Profiles in Villainy
The Sea Hag
As mysterious as she is vile, The Sea Hag is the self-proclaimed last witch on earth. She is additionally a pirate who sails the Seven Seas in her ship, The Black Barnacle. She has a headquarters on Plunder Island, where she keeps a pride of lions useful for dispatching her enemies. The Sea Hag possesses a deep knowledge of magic artifacts, is proficient in Voodoo magic and has captured the mystical entity known as Eugene the Jeep.  And if that wasn’t enough, the Hag also commands an army of Goons (large, semi-human minions who follow her every order).
The Sea Hag has been a recurrent adversary of Popeye The Sailor.  When the Hag first met Popeye she fell instantly in love with him and was horribly envious of Popeye’s girlfriend, Olive Oyl.  She abducted Olive, and Popeye traveled to Plunder Island to rescue her.  Desirous of revenge, The Hag has endeavored on numerous nefarious schemes that have required Popeye’s intervention.  And yet the Hag is a woman and it is against Popeye’s code of honor to ever lay hands on the fairer sex.  But worry not… Olive Oyl has no such qualms and has been there to step in and give the Sea Hag a much deserved wallop in the eye.
Actresses Mae Questel, Marilyn Schreffler and Kathy Bates have all provided the voice for the Sea Hag in her numerous appearances.  The villainess debuted in the 1933 animated theatrical short, Popeye The Sailor.

I watched that show on Cartoon Network when I was 7 to 11 years old. I do think it’s from the late 70’s & the early 80’s before November 18, 1989 Saturday in US television. But I realized that the show was already aired in the Philippines on GMA 7 during the 1980’s & later RPN 9 during the 1990’s. I also know that as of July 10, 1989 Monday, Jack Mercer, the voice of Popeye, Poopdeck Pappy, Pipeye & Peepeye, Marilyn Schreffler, the voice of Olive Oyl, The Evil Sea Hag, Swee’Pea, Poopeye & Pupeye & Daws Butler, the voice of Wimpy were already dead.
