BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team Choose all-new HM Quickshifter-Auto Blipper For 2019
The SMR run BMW Motorrad WorldSBK squad of Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger have chosen the all-new HM Quickshifter-Auto Blipper for the upcoming 2019 World Superbike season. Running on the brand new BMW S1000RR, the cutting-edge unit will provide the team with more accurate and consistent gearshifts as well as being fully adjustable for sensitivity. It is now also the official product recommend by BMW Motorrad.
The new-look BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team of Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger kicked off their 2019 World Superbike campaign last week with a successful test on the all-new BMW S1000RR at Jerez. Alongside giving the new machine its 2019 debut, the duo also became the first World Superbike team to utilise the new HM Quickshifter-Auto Blipper.
Developed as a direct replacement for a traditional ‘up and down’ Quickshifter, which in many cases can be unreliable, the HM unit utilises an ultra-sensitive Strain Gauge; meaning no moving parts that could cause a mechanical failure. Providing both riders with more accurate, slicker and consistent gearshifts will enable them to drop lap times knowing exactly what their gear changes will be like, lap after lap. The unit is also fully adjustable for sensitivity, meaning the riders can set it up exactly to their preference. Alongside being a technical partner to BMW Motorrad, the new HM Quickshifter-Auto Blipper has been chosen as an official recommended product for the S1000RR.
The Quickshifter-Auto Blipper made its racing debut last season, helping power fellow BMW rider Keith Farmer to the prestigious Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship title. The unit was also successfully used by the Mototech Yamaha Endurance World Championship team as well as the Reactive Parts Ducati V4S raced by Steve Heneghan at the Macau Grand Prix.
It is not just top race teams who will notice the benefit of the Quickshifter-Auto Blipper however, as road riders will also notice a more accurate feel going both up and down the gearbox. Developed as a simple ‘plug and play’ device, it fits directly into the existing Quickshifter port on modern Superbikes and is suitable for both road or race gear patterns as well as both standard and aftermarket rearsets.
HM Quickshifter General Manager Ben Varley explained “We’re really excited that the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team has chosen to use our HM Quickshifter-Auto Blipper for their 2019 season. We proved last year that it can help riders not only cut those all-important lap times but also provide them with reliable, predictable gearshifts lap after lap.
With two world class riders and the brand new BMW S1000RR, we’re sure it will be a fantastic season for the team and look forward to celebrating their success!”

New Post has been published on http://superbike-news.co.uk/wordpress/all-right-for-markus-reiterberger-2018-european-superstock-1000-champion/
All right for Markus Reiterberger: 2018 European Superstock 1000 Champion
Domination, passion, speed, skill, champion. Just a few words to sum up Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW) and his 2018 season in the European Superstock 1000 Championship, as he leaves Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours as the champion. Taking the crown in the final round of the year, he showed out on track just why he’s taken this crown with his stunning domination and pace.
Hailing from Trostberg in Germany, Reiterberger first began racing in 2007 in the acclaimed Red Bull Rookies Cup with small levels of success. His first competitive victory came in 2009, in the Yamaha Cup and he was crowned champion of that same series the following season. Moving into the IDM and European Superstock 1000 Championships, he had found his calling and progressed throughout both series.
Re-entering the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship after half a season away as the reigning IDM champion, he was not short of confidence or momentum heading into the opening round of the season at MotorLand Aragon. With five years of experience in this paddock, the circuits were familiar to the 24 year old and with his championship winning team behind him, he was the man to beat.
Northern Spain in April was the setting of his first victory, crossing the line over two seconds ahead of the field as he secured his lead on lap nine of 13. He faced a battle from pole position but was able to eek out a comfortable lead over his rivals around the 5km track. With no time to rest ahead of round two, the paddock travelled to TT Circuit Assen for the MOTUL Dutch Round, and the German brought his A-Game.
Qualifying on pole position for the second time on the bounce, there was never a threat to Reiterberger’s lead as he got off the line in the 14 lap race and took his second victory of the season by over five seconds. With a ten point lead in the championship standings to his name already, he was flying on his BMW S 1000 RR.
