half really well. I feel like that shouldn't be a feat but it really is these days.
I genuinely love watching the subtleties of the romance in this series and the medical mystery cases are just as fun to watch.
The story has so many little bits and pieces working throughout the show and the last episode had me wrecked for reasons I never saw coming.
Just overall a big fan of this series.
9/10 - Amazing
Delicious in Dungeon - 12/24 Episodes
This series has no right to be this much fun.
The animations match the energy of the show so well and I think it's one of the best "entertainment" series of the season.
I was worried it would start to repeat itself but found that the characters become the highlight of the series and I looked forward to every episode.
(This is the series this season that I'm high-key obsessed with.)
8.5/10 - Very Good+
Shangri-La Frontier - 25 Episodes
One of the most fun looking MMORPG animes I've seen. I remember reading the teaser manga a while ago and was stoked to see it animated. Just a genuinely well done gamer oriented series.
They do such a good job at showing exactly the kinds of small things gamers pay attention to and some of the combat learning is stellar.
Not to mention the sound track honestly did not need to go as hard as it did?!
Really hoping they continue on with this for another season.
8/10 - Very Good
Bucchigiri?! - 12 Episodes (Updated)
I haven't seen any coverage for this show for some reason. It's a one shot that Mappa animated. The story felt quite slow but I personally had fun with it, the character design was satisfying - gives a bit of Jojo's and SK8 vibes. After a few weeks I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back - it ends up being a decently satisfying story. It's rare to see single season shows and I think that was really refreshing.
(Opening and ending are both bangers)
7.5/10 - Good+
Mashle - Season 2 - 12 Episodes
I decided to watch this once all the episodes had aired. I found that it's not one you can be in the mood to watch all the time, but when you are it's just as hilarious as the first season.
I've enjoyed the pacing of the story and I'm looking forward to future seasons.
7.5/10 - Good+
Unwanted Undead - 12 Episodes
Another series I read the manga for when it premiered. There's something about this series that gets me hooked. While the animations aren't anything of note, I find the story is oddly unique and I ended up bingeing all the episodes in one go. Definitely one I'm curious to see where it goes.
7/10 - Good
Mr. Villain's Day Off - 12 Episodes
This is purely for my own personal interest in attractive moody villains with alter ego's. It's a lot of fun to watch and it's just so wholesome.
That's it.
7/10 - Good

Should You Watch The Anime?
(Speed Run Winter 2024 Edition!)
I watch too many shows a season to really want to dig deep and review all of them, but since we're a few weeks into the Spring 2024 anime season, I figure I can give you a rundown of the Winter 2024 season!
I'm only talking about shows I finished, and maybe only a couple with sentences on my judgement and some flavor text. If you want to know more about my thoughts for a specific anime listed, let me know and maybe's I'll do a full review on it.
So, Should You Watch The Anime?
In no particular order...
Fluffy Paradise (Isekai de Mofumofu Nadende suru Tame ni Ganbattemasu)
No. It's not a bad show, but not really worth the time either - unless you just have to see a little girl petting random animals and monsters.
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic (Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata)
Yes, if you like isekai that take their time building things up. Fun premise and fun characters, though it doesn't have a conclusive ending.
Mashle season 2
Yes, though only if you watched season 1 already. Still a lot of dumb shounen fun, but now with the best OP of the year.
7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! (Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuu Kimama na Hanayome Seikatsu wo Mankitsu suru)
Yes, if you're looking for a good romance anime with interesting characters/world. I liked it so much I read all the translated light novels out so far.
Mr. Villain's Day Off (Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san)
Yes, if you're looking for a unique slice of life show. It has chill vibes most of the time, but also some heartfelt stuff. And pandas.
High Card season 2
Not really, even if you watched season 1. They added some weird twists and barely resolve character arcs.
Snack Basue
Maybe, but only if you like kuso-anime and can appreciate assholes as they converse. I laughed at this one more than I thought I would, but it ain't for everyone.
Delusional Monthly Magazine (Gekkan Mousou Kagaku)
No, but it's decent for an anime aimed at a younger audience. Just a little too silly for most of the run, so I couldn't get invested.
Bucchigiri?!
Absolutely Yes if you love dudes that kick each other's asses while feeling like they should be making out with each other instead. This was my favorite show of the season, but I also have unique tastes, lol.
Brave Bang Bravern! (Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern)
Maybe, as long as you jive with the main protagonist and don't guess the big twist by episode 3. Guessing the twist so early kind of made the rest of the show a slog. I did want to like this one, but it was just okay in my book.
Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard (30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Mareru Rashii)
Yes, if you're cool with Boys Love. Despite the absurd premise, the show conveys adult romance fairly well - and the couple actually communicates with each other!
Shangri-La Frontier (Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su)
Yes, especially if you're the type of person who watches Let's Plays. I am that person, so I had a lot of fun watching the progression through the game, especially with the great animation.
Metallic Rouge
No, unless you're really hard up for some sci-fi anime. I wanted to like this one, but it failed on a lot of levels.

