Prom Night II: Hello Mary Lou may not be *the* perfect horror movie, but I think it is in fact *my* perfect horror movie.

So a few nights back I watched Prom Night and like, it was aight, it had an extended and choreographed disco dance scene with Jamie Lee Curtis which gave it some points, actually likeable teens and Leslie Nielsen in his most subdued role ever (go watch Creepshow if you wanna rightfully watch him ham it up in a horror movie), but I think it fell pretty flat on the actual horror and especially the kills.
That being said, I got nothing better to watch so last night I decided to watch Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, and it was fucking DECENT, like what the fuck? The totally unrelated sequel to itself mediocre low budget slasher flick had way better kills, a way better villain, music, effects, plot etc. And while it's very much a Nigjtmare on Elm Street clone I'd easily put it above a lot of their sequels, it's basically a better executed Nightmare part II AND THE VILLAIN IS A CUNTY 50'S COQUETTE PROM QUEEN BACK FROM THE DEAD.
Oh and it has Michael Ironside in it, as if I didn't have enough reasons to love this movie.
This is all to say that you should absolutely go watch it, at least where I am its free on Amazon Prime with occasional ads, oh and this is a Mary Lou Maloney Stan blog now.

Round 2 poll 16: Mary Lou Maloney from Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 vs Vladislaus Straud from the Sims
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut:
Mary Lou Maloney:
Mary Lou is like a 1950s era slutty, petty, mean girl prom queen who is accidentally gets killed while she’s getting her Prom crown in a Carrie style prank gone wrong. She comes back as a vengeful ghost at the height of the 80s slasher and absolutely RUNS the next two movies. Like every line is quotable every kill is insane. She, after an insane gay moment, and bare naked, and terrifying, uses psychic powers to crush a girl in a locker to the tune of some 50s rock tune. Her heaven monologue is iconic her writing For A Good Time Call Mary Lou on the confessional is inconic her using a nail file to escape hell is iconic her saying It’s A Big. Free. Country! Is iconic while she has cheating on her boyfriend sex on top of an American flag in a CANADIAN movie there’s no better. Like I like a lot of slashers and especially forgotten ones but it doesn’t get better than Mary Lou, mean girl in life mean girl in death
Vladislaus Straud:
An evil loner who plays the organ, he is the elder vampire who breaks into people's houses and drinks their blood. A threat to society. He may or may not have committed mass homicide in the past. I love him. I want to bite and choke him. Non-sexual way, just pure violence. I want to pet him on the head and punch him. I want to break into his mansion, play on his stupid air piano until he is irritated, beat him up, steal his coat, hug him (twice), steal his painting and maybe kick him. Not gonna lie, he looks like he's pretty soft to the touch. He could canonically use a hug. Actually. I'm not even kidding. He also looks like Nosferatu sometimes.

An old flame returns! This week, Peaches and Michael are clawing their way to the crown in celebration of 1987’s HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II! In addition to discussing the titular Mary Lou’s legacy as one of horror’s few enduring female villains, our hosts also delve into her place as a representative of queer id. Joining the conversation are celebrated spooky drag icons The Boulet Brothers, who share their admiration for the film’s aspirational villainy. Then, acclaimed SCREAM, QUEEN! MY NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET co-director Roman Chimienti stops by to dig into the goth punk power of Hamilton High. From confessional booths to carousel horse hooves, this episode has it all! Go!