However, like all true champions are set to face, Round Three at Imola was a challenge for Reiterberger. The tight, twisty and technical circuit doesn’t lend itself well to the Germans riding style and a top five finish was the best he could muster in Italy – leaving with just one points advantage in the standings.
Back on top form in the UK around the fast and flowing Donington Park, Reiterberger took a dominant win by over four seconds from pole position. Re-stamping his authority over the field, it was another lights to flag victory for the 24 year old and he was able to regain the all important confidence. But it wasn’t all plain sailing for him, as rain hit Automotodrom Brno just minutes before the lights went out – something he was not ready for. Despite this, he took a top four finish slipping back from podium contention early on; but his title lead didn’t slip too much with a nine point lead heading to Misano.
It was the championships return to Italy in July which was able to put one hand on the title for Reiterberger, as his fourth victory of the season gave him a 14 point lead and the chance to take the crown at the next race after the summer break.
After nine weeks away it was time for him to step up to the plate, as he had his first opportunity to secure the crown in Portugal. Portimao has been a tough track for the German in the past, and that proved to be the case in September. Getting off to a steady start, he wasn’t able to look comfortable on his BMW S 1000RR and could only secure third position. Putting up a sensational fight towards the end of the race, it wasn’t to be for the German, meaning it was all or nothing in France.
Delivering a determined and stunning ride to be crowned 2018 Champion in the eighth and final round of 2018, Reiterberger took the crown in France after a sensational performance. The King of STK1000, his season will not be one to be forgotten for a while!
Send your congratulations to Reiterberger using #Reit1
Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW): “It feels really good the race was awesome, I tried to do fast lap times but Sandi was really fast so I tried to not make any mistakes to try and take the victory so I could take the championship. Afterwards I saw that the gap closed up and I tried to win the race but then I made a mistake and I decided it was better to take home the championship, which was the right choice! So we are champion. I want to say thank you to my team, my family and everyone who has supported me.”

STK1000: The last hurdle for Markus Reiterberger
Seven down, one to go: the 2018 season of the European Superstock 1000 Championship faces its last stop at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours with three riders still alive in the title hunt. Just like last year it will all come down to the final turns: who will leave France as the new European champion?
Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW) has led the championship since day one: from Free Practice at MotorLand Aragon to this day, the German has been an unstoppable force in STK1000, leading the standings and showing every weekend the qualities of a true champion. Yet the title is still not his to keep: third place last round at Portimao means that he still needs seven points to secure the title win, one which seemed all but ensured. One single faux pas after an impeccable season, and Reiterberger will be at the expense of what his two main rivals do in France.
At Portimao, Roberto Tamburini (Berclaz Racing) not only won his first STK1000 race in three years, he also kept his title chase alive against all odds. The 27 year old sits 18 points behind his fellow BMW rider in the standings – anything other than first or second would not be enough for Tamburini, and even then he depends on Reiterberger’s performance. Nonetheless, the Italian has hit form at just the right time: do not count him out just yet.
Out of the three title contenders, Maximilian Scheib (Aprilia Racing Team) suffered the most at Portimao, crossing the finish line in fifth position and losing ground with Reiterberger. The Chilean now faces the final round 19 points behind the leader and one behind Tamburini and faces an uphill battle for Magny-Cours. Considering the grit Scheib has shown this season however, expect him to give it his all right until the checkered flag drops.
Several riders will also travel to Magny-Cours with a point to prove, determined to be more than an afterthought to the title race. Federico Sandi (MOTOCORSA Racing), Florian Marino (URBIS Yamaha Motoxracing STK Team) and Alessandro Delbianco (GULF ALTHEA BMW Racing Team) have all managed podium finishes this year and will undoubtedly play an important part in the season’s denouement.
The European Superstock 1000 Championship race kicks off the day’s action at Magny-Cours, as the lights go out at 11.40LT (+1 GMT) and it won’t be one to miss!

Markus Reiterberger against the world
After a dominant display at Assen, the third stop of the European Superstock 1000 Championship paints a similar picture to the one that emerged from the season opener at MotorLand Aragon: can anyone on the STK1000 field defeat Markus Reiterberger (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW)? It will be harder than ever for the German at Imola, with half of the field returning to their home country and a track they know to perfection – not to mention the motivation of pulling the championship leader down to earth.