A summary of the last three chapters of Mash Burndead and the Resurrection Spell
The next three chapters focus on Wirth, Lemon, and Dot.
Chapter 3: Wirth Madl and the journey of finding one's self
This chapter is set after Mash defeated the Magia Lupus. Wirth is now in a crisis. Wirth was a genuinely blessed person and had so many good things in his life that promised a good future such as parents in the Magic Bureau, 2 lines on his face, an education for the gifted and placing third in Magic Lupus, an organization at the top of the Lang dorm. However, none of this has any meaning now because as a member of the Magia Lupus, he is connected with the criminal called Innocent Zero.
He feels himself unable to face his parents and brother who are working the Magic Bureau after working with the foremost criminal organization in the magical world. He feels he won't be accepted back home anymore, nor will there be any chance of him being able to work in the Magical Bureau.
Because of this, Wirth decides to leave everything behind and leaves for the desert. During his travel, he comes across a vending machine. Because he leaves while his thoughts are very confused, he does not bring a purse so he only has some coins in his pocket. Only one bottle of warm cocoa is left in the vending machine. He does not feel like drinking something like that, but thankfully, he still has some water left so he plans to drink it. However, before he can do it, a female voice sounds out from behind him, "Do you like me?"
I bet everyone can guess who is it. It is Love-chan!
If you choose to option to have Wirth argue with Love, they will be having a heated conversation. A little bit into the conversation, Love says this,
"Ah!? But if you hadn't lost, I wouldn't be in this place that is full of coarse sand."
She then says,
"If only you had won against that 2 liner and that mushroom head. I would also be pampered further in places such as the school and the dorm. Then I will work in the Magic Bureau! Marry an elite! Then I will have had great success in finding a marriage partner, lived in a high-rise condominium, bought food in high-end supermarkets and lived in happiness!! I am definitely not the kind of girl that does something like getting wretchedly thirsty in this kind of place!!"
So like Wirth, Love also leaves school due to the aftermath of the fight.
Depending on what you choose, Wirth and Love will fight, Wirth and Love will travel together or Wirth will leave Love to travel alone. However, in the path that leads to the good ending, they both end up working part-time in the same restaurant because they are broke and they need to eat. Wirth and Love will both become so good at their job that they receive an offer to become permanent employees. If you choose to have Wirth reject this offer, he will drag Love back with him to Easton and they will continue trying.
This short story gives a nice insight into Wirth's personality. It is also kinda amusing to see how Wirth and Love are so immature and so terrible at making decisions. But, oh well, the Magia Lupus are a bunch of chuuni, and it kinda makes sense that they are still figuring out their lives and working out their unresolved trauma. I am kinda disappointed Orter never shows up, though.
Chapter 4: Lemon Irvine and the magic candies
This short story is just an extended version of the extras at the end of one of the volumes. So basically, Lemon buys a bunch of Cupid candies because it is advertised that one among 1 million candies has the magic power to make your love come true.
Lemon then runs into some people who may have possession of the candies such as Margarette, Abyss Reiza, Lance Crown, or Tom Knowles.
Lemon, despite meeting those four, never actually managed to eat the candy with the magic power to make her love come true. Lance even tells her that the magic in the candy he holds is a very weak sort. He also tells her that Mash is not the kind of person to be influenced by something like cupid candy.
I am not a fan of this short story considering it is just Lemon obsessing over Mash.
Chapter 5: Dot Barret and the imaginary date
So this chapter is basically Dot obsessing over Lemon. Dot wants to have a good imaginary date with Lemon but despite changing the scenarios multiple times, for some unknown reasons, Mash keeps butting in the middle of it. Dot decides to investigates and finds out that everyone near Lemon's room keeps having weird dreams with Mash in it, which makes it hard for them to sleep.
After Finn and Dot come to Lemon's room, finds out she uses shady magic to connect Mash's feelings to her, which is the reason that Mash appeared in so many people's minds. Well, I guess this is a rare occasion that Lemon uses magic...
The problem is then solved by making her sleep and then they clean up all the weird magic stuffs.
I think that out of all of the five short stories, Wirth and Rayne's stories are the best. I don't really like Lemon and Dot's stories.

