Miraculous
So, this is my first post for Miraculous Ladybug, and it’s a compilation of ideas on how to improve the series.
- Put the episodes in chronological order. Narrative continuity is key to any series with an overarching story. Season 3 has been a prime example of what happens when there isn’t a proper chronological order.
- Have the adults not be useless and/or stupid for reasons. I get that it’s a kid’s show, and that adults having problems is an old staple of kid’s shows, but it’s been done to death, and honestly, there’s no reason for it.
- Have consistent character development across all the characters. I get Marinette’s the main character, but at this point, all the other characters feel like props that get moved around for whatever plot the writers want, ignoring proper characterization.
Alright, that’s the basic stuff. Now onto the details.
- Have Hawkmoth be a credible villain. He has dumb ideas? Well, he’s a fashion designer and businessman, strategy’s new to him. Have him grow as a villain, with the akumas becoming more and more intricate as he’s figuring out what he can and can’t do. And don’t have him reveal himself to Lila. That’s just stupid.
- Have Master Fu be a decent mentor. He might be too old and a bit too worn-down to fight, but he can still give advice. And he does. Have him advise Ladybug and Chat Noir on how to efficiently use their powers. Have him give them some combat training. Have him explain to them what the Miraculouses are.
- Have all the characters act as if they knew each other before the series. Maybe Marinette didn’t have a best friend before she met Alya, but have her have some friendships with her classmates. Have Luka established as a character, with him actually acting like Juleka’s brother. Have him appear in Reflekta, where he helps the class with the pictures to get her over her problems with photos. Have Adrien and Chloe actually act as if they were childhood friends sometimes.
- A reason for Fu to give the Miraculouses to kids. Have the phrase “chosen” be literal. Make it possible to force a connection to a Miraculous, like Gabriel did with the Butterfly, but have it take months of work to do. And have the kwamis choose when they become active, meaning Fu has to give out the two most powerful Miraculouses.
- If there are Adrien-centric episodes, have them be about him growing as a person, rather than the continuing struggles of his love life and his family. Going off of this, have the big problem of season 1 come from Copycat. Have Chat Noir admit to Ladybug what he did, and have her being unwilling to trust him after doing something like that. Have their partnership strained, because just as they were figuring out this hero thing, Adrien went and messed up with a selfish and immature statement.
- Have Marinette and Adrien’s relationship develop. Have it develop slowly, but still develop. Have Marinette slowly growing more comfortable with Adrien as a person, and have Adrien start to notice Marinette as more than a friend.
- Volpina. Have it still be the culmination of Season 1, but change it up. Instead of Marinette, have Adrien accuse Lila of stealing the book, with that leading to her akumatization. And during the fight, have Ladybug and Chat Noir finally repairing their friendship. Have Ladybug admit that she was being stubborn and not really giving her partner any real chances, and have Chat Noir apologize, sincerely, for his behavior and ask for them to start over as partners and friends. A return to trust that’s sorely needed with Volpina’s illusions.
- Have Season 2 start a change in what’s happening. Marinette’s career as a designer is starting to take off. Adrien’s stepping more and more out of his cage. Ladybug and Chat Noir are developing as heroes, and as friends. Adrien and Marinette are developing as the beginnings of a relationship. Chat Noir stops the flirting, because however much he loves Ladybug, he doesn’t want to lose her friendship again because of his jealousy.
- Chloe redemption. Have it start with Zombizou. Have Bustier finally lose it with Chloe, and get onto her about her selfishness and bullying. Have Chloe slowly develop as a person and improve in how she acts. Have her cause less akumas as time goes by. Have her step back and admit she was being problematic with her attitude towards everyone. Have her work to try and save her friendships with Adrien and Sabrina after abusing and neglecting them.
- Have lead ups to the new heroes. Have Alya start helping people during akuma fights, not just watching the fights. Have Nino step up help out his friends, maybe being self-sacrificial and taking hits for others. Have Chloe try to help, especially when she caused the akuma, and getting hurt for it but trying anyway.
- Don’t have Kagami as Adrien’s love interest. Have them be friendly rivals, with both of them pushing each other to improve as fencers, and occasionally hanging out because Kagami really doesn’t have many friends.
- Frozer. Have it be a friend-date between Adrien and Marinette. Have it developing as Adrien actually asking Marinette out, because she’s cute and nice and a good friend, and Adrien wants to have good memories with his friends. Kagami just happened to be there because she likes speed-skating for leg strength, and meets Marinette. Luka is there because he’s the surrogate big brother for the class and is absolutely wingmanning for Marinette.
- Style Queen. Have Audrey be akumatized because Marinette and her parents turned her down, and she can’t stand rejection. Have Chloe try to help, and admit that she didn’t want her mother’s love anymore. Have Chloe actually earn the Bee Miraculous. Have the lesson be that Chloe doesn’t need or want her parents’ love and approval if she has to act like them to get it.
- Heroes Day. Have Hawkmoth ready for it, pushing more and more akumatizations so that When he turns Nathalie into Catalyst, he has an army to work with. Have the three new heroes be more than just akuma fodder. Have Hawkmoth narrowly escape only because Nathalie turned to the already broken and twisted Peacock Miraculous. Have Alya, Nino, and Chloe be on call in the future.
- Season 3. Have it start with Chameleon. Have Lila be an enemy and foil not to Marinette, but to Adrien. Have her lies be more subtle, less completely over-the-top and outlandish. Why was she away? Well, she broke her leg, and it took awhile for it to heal (Lying, of course). Have the episode take place over a few days, as Lila slowly works to poison the class against Adrien. Have Chloe be the one to tell Adrien that he needs to stand up and grow a backbone. Have Adrien finally develop courage and self-assurance in his real life. Have the class realize Lila’s a liar. Have Lila’s mother be called in for her lies, and subsequently learn Lila lied about school. And at the end of the episode, with Chloe’s advice in mind, have Adrien ask out Marinette on a real date.
- Silencer. Have it be less about Luka’s feelings towards Marinette, and more about his anger that his sister’s and her friend’s hard work was stolen, and that they were threatened (It applies to him, too, but he’s in a righteous big brother rage). Have Marinette learn that she needs to be more careful about who she trusts when it comes to her work.
- Development for Max and Luka as potential heroes. Have Max become Gamer 2.0 because he took an akuma for someone else, much as Bustier did. Have him actively putting on the game tournament as a sneaky way to give the heroes time to figure out how to beat him, because he can’t completely override Hawkmoth’s control. Have Luka start helping the heroes like I suggested Alya, Nino, and Chloe doing in Season 2.
- Party Crasher. Have everyone at the party, because Adrien honestly views them as his friends. Have Kagami and Luka there, because Adrien wants as many friends as possible. Have Party Crasher be a neighbor who was upset about all the noise they were making. Have the party be not at Adrien’s house, but at Nino’s. Have Kim step up and start fighting the Akuma without any powers, because the heroes have all been caught, (Yes, Rena Rouge and Queen Bee included) and have that be when the Monkey Miraculous activates and Fu passes it to him.
- And, oh yeah. Throughout all of this, have the heroes slowly grow more proficient with their powers, because the “adult” thing is complete bull. Have it be experience. Have Hawkmoth’s issues be that he can only make 1 akuma, after which he has to recharge, and that’s the Butterfly Miraculous power for a beginner.