It’s hard to imagine how Markus Reiterberger’s return to the STK1000 championship could have gone any better. Two wins, two Superpoles, two fastest laps, fastest time in qualifying, and a feeling of dominance seldom seen in this category. Imola is a special track however, and it will not be easy for the German to increase his lead here. His last appearance at the Italian track was back in 2016 on a Superbike, coming in 12th and 13th.
For many in the STK1000 field the Imola Round will be a return home, but few will be more willing and able to impress than Roberto Tamburini (Berclaz Racing Team SA). The Italian is the biggest threat to Reiterberger’s lead right now, having come in second at both MotorLand Aragon and TT Circuit Assen. Appropriately, Tamburini also came in second at last year’s Imola race – a result he will be desperate to improve on.
Another rider returning home is Federico Sandi (MOTOCORSA Racing). A third and fourth place finish under his belt in the season so far, Sandi will be willing to put last season’s Imola Round behind him: the Italian saw himself disqualified after originally crossing the line fourth. A first STK1000 win still awaits Sandi, and Imola would be the perfect venue.
Maximilian Scheib (Aprilia Racing Team) was perhaps the biggest threat to Reiterberger’s triumph at the Aragon Round, when he lead the race and was only kept off the podium by an electronic problem. At Assen he crept back on, ending the race in third. The Chilean couldn’t score at last year’s Imola race either, but is well prepared to make it through the weekend at the front of the field.
Florian Marino (URBIS Yamaha Motoxracing STK Team) will be disappointed at this season so far, not just at his two fifth positions, but at finishing both races so far behind the leading four riders. The Frenchman is not used to be so far behind, having been in contention for the title last year right up to the final race. Will he find the pace he needs at Imola?
Follow all the STK1000 action ahead of the race at 15.15LT on Sunday (GMT +2).

BMW Motorrad Motorsport will be competing with Shaun Muir Racing in the WorldSBK
BMW Motorrad Motorsport will be competing with Shaun Muir Racing in the WorldSBK – with a well-known rider duo: Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger.
Debut season for the new BMW S 1000 RR in the FIM Superbike World Championship.
BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team will enter a strong rider duo.
New positioning for BMW Motorrad Motorsport within the BMW Motorrad structure.
Munich. In the upcoming 2019 season, BMW Motorrad Motorsport will compete in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) with the new BMW S 1000 RR. This will take place in collaboration with Shaun Muir Racing. The British team headed by Shaun Muir will appear as BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and will be competing with a well-known riding duo: the 2013 Superbike World Champion Tom Sykes (GBR) and the reigning European Superstock 1000 Champion and three-time IDM champion Markus Reiterberger (GER).
The collaboration with Shaun Muir Racing reflects a significant expansion of BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s involvement in WorldSBK. Simultaneously, the successful customer racing programme will continue to operate in numerous other international and national race series. A structure adjustment will take place within BMW Motorrad as a result of this expanded involvement. Marc Bongers, previously Technical Director at BMW Motorrad Motorsport, will become BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director and report directly to the Head of BMW Motorrad, Dr. Markus Schramm. In addition, BMW Motorrad Motorsport and BMW Group Motorsport will increase their use of synergies. The objective is to bundle competencies from automobile and motorcycle racing, especially with regard to commercial and logistical topics.
Within the cooperation with Shaun Muir Racing in WorldSBK, BMW Motorrad Motorsport will be responsible for the development of engine, electronics, chassis and aerodynamics. All other areas of testing and competitive racing are the responsibility of Shaun Muir Racing.
The new BMW S 1000 RR made its public debut at a presentation on 6th November, at the EICMA in Milan (ITA). BMW Motorrad Motorsport is currently developing the motor racing components, which will be used to modify the new superbike for competition at the top level of close-to-production motorbikes.
The BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team has chosen a strong rider duo with plenty of experience and talent for the 2019 season. Tom Sykes has been competing in WorldSBK since 2008 and was crowned Superbike World Champion in 2013. The 33-year-old has recorded 34 wins and chalked up a total of 108 podiums. His performances in qualifying have also been impressive: Sykes has set 48 pole positions to claim the record in the Superbike World Championship. Sykes will compete with the BMW S 1000 RR for the first time in 2019.
