hey! I'm getting back into Tumblr and I only remember your Tumbls and one other so I'm interested to hear who you would suggest following for fun content. Nerdy, funny, any one you like seeing on your dashboard!

Sure thing. I actually don’t follow that many blogs on Tumblr – there’s usually fewer than a hundred active entries on my “Following” list at any given time – and a lot of them are people who wouldn’t appreciate the extra attention, but I have a few I can plug.

Tabletop RPG creators

There are surprisingly few RPG creators on Tumblr, at least openly – though I'm sure there are many more who prefer to keep their Tumblr identities separate from their work! Those whom I follow include:

@jennamoran – Dr. Moran likely needs little introduction for most who follow this blog; creator of Nobilis, Glitch, and Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine.

@jdragsky – Founder of Possum Creek Games, and creator of Sleepaway, Wanderhome, and the forthcoming Yazeba’s Bed and Breakfast.

@nekoewen – Creator of a truly vast number of smaller games, most notably the West End Games Ghostbusters retroclone Spooktacular, and also 100% to blame for my obsession with d66 tables.

@open-sketchbook – Author of many of my favourite games, including Double or Nothing, Unbelievable Macho Bullshit, and their current magnum opus, Flying Circus.

I am against any legislation that allows troops to deploy to the Middle East in support roles for Israel, as proposed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

I am against Netanyahu’s ground invasion of Gaza, which will inevitably lead to mass killings of Palestinian civilians and escalate violence. If there are any future bills supporting this, you need to vote against them and not co-sponsor.

The U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Act stipulate that only Congress can authorize the president to use military force in a foreign war, except in cases of self-defense. Previous administrations from both parties have ignored this, with unauthorized strikes in places like Syria and Libya. I want you to stand against ANY use of military force that supports Israel or hurts Palestine.

And of course, I am against the usual funding of $3.8 billion PER YEAR to Israel. This 10-year agreement began in 2016. I do not want a renewal in 2026, and in the next election, I will vote for representatives who WILL NOT VOTE TO FUND ISRAEL. I will be keeping track of how you vote now, and I will not vote for you if you decide to fund Israel in any way.

I am a single-issue voter for this. I want you to defund Israel. I do not want a single dollar spent on supporting Israel. I will be paying attention to how you vote in the upcoming weeks and months, and if you vote to fund or provide weapons, troops, or intelligence to Israel, I will NOT vote for you in the next election.

We are paying attention to the budget. We know when you're giving aid to a country committing genocide instead of helping your constituents in the USA. Both myself and tens of thousands of other constituents have spent years saying that we don’t want our hard-earned taxpayer dollars going to Israel. The lack of willingness to fund anything for American citizens, but the quickness with which you take action for Israel is telling. It is unacceptable.

As an elected official, you have the opportunity to listen to the public and stand against genocide. Israel is currently committing war crimes against Palestine. You can stop this by defunding Israel. THOUSANDS of Palestinian people have been killed, 1/3 of them children, in just a couple of days. One child every 15 minutes is being killed. YOU can prevent this by refusing to send additional weapons and funding to Israel.

We are currently spending BILLIONS of dollars EVERY YEAR on Israel. I do not want my money going towards the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. Not a dollar more.

Reflexões sobre o uso de tecnologias no ensino de Geografia

Você já se deu conta de que estamos vivendo um período de constante transformação e que isto se reflete em todos os aspectos de nossa vida? Com o mundo em constantes mudanças e evoluções tecnológicas em todas as áreas, a educação não pode se excluir. Os estudantes cada vez mais possuem acesso às tecnologias e com elas devemos nos atualizar e trabalhar em conjunto em prol da educação

Ao pensar o ensino de geografia, é fundamental considerar a utilização de diferentes ferramentas, capazes de facilitar a compreensão da relação tempo e espaço, e das relações sociais que os geraram, além do desenvolvimento do raciocínio geográfico. O raciocínio geográfico pode ser concebido como a capacidade de estabelecer relações espaço-temporais entre fenômenos e processos, em diferentes escalas geográficas.