I just realized that Mashle released a fanbook back at the end of 2023 and I am just now seeing all this but I need help do you perhaps know is anyone translated it?
Unfortunately, as far as I know, I don't see anybody translating it yet. Some character profiles and trivia have been partially translated which you can see on the series' wikia, but beyond that not yet I think. Let's hope for an official translation someday!
#anonymous#there's also three volumes of mashle light novels that haven't gotten english translation too#iirc it's been translated to latin america and french (and i think thai as well?) but not for english yet#it's a shame because the light novels were a lot of fun

brother crab's winter 2024 parting thoughts: akyaku reijou level 99 watashi wa ura-boss desu ga maou dewa arimasen
NO BUT OKAY THEY WERE ADORABLE ACTUALLY
tl;dr not Amazing but also not bad! kinda enjoyed it tbh
full review:
i feel like akuyakulv99 was basically the dictionary definition of unspectacular, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. it's not something i would say anyone should go out of their way to watch, but i really enjoyed it well enough
yumiella works really well as an mc in my opinion, she's op and funny in the same way mash is (though akuyakulv99 doesn't go as hard on the comedy, at least not as hard on the slapstick, as mashle i would say)
i think her deadpan attitude towards the genre she's in especially works in moments like the "true love saves the day!" ending in the final ep, because she's like. encouraging these moments to move the plot along but her tone of voice is saying "yeah this is ridiculous but alas" which vibes hard when the viewer is feeling the same way
obviously i originally picked up the series for the cast, esp william cv and oswald cv (haruki AND amachan my boys) but actually wound up really liking patrick
like... much like the rest of the series patrick is unspectacular but he's SO funny and earnest in his pursuit of yumiella that, idk, i really couldn't help but root for him. they're adorable, they really are
the series feels like it wrapped up pretty nicely. apparently the light novels are still ongoing, but i'd say just this one cour is pretty good as a self-contained story
anyway. good luck and godspeed patrick. every single one of your dates will be in a dungeon i hope you'll learn to love it umu
#crab watches#winter 2024#parting thoughts#akuyakulv99#there are some moments where yumiella is REALLY like mash lol#to the point that it was funny to have this and mashle s2 airing in the same season#like they are long lost siblings. they should've been in the same club

hi! for the animanga ask, are there any anime and manga you enjoy that you wish more people knew about? (basically, any underrated series recs?)
Hmm... I'm still actively recommending Mashle through my side blog and I think it's getting attention now that it's being animated. I tend to have a weird taste when it comes to animanga though so I don't usually make a recommendation. Even in this current season, I am currently watching 21 ongoing anime. I already dropped one or two and I'm still watching these series after 5-7 episodes. If I had to mention a few series (not the current ones), these are the following:
Ao Ashi - I still think that this anime is underrated, it's a good sports anime
Sabikui Bisco - this is based on a light novel and I'm still reading the remaining volumes as I wait for each to be translated, only the first volume was animated
Oregairu (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.) - based on a light novel as well, all volumes were animated, I really like the dark humor of the main character, it's a romcom but definitely not the typical romcom
Fabiniku (Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to) - a very funny isekai anime that casually touches on gender themes, this became more apparent on the manga because the anime is only 12 episodes, the manga is still ongoing and the development is really fascinating
Oofuri (Ookiku Furikabutte) - this baseball sports anime is kinda old but I really love this series, the characters are very likable and realistic, the manga is still ongoing but I stopped at some point, I hope to finish it once it's completed
Fukigen na Mononokean - this one is a youkai anime, so if you're interested in this genre, you can check this one too, the ending of the anime is different so if you would like to continue, might as well read the manga since it's already completed
Kemono Jihen - the first episode automatically got me hooked, the theme is supernatural and in some way can be classified as youkai because of the characters
Kai Byoui Ramune - MC is a doctor of mysterious diseases that can not be cured by normal means, kinda supernatural, sometimes the MC would take drastic measures to cure his patients and that's what I love about this series
Tsukimichi (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu) - this one's isekai but it's a good one in my opinion, second season was already announced
Bokuhaka (Boku no Tonari ni Ankoku Hakaishin ga Imasu.) - this is basically Fukuyama Jun doing the tsukkomi and Sakurai Takahiro doing the bokke routine while Kimura Ryouhei is laughing in the background, anyway, this is a very funny light-hearted series and if you are fine with chuunibyou characters, you can give this one a try
The list could still go on but these are what came to mind so far. And like I've said, I tend to have a weird taste when it comes to animanga so if you won't like any of these, that's fine too. ^^