His new team-mate Markus Reiterberger has long enjoyed a close relationship with BMW Motorrad Motorsport. “Reiti” started his international career with BMW in 2011 with the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. He claimed his first two International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) titles in 2013 and 2015. In 2013, Reiterberger also scored his first world championship points as a guest rider in the WorldSBK race at the Nürburgring (GER). He completed his first full WorldSBK season in 2016 and caused a stir by claiming fifth place in Thailand. In 2017, Reiterberger decided to return to the IDM and secured his third title there. In the recently-completed 2018 season, the 24-year-old BMW rider was crowned European Champion in the FIM Superstock 1000 European Championship.
Quotes regarding the 2019 WorldSBK season.
Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad: “Motorsport has been an integral feature of the BMW Motorrad success story for nearly 100 years. That is why our international racing activities are extremely important for our brand. Therefore, competing with our new BMW S 1000 RR in the top level of close-to-production racing, the FIM Superbike World Championship, is the logical next step. The 2019 season will help us set a new course for our involvement in the WorldSBK and expand this significantly. We are convinced that our BMW Motorrad Motorsport racing department, together with Shaun Muir Racing and two top riders, Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger, will meet this challenge with distinction.”
Marc Bongers, BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director: “We are moving up a gear for next season in the Superbike World Championship. In addition to the development of the core components, engine and electronics, we are now also responsible for development of the chassis and the aerodynamics. In both of these areas, development was previously the preserve of our customer teams. We are very much looking forward to working together with Shaun Muir and his team. We must remain realistic when setting our goals for the 2019 season. The BMW S 1000 RR is a brand-new motorbike and there is just a short space of time available for development. This means that our first season will primarily be about developing the bike further under race conditions and making it competitive, as quickly as possible. We intend to continuously improve and then take the next step forward in the battle against the strength of the pure works teams. Of course, the long-term shared objective for BMW Motorrad Motorsport and Shaun Muir Racing is to record some top placings and be involved in the battle for the title. We will have to take it step by step.”
Shaun Muir, BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team Principal: “This is a very exciting project for SMR to be involved in. It is quite clear, the focus and dedication from everyone involved, that we aim to be competitive with the new BMW S 1000 RR very quickly. We know, however, that the RR is a brand-new bike and that we have to take step by step, but we all work hard and focus to make this project a successful one. The decision to sign former WorldSBK Champion Tom Sykes, and current European Superstock Champion Markus Reiterberger, reflects the ambition the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team has, in challenging at the front in the Superbike World Championship. Tom joins the team totally focused and full of enthusiasm, ready for this new chapter in his illustrious racing career. Markus returns to the WorldSBK as Superstock Champion, with a strong pedigree of success on BMW Motorrad machinery. The SMR team and BMW Motorrad Motorsport development team are working hard together with the preparation and development of the new Superbike. We are at the stage where both riders will have their initial test in the comings weeks, before further testing in January and February prior to departing for Phillip Island, Australia and round one of the 2019 WorldSBK.”
Tom Sykes: “I am very excited to join the new BMW project in the WorldSBK Championship. I believe that the BMW and Shaun Muir Racing partnership is an outstanding opportunity and understand that we all share the same goals of where we want to be. I am looking forward to the start of the pre-season testing where I will get my first taste of the new BMW S 1000 RR and begin my new challenge and adventure.”
Markus Reiterberger: “I am overjoyed to have the chance to return to the WorldSBK. I am also really happy to be staying with the BMW family, and to be competing for a good and experienced team. I am forward to working with my new team-mate Tom Sykes as well. I have a huge amount of respect for him; he has already been world champion and has been one of the very best for years. It is fantastic to have him as a team-mate. I can still learn a lot from him and I hope that we will be able to work together to return the ‘propeller’ brand to the front. However, we need to be careful not to set our expectations too high. We have a new motorbike and we are in a new team. We just need to try to be improving all the time and make sure that we prepare well for the start of the season. That is our job and if we can all pull together, we will be successful for a long time. I am really looking forward to this new challenge and I am very optimistic. Thanks to everyone who has supported me and given me this new chance in the WorldSBK.”