Segundo José Moran, a educação precisa alinhar o escopo da sala de aula ao mundo externo, promovendo aprendizagens significativas e que estejam alicerçadas nas narrativas dos estudantes para que possam contribuir efetivamente em sua formação, inserindo-os como indivíduos atuantes na realidade que os circunda. Nesse contexto, surgem as metodologias ativas que visam redesenhar a forma de ensinar e de aprender que reposicionam a sala de aula como espaço de cocriação, em que estudantes aprendem por meio de desafios instigantes.

Na percepção de Mario Sergio Cortella, o docente precisa se inserir na realidade do estudante de forma a estabelecer pontes com seu mundo. Familiarizar-se com a tecnologia, por exemplo, seria um bom ponto de partida para assimilar o que os estudantes já fazem e tentar integrá-los àquilo que queremos ensinar.

Ao se pensar em tecnologias no ensino de geografia, é preciso ir além do uso do data-show projetando slides, e para se adaptar a esses avanços, se faz necessário que o professor, busque formações continuadas, atualizando assim seu portifólio de estratégias de ensino.  Sendo a escola o espaço de construção do conhecimento formativo, faz-se pertinente que a ciência geográfica seja trabalhada de maneira a conduzir os estudantes na construção do conhecimento geográfico.

No entanto professor não tem que se tornar num especialista em tecnologias, pois o que se pretende é ensinar por meio de novos recursos (tecnologias digitais) e não ensinar o uso da tecnologia em si. Sendo assim, deve-se criar condições para que os docentes se apropriem das formas de utilização de tecnologias digitais, dentro de sua competência profissional e com isso crie possibilidade de aplicações educacionais.

Galaxy of Terror

Space captain Grace Zabriskie reacts almost sexually to her ship’s taking off. That’s just one of many strange choices that make Bruce D. Clark’s GALAXY OF TERROR (1981, Shudder, Peacock, Prime, Tubi) distinctive. With the exception of a few effects, it looks much more expensive than its $1.8 million budget. Some of the sets (with actors matted into them in camera) are pretty impressive, and the monster effects combine a bit of stop-motion work with better-than-average models that include a one-ton giant worm.

The script is very high context. There’s little in the way of exposition or explanation of the future space-faring society. The last survivor of a ship that crashed on the planet Morganthus dies, leading The Planet Master, whose identity is a spoiler unless you have a good enough ear to figure it out, to send a rescue and recovery crew including former space academy hot-shot Edward Albert, empath Erin Moran, cook Ray Walston, jerky second-in-command Zalman King and techie (and coroner!) Robert Englund three years before he became a horror icon. Something starts killing them off for reasons not revealed until later. Albert and his stunt double do good work, and he makes a good romantic partner for Moran, who’s sweet and sympathetic. There’s nobody awful in the cast, but the film could really use a lot more of Zabriskie, if for no other reason than that today it’s just a kick to see her play someone young and in charge.

GALAXY OF TERROR was dismissed on release because of its exploitative sex-murder scene involving that giant worm and the kind of nudity that had become de riguer for Roger Corman’s productions by then. Yet it’s held up surprisingly well, even if the ending forgets the existence of a major character. It also was blasted as a rip-off of ALIEN (1979), and the dark planetscapes and interior of the alien pyramid where a lot of the action takes place are reminiscent of both that film and its visual inspiration, Mario Bava’s PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES (1965). Oddly, it also provided some visual inspiration of its own for James Cameron’s ALIENS (1986). He was art director and second-unit director on GALAXY OF TERROR and got his first directing job when he impressed Corman’s backers by getting maggots to writhe on cue. That may be a questionable skill in some lights (though a valued one in Corman-land), but I enjoyed those undulating critters a lot more than Cameron’s later iterations of “Dances With Smurfs.”
