Gobo and Traveling Matt Backstory Theory:

1. Traveling Matt is really a craggle, explaining his desaturated color, but was raised by fraggles (aka Great Uncle Gobo) so he has the mannerisms of a fraggle

2. Gobo’s mom (aka Marly Fraggle) was Great Uncle Gobo’s real child/daughter which is why Uncle Gobo favors her over Matt

3. Marly leaves to join the minstrels, and leaves Gobo in custody of her adopted brother, Matt. That explains Gobo’s love for music (she could also be a juggler explains why gobo wants to juggle)

4. Matt kind of forces exploring in Gobo because he's afraid Gobo will want to leave like his mother, Marly, if he gets too invested in music, so Matt spends a lot of time adventuring with him instead
